Actually, Billy didn't intend to lie to the witches/Agatha, when she asks him for his name he gives her first Kaplan and then Maximoff as she asks a second time. It did not come off as if he knew that she wouldn't hear it. After that, perhaps he pivoted, sure.
The road is the exact same color as the infinity stones in the exact same color and order they were found from iron man 1 to endgame. Started out blue than red than yellow so on so forth
This really explains why he was so emotional over Alice Wu-Gulliver's death. She was there after he became Billy and was instrumental in helping/saving him. Everyone else he met as William he didn't remember them, but he had a connection with Alice. Look at his reaction when Sharon died and Alice died, huge difference.
@ScreenCrush What do yall think about the way Agatha's eyes began to water like she kinda wanted to cry, After Billy repeated his name to her. After she said "It's good to see you again Billy."? Is it just me that feels like, she showed just a glimmer of the kind pride a mom would have in their kid? Like a mom seeing her baby say their name for the first time or does something "big" for the first time. The way she spoke to him was almost like a proud mother! "You did what you had to do to survive!" "Don't you dare be ashamed of your power!" Saying things to him that she maybe wished her mom had said to her? She does have the history of being Billy and his brother's care taker. It seems she may have the tiniest bit of maternal feelings and pride in him! Projecting on to him the feelings she wish she could give to her son maybe? Just a thought! Yall need to get a veteran mom on the team now to analyze the maternal nuances of Agatha's character. She has so many layers! Please shout me out in a video if I'm onto something. Love you guys work!
My guess is that Sharon has been a witch all along, she just didn’t know it, and it misled the coven into thinking she wasn’t the green witch they were looking for.
I couldn’t stop laughing at the way Agatha was looking at the painting thinking it was the 2 way glass like I kept rewinding it that was so funny, then she get’s up and he thinks she’s going to get him a drink and she just kicks him in his chest. 😂
Those scenes had me rolling. There were definitely moments where you could see Billy was trying so hard not to laugh at Agatha. But it also made me wonder if they let Katherine Hahn do some improv and not warn Joe Locke. Those scenes were great. I really enjoyed this episode.
I want a post credit scene with the entire coven sitting in the front row of that one man show in Paramus, and Patti LuPone being the only one to applaud when it's over.
I, on the other hand, consider it to be the one major blemish on an otherwise phenomenal episode/series so far. The multiple retcons about the twins' souls' origin are convoluted when added together, their getting reincarnated in the past is not. The Kaplans losing their son and unknowingly adopting a stranger is just cruel.
I think this episode did a really great job simplifying yet adapting Billy Kaplan's origin story very well/faithfully for the MCU. Adapting the comics very faithfully while also fitting it into the established world and continuity of the MCU seamlessly. Must have been a very tricky thing to pull off, but in my opinion, I think the writers did it very well.
I loved the “don’t you dare feel guilty about your talent” line. That was the real-the hurt and innocent-Agatha. The villainy is a facade. I love the depth of her character.
Also "It's nice to see you again, Billy." line. It feels warm and sincere, like in her talk with Billy after he recovered in episode 4. And she switched back to her witchy voice right after that.
@@lilliawright3771 yep! I’ve recently found that I’m learning more from Grace Randolph’s breakdowns, rather than these types of channels now. They’re all trying so hard to just get their videos out before the others, that they misinterpret so much 😅 Really don’t mean to be rude, just a recent observation.
I think this is the saddest episode too. Billy Kaplan died, he’s gone, all his memories, and who he is, is gone. This young boy, the day of his Bar Mitzvah, snuffed out. And to make it worse, his body remains, used by a magic soul creation. His parents see their son, but it’s not him any more. And when you think about it, he has spent more time as Billy Kaplan, than Billy Maximoff. Jeff and Rebecca have raised him for 3 years, while he popped into existence and rapidly aged with Wanda and Vision for only a few weeks.
It's why I've hated this change ever since it was first leaked/rumored about a year ago. The origin of the souls is complicated in the comics due to the multiple retcons, but the concept of reality getting changed to them being reincarnated in the past is not. It's a completely needless tragedy.
@@twincast2005it’s not needless, it’s supposed to be tragic & fits well. It also makes more sense for Billy to be reincarnated into a dying kid’s life….Energy is neither created nor destroyed
@@IceCold_Carter The comics work just fine with no forced tragedy, thus needless. And both are magical soul travels, neither of them makes more sense than the other.
When Eddie says he thought it was an avengers training exercise, I’m fairly sure it’s a callback to when Tony said “Training exercise, isn’t that the usual BS” in Iron Man 1 when Rhodey asks what he’s gonna tell the press
The song that Billy and Eddie are listening to in the car is by Orville Peck, who is a gay singer, but also he performs wearing a mask that conceals his identity, much like Billy's true identity is hidden.
