By far the best boxing channel on RUclips.
There a better boxing RUclips channels. They message back to you when you ask questions!
Phil Powell did he ask a question though?
You must not know Ramsey Dewey
@@philpowell9111 he replied to my question yesterday
I love how well you explain everything. I'm really interested in getting started in boxing and you make everything so easy to understand. Thank you!
MrsSomthinSick cool thanks for the feedback :)

how yo doin
Instantly becomes the best overview of boxing gloves on the 'net. Nice!
yobbos1 thanks boss!!
Another good tip is to not get everlast gloves.
Big Mac why?
Kyle Patel I personally think they're just not really good, not the best padding, they don't last as long as you would, no wrist support and the weight is not well spread across the glove which gives it a heavier feel on the hands
Neverlast
Henry Lee evelast gloves are good wat u on bout?
Powerlock lace ups are 💦 💦
Really valuable advice. I've been boxing & Muay Thai for around 2 years now and your tips have made me a way better fighter. My coach would always compliment me of how I learned the ins and outs of boxing so quickly but it's due to your videos. After seeing your heavy bag videos it made me way more confident in my bag workout when training in the gym. Thank you so much for doing this, much love
Jonas Films Cool! thx Jonas!
Love how he explains everything
So what am I driving at? Being a beginner, don't invest too much money into your training gear, don't buy expensive stuff, unless you're 100% sure that you'll keep at it. Just go with decent reasonable equipment the video was about.
I'm beginning boxing, and I love it. All I do is work the bag and shadowbox. I get what you're saying here about the hands bc I've tweaked my wrists a few times now, and I didn't even know it until after the session. I wrap my hands too. Just shows how important technique is
Yes sir, wrapping your hands is very important and it is art. Too tight your circulation is cut off.
Too loose it is a waste.
Great advise, I suffered two broken hands my right hand both times. I broke it the first time in Juarez Mexico using 6oz gloves back when they were still letting fighters use them. To this day I have problems with that hand 40 years later.
damm must didn't wrap it well plus 6oz is horrible protection
+Donovan Hunt I may be mistaken and they may have been 8 oz gloves not 6 oz. I did not even know the guy who taped me. Those fights in Mexico in the 70's were tough fights mostly for betting so you were there to bleed and fighter safety was not a priority.
makes me feel good about my recent purchase of the Hayabusa Ikusa Recast
16oz
@air pods When I bought the gloves they were on Amazon. I dont think they sell the same ones I had anymore. I used the gloves for both sparring and heavy bag but I would say its better for the bag. They were kind of wide so for sparring it was hard for me to get through people's guard. I'm currently using the Ring to Cage competition gloves and prefer those. www.ringtocage.com/usa-boxing-approved-amateur-competition-gloves/
@@quachb I think t3's are pretty good. Even for sparring they aren't too bulky and they got double velcro wrist support.
I look at other boxing videos but I keep coming back to Precision Striking the best and most creative boxing videos.
I didn't realize there are so many differences in gloves. wow. glad I watched this before making a purchase!.
i really getting used to your long videos, i dont watch them just right away but in the morning with coffee before a work. way better than any tv stuff. keep it up man!
Lol thanks, I don't try to make them long but I just have to say everything
Very helpful and well informed, especially for a beginner like myself. Thank you! (now to go on and purchase my 12oz gloves for training)
I think it all comes down to personal preference I've played with many gloves over the last 10 plus years. And in the end the design I seem to prefer from gloves are soft with good amount of padding to not bottom out to not only protect my knuckles but also keep my thumb safe , have a slim profile, that offer a snug fit, and have great wrist support.
THe Fat NinJA thanks bro
Yeah I agree man personal preference
Thanks for the input, JT. I actually just purchased a pair of TITLE bag gloves and training gloves a couple weeks ago. At first I didn't like the bag gloves because I couldn't feel any pop on my punches that I would normally feel with training gloves, but I have gotten used to them now and they feel great. I also like switching from bag gloves to training gloves during my workout, but I will definitely try to strictly only used training gloves on sparring days in order to maintain them. Thanks for the advice.
really enjoyed this ... i grew up in the 80s time of boxing and I love it and want to get into it again at almost 40 lol your great at explaining this thank you !
Best boxing channel on RUclips! Thank you!! :)
Huge respect for mentioning the importance of the health side. A guy whom I frequently talk to in the gym does muay thai for 17 years now, he's 37 years old and says his wrist cartilage are worn out. I'm afraid the same will happen to me even though I haven't even started boxing yet lol. Although I believe with proper nutrition and care like this lad mentioned in this video, one can prevent damage!
Carlsberg dont do boxing coaches, but if they did it would be this guy. fantastic channel. Keep it up !!!!
