Practice Harvesting Connective Tissue from the Palate

  • Yup. I was sitting through a lecture trying to stay awake and was trying to figure out a way to conceptualize split thickness flaps. I eat alot of fruit, and figured that an orange would serve this purpose well - you can practice this at home with simple utensils. It's the concept and practice. This is good to practice harvesting a connective tissue graft from the palate - or - practice thinning epithelium from connective tissue. Give it a shot and let me know if you have something better...

I have watched this video a few times and appreciate it very much. One slight twist to your orange medium was to cut the orange in half and inverted just the peel to more replicate the palate.

Do we need to leave some connective tissue covering the periosteum? Or its not needed? Thank you for the video, cheers from Brazil!

Other than the obvious, feeling for the foramen with your finger, how do you like to locate it? And how far away is the "safe zone" with regard to the artery?

Do you add any xenograft soft tissue to restore the palatal volume at the harvest site prior to suturing?