Agatha's brooch was in a plastic bag because Agatha was living a police sitcom fantasy. She "found" the brooch at the "crime scene" (probably her living room), bagged it for evidence (put it in a ziplock bag) and put it into the evidence locker (her jewelry box).
@@kirby21-xz4rx Honestly, I missed it when I watched the episode yesterday. I noticed it while watching this breakdown when they lingered over the shot twice.
LILLIA THEORY- I think Lillia Calderu wanted to save William, but her powers told her not to. The tower reversed was for her. If she tried to save him, she would have been resisting or denying an important or nessisary change. She had to let him become Wiccan. The sigil was so she wouldn't have to live with the guilt, not to protect him from anything. The sigil protects her from traumatic memories. Even when working a bar mitzvah, she has at least one sigil on hand to protect herself from the trauma of witnessing these horrible futures. It is a super sad practice but also pretty ingenious. Except all those little sigils eventually add up to a lot of missing pieces. Those missing pieces may be the cause of all the issues she's having. So her completing the witches road would magically destroy all the sigils she created over the centuries, give her back all her memories, and also allow her better control over her divination abilities.
A sigil is a symbol and can be written on anything - as proven in wandavision - so you insinuations that she brought it with her makes little sense considering if she wanted that sigil on that boy, she could’ve used any surface to write the symbol. And I believe Lillia wants to get to the end of the road surrounding her family/original coven. Context clues: episode 2. While she was in that house, she was entranced by a ghost from her past, looked like a fam member. I think it’s simple as this: she saw that Billy would become Wiccan and she sensed that she needed to mask this fact, at least until he gained his power and could destroy the sigil (which is exactly what happened) the memory loss was a necessary part of the vigil but it’s not over guilt. This woman lived for centuries and has many people die. Makes no sense. I would imagine if you live for centuries, you would feel little for the people who are hundreds of years younger than you, maybe unless you’re a witch too. Ijs
@@AnaAcuraErica I think the intention of the comment is that Lillia has sigils not only on Billy but with other people too, which ended up damaging her memory and her ability to control her power. Memories are painful to her, as we could see, so it makes sense thematically. Other sigils that She has made over the centuries could be destroyed in the Witches Road, making her face with the past so She can have a better understanding of the future.
@@MatiasBenavides oh okay lol so it’s that yall are assuming she has memory issues? Is this because of her random blurt outs without any context? I just rewatched the series and I genuinely did not catch any clues that this woman has memory problems 🤷🏽♀️ if you can elaborate on that, please do. Other than that- I don’t see how yall can draw a conclusion like that. I mean, the woman runs multiple businesses and was able to recall who Agatha was, along with the other witches. What am I missing here, lmao
As a Jewish professional and comics nerd, I was VERY happy with how Marvel handled Kaplan's Jewish representation! And ScreenCrush did a great job pointing out the Jewish content! Two additional Jewish "easter eggs" (is that a thing??): 1) The last name Kaplan is a variant of Cohen, the Hebrew word for Priest that many believe signifies priestly lineage in a Jewish family (passed down through the father). This lends even more meaning to William's Torah portion being about the sons of Aaron (the High Priest) offering "strange fire" on the altar. 2) When the Kaplans return home from the hospital, a mezuzzah is clearly visible on the door. Not only is this a lovely additional touch of Jewish realism, but the mezuzzah itself is kind of like a sigil - protecting the home and those who come and go from it. It contains a famous passage from the Torah about teaching your children of God's unity - "when you sit in your house and when you WALK ON THE ROAD" (Deut. 6:7)
Talking about the GREAT acting choices of Kathryn Hahn in her dialogue with Billy at the end of the episode, I LOVE how at one point she's teary eyed and speaks proudly of how Billy broke the rules and survived. She was also proud of how Wanda survived her traumas and of her powers (even if she coveted them - just as I think she is envy of Billy's now). It brings me back to the original mentor aspect of Agatha from the comics, before she became more like a frenemy to the Scarlet Witch.
Thought so too, but Hulklings name is Teddy not Eddie, but they are close My brother said he read somewhere and even though it’s close he’s not Hulkling. But I said the exact same thing about the arms comment being a clue so who knows
@@robb7509 TBF, Teddy is used as a nickname for Edward as well as Theodore, if they are truly changing it to avoid conflation with the other famous fictional Teddy Altman, but that’s just something I heard around.
