      I used pine , and wire brushed it for texture … not the look everyone would want, but it works for me.. there is a video up about it … I’ve actually painted it all , but have not uploaded that footage .. I’m a bit ( a lot ) behind but I am resuming the build … can’t stay in the shop much longer !!

    A thought....what about putting the roof skin on before you rolled it over. Then installing the ceiling insulation and the ceiling material while it was on the floor? That way it would be easy to install like the bottoms of the wings and the overhang? Just a thought......

    You get a much better finish if you sand it good and give it three coats of glue. That gives it a smooth finish like fiberglass and looks better after painting instead of that rough canvas finish you get with just one coat. Sanding it smooth is the key.

    Would liked to have seen a fastmo of applying the first layer of glue and applying the canvas. Especially the overlap corners.....that you cant see.

    I just put canvas on the roof of the camper I’m building (I will post a video soon). On the roof I just poured the glue out of the bottle and spread it with a bondo spreader. The 1st camper I built 2 years ago has held up well with pmf on the roof. Your project is coming along great thanks for posting videos

      I’m glad you are enjoying it! I keep going back and forth for my roof treatment haha… right now I’m thinking actual fiberglass, but poormans will be fine I’m sure if I can get it laid up successfully

      I split it with a overlap down the middle it doesn’t matter how many seams cause no one can see the top

    • @mikesniedze9122
      @mikesniedze9122  3 года назад

      Because you will see most of my roof due to the curved shape I was wanting a one piece, but I do have contingencies for a seam or two if required

    A lighter wt canvas like from harbor freight works well

      I agree haha… I got these from Home Depot , and thought they were too coarse .. and tried thin sheets .. which had major problems .. supposed to be 100 percent cotton but maybe they weren’t …. I lost the receipts for all these rough drop cloths , and didn’t mind the texture for this build …. but would not really work for a more modern build , or sleeker smoother finish

  • @jonog5632
    @jonog5632 3 года назад +1

    Sand ur primer bro then sand ur undercoat that'll smooth it out.

    • @mikesniedze9122
      @mikesniedze9122  3 года назад +1

      I went over it lightly with a 220 sanding pad/block ( not a sponge) and primed it twice .. it looks really good .. it looks like painted canvas … it goes very well for what I have planned .. I have 2 videos worth of footage that will be up in a day or two…. I’m pretty happy with the results , but I would tweak a few things if I did it again … thanks for watching !

    Why use Titebond 2 and not Titebond 3?

    • @mikesniedze9122
      @mikesniedze9122  Год назад

      Partly because everyone uses tite bond 2 .. and tite bond 3 is markedly more expensive …

      @@mikesniedze9122 after I asked the question, I found a RUclips video of a test using TB3 which showed that it could be used instead of TB2, so I think you’re answer is accurate that it’s a matter of cost. I did watch some videos of tests using other adhesives.
      I’m new to this and am researching the topic for a camping trailer rebuild project. Thanks so much.

    Has anybody considered using landscaping mesh vs canvas?

    • @mikesniedze9122
      @mikesniedze9122  Год назад

      I don’t think it would work with wood glue .wood glue gets a lot of its strength from the fact it soaks in .. that mesh would be nylon or some other plastic .. Maybe with some kind of epoxy . Not sure .

      @@mikesniedze9122I did a test with landscaping mesh on 1 inch xps foam and it made a very hard coating. The glue wetted thru very well. The test pieces were only bonded front and back, I didn’t wrap the fabric around, and I could not break the foam apart by hand. I probably put 40 lbs of force trying to break it across my knee and there was obviously some flex, but no cracking or delaminating. I used uncut Titebond 3
