I sometimes "front and face" products while I'm standing in line....not really ocd, mostly just bored and with a slight sense of "proper merchandising"
Several years ago, I was staying for a week at a 5-star hotel for work purposes. The company I worked for were paying for my accommodation. On the last day I was at the hotel which was a Friday, my work commitments were finished by 10 a.m. and my flight back to my home city was not until 11 a.m. the next morning, so I contacted a friend who lived in this city and asked if he wanted to finish work early and meet me for a few drinks and dinner. My friend agreed and offered to come pick me up in his car, out in front of my hotel once he had finished up his work. I was standing out the front of the hotel on the side of the driveway in the shade of the front awning, out of the warm sun, when a white 7-series BMW pulls up and parks in one of the “reserved” car parking spots right in front of the hotel’s front door. A middle-aged man in a business suit gets out of the BMW, locks it and starts to walk in the hotel front doors. The doorman standing out front said to the businessman. “Excuse me, are you a guest at the hotel?” The businessman said “No. I’m not staying here, but I have an appointment here” The doorman says “I’m sorry but these parking spots are for Hotel guests only. Unless you are staying here, you are not permitted to park there. You’ll have to park somewhere else”. The businessman said “I was told to park there when I arranged the meeting”. The doorman said “look, I don’t give a shit what someone ‘told’ you. You can’t park there, so move it or I’ll get it towed!” The businessman glanced at his watch, and said “OK. I’ll go somewhere else” he got in his car and drove away. About 10 minutes later, the Hotel Manager came out and she asked the doorman if he had seen the man she was expecting for a business appointment. The manager described the businessman I had just seen and she said “He drives a white 7-series BMW”. . “When he arrives, tell him to park in the reserved parking and show him straight into my office. He and his company are very big business for the Hotel. This is extremely important. Give him the V.I.P. treatment” and she went inside. I then watched the doorman looking at the empty car parking spot and then down at the ground and I distinctly heard him say softly to himself “I. . . Am. . . Fucked!” . . . Yes. . HE don't work here lady. . Well. . Not any more!
Where I used to work the higher ups demanded all employees use the stairs, no matter how much pain you were in. I have severe arthritis for which I was taking a lot of pain meds for. So I tried the stairs a few times but could barely walk when I got up the the floor. I gave up and just used the elevator. Never got any flack from it but got some "stankeye"
The last story had a classic mystery progression.. it was his clothes that were similar to the custodians, as the reason he was being treated like that. Cool reveal!
About the last one about the elevator, I think I would wear the grey shirt more often for work. In my mind at least, my anxiety issues would probably prevent me from doing so in real life.
I used to do security work in a skyscraper when I was a teenager and I always preferred the service elevator. For one, as security I had keys to the elevator which meant I could hijack and take it anywhere I wanted to without worrying that somebody else would be able to get on and slow me down. For another it was the safest elevator in the building. It was said that if there was a fire in the building that you wouldn't want to use the express elevators but the service elevators would be safe to evacuate in. I always liked the thought of a suit in a flaming coffin while I coasted safely to ground floor in the powerful if slightly slower service elevator.
If someone confused me for an employee and the clueless manager asked me to come into the back room I'd just refuse. Why op complied with this request I don't understand
Some people (myself included) don't like confrontation and would rather find a peaceful way to calm everything down. If going to the back with them would calm their agitation a bit for me to get a word in edge-wise I'd do it.
Heard one where they whined because the non employee had helped their customers and sold a ton of stuff and acted like nobody else could actually know anything the products.
Yeah, I'd do the same. I'd ask why.... a lot. Cuz I have no reasons to go into a creepy back room and potentially get my kidneys stolen. Hey if they're gonna automatically think I work there, I'll just fire back and automatically think they are illegal organ harvesting criminals intent on stealing my spleen, a lung and my kidneys. And if they touch me? yeah that's assault and attempt on restricting my freedom of movement for no valid reason at all and I'll make sure they get sued into the next decade.
I,ve come up with a new curse, not profanity: May you be best by ten thousand Karen's. Imagine using this when someone annoys or really angers you. You,re free to make use of it.
It’s most likely for the Karen clientele. I think they’re too good to ride in the elevator with a mop bucket. I don’t agree with that kind of mindset, that’s most likely why they made the rule.
I agree. People always seem to forget how they started out, and had to work to earn their stripes. And it's not like we don't use cleaning supplies ourselves! You're never too good for anything - but you can always get lower in life.
What I do not understand is why anyone not employed by a business would follow a manager anywhere like that one did. Me, I would have said no I am not going in any room and finish my shopping and leave.
Everybody knows that the servant class gets uppity when they're allowed to use the same facilities as their lords and masters. Of _course_ you can't let them on the express elevator, rubbing elbows with their betters! What are you, some kind of radical?! We're going to maintain proper 19th-century standards in THIS building, sir. Harumph!
I Thought "Someone" took advantage of using this express elevator, but your reasoning is most likely. Thanks, probably most of the higher floor employees are "Karens". "I worked for this status & I shouldn't have to share an elevator with an uneducated ugh, janitor"
People don't like to be reminded that maintenance is a thing that happens. Unless they're actively working where it's unavoidable, they're more often than not asked to stay out of sight.