Death is unable to kill for herself. It is one of the fundamental rules of the universe. It is why Thanos (in the comics), who was in love with Death, wanted to use the infinity stones to kill 1/2 the universe. To give her something she cannot get for herself.
@@shivi5669 yes, and remember in avengers during the end credits scene where the functionary is reporting back to thanos and says “… to challenge them is to court death.” And thanos smiles. At one point the idea was for thanos to love death.
While Agatha was monologuing at Billy, she took on the body language and hand manerisms of the Witch from Wizard of Oz. It was subtle but a really awesome choice.
“WHAT DOES BILLY MAXIMOFF WANT AT THE END OF THE ROAD?” Is one of my favorite line readings in all of the MCU she was pitch perfect with that delivery.
The way Billy asks Bohner "do you feel like it changed you, can you like do stuff now? stuff you couldn't do before" sounds like it implies he's been able to do more than just read minds
Is it possible that Agatha took an interest in Wanda's magic because she had seemingly resurrected Vision? And that she killed Sparky to see if Wanda really did have the ability to bring back the dead? Because she seemed genuinely interested in that moment about asking Wanda if she really could bring him back. And she's shown very obvious remorse and affection around Nicholas Scratch. I'm just wondering if Agatha's end goal is to bring back her son. Obviously Wanda having immense power would also be a draw for Agatha, but I think the reason she spent so much time in the Hex was to see if she could figure out how she brought back Vision.
@@ThePlayTyperGuy She said that, sure. But Agatha isn’t the sort to come out and say “I’m looking for the power to resurrect my dead son”. I just don’t think she would stick around for so long if it was just about stealing Wanda’s raw power. If Wanda could bring back the dead, that would be a power that Agatha hadn’t seen before and actively desires, so I could see her trying to figure out how Wanda did that and diving into Wanda’s past to try and figure out how it worked.
I just loved the fact that they brought in Billy this way, and I do truly hope that is Hulkling! And the way Billy texted him with “Thank you for protecting me”? That’s something Hulkling would have done for Billy in the comics. He was always there for him! I hope that’s him, I truly do! I am loving this show! Can’t wait for next week!
When Agatha says, "You're after Toby!", I took it as a reference to the 1986 cult film "Labyrinth" with David Bowie. In the movie, a teenager enters a magical world ruled by a wizard to find her brother...Toby. She's literally "after Toby."
Calling Tommy “Toby” wasn’t a slip up. Agatha’s pushing Billy’s buttons, learning how to manipulate him. She can’t remember Sharon’s name because a) she was trapped in the Agnes persona for the last three years and b) she doesn’t care who Sharon is. She knew Billy and Tommy in the hex, she used them as hostages, she knows Wanda created them with her scarlet witch chaos magic. Free of the illusion and not blinded by the sigil, she very much cares about the only available links to Wanda’s power.
Agreed. That whole conversation was a mirror of the Wandavision episode where Agatha examines Wanda's life to learn the source of her power. It's great writing to make this "psychologist/detective" aspect of Agatha's personality consistent across the series.
agatha telling billy "dont you dare feel guilty about your talent" reminded me of the scene in shameless where monica tells ian "you should never apologize for being you"
Being excited for new episodes of Agatha reminds me of 2021 when Disney+ was firing on all cylinders with Marvel shows and everyone was discussing them because it was the first content the MCU had put out since Endgame. Reminds me of when it was fun to be an MCU fan instead of all the Bandwagon fans turning on it after the quality dropped.
Regarding Billy's posters before his change, there's also a loose "into the woods" theme going on. This usually symbolizes a young protagonist entering the woods, going through some sort of trial or test of character, and comes out a changed person.
For me, the "Don't you dare feel guilty about your talent" part, reminded me of the sentiment that Magneto has about someone being a mutant, and of the conversation he has with Pyro in the X-Men movies. Wise words & truth, from the "villain".
@@ben_jammin9470 Yes, and I think Death also can't actively interact with or influence the real world. It would explain why she does nothing to lift Agatha's spell. It's all Billy.
The power theft seems to be a defensive spell. Agatha can trick you into firing on her, but she can't take your power until it's used against her. Which is why she wanted the coven to fire on her at the beginning of the season and why she goaded Wanda into firing on her. If Agatha could do it at anytime, she would have taken the coven witches' powers already and would have taken Wanda's the second she was sure about her being the Scarlet Witch.
Yes, and it seems as if Billy instinctively knew how to protect himself from her -- he mind controls Jen/Lilia but they grab her using just normal human strength.
