Longshot's su33 had incredible camouflage, which made it impossible for sharp to spot it. Longshot thank you, for all your tactics and efforts involved in producing such excellent videos.
Sukhoi's Electro Optical eye can see targets upto 50 km+ distances in-case head to head approach. It can see targets upto 90km or even 100km in case head to tail approach with full afterburner.
Of course it's different, but in DCS this doesn't matter unfortunately as the system is the same and it's also worse than in real life. The Eurofighter mod in DCS is based on the SU27.
This gets me wondering the real specs on the Felon's IRST, which is a newer generation like the Gripen E/F as well. Typhoon and Rafales are from the same generation as Su30 and 35. The difference? Components, hardware and software. At least the Gripen sensor I know it uses a more modern molecule in the sensor, capable of a broader range and sensitivity in frequencies thus temperature differences, and more resilience against adverse weather and also greater range due to increased sensitivity. It's not a stretch to believe Sukhoi have improved greatly in their newer EOTS device as well
imagine a long range missle that starts with a TWS lock and the instead of going pitbull, it switches to IR so you really have no idea when it’s coming for you
That's actually a common configuration for SAMs. There have been experiments using this in air-to-air missiles, but since the seeker generally needs to be chilled to be effective, that creates problems because you need a lot of space to pack in two seekers, the coolant, and the power source for all of it, plus the warhead, fuel, and the guidance electronics.
@@PhycoKrusk most SAMs are semi-active, either semi active radar homing or track via missile, very few have active radars in the missile since it's kinda' pricey... Old stuff like S-75 or S-125 had 2 seekers since the analog electronics of the day just weren't good enough.
The French MICA IR missiles probably can do that but they're not super long range. It can use data link to track targets and switch to ir for terminal guidance. If the Rafale can do TWS then that's fully possible right now.
Nice... I've found the Fox2 long range (R27ET) to be extremely effective in short range fox2 battles. I think they have a much better (more complex) IR seeker and tracker than the Archers. I.e. they tend to track better and are about just as agile as the Archers. I've found that once the R27ET tracks, you are virtually guaranteed a kill at close range. Whereas the Archers can still sometimes be defeated by flares... I've not had an ET yet that went for flares. Especially when hunting helicopters... The Archers are particularly prone to go for flares on slow craft that don't emit a lot of heat... Not the ET... Close range, It's a hit, every time... Choppers beware. There is the "Ultimate Argument" Campaign available for the SU-27, which was a lot of fun... And there are a lot of choppers to be shot down too... Especially later in the Campaign there is a group of choppers that are particularly tough to kill with Archers... Whenever the Archers continuously fail to hit targets (thanks to them going for the hotter flares), I switch to the ETs and they did the job every time... Needless to say, the ER (fox 1) also works well on choppers... There is virtually nothing a copper can do to defend against the ER. You just have to remember not to fly to fast yourself as you need to maintain lock (provide radar guidance) until the fox 1 missile hits. So you don't want to get to close to a chopper that has fox 2 missiles, albeit not particularly good missiles, but can still kill you if you're reckless...
YES, the infrared mountain Ghost Flanker returns!!!! Those valleys , weren't too steep, so not surprised the few times he had line of sight and got a radar glimpse of you, plus he does have irst also which is his secret weapon But geez, that flanker camo, I couldn't see $hi7 trying to spot it at the merge lol .. well earned kill longshot, you HAD to have surprised him a few times here It's also neat having the captions tell us when he did get radar sight on you. ... For a long range Fox2 kill you could actually try the Eurofighter. It has an longrange IR system, the EuroFIRST PIRATE and RAND estimates it to be able to detect a fighterplane subsonic at 50nm frontally and 90nm from the rear which should give you a decent sensorrange. French MICA IR missiles should be an ok way to have longrange IR and if you can use a Meteor opener to force the other plane defensive everything should be set. The only problem is I have no idea if all the parts are in DCS...
Interesting video Longshot - I have never tried to fight a Eurofighter in DCS, but I am pretty sure I would not have survived. Nicely done Sir! Stay safe! o7
I would like to make the same suggestion as I did to Growling. Time to get the DCS YT community together and start doing joint battles. Either against or together. Maybe YT vs former fighter pilots. Or do a Top Gun equivalent for RUclipsrs to see who is the best of the best.
We need the full module in DCS so we can shoot the Flankers while they are still behind us after the merge :D (yes, the Eurofighter with IRIS-T can shoot targets that are behind it)
I don't think they call it a Flanker because that's the tactic it's supposed to use. It's just a NATO designation that begins with F because it's a fighter. Floggers don't try and beat you with a whip, and god know's what a Fishbed would be supposed to do. ;-)
Well executed LS! IMHO if he had chosen to go high enough he could've locked you and the valleys possibly wouldn't save you from a meteor missile. I know split second thinking and timing makes the difference.
The SU33 looks like the most capable 4th gen carrier based fighter. Fortunately for NATO, no other country fields them in any significant numbers from a catapult equipped carrier.
The Typhoon is by far the strongest 4 Gen fighter jet in the world and the UK even uses it on aircraft carriers... The Su-33 can not be the most powerful fighter jet because the Typhoon is much more agile, as the only fighter in the world is able to go into a dogfight with supersonic, the Typhoon has the best power-to-weight ratio in the world and because it is actually a multi-purpose fighter jet, it can carry significantly more weapons than any other fighter aircraft. I myself do not know any other jet which could carry 16 rockets and more. Russia is very unlucky because there are many countries that use the typhoon. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more typhoons than Russia has on fighter jets. If you consider that the typhoon can easily destroy 3 Su-57 alone, Russia must hope that NATO will go out of missiles in case of war and the typhoon can not be used too often.
@@MatorThorsson How did you come to the conclusion that the EF2000 was comparable to the Su-57, let alone beat 3. Also, I would hesitate to call it the best Carrier based 4th gen in the world, and none of the things you listed prove it to be. The Rafale has better jamming capabilities, and can use an assortment of weapons, the F/A-18 Block 3 also has better radar and will soon be using the Aim-260, and the J-15B also has the PL-15 and the J-15D has potent EW capabilities.
@@ferrous3262 China doesn't have a catapult equipped aircraft carrier, neither does Russia. Without a catapult, carrier based fighters are severely limited in maximum takeoff weight and combat effectiveness.

DCS has the problem that the missile drag in the game is actually way higher than in reality. But in this case Longshot simply used the mountains as terrain cover which counters basically any long range missile fired from low to medium altitude - in that case I actually think it would've been smarter for the EF to fly at a high altitude in order to maintain the lock on the bandit in the valley but well... I'm not the one with thousands of hours in DCS.
