I'm a 29 year old American man, and this past week has brought me to the point of tears, and now, after hearing George's monolog, past it. I was 16 when the Syrian war first started. I was too young to pay attention to anything geopolitical back then and was oblivious to it until years later. I am a "patriotic" American, and dreamed of serving my country in the military once I graduated high school. For many reasons, that never happened. I remember feeling very disappointed and upset that I wasn't able to fulfill a lifelong ambition of mine anymore, at the time when I realized being in the military was no longer a possible life choice for me. As I've grown older, and especially seeing the proxy conflicts they've been cooking up for us to die in, I couldn't be more THANKFUL that I didn't become a soldier! An AMERICAN soldier in the 21st century. They're playing us all like fiddles again, just like they did with Iraq. I thought we might have learned! I've met so many people my age, and older, who now realize what a joke the Iraq war was, and now here we are 20 years later cheering about the exact same thing. I gave up drinking 3 years ago, but if I still was, I'd be drinking myself into oblivion this week. This really makes me sick
Thank you George. I knew very little about Syria but when this happened, I could feel it in my beingness that celebrating didn’t feel right. Of course, seeing Syrian prisoners whose families finally were able to hold their loved ones after years of suffering was beautiful. I’ve had a son who was incarcerated so I know this feeling but knowing what is going to happen next, it’s been heartbreaking.
I absolutly agree with you! I don't think Asad was good, but to celebrate that he is defeated, thinking that syria is free is the most stup!d thing I have ever heard, if Israel and Usa and the western world celebrate it, then you know there is something really wrong going on!
George, read The Crusades Seen Through Arab Eyes, by Amin Maalouf. The betrayals were already strong a thousand years ago. I was so disheartened by what I read.
My Syrian Christian friend once told me that once the Iranians were done helping Syria to eliminate ISIS, Assad would send the Iranians home and would join the Arab League. Apparently, he did that, but his timing was completely off. Ops!!

It is indeed a sad time. Assad was never the "Syrian strongman" or brutal dictator. He was a weak and fragile man in office who held no real power. As far as giving a departing speech before scurrying away, there's nothing he could have said.
@xtremefight And that's the power of Western lies, they have everyone believing he was evil incarnate with the same old CIA/Mossad bullshit script of "brutal oppressive dictator" when in reality he was a mouse. This is a man who never even wanted any sort of political power at all and had idea how to rule a country.
Bashar Assad is a doctor, not a "weak and fragile man". He did not want this job, but it was thrust on him, after the death of his older brother. His older brother was the one identified to succeed Hafez Al Assad, until he died, and Bashar had to step in.
Thank you for being one of the only voices of reason mister galloway in this time where all media seem to have gone either complicit or stupid. I would say the same as you but Palestine is in there and I refuse to give up hope for the Palestinians. Giving up would feel like abandoning part of my humanity.
I suspect that Lebanon(and maybe even Jordan), may not be far behind Syria in coming apart at the seams. And the floods of refugees will only get worse, much worse. The Levants 'time in the wilderness' is beginning - it will be a generation or two, before something new and better can be reborn and rebuilt.
Didn't even watch the video. Knowing who Galloway supported, just reading the comments brought me joy. The worshipers or tyrants are crying. Those mourning and crying for the downfall of the dictator lack humanity. They want people not to celebrate the end of a 14-year war and the downfall of a regime that inflicted unimaginable brutality... Keep seething guys. All dictators will fall and the spirit of the people will endure.
Thank you George, couldn't be put in better words. As an Arab, and as a Lebanese, I didn't understand the celebrations. The amount of people that celebrated this in Lebanon were hundred times more than the people who celebrated the cease fire on their own country. I really don't understand the logic these people operate upon, and as you said George, they are a majority. I lost faith in Arabs too, I have no words to say..
I have lost all sympathy for the Arab world too. Assad may not be perfect, but Syria under Assad was once a peaceful prosperous secular Country, where all Religions lived side by side. A beautiful Country before certain entities decided they wanted control of the Land and Oil.
It is over. The aloofness and cowardice of the Arab population just doomed them. A very insidious and destructive force has just been let in. Iran is the only one standing.

I’m as saddened as you George at outcome in what was Syria. The Arab world turned a blind eye to the genocide in Gaza and watched on as Lebanon was attacked. Anarchy will prevail at the behest of a corrupted west that desires turmoil rather than peace and death as against life, destruction rather than growth. 😢

We, Syrians living abroad with the hope to go back home we are heartbroken! Our homeland is no longer! Nowhere to return to!

Assad lost the plot in the last couple of years - was ignoring any advice, warnings or offers of assistance from Iran & Russia
Because he never really wanted to lead in the first place. He only inherited this because the brother it was supposed to have gone to died in a car crash and Bashar is the oldest surviving son now. But he is a doctor. Trained in the West. He's been a lame duck for years. Certainly since the end of the Arab Spring overthrow attempts. Whatever spirit he had to continue was gone after that.
Sanctions was choking them. Assad has done very well to fleeing the country. Leaving these lunatics fight themselves. These pledged allegiance to Israel and US than Syria Nation.

You are right. The whole scenario is very sad. 😪
bullshit. government is violence, and Assad was government.
Bashar Assad is a doctor, not a "weak and fragile man". He did not want this job, but it was thrust on him, after the death of his older brother. His older brother was the one identified to succeed Hafez Al Assad, until he died, and Bashar had to step in.

Didn't even watch the video. Knowing who Galloway supported, just reading the comments brought me joy. The worshipers or tyrants are crying.