I think we all took an L with guessing who put the sigil on Bily. I saw numerous tweets that Wanda's red burst of energy at the end of Multiverse Of Madness right before she died was the thing that did it, and I also saw some tweets that Agatha somehow did it even though she's been powerless for the past three years. But I don't think anybody saw that it was Lila all along, so shoutout to Marvel for making us wait for a much-needed answer.
Yeah, I dont think anyone guessed that Billy was playing the others and knew who he was either. Im wondering if the heavy amount of objects from his life that are in the trials is suggesting his psyche was the principal shaper not the others. Did find his lack of concern for the others a bit jarring though, he really went Emo during the last three years.
I hate that the sigil is in the bottom right corner of Lilia's tarot cards and I didn't connect it with being the same shape that goes across his mouth 😭
See... this is how you go about introducing new, younger characters. Build them up, give them an actual story, draw us in, then reveal. I think introducing America Chavez and Iron Heart in this way would have gotten them a lot more popularity vs ppl saying they were introduced for the sake of pushing an agenda.
When Agatha says to never feel guilty and how he broke the rules, might be a little reference about his homosexuality too, to not be ashamed of who he his, even if for some he might be breaking the "norm" rules. Also, someone posted a theory about Billy creating the Road, you should check it out before the next episode, very interesting and might explain why theres so many link to Billy and his bedroom !
Yeah, that exactly what i think. Like wanda create the new westview, is powers create the road. Is Billy aware of that ? Are the other witches aware ? Is it a trick on Agatha only to change her ? the other witches are not dead.
Its funny that Eddie refers to Billy as his black heart since that would then mean since episode 2 before agatha went to get sharon, they already had a full coven. Jen is water, Lilia air, Alice fire and Billy is earth. Sharon was killed for nothing 😭. Also Billy had always been considered to be part of the coven by the road. Trial 1 needed someone who wouldn't get poisoned as the blood of the un poisoned was part of the antidote and the road only gave out 5 glasses when there were 6 people, making sure that at least one of them didnt drink it (RIP Sharon). Trial 2 Alice had mentioned before that her blood curse only affects the women in her family and we see in that episode everyone except Rio and Billy get burned. However Billy was still targeted by the demon since he got thrown by it into the recording booth. The curse only affects women but Billy was still hit since he was considered a witch in the coven. I just think this show is so insanely good with show not tell.
"We really don't think he's dead-dead because we heard his voice last episode..." - communicating through a Ouija board, specifically a device to talking to spirits of the dead-dead. It's not like Agatha's mom was silent as a ghost. And it was a red moon, meaning the veil was thin, when even normal folks can hear the voices of the dead.
I cannot help but wonder where Rio/Death fits in to the whole thing. The camera sneakily avoided showing her when Billy peeked on Agnes' windows. Agnes was talking to Rio at the time. Has Rio been an imaginary being in her head all along? 😐 The Tarot of Death is concerning too. It is depicting Death holding a black heart in the left hand. Since it's now clear Black Heart refers to Billy... does this mean Billy is her actual target? And I wonder if Agatha will be the one to protect Billy from Death in the end, causing that big fight in the trailer? Perhaps she couldn't save Nicky before. So, Billy is her way to make up for that? 🤔 Oh, and I am doubtful Eddy is Hulkling. But we'll see. Perhaps there is a post credit scene that reveals him to be a half skrull? 😅
Rio being Lady Death, she can likely appear to chosen mortals without taking a physical form, or else, be invisible to those they don't want to see them. I do like your theory that Billy is her true target though.
I do think that saving Billy from Rio will be an "atonement" for Agatha. If we're talking hero's journey and character's growth, there's actually no more room for Agatha to grow other that becoming less self-centered and more self-sacrificing, especially in this case, with her "ward" being her late (?) enemy's child.
Really awesome episode ! I love that we get a Ralph Bohner update, Agatha traumatized him so much he just left everything behind, feel bad for him …. great to see Evan Peters tho 😁I love when the MCU shows the aftermath of an event that we’ve only seen one perspective of…seeing Billy being chased and interrogated from his pov was great, so different than what we first saw ❤ just a great episode all around 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I believe the witches' road is a sub realm or pocket dimension that is created using the subconscious thoughts of the witch that calls the gateway. The misdirect was thinking it was Agatha who called it, not Billy Kaplan/Maximoff. I was also blown away by MTs observation that the colors of the road presented to us mirror the colors of the Infinity Stones in the order they appeared in the MCU movies.
Makes some sense considering how many things in William's room are found on the Road, even prints in the shades of blue, green and yellow seen in the leaves. (The only omission is any picture or figure of Maleficent who will be showing up in the Castle episode.)
