Tbh, in terms of visual appeal I prefer HSR designs over Genshin designs (and I don't even play HSR). I can't think of a single "ugly" or "weird" looking design from Star Rail, but for Genshin, I can think of several

Honkai Star Rail has very pretty character designs, but you could argue that many of them share a similar style of bangs (to be fair, Genshin is an older game with a bigger roster). Genshin has more variety in character design, with some odd/bad looking designs and hairstyles as well. I think Xinyan's hairstyle looks ugly and strange, but it makes her look more memorable and unique.

To me he looks like a mix between Xiao Kazuha and Zhongli and I love it. His element is wind (anemo) he wields a polearm and his personality color scheme and his idles are really similar to these characters
Everyone is doing a genshin-comparison it’s normal. Like when the next hoyo game will be compared to hoyo’s past IPs including star rail. Hell ppl still do that with genshin & honkai impact 3rd. It’ll die down naturally in the next few months when the game establishes its own identity & audience.
In March 7th's case at least, the one glove makes sense because it's archery related. Finger protectors like that are worn on the hand that draws the string back.
Gepard is more babygirl (mainly Serval's Babygirl) than Jing Yuan in my opinion. His idle animation alone (singing his big sis' song) is a big evidence.
This scene was to sole reason I was contemplating if I should pick the male MC instead of the female one I am a believer of yuri, yet I somehow still regret picking the female MC after 50 hours of playing this game, like holy shit no matter which one you pick you'll regret it at some point or other.

I feel like my favorites so far are Arlan (he is a sweet summer child who should be protected), Serval (badass with a guitar) and Kafka (fabulous, gorgeous, slightly unhinged, we love to see it). I’m not sure how much I plan on playing this game, especially since the camera movement does make me a bit queasy, but it’s definitely promising~

He just loves her so much that he uses her guitar's case as his weapon (the freak is it made of tho, I am in awe, it is stronger than my will to live like thousands of times) and oftenly listens to her songs, trying to humm along but failing because of feeling embarrassed by this.
I'm pretty happy with the variety of characters, especially since it's just the first patch. I'm liking Yanqing most, with Serval and Gepard as close seconds. I'm wondering if we will get an equivalent to the small anime boys, but honestly am way too happy with how things are already.

Dude’s one of those few Grandpa’s that slays your ass with a million dollar walking stick in style using it to rip out blackholes looking like an absolute drip lord doing it. March is an archer and Welt is an animator. I can't explain the rest of the one handed gloves, but those 2 make sense.
Herta is actually old tho, kinda like Faruzan but in a different cause and scenario (both are sassy savages too). She just de-aged herself and became younger-looking + made puppets of her modeled from her childhood-self (which is the playable character).
