We loved our grandpa, and when greeting him, he always said "come hug my neck" and that was the appropriate interaction. Nobody thought anything of it, either cause that's the norm. You don't go jump on an elder male's lap, but you may give him a hug around the neck if he's a beloved family member. Men and boys did not babysit children either. Usually, that was done by an older sister or another young female or an Aunt. We had boundaries when it came to male/female contact, and still do. We were taught modesty, and if you were caught using foul language, which included the "N" word, just under "GD" followed by the "F" word in how serious the offense, you got your mouth washed out with ivory soap and possibly a butt warming, as well. And no one gave it a 2nd thought. That's just how it's done. So, you might want to choose California or similar locales for your example. Gentaro cares about Momo so much. He see that Momo is acting different with the shaking and air humping and he stays right there by his side. Just like he did when Momo was sick and Gentaro knew something was up and didn't leave his side. He loves his father.

They were instructed to give his sons access to him daily. The zoo even allowed Kintaro unlimited access by making an opening between both areas, so he could come and go as he pleased. Like always one male can bring lost of baby's to a number of folds so other than genes one gorilla for 100 females could keep a fresh supply of partners that could go out on breeding loans. But we have an excess of males and a breeding pair is golden. 2 breeding pair is platinum 3 females to on male makes for a healthy troop. The problem is you have to have a place for all of the Gentaros who develop anxiety frustration and boredom. I just read that San Antonio Texas is spending 15 million on a brand new habita just for gorillas. I hope that they put the health and happiness of the worlds captive gorillas ahead of any other motivations. They need a place for bachelors like Gentaro. He would have already left the troop looking for other males his age and even more important a female willing and ready to leave her family and become part of another troop temporarily or permanently. We need to put some pressure on the zoos to make decisions based on what is best for the gorillas. Kyoto needs a makeover to better use the property and create an rainforest habitat for their health. The biggest problem is money sorry to say. If I were rich I'd donate enough to have a much larger area. Big enough that Gentaro and Kentaro could stay but not so close that sex is an unhealthy free for all. When they need to get the boys away from the females for any reason they have the space to do it and a nice place that is like their natural habitat. I think most of us want them to be heavy and happy.
Maybe now the zoo will do the right thing and move Gentaro to a bachelor group overseas or something. Healthier for everyone involved in this family IMO ❤
I don't think there's anywhere they can move him to. They have no money, the zoo is in a financial downcline-theres only 19 gorillas in all of Japan (so I've read), and there's very few that are not gene related. Overseas is best or perhaps a Japanese zoo with a new enclosure to start another troop with Gentaro and Annie-seems she's the only unrelated gorilla Gentaro can have.

For those who keep saying that Momo is trying to "mate" with Gentaro, please. That is simply a show of dominance. This is normal. Gentaro is coming into his own, and will soon need to be introduced to a bachelor group, where he can learn more about being a male. Because Momo didn't have a dad growing up, sorry to say, he is learning as he goes. Genki does help him a little bit, but he is learning. We have also seen Gentaro do this kind of dominance act with Kintaro. It has nothing to do with sex. It is not a homosexual type of action. It is all about teaching the other male who is dominant. Momo is still trying to mate with Genki. He is not confused as to whether she is female or not. For those who doubt, count at least twice when he got Genki pregnant... twice, at the very least. He is very shy, and has a lot of trouble with being more assertive with Genki. There is nothing wrong with anyone in this family.

You seem silly now trying to imagine this scene into what you seem to wish it was. Since then Momo has had this "life lesson" with his son many times, including just standing there and ejaculating while transfixed on his son. Gorrillas are allowed to be bi sexual and you do not have to try to imagine some "safe to you" version of what you are seeing. Momo clearly for whatever reason has deep issues with mating with Genki. She is unhealthy, old, decrepit, weak and terrified. They have no affection or connection at all and it is lucky they could conceive two healthy boys. But Genki should not even have more babies, she is old and in terrible shape for being old. Get a younger female in there.
That is a very stupid silverback and it doesn't help that the female gorilla is also very un- intelligent,, he humps the air and the female violently thrusts herself ass first under him it's disturbing and disgusting. There should be no mating at all especially not using two incredibly dumb gorillas.
Momotaro wants to mate and is demonstrating this by his behavior. Male and female gorillas both performs different types of courting rituals to draw attention to themselves. Other than the hooting sound he is making, he also stare at her, taps her (head, shoulder, arm, etc.) then runs away, bang on the ground, or wall to draw her attention. Gentaro is also performing the same rituals, but Genki does not reciprocate to them because Momotaro is the silverback and her mate. Gentaro will have a mate soon enough once Annie becomes of age. Until then, Genki has no choice but to put up with Gentaro's misplaced affection towards her. Let's just keep in mind that Gentaro's behavior is only natural, however misguided it may be. If he were in the wild, he would have separated from his family to begin one of his own. This is not possible since he is in captivity. So for those calling his names, knock it off!
Gentaro is almost ready to become a silverback and Momotaro recognizes that. This is nothing more than a dominant silverback showing his oldest son that he is more dominant.