Loved how Billy's origin was tied directly to the collapsing of the Hex, the proper peppering of past elements that give new context as well as progressing the character. It properly makes the MCU feel lived in as opposed to a random set of events that have nothing to do with each other. This episode is what I wanted from the MCU post Endgame.
20:22. Brujeria (spanish) or bruxaria (portuguese) is not another type witchcratf. It is witchcratf itself. Brujapedia = bruja (witch) + pedia: encyclopedia of witches.
Yes but the cultural practices of brujería are different than those of Celtic and Wiccan folks. So it is its own thing. Several women in my life are brujas and you better not call them witches or practitioners of witchcraft if you want to avoid a mal de ojo
When Agatha drops the act for a second, her sincere look and voice when she says ''It's nice to see you again, Billy'' is just top-tier acting. It got me. Agatha was so good to those kids (besides killing their dog 😅) and was very much a big part of their fast childhood, almost as much as Wanada to a degree. Amazing episode, just what we needed.
I think this show wasn't even planned when MOM was written and basically MOM was pointless now. I really like that movie but it was definitely not a way to introduce the multiverse in the Marvel movie. They could have gone with a different story line excluding Wanda or Wanda being good and fighting Another Wanda from a different universe who is Villain.
It has been SOOOO FREAKING LONG (ok 6 episodes covering Agatha because that is all I have been watching) since you made a "your mom" joke. Tell the script writer this is a signature comment and we need them! I miss them so much.
Speed is gonna be an epic introduction. Just think "If I can't reach you, let my words teach you." Totally gonna relate to that line of the song. (BTW I think those r the words, didn't wanna google it)
@@offwhitemma That’s a personal opinion. Everyone has their preferences. Although in this case I don’t think they were referring to Loki at all. Besides they may both be Marvel, but both shows are completely different (vibes/genre imo). So comparing those 2 doesn’t make sense. The main criticism is the writers overall.
@@FireJach Most of that stuff is usually fine though. It’s the writing that’s the issue. And again that’s a personal preference. I can’t choose. For a few reasons, but ultimately it doesn’t matter.
Re: Billy’s note about destructible sigils … it doesn’t work the way you described. Destroying it is what ACTIVATES the sigil. So while maybe he was destroying the one Lilia gave him, I actually think that maybe he made a sigil to bind a witch, and in that moment, he used it on Agatha. This is a key moment in “The Craft” (referenced multiple times in the show), where Robin Tunney’s character binds Fairuza Balk’s character from doing harm against others or herself. Billy could have bound Agatha from using magic, something the show has also pointed out with Sasheer Zamata’s character being bound from doing magic as well.
6:00 the tower card that shows Billy and Tommy also shows their emblems that represent them. The crown for Billy above Billy and the lightning bolt ⚡️ above Tommy. We already got the Wiccan reveal so I guess it’s Tommy next.
It should be noted that in the comics Billy was also quite infatuated with media. When taking Magneto (then his grandfather, before the terrible retcon) and the Young Avengers to Europe he made them look like the Von Trapps as "The Sound of Music is his favourite films" ("ONE of my favourite films")
The one thing missing from this episode is a montage where he research witches, studies witchcraft and uses his magic. The show kind of makes it seem like he can use magic, but he never does for three years as far as we know.
He actually hinted it during the talk with Ralph... I mean Randall. "Can you do something more after that?" I think that means beside the mind reading, Billy already could do more like his kid self in WV.
The spell that he uses to break Wanda's curse is from his handwritten book of spells. He obviously had been practicing magic for a while before meeting up with Ralph.
I would definitely be binging this series after it ends! It is one of the most fun I've had with shows 😍. I also hope we get to see Billy reunite with Tommy, & more of Eddie! Kaplan's seem like a good family.
This episode was really fun and we get so many references and answers to things we were wondering as fans, one thing I like was when Agatha and billy were talking at the end and Agatha says it's nice to see you again a nod to well her being his babysitter they do have some kind of connection (nice touching moment)
I think in a way she sees him as her son. She might end up mentoring him. Like she did for Wanda in the comics. As long as nothing bad happens to either of them. I can’t see the writers & co, bringing them back just to kill them off though. Wouldn’t make sense lol.
@@ventustbb3229 That is my guess, too. Most of the Phase 4 and 5 features are about passing the baton. Clint to Kate? Natasha to Yelena. Scott/Hope to Cassie. Strange to America, in a way. I can see Agatha becoming Billy's mystic mentor. And in the end, she may be trying to protect Billy from Death/Rio. Death is holding a black heart in her Tarot Card.
@@ventustbb3229I said from the beginning because of this I think she knew it was Billy and that she legit cares about him and she confirms it here saying she suspected it from beginning. Remember she asked why he needs to walk the road when he got the goods to break a spell cast by the Scarlett Witch. It was hard to tell but it also looked like she had tears in her eyes as well at that part.
