I am telling you. Her statement was quite unnecessary, no one was asking, no one cares.
In a way, i think she made a smart move. White money was her target, whom she pursued vigorously till the last minute. Remember Dorathy made the same statement about her crush being Lord Baelish, just to distract viewers. Princess knows the interrogation that awaits her outside of the house about WM. She probably felt her efforts were rejected by WM, and she's not going to invite public bashing/memes for some shitty unrequited love from WM. So, she did the mature thing and used the community bait- Cross. The strategy was to confuse the viewers with some inconsequential confession and make them forget your pain of rejection. Unrequited love is ego-crushing especially for women, you know. Everyone knows Cross is community crush and no big deal will be made out of Princess's 'confession' about Cross. These were my immediate thoughts when you read the body language at the door; but of course, I may not be exact.

I don't think princess did anything to be embarrassed for. They have always thought she had something for white money, she just wanted to let them know they were all wrong. It doesn't matter if Cross nominated her or not, it's a game, at least she didn't throw herself at him the way other girls are doing in the house. The fact that all arrows are pointing wrong at Maria doesn't mean she's a faker. Sometimes we say some things but we don't even remember saying it. And how Ebuka asked the questions would definitely make you feel uneasy.
However, this Peria table needed to be shaken. Because Pere goes around spreading so much rumors about Maria without she even knowing. Like when she had the fight with queen, he told Cross he didn't like her anymore but this was him in the room saying something completely different, and even went ahead to say he had a dream that he had three sets of twins with her. This Pere guy went and told the guys he regrets choosing Maria because she hasn't allowed him to even smooch or knack. This same Pere brainwashed her with the whole whitemoney scheme and she totally supported his discussion but he's going around saying she was disrespectful. Bringing it back to the queen and Maria fight, when they were in the HOH room, Maria didn't disrespect him but she listened to him as the HOH, however, they like each other as Maria and Pere so it would be clearly difficult keeping your cool when some other girl is disrespecting you because of some guy.
