    Thanks, Cody. I put a Rick's reg/rec on my 1975 Honda CB750. Instructions said it should go up to 14.75v when above 2500 RPMS, which is the stock numbers for that bike Mine was going up above 15V on revs, but not above 16V. I was a little worried about that, but it seems like I should fine. Modern batteries can probably handle a little more charge than the old water filled ones from the 70s. Ricks says the slightly higher number is probably because of corroded connections causing the unit to put out a little more power.

    Good information, but tough to sit through. You say the same things over and over and over again. 14 mins. Shorter would really help, I don't have 14 x 5-6 videos to look through. Also, your hands distract from your videos, too fast and constantly there. The camera is so close here that your hands are half of the video. Just some advice to get more viewers, likes and subscribers. I know this was a couple years old. I check out after 6-7 mins especially if it's repetitive.

    Just found & subscribed to your channel. I have a 2017 Suzuki rmx450z that i added a street legal kit and a tuner to.
    Im having what is a common issue with this model. Charges at 14.6 and will kick start and run without issue. They kill batteries and ive had mine diagnosed by the local shop. Nothing found. Lighting works normally.
    Do you have experience with this bike & issue?

    Check battery voltage with switch in off, then with switch on, then with start bike. Best to have meter constantly connected so you can observe the battery voltage in these states. Also if the battery is over 3 years old, be suspicious of the battery especially if it's not a qualtity OEM type battery. Batteries are one of the most neglected/abused parts on a motorcycle.

    Very good explanation for the electrical gizmos. Once I have experienced a dirty old connector between stator and reg/rec. It was corroded and partly melted, bike was charging fine, but only for a limited time before the connector would melt completely. I decided to solder the wires together and it worked fine as a temp fix.
    the 12v system is kind of sensitive to bad ground and old corroded wires.

Lol wrds or your lacking in knowledge when it comes to bike problems if your a adult same on you for acting. So childishly its the starting of politically in correct ridiculed for how you say something or the way. You say it or spell it who cares everyone im sure still knows what he saying. I misspell all the time whats to gain by belittling someone .bring your bike and knowledge to the table with M.D. to me pointing out a little misspelled wrd says alot about that person 🤔

    My bike that has started having dying battery issue failed the very first check. I put the multimeter in continuity mode and checked the individual phase output to ground and it beeped on every single one of them. I am still getting an AC voltage across each two of the phases like you showed though, but i don't think the phase wire to ground continuity should be there and i should check the coil windings inside? I talked to a local mechanic about this and he said one the phases is SUPPOSED to be connected to ground which left me extremely confused, would love some input on this. Thank you so much!

    I bought s motorbike. The eire from the back of the sctual motor has been cut at 15 inches, as in the eires that go into a small jole in the yop back of the engine, right, so it is a Kymco ck1 125cc air colled single cylinder 4 stroke engine. The original sesled battery I charged, and all the electrics worked, including the egnition button, it has no kickstarter. so what should I do? I fancy you btw xxxGeorgina xxx

    Hey Cody, I just did this test on a 77 KZ650, with one prong I was getting about 13V and then another about 30V at idle...quite a large difference in voltages. I wasn't able to rev it as I only have two hands but even at idle those seem way off..seems like based off those tests alone the stator is shot. My question is do I need to replace the stator coil itself or the rotor that's mounted to the bike as well?
    Thanks for the great video

    My 82 Honda Sabre 750, ran perfectly and when turned off would not start again. Gave it a push start, drove it home and when turned off its the same again.
    The battery seems to have drained significantly during that short 40 minute ride.
    So step 1..... I'll check to see if the system is charging. Currently have the battery in a shed charging up for tomorrow and I'll take it from there.

    Is it normal to get empty battery (4 years old battery) if bike is not used for like 2-3 weeks?

    • @ACoustaDC
      @ACoustaDC 2 года назад +2

      Short answer... yes... Batteries can lose 1amp per day, but you may also have a short. That can be caused by a wire that has vibrated so much that it wore through the plastic coating and it touching ground.

    • @TheMotorcycleMD
      @TheMotorcycleMD  2 года назад +3

      Moto batteries on average see about 4-6 years if maintained. They only get worse, never better after sitting 👌🏻

    • @daveco1270
      @daveco1270 2 года назад +1

      It might be time for a new battery. When you say "empty", what kind of reading are you getting on the battery after a few weeks? Checking for parasitic drain is an easy test with a multi meter. You may want to do that. I put a modern reg/rec on my 64 Triumph and it seems to have a very slight parasitic drain on the battery, so if the bike is going to sit for a while, I'll unplug the rec/reg wire that goes to the battery.

    If your battery is lead acid type then dont listen to him.
    Check the max charging voltage, it will be 13.4V
    Over volting the battery is only going to kill it sooner than normal.
    All that crap about charging voltage should increase with engine temp should make you wonder Why did the desogner of the bike include a charging voltage regulator?
    Perhaps the designers of bokes are idiots?
    Maybe NOT.

    • @TheMotorcycleMD
      @TheMotorcycleMD  11 месяцев назад

      Max charging voltage should be 13.4V?! What scooters you working on man?
      I can test 10 out of the box Honda’s and they will charge over 13.4 volts at higher engine rpm.
      Also, nobody said that voltage should increase with engine temperature. That’s…. Just a dumb statement that shouldn’t exist anywhere with motorcycles.