@@BrokenSoulConfession I actually hope Young Avengers is mainly just a show. We don’t need constant crossovers into the movies. People get confused. And the show would focus solely on them. We get more character development that way too. All of them except America Chavez & Cassie have their own show. So it’s more convenient as well.
I immediately went and rewatched the first episode after I finished 6, and the broach was one of the items “Agnes” found near the imaginary crime scene. That’s why it was in an evidence bag.
Do we think Eddie guessing ‘aliens’ when Billy asks him what he really thinks the hex was is a further hint that Eddie is our Hulkling? I really want him as our hulkling he seems perfect
Well Eddie and Teddy do sound close enough. Maybe his name is actually Teddy or Theodore and goes by Eddie for short...can't remember did they ever mention Eddie's last name? Maybe he is Theodore Altman.
@@FrankieD8283You wouldn’t go by Eddie for short if your name is Teddy they may have just changed it to not make it obvious and distract from the rest of the story. I think he should be because he was totally game to whatever Billy said and found none of it weird at all like when his BF basically told him he stole somebody else body, he was grinning like yeah your and me both 😂.
In Billy’s room, you also have the moon light with leaves around it. It is starting to make me question whether the Witch’s Road is real or is it an unconscious projection of Billy’s.
I only watch ScreenCrush reviews but this is the 1st time I was anxious to watch a review. This episode was excellent and I needed a lot explained. Thank you, sir and pup,
The reason Agatha said Rio is "not allowed" to kill her is because Lady Death cannot directly kill anyone. She collects the souls of those who die, but she didn't kill. Agatha js very much mortal and capable of dying.
@@JoelBarnes0 Lilia and Jen didn't die. We know from the trailers that they'll be in future episodes. They're both in the Wizard of Oz themed episode that we haven't seen yet.
I have slightly changed my theory on Nicholas Scratch. Since we now know that Billy's true goal is finding Tommy, what if Tommy's soul already found his new host body and is the final test on the witches' road but it's being held captive by Nicholas Scratch. This would create a scenario in which Billy and Agatha would have to put aside their differences and work together to defeat Nicholas and rescue Tommy.
I've been really enjoying Agatha All Along. The whole cast are doing great jobs. The writing is some of the best from Marvel. The directors are doing great. I think it helps they are keeping the scope relatively small. so they are able to focus on the details and give things time to breathe.
Well technically yes but the practices of Latine and Spanish brujas are different than those of Wicca and Celtic pagan rituals. Several women in my life are practicing brujas
@@Yuusfw I think it is a deliberate reference to Rio as her character is a Spanish speaking Latina (at least she presents as such) and Audrey Plazas own Puertorican/nuyorican background so hence they used that
Marvel is being careful in its Latine representation so I don’t think they randomly used that word but in fact are trying to reference other spiritual / magic practices outside of European Paganism
could "Toby" be a reference to The Labyrinth? They are walking a road, like the Labyrinth is similar to and Jennifer Connelly did the maze in order to find her little brother Toby, just like Billy is going down the road to find his brother Tommy.
Was it "filler"? Yes. Did it still deliver? Yes. The origin of the reincarnated Billy Maximoff was truly fascinating to watch. I truly hope the last 3 episodes hit hard. Joe Locke, my good sir, welcome to the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Billy's origin is the opposite of a "filler" episode. Fillers are largely inconsequential - it's not a catch-all term for any episode that doesn't advance the main plot, if that's what you're thinking.
25:54 anyone else feel like Agatha is going to be announced as the daughter of Mephisto? What else can make you evil at birth other than being the kid of the Universes “devil”.
Well it could be her ability, which seems to be a part of her since birth, since she still has it, even after Wanda sucking up all her powers. Or it could simply being born a lesbian in the 17th century.

And I just realized the door didn’t open until he went down there 😮
So Billy is a green witch?
"Blackheart" is also the name of a Marvel villain.
My guess is that Sharon has been a witch all along, she just didn’t know it, and it misled the coven into thinking she wasn’t the green witch they were looking for.

@@prismspheres Forrealllllll. I actually forgot how it was different til I watched this video
The question is : is there a mainstream audience yet? Aren't just all Marvel fans at this point?

I think this episode did a really great job simplifying yet adapting Billy Kaplan's origin story very well/faithfully for the MCU. Adapting the comics very faithfully while also fitting it into the established world and continuity of the MCU seamlessly. Must have been a very tricky thing to pull off, but in my opinion, I think the writers did it very well.