LOL LOL LOL I walked into my grocery store at 7 am..... they don't open til 8.... I pushed doors aside got what I needed and the MGR checked me out.... I'm a caregiver and that early was they ONLY time I could go out before mom woke up.
Well they wouldn't clear an elevator while it was in service anyway. The security desk can recall all the elevators to the ground floor and then custodial would take care of it. But that's not until after hours unless somebody pukes in an elevator, then just that elevator is taken off line and only long enough for it to be cleaned.
I spent nearly ten years in retail, a small 7-11 type store. I find myself checking code and even straightening the odd shelf. Its a habit. Managers often tend to Manage first and listen later if at all. Why would they be in a position to give orders, if orders were not always needed? Some feel "If you were really smart, you'd be in management. " Then there is the "kiss ass above, kick ass below " meme . r/malicouscompliance would much leaner if it weren't for "Bosses gotta Boss" types. r/Idontworkherelady has closely related major subtypes r/Idontworkhere(Thank God) and r/Idontworkhere(Anymore). BTW I recall an uncle who managed a cleaning business in Baton Rouge LA. He said a manager there asked his employees to do things. The Yankee "I order you to..." style just would not fly there. This contrasted sharply from New England, where "bossing bosses, " and "Boss hating workers" were practically an unbreakable tradition. The service elevator thing has two possible bases. First the service elevator has industrial structure and flooring. It would be less likely to spoiled by heavy traffic or chemical from washing buckets. Second, staff / menials are traditionally limited to secondary accesses. The "servants use the back stairs" sort of thing. The attendants are to defer to the paying customers while keeping out those actually working for the facility. Can't have the sweaty Blue Collar types bothering the white collar customers. It is the Tradesmen's Entrance, hiding building service personnel as much as possible. Urgent response time is clearly a lower priority than looking good to customers / Execs who may never break a sweat outside the gym.
I'm a nice person. I've never met a stranger. But how do these people who don't work at the establishment, have no connection to anybody involved and owe nothing to anybody not just walk away?! I don't understand this. At all
Good morning RedWheel. I don't comment much, I just wanted you to know how much I enjoy these. After making coffee, I sit down, sip my first cup, find your video and just enjoy the stories. It's a great way to start my day. Thank you.
Do you listen to yourself when you read these?...."...we never 'refused' any notice?"....when it clearly says "received" , which would also be the obvious word....i just wonder if you listen, because when i hear words that don't seem to fit, i have to go back and read it for myself. If I'm gonna do that, i might as well just do it from the beginning
The reason I started watching your channel instead of the one I used to watch was that you didn't have so much annoying commentary between stories. Please keep it that way.
You also have another couple of options. One : mute the channel entirely and Two: use the fast forward button to skip the between stories sections. A third option is to speed up the video (best while it is muted though). That way, if you become interested in what he may have to say after a story, you can unmute and listen. The power is in your own hands.
First lady "gets lost easily" in a large department store? Yeah, she probably has some brain degeneration, like early Alzheimers or Pick's disease or something. She's not just oblivious. Not that it's the responsibility of the store staff to spot it, much less diagnose it, but she's not well. This would be one of those times where calling the Law might help her. If I'm right, putting her in a police situation would probably make her temporarily decompensate completely for long enough for it to be recognized. Her disease has probably been so subtle up to now that no one has recognized it.
Last story; they probably set it up the new rules way to prevent the elevator from being clogged from traffic. The service elevator, at least now, is probably ONLY for the maintenance and custodial staff for the same reason.
Maybe it's because I'm a man, maybe it's because I'm 60, maybe it's because I'm weird, maybe it's a combination of those things, but I don't get people getting all freaked out over shopping. I buy stuff. The closest thing I do to "shopping" is buying groceries. These Karens and their "customer's rights" nonsense mystify me. I'd never last in retail. I'd tell off my first Karen, then tell off my manager for being so spineless as to discipline me for it. Do people REALLY pay attention to individual bad reviews? Do people actually think that one angry psycho called to account for their dispicable behaviour will wreck their business??
Good day RedWheel, As always great stories & a great way you present them. Now this has been an inkling in the back of my head for a while I guess but just today it popped fully formed into my awareness. Could you please let us know what's the name of the outro music you use? I'd like to take a listen to the full track if there is one, ty.
Easy there guy... one of the charming attributes of your channel is the brief and to-the-point personal narratives at the end of each story. Sometimes you even omit them! It shows us viewers that Captain Obvious need not be present to explain things. Keep up the entertaining work!

New manager needed to be reamed for treating even what he thought was an employee like he did.

Probably. But the manager must gave orders like that before the bmw guy's possible arrival

Redwheel, thank you for the kind comments regarding maintenance/cleaning staff. As a custodian, I really appreciate it.
By all means make it easy for maintenance and custodial staff to get to where they need to be quickly.
😉♥️🐺 Happy Father's day!
The last story....
Who will pay for the time wasted by the staff then?
Sure hope the building administration will take care of that.

Probably didn't realize the manager doesn't know she's a customer, and wanted to cooperate to help clear the situation faster

Are you okay, mr voice actor? You have a somewhat less bright tone in this video. I hope everything's alright. Love your narrating.

Elevator solution is simple. Not allowed in elevator? Don't clean elevator.

Because the only things executives want to do with the peasants is to overwork them, underpay them, and fire them.
