Lyrics:
I don't need no doctor
Cause I know what's ailing me
I don't need no doctor, no, no
Cause I know what's ailing me
I've been too long away from my baby, ahh!
I'm coming down with a misery
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no doctor
For my prescription to be filled
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no doctor, I tell ya now
For my prescription to be filled
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
Only my baby's arms
Could ever take away this chill
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
Now the doctor say I need rest
(Hey hey)
Before I need her tenderness
(Hmmm hmm)
Put me on the critical list
(Hey hey)
When all I need is her sweet kiss
(hmmm hmm)
He gave me a medicated lotion
But it didn't soothe
(It didn't soothe)
My emotion
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no doctor
For my hope to live is gone
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
I don't need no doctor, no, no
My hope to live is gone
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)
All I need is my baby
Baby, please!
Won't you please come on home
(I don't need no doctor)
(I don't need no doctor)

By far the best version of the song.
Once again: the legend Carol Kaye on bass!!
The octave bass grooves she put down are legendary.
and how!
"If the Bass has Balls it's probably a woman playing "
CA c est fantastique!!!!!; this is fantastic
One of the best Ray Charles tunes that should have been a bigger hit than it was. Composed by Nick Ashford & Vallerie Simpson, Motown writers extrodinaire.
Writing Credit also includes Josephine Armstead.
@@robin2012ism Never heard of Armstead. Did she write or co-write other songs for Motown?
@robertorick6383 (Joshie) Jo Armstead had been a member of The Ikettes. She & Ashford & Simpson wrote hits for The Shirelles, The Guess Who, soul singer Chuck Jackson, and of course Ray. They joined Motown after Ray Charles had a hit with Let's Go Get Stoned, which was also written by Ashford, Simpson & Armstead. 😊
@@91Kingscrib84 Originally recorded by Nick Ashford himself on Verve Records in early 1966, but it didn't chart. Ray eventually charted with this cover.
I also believe Carol Kaye is on bass.
Brother Ray, doing what he did best, what a tune ✊
One worthwhile cover of this fantastic song by Ray Charles is by The New Riders of the Purple Sage - check that out on RUclips..
Carol Kay’s Root & Octave bass groove took this tune to another level.
definitly the best version of that song .....genius !
wasp and humble pie
It’s definitely cool, and I’m not surprised to see that it was a cover for Humble Pie, but I’d have to see the HP just barely edges out Ray’s version.
Featuring "I Don't Need No Doctor" on the Sock Hop Saturday Night radio anniversary show - April 2, 2022 (28 years). It was once said that Louis Armstrong played notes that could not be scored on sheet music. The music came from his soul. The same can be said for Ray Charles. He sang notes, shouts, moans, and screams not found in the lyrics, and not found on the sheet music. He had an amazing 58-year career in R&B, Soul, Blues, Gospel, Country, Jazz, and Rock & Roll. He overcame personal struggles to achieve numerous awards, philanthropic works, halls of fame, films, and television; 60 albums and over 200 compilations. This song is a great example of Mr. Charles exposing his soul, and the Raelettes add that perfect touch to the background. The Genius!
What a groove go on Ray
Uwuwwu! Funkin'groove! No more scripts! No more doctors! Yeah!!!
Backup Ladies in control like an added instrument. I love Ray Mr. Charles...he grew with me chiming in my ears, and helped me learn to shake my Tail~feathers! Y'all have a glorious day! Om 🕉
I Love Ray Charles. Sing It.
Love the bacbeat horns etc
What a voice!
I like the cymbals.
That's Carol Kaye swinging on the bass guitar I believe.
Yep with the 5ths octave groove.
Can’t wait for the album. The man and his soul Mr. Ray Charles. 😎❤️❤️🎶🎶
Ray Charles é um revolucionário da música.
Once Ray does a song he owns it. Many great versions of this song but I like his best.
Go Mr Charles! 51k views? This is an internet disgrace!
Ray est le meilleur
Original: RAY CHARLES ( U.S. ) - I DON'T NEED NO DOCTOR ( october 1966 ). Cover: LOS YORKS ( Perú ) - YA BEBÍ GRAN RATO ( 1974 ).
Blackie Lawless and Ray were good friends..
Tengo 16 años es una joya 😊
👌
W.A.S.P.
John Mayer has a fantastic cover of this song that really does it justice. Great song
so has Humble Pie since 1969... and let's say the WASP cover kicks ass too
Ufff ❤💫
THIS SONG & "LETS GO GET STONED" WAS A JAB AFTER HE CAME BACK FROM GETTING CLEAN FROM DRUGS

Absolute honour I'm here from fabric aim cd bought 20yr ago
it was only 1966, but this wailing, urgent rocker was really about his last great moment on record.
Sick this is.... fuckin" sick...... I don't need no doctor...
I'm here because Carol Kaye!!!
This is the 2nd best version of I Don't Need No Doctor. The best version is the Humble Pie version
Have you heard the WASP version? It rocks too!
travolgente...
Great version, go Carol King!
Can't be clearer 😮.
💙 💜 💙 👑 💜 💙 💜
I can't get no doctor would be more appropriate in 2021.
After all this time (decades later), I just found out that Ray Charles is the original singer of this song. I've always thought it was originally done by the heavy metal band "Wasp". The "Wasp" version of the song does sound a little different, though.
have you heard the Humble Pie cover ? That's the version that WASP covered.
@@bigrigJim , I'll have to check that one out, thanks.
Ray Charles wasn't the original singer of this song, Nick Ashford recorded the track first...
I always knew it wasn't originally by wasp, I thought humble pie wrote it. Guess you learn something everyday!
@@gregorydavidson177 , true.
Carol Kaye
This rocks harder than Humble Pie, WASP......
Like many other British singers of the era, Stevie Marriott really wanted to be Ray Charles.
@Captain Sternn Blackie Lawless is just too dam ugly to watch , but yeah Wasp rocked it
Stung
Bossfan ,ben je gek of zo thé pie 100x beter
@@richardabernethy9013 I love both versions -

It's a shame that the stereo version of this has an almost one second audio cut at 1:05 that's not present in the mono version. It's great sounding otherwise.
I'm just here because of the old guy on tik-tok 😅
Who came here from Humble Pie?
Humble pie live.
I love stevie marriot. however check out new riders of the purple sage version too
I did! 😊
I CAME HERE FOR "W.A.S.P."
"shhweeeeeeeeeeew"!!!! Wtf Ray,,,,. Don't need no fauci. Either..... beautiful mr Charles
If you listen to the Harvey Mandel version it's very much in the same vain as this one.
Here because of Mayer.
So . . . Did anybody else here come here from the WASP cover?
Came here from wasp
W.A.S.P. version is far superior
Medicated lotion....🤔
WTF, The Genius covered John Mayer ?!?!? 🤣🤣🤣
This song was released eleven years before John Mayer was born. Valerie Simpson, who co-wrote it, was born in 1946.
i thought this was a WASP song....
what a crap version... w.a.s.p's version is way better...
W.A.S.P. just copied Humble Pie's cover adaptation of this one. Bar band level stuff.