@@paaw-lin4984 *looks like Nicholas Scratch will have the soul of Tommy, in that way both Billy and Agatha will have what's missing in their life*
I think this is the saddest episode too.
I was thinking about that too. It almost would have been better for his parents if William had actually died.
@@sarasharick5209 atleast they don't have to mourn their William, they still have him, albeit amnesiac and a lil' different
That's because it's what the military does all the time when classified events go wrong. It's a known govt thing, not a Marvel thing.
The song that Billy and Eddie are listening to in the car is by Orville Peck, who is a gay singer, but also he performs wearing a mask that conceals his identity, much like Billy's true identity is hidden.

I really enjoyed reading your comment. In a way it makes sense.
Incredible theory and my mental cannon
That was simply wonderful!!! Thanks so much !!
Jews believe in the duat? (Field of reeds)*moon knight* I'm joking, interesting hebraic lore buddy
Loved that detail of William in the crystal ball being Billy how he’s dressed in the present

She's such a great physical actor. I hope this show opens up even more lead role opportunities for her.
She said it was all the complex spells occurring at the same time that drew her to Westview.
Yeah, I also think Agathas Endgame is to bring back Nicky. And that may also be the reason Rio wants her dead, because she as Death can't allow that.
She did clearly say that she was curious about how she was able to resurrect Vision
I just loved the fact that they brought in Billy this way, and I do truly hope that is Hulkling! And the way Billy texted him with “Thank you for protecting me”? I hope so too! They seem so cute in comics & I'd love to see it irl 😍
When Agatha says, "You're after Toby!", I took it as a reference to the 1986 cult film "Labyrinth" with David Bowie. In the movie, a teenager enters a magical world ruled by a wizard to find her brother...Toby. She's literally "after Toby."
David Bowie was great in that Movie
It's also a reference to Tobey Maguire showing up as Spider-Man in the final episode. I'm manifesting it.
good catch
Or a reference to Labyrinth.
It made me wonder if there was a Sigil on Tommy, as well.
agatha telling billy "dont you dare feel guilty about your talent" reminded me of the scene in shameless where monica tells ian "you should never apologize for being you"
Being excited for new episodes of Agatha reminds me of 2021 when Disney+ was firing on all cylinders with Marvel shows and everyone was discussing them because it was the first content the MCU had put out since Endgame.

Omg I love Charmed and I totally missed that that’s so cool!!
"I'm not that nice" wasn't him admitting wrong doing. It was him assuring himself Agatha couldn't get over on him
I think we all took an L with guessing who put the sigil on Bily.
"Who's this guy you're meeting?"
"He was in the Hex with my mom when she was researching resurrection right before she died"
Crawling out of the mud was also a reference to The Princess Bride and when Wesley crawls out of the lightning sand with Buttercup.
Billy confirming his new identity in the mirrors brought Moon Knight to mind.
See... this is how you go about introducing new, younger characters.
The bohner "surprise" didn't surprise me at all, the second billy said he used to live in Westview I knew exactly who they'd meet
Yeah there really weren’t many options of who it could’ve been once they said he used to live in Westview
It was a pleasant surprise to see him at all, but yeah, after Billy said he was meeting him I knew we had to be going to the Bohn zone.
For a second I thought they were going to meet the bee keeper that we never saw again 😂
Yes, but wasn't it a surprise in that moment when he mentioned him?
I thought they were going to meet the mail man who is rumored to be mephisto
Seeing the scene from Billy’s perspective was great. When she kicked him and he didn’t fall I HOLLERED 🤣😭
Love how you sneak into your commercials! You make it fun rather than annoying!
The Tarot of Death is concerning too. 🤔
Oh, and I am doubtful Eddy is Hulkling.
Billy is psychic should he be able to sense Death?
Yes and I think even in the comics The Witches' Road is like another dimension
Yes! The road seems to reflect Billy's pop cultural awareness.

In the scene with the "destructible sigil" Post-it, there was another note with lore on durable sigils, which describes Lilia's sigil way better.
Toby is also the name of the lost baby in the labyrinth movie and his room had that vibe too with it having things from the road
So Lillia drew a black heart as she cannot remember his name as she drew the sigil
It was clever that the first time we could see the Alice in Wonderland poster in William's room is "through the looking glass".
Yes, Billy canonically likes musicals. 😄
Ralph Bohner showing up was awesome
It’s crazy how when this show was announced, I couldn’t have cared less about it. But now, it is by far one of my favorites
The one thing missing from this episode is a montage where he research witches, studies witchcraft and uses his magic. The show kind of makes it seem like he can use magic, but he never does for three years as far as we know.