In front of this new video and the behavior of Momotaro, I despised myself previously when I thought I saw a confrontation in males. I hesitated in memory of a very short video where Genki shows her pleasure to find her male. But Momotaro, who was not raised with his father or a silverback and despite his magnificent offspring thanks to Genki who initiated him, clearly does not yet have all the codes to manage his testosterone. I only regret to see Gentaro pay the price, without reproducing this behavior later unless it is possible, in the families of gorillas in freedom. I agree. Momotaro should have more females. While part of me worries if that will reduce Genki's position in the troop, given the fact she is elder and has successfully given two male children to Momotaro, I would hope it would not reduce her status.

It has to do with Gentaro's age. Momotaro it expressing dominance. If Gentaro stays long enough, he will start challenging him. I think that its alot about pheromones and not too much about how Momo tries to satisfy his urges. Anything goes I think. There are some humans like that too. Thats the only sense Im am making of it. It just isn't personal to them. There are no morals we can impose on them.

I've never seen other male gorilla's do this with their male children Mr.M is showing mating behavior with Gentero and Gentero & Kintero are playing it off like " Dad's acting weird let's humor him" Thats why kintero picked up the bush stick and was waving it at Momo in a way to warn him off his brother. Aren't the handlers at the zoo watching this behavior ? Do they think it's amusing so they film it ? It can mess with Gentero's head.
There's a video of Momotaro doing the standing-ejaculation thing, at minimum, once a week now it seems. Drives me a bit nuts when people just make up things and state them as facts, talking about 'dominance' lol. You don't see Shabani or Haoko mounting their offspring....just like you don't see them doing the air humping... This way rather than freaking out when they're seen behaving oddly, we will understand that it is not so out of the ordinary to them. What people must remember is that Genki is going through estrus which means she is giving off a scent. That is why Gentaro is going cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs over Genki. What we haven't figured out is that because Gentaro is also going through hormonal changes, he too is giving off a scent. This is why Momotaro is going bonker over all of them instead of only concentrating on Genki. I also recommend subscribing to Gorilla Life. He has these live segments where viewers are allowed to ask questions. That is how I learned Momo was "play" with Gentaro when he was little.

Why doesn't Momo push Kintaro away like he did @ 5:50 when he and Genki are trying to mate. Male animals do this quite often (or try to) to other males in order to show dominance. Gentero has been more "cheeky" to his mom and dad this past 6 mos., or so. It's quite possible dad is letting him know who's the boss! You notice the brothers appear to be trying to stay out of his way so he won't notice them. He is a little more irritated with them lately. And Gentero has been naughty towards mom more-throwing branches at her, etc.
Everyone thinking they know more than the zookeepers is comical. I have questions, but I certainly don't sit at home thinking I can tell them how to fix this. Who says it's wrong? Could happen all the time, we just haven't seen it on video before. Plus, & this is a big one - there aren't a bunch of extra females to just throw around...have you seen all the videos of the large bachelor groups?? Several zoos have them, Mo is lucky to have a female - not all males get 1. That is not abuse because you are seeing them as humans instead of animals. Regardless of Genki's age, there are no other females in Japan that can mate with Momo. The only female in Japan that is not with another silverback, or related to the Momotaro family is Annie. However, she is still underage until June 2022, when she turns 9 yrs old.

Captive gorillas if cared for properly could live to around the age of 50+. Gentaro will be starting a family of his own in a year or two. That should clear up some space for the new baby by the time s/he begins to walk. You have to look at it in a positive light otherwise you will drive yourself sick, worrying about it.

@@cantoncardcollector1512 it has been distressing. I was reading about all of the different zoos and trying to get females not closely related to the males. Like always one male can bring lost of baby's to a number of folds so other than genes one gorilla for 100 females could keep a fresh supply of partners that could go out on breeding loans. But we have an excess of males and a breeding pair is golden. 2 breeding pair is platinum 3 females to on male makes for a healthy troop. The problem is you have to have a place for all of the Gentaros who develop anxiety frustration and boredom. I just read that San Antonio Texas is spending 15 million on a brand new habita just for gorillas. I hope that they put the health and happiness of the worlds captive gorillas ahead of any other motivations. They need a place for bachelors like Gentaro. He would have already left the troop looking for other males his age and even more important a female willing and ready to leave her family and become part of another troop temporarily or permanently. We need to put some pressure on the zoos to make decisions based on what is best for the gorillas. Kyoto needs a makeover to better use the property and create an rainforest habitat for their health. The biggest problem is money sorry to say. If I were rich I'd donate enough to have a much larger area. Big enough that Gentaro and Kentaro could stay but not so close that sex is an unhealthy free for all. When they need to get the boys away from the females for any reason they have the space to do it and a nice place that is like their natural habitat. I think most of us want them to be heavy and happy.

