  • Anti-Gravity Racing is a sub-genre with some truly classic gaming franchises associated with it. In this video, I discuss why the year 2023 will possibly be a good one for AG Racing.
Games I talk about include Redout 2, WipeOut, F-Zero, Fast RMX, Antigraviator, Pacer and more.

Don't forget GRIP: Combat Racing. Functions very similar to an AG racing game and half the craft are AG (other half have oversized wheels, all craft can function upside down too). Had a lot of fun with that one. VR supported too, but apparently is a little queasy with flipping too your roof all the time.

I do know about Grip and actually own the game too but haven't gotten around to trying it out yet. Thank you for the suggestion though, it's about time I get around to actually play it. And it's antigravity aspects may be reason enough to have included it in this video too :)

@@AGRacingCentral GRIP is incredibly fun. It probably has my favorite track designs in a racing game behind F-Zero GX and Mario Kart 8. The physics can be a bit annoying (like flipping from touching a pebble) but when it works, it really works. No other game I've tried has given me that in-the-zone F-Zero GX feel.

Very nice video here, and I agree. Things are getting better for anti-gravity racers. Though I would say, 2024 just might look pretty good too. Super Pilot and Phaseshift are both Early Access right now, but continue F-Zero and Extreme-G's styles respectively. Aero GPX, one of the anticipated titles is set to launch this month next year, VoidSpeed Outlaws and Ripshot are two other games who are still being worked on. There's also Galaxy's Extreme on Steam as well. Some of the games I brought up may not launch in 2024, but those are some of the others that I know are in development.

      @AGRacingCentral  Год назад +1

I think that is a great idea. There are racing games out there that are successful in multiplayer like Mario Kart, Crash Team Racing and Forza Horizon and maybe also the upcoming Disney Speedstorm. I think Redout is the perfect game to become a eSport, if for anything else, but for the fact that this franchise helped to revive the AG genre.
On thing tough, is that i actually prefer that Redout franchise invest in some story, the world building of Redout is awesome, with some really cool sci fi ideas, all it needs is develop more of it's lore, like give faces and backstory to AI pilots, be more like F-Zero, but more mature too.

Nice to find a YT channel that cover futuristic Anti-Gravity racing games since are my thing (well racing games in general but the AG genre is my favorite), specially since F-Zero GX is my personal favorite game of all time (along with Extreme-G and WipEout HD Fury in second place).
Nice video by the way, it's great to see some titles covered which actually I played various of them but still there are some missing titles like:
Radial-G: Racing Revolved: It was released back on 2016 but it was overshadowed by Redout, lol!, it's a very good game with neat music on it and is available on PC and PS4.
Ion Driver: A glorified tech demo game exclusively on PS4 which is kind bad and sadly it had potential of be a F-Zero like game.
Super Pilot: A nice F-Zero X style game with the option of an editor for create tracks on it, similar to the F-Zero X Expansion Kit on N64DD, it's available only on PC.
Cosmic Challenge Racing: A free-to-play game available on mobile (Android and iOS), it's a decent AG racing game but sadly it has various problems of track's design, forced motion sensor gameplay and like almost every f2p game: tons of microtransactions..., at least a good aspect is that it can be played offline.

I can't remember the name of a game i saw on YT once, but i wonder: do you have any ideas of it?
The game was a space racer, where first place drew the track behind where they went. First place had flight controls and could bend and twist the track however they pleased, even being risky and attempting to go close to environments to create hazards, or making swift turns twists and bends to mess with the people behind them.
Last i remember, first place gets points for staying ahead. I don't remember if making someone behind them crash in the race counted too.
I also remember seeing someone literally fly off the edge of the track because 1. They were closer to first place and had less time to see the track ahead, and 2. First place did a sudden downwards bend then twisted and turned left, suddenly sending the other player right off the edge.
I really really want to remember this game, it was so unique and intense of a pvp racer.

I've always enjoyed the idea of a pseudo sim anti-grav game, like Assetto Corsa Competizione, but Wipeout. Pacer is a tough one for me. On the one hand there's a lot to like about it - I really enjoy the focus on skill/strategy over randomization with the weapon/tuning loadouts, but on the other hand some of the campaign and mode designs make absolutely no sense, such as Destruction mode still having cooldown timers on the weapon pickups meaning you can't even fire off a shot because everyone in front of you is hogging them at the start of the event.
On PC, BallisticNG is the daddy IMO. It is WipEout in all but name, with a choice of both PS1 and post-PSP style physics, constant free and paid updates and full mod support. There is a metric ton of ships, tracks and new event types available for download. It is the ultimate AG sandbox and I can't recommend it enough.

The online mode seems to be dead here on ps5. Do you know if the developers still plan on releasing those modes?

Thank you for your question. The game does get patched and updated now and then but as far as I know, nothing has been mentioned from the developers regarding the community content. I guess it's not really a good sign it has been saying "coming soon" for more than a year but we'll see what happens. And yes, it's hard to find opponents through matchmaking on PS5. What you can do is do join the games Discord server, there they organize online races every Saturday evening!

You asked a similar question in the comment section of another video which I replied to. Sometimes the RUclips notifications doesn't really work or maybe something else went wrong but I'll post the reply here too!
In an old Reddit thread people complained about the same issue you describe. It was speculated that the game was removed because of licensing issues with the music. Some of the solutions listed were:
      1. Look for the game on a console rather than a computer. (This might be what you already did yourself).
      2. If it says "Not available for purchase", click the "more" option and the option to purchase the game might appear.
      3. In the "PS Plus" tab, see if the game is listed among the games available on the Premium Tier. Then subscribe to the Premium Tier (if you deem it's worth it).
I hope one of these options will resolve the issue. You are more than welcome to reply again and tell me how things went, it's useful information for me.

BallisticNG is fun until I wanted to platinum everything in the higher speedclasses. Thats when potholes I didnt notice before start to appear and make it impossible to get platinum. Unless I study the entire tracks and memorise where they are. But if you raise the front you slow down too much too. Thats when I uninstalled and never looked back. I mean, at least make em obvious and not as frequent. Redout 2 looks really good, gotta give that a try. First one felt a bit rough. Great sense of speed. Playing Wipeout XL(2097) right now, still my favorite. Soundtrack, atmosphere, the sounds, theres nothing like it

I just wish there were more concentration on believable physics and that the developers would stop being fascinated with telling us we're going "1000" kph. We're not. The scale is wrong.
    So: Believable speed and physics.

@@AGRacingCentral Would love to see a video about the physics... I think "realistic" physics would be an amazing goal for a game in this genre - obviously, the maglev properties would need some serious consideration/invention/rules, but regarding aerodynamics, and controls, maybe we'll get there.
Add in damage for things like striking the other vehicles, ground & walls, and I think it would be a really compelling improvement...