They did. We see him having mind-reading magic, he has a book of spells and he studied the Hex and found info on Agatha/witches.
He actually hinted it during the talk with Ralph... I mean Randall.
"Can you do something more after that?"
I think that means beside the mind reading, Billy already could do more like his kid self in WV.
Yes I like this moment.
I think in a way she sees him as her son. She might end up mentoring him. Like she did for Wanda in the comics. As long as nothing bad happens to either of them. I can’t see the writers & co, bringing them back just to kill them off though. Wouldn’t make sense lol.
@@ventustbb3229
That is my guess, too.
He needs to buff up but I can see the vision
@Byronic19134 I know that, but hey I've honestly seen many other things with people's names that made no sense so nothing surprises me anymore LOL
He should meet Teddy when he joins young Avengers. It’s a much better storyline that way. He’s young let him date other people
When Ralph said Agatha could keep his bowflex 😂😂😂
KATHERINE HAHN IS 51? What a babe
In Billy’s room, you also have the moon light with leaves around it. It is starting to make me question whether the Witch’s Road is real or is it an unconscious projection of Billy’s.
It's a projection for me. Just to manipulate Agatha. The other witches may be aware too. Sharon is not dead i think.
I only watch ScreenCrush reviews but this is the 1st time I was anxious to watch a review. This episode was excellent and I needed a lot explained. Thank you, sir and pup,
I like the Wanda reference at the end with Billy doing the hood up flip, shot from behind just like WandaVision's final episode.
The reason Agatha said Rio is "not allowed" to kill her is because Lady Death cannot directly kill anyone. She collects the souls of those who die, but she didn't kill. Agatha js very much mortal and capable of dying.
Maybe, but then we still need an explanation of why she survived drowning in the mud when the other two died.
@@JoelBarnes0 I think we’ll get it in future episodes. There has been a ton of teaser content with the two of them, so they can’t be done yet.
@@JoelBarnes0 Lilia and Jen didn't die. We know from the trailers that they'll be in future episodes. They're both in the Wizard of Oz themed episode that we haven't seen yet.
Ryan that was possibly the best intro you've ever done. That should be in the "how to do a RUclips video intro" guidebook. *chefs kiss*
been refreshing the screencrush page for this ever since I watched the episode an hour ago, haha. Let's dive in
I have slightly changed my theory on Nicholas Scratch.
I don’t think Nick is going to be a malicious figure because they changed the Salem 7 to the kids of the witches instead of his.
Is Billy’s boyfriend wearing the Jack Burton tee shirt. Yet another magical quest movie
i like how Agatha saying "a sigil, what that?...."😂😂😂
I've been checking all day😂
I've been really enjoying Agatha All Along. The whole cast are doing great jobs. The writing is some of the best from Marvel. The directors are doing great. I think it helps they are keeping the scope relatively small. so they are able to focus on the details and give things time to breathe.
"brujeria" is not a form of witchcraft , is the translation for witchcraft in spanish. Its the same.
Well technically yes but the practices of Latine and Spanish brujas are different than those of Wicca and Celtic pagan rituals. Several women in my life are practicing brujas
@@solorzn yes, but it has nothing to do with the name. And "brujas" literally means "witch"
Btw I was a Latin American cultural studies professor hence my deep reading here
could "Toby" be a reference to The Labyrinth? They are walking a road, like the Labyrinth is similar to and Jennifer Connelly did the maze in order to find her little brother Toby, just like Billy is going down the road to find his brother Tommy.
0:44 Yes, yes you are. The cutest little familiar ever. High five!
The little skits with the dog are SO FUNNY!! 😂😂
This is just a great show. Great pacing. Great acting. Damn I did not expect to enjoy it this much. Love it
25:54 anyone else feel like Agatha is going to be announced as the daughter of Mephisto? What else can make you evil at birth other than being the kid of the Universes “devil”.
In her trial at the cabin there was a devil symbol in the stain glass too!!
Well it could be her ability, which seems to be a part of her since birth, since she still has it, even after Wanda sucking up all her powers. Or it could simply being born a lesbian in the 17th century.
Billy sensing his brother also reminds me of Wanda sensing the death of her brother
I loved this episode but it was waaay too little to satisfy my weekly Agatha All Along fix. Pls send more.
You know I got to say probably the best part of your videos is the end music. It's so soothing.
I am not saying the videos aren't informative and entertaining. They are that as well.
I just really like that music. And the fact your doggo there sitting being a doggo
Don’t ask about Agatha Harkness, don’t ask about Agatha Harkness, don’t ask about Agatha Harkness. Had me rolling🤣🤣