I don't think there's anywhere they can move him to. They have no money, the zoo is in a financial downcline-theres only 19 gorillas in all of Japan (so I've read), and there's very few that are not gene related. Overseas is best or perhaps a Japanese zoo with a new enclosure to start another troop with Gentaro and Annie-seems she's the only unrelated gorilla Gentaro can have.
There are several zoos with large (3-5 members) bachelor groups...seems we definitely need more females somehow. 🤷♀️

For those who keep saying that Momo is trying to "mate" with Gentaro, please. That is simply a show of dominance. This is normal. Gentaro is coming into his own, and will soon need to be introduced to a bachelor group, where he can learn more about being a male. Because Momo didn't have a dad growing up, sorry to say, he is learning as he goes. Genki does help him a little bit, but he is learning. We have also seen Gentaro do this kind of dominance act with Kintaro. It has nothing to do with sex. It is not a homosexual type of action. It is all about teaching the other male who is dominant. Momo is still trying to mate with Genki. He is not confused as to whether she is female or not. For those who doubt, count at least twice when he got Genki pregnant... twice, at the very least. He is very shy, and has a lot of trouble with being more assertive with Genki. There is nothing wrong with anyone in this family.

You seem silly now trying to imagine this scene into what you seem to wish it was. Since then Momo has had this "life lesson" with his son many times, including just standing there and ejaculating while transfixed on his son. Gorrillas are allowed to be bi sexual and you do not have to try to imagine some "safe to you" version of what you are seeing. Momo clearly for whatever reason has deep issues with mating with Genki. She is unhealthy, old, decrepit, weak and terrified. They have no affection or connection at all and it is lucky they could conceive two healthy boys. But Genki should not even have more babies, she is old and in terrible shape for being old. Get a younger female in there.

Momotaro wants to mate and is demonstrating this by his behavior. Male and female gorillas both performs different types of courting rituals to draw attention to themselves. Other than the hooting sound he is making, he also stare at her, taps her (head, shoulder, arm, etc.) then runs away, bang on the ground, or wall to draw her attention. Gentaro is also performing the same rituals, but Genki does not reciprocate to them because Momotaro is the silverback and her mate. Gentaro will have a mate soon enough once Annie becomes of age. Until then, Genki has no choice but to put up with Gentaro's misplaced affection towards her. Let's just keep in mind that Gentaro's behavior is only natural, however misguided it may be. If he were in the wild, he would have separated from his family to begin one of his own. This is not possible since he is in captivity. So for those calling his names, knock it off!

In front of this new video and the behavior of Momotaro, I despised myself previously when I thought I saw a confrontation in males. I hesitated in memory of a very short video where Genki shows her pleasure to find her male. But Momotaro, who was not raised with his father or a silverback and despite his magnificent offspring thanks to Genki who initiated him, clearly does not yet have all the codes to manage his testosterone.
I only regret to see Gentaro pay the price, without reproducing this behavior later unless it is possible, in the families of gorillas in freedom.

There's a video of Momotaro doing the standing-ejaculation thing, at minimum, once a week now it seems. This way rather than freaking out when they're seen behaving oddly, we will understand that it is not so out of the ordinary to them.
What people must remember is that Genki is going through estrus which means she is giving off a scent. That is why Gentaro is going cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs over Genki. What we haven't figured out is that because Gentaro is also going through hormonal changes, he too is giving off a scent. This is why Momotaro is going bonker over all of them instead of only concentrating on Genki.
I also recommend subscribing to Gorilla Life. He has these live segments where viewers are allowed to ask questions. That is how I learned Momo was "play" with Gentaro when he was little.

Male animals do this quite often (or try to) to other males in order to show dominance. Gentero has been more "cheeky" to his mom and dad this past 6 mos., or so. It's quite possible dad is letting him know who's the boss! You notice the brothers appear to be trying to stay out of his way so he won't notice them. He is a little more irritated with them lately. And Gentero has been naughty towards mom more-throwing branches at her, etc.
I read this is only common in all-male groups, not in harem groups. They need more females for Momo

That is not abuse because you are seeing them as humans instead of animals. Regardless of Genki's age, there are no other females in Japan that can mate with Momo. The only female in Japan that is not with another silverback, or related to the Momotaro family is Annie. However, she is still underage until June 2022, when she turns 9 yrs old.
@@RuthPreach I dont see them as humans. I dont believe any zoo that has one as genki and doesnt have an enclosure big enough for the animals then there should not be any breeding. It should be that all zoos in the should be together with the breeding. So zoos can keep allowing breeding trying to get a female when they aren't equipped to take good care of what they have? No
@@melaniemiller3351 I understand your concern, but gorillas are on the brink of becoming extinct. Momoko is older than Genki by about three years, and she's pregnant. Captive gorillas if cared for properly could live to around the age of 50+. Gentaro will be starting a family of his own in a year or two. That should clear up some space for the new baby by the time s/he begins to walk. You have to look at it in a positive light otherwise you will drive yourself sick, worrying about it.