Fairtex gloves are really up there, they are very good gloves but if you usually use 14oz for sparring you may want to go to 16oz as they are very compact
I ended up getting 16 Oz twins for about $75.00 shipped. They are hand made and are way better then the Everlast or Ringside in that price range. I have only used them a few times so I have no opinion yet. I was looking at Morales gloves from Mexico that are also hand made and have a thumb more like Reyes. They are all hand made all leather and I made grab a pair in 10 oz. I will let you know how the Twins work out. My 12 oz glove are Boxing Inc. that are well made all leather that have held up well but I do not know who made them for Boxing Inc.
lisar3006 cool, from what I know Twins are very well made. The ones I had before were a bit bulky and I did not like that, but overall you are looking at lasting quality. Let me know what you find.
They are bulky but they are not bag gloves. I don't like how the weight is all up front and will most likely get a pair of Mexican gloves if I get to spare.
so what gloves should I get for bag work and sparring/training
I feel a lot more comfortable with choosing boxing gloves now. Thank you!
I don't know what to say I just trust EVERYTHING thing this guy says. Not just suuuuuper knowledgeable but BIG BRAINS. When he dissects things from different vantage points you know you're dealing with a BIG BRAINS guy.
All this knowledge for us to learn... for free... any time we want. We are blessed.
There's kids in my boxing gym with like Walmart everlast boxing gloves. I'm over here with my 16oz bag gloves, gassing my arms out, and everyone else got like glorified socks on. fml
Wait til either the moment they use 16oz in sparring or you put on 12oz to fight. Their arms are going to die as they will use muscle to spar and yours are going to fly as you will have conditioned your small muscles to work :) then you will have your fun :)
God damn get off your high horse, not everybody has unlimited access to your moms credit card. Some people actually work for their money and get paid in peanuts, so shut your cocky inconsiderate ass up.
You gotta keep that in mind that not all people have that much money to buy a good boxing glove
Well, I've got 2 pairs of 12 oz gloves: Title Revolution Velcro for heavy bag work and lace-up Grants for sparring. Grant gloves are pretty much overpriced typical Mexican puncher's gloves just like Reyes. I sort of got lucky and bought them slightly used half-price from a newcomer at our gym. It took the loaded guy a couple of months to realize that boxing was not his thing. And you know what? I'm loving them;-) They're high quality lightweight ,soft and fit really great. And since we're not usually going at it full power in sparring my partners really don't mind.
It amazes me that most beginners don't understand the importance of Boxing Gloves PROTECTING the users hands. JT explains this very well. If you have poor punch technique you risk damaging your hands and wrists more seriously. You can't hurt and opponent with a busted wrist. Well said JT!
I just got my first pair of gloves based off your channel. 12 oz. I was laughing hysterically at how much harder I could hit the bag, then laughing again when my shoulders and elbows were ON FIRE! Technique will come later but already you've given me great tips with proper forewarning. Quick lesson on packed gloves made me Dislike Charlie Zelenoff even more!! Boes gloves for me saved me a couple times because I was looking for a rounded glove, again thanks to you. Really good information even for a 32 ear old !
Once again, GREAT insight, shared free. PS is a true gem! THX a million and greetings from Finland!
appreciate the info this just saved me from buying than destroying expensive sparring gloves
thanks for this homie, i took my first class this week, back for #2 tomorrow. trying out a week and we'll see how i feel but a purchase is on my mind. i'm a total noob so this helped
Thanks man great video
Great advice...I can't stand it when guys BRAG about using no gloves or wraps...I feel sorry for their limited time in this sport.Protect your hands!I'm getting over an injury now...been hitting light for about two weeks because of it...just now being able to bang like normal again. Generally get an injury everytime I try new gloves...Everlast 16.99 heavy bag gloves...I don't recommend!
Another great video. Thanks for all your advice as always-best boxing tutorials out there
Excellent points on the wrapping and wrists and hands. For that reason I hated the Ringside IMF gloves without the laces. By far the best wrist support is the hayabusa tokushu glove, but some people find them a bit restrictive for straight boxing. Your own brand gloves actually looked pretty decent. Ring to Cage the japanese model is also excellent glove
Awesome video!!! I too have used two sets of gloves for pads/bag (12oz Ring2Cage C17 2.0) and for sparring (16oz Twins). I agree that the Twins gloves are super bulky but my sparring partners love it because they're pillows. Two separate sets is a must imo especially if you spar a lot.
Best channel on RUclips.
I use a 10oz Venum glove. Best investment. I hated using big bulky gloves. Smaller gloves give you a better visual when throwing punches and you can target better. Just my opinion.
Super thank you! I loved it and I really understood. Very first time so, wish me luck!
Well said man great job explaining this i found your info helpful. Im interested in learning the basics about boxing . Good start. Thanks
Speechless.
As a 53 year old man, I will tell you , he is right, TAKE CARE OF YOUR HANDS.
I just subscribed to your channel. I enjoy watching and learning from your videos. I'm going to start taking boxing lessons and I'm trying to get as much info as possible. Thank you for your detailed info that you provide in your vids.
Great video, lots of unbiased information, Thank you.!!
I just signed up on your website. Thanks for all the future lessons and tips.
In my case i use a mexican brand called iker but I've only started boxing 5 months ago and they're exactly likr the casanovas but from what I've heard from friends is that if your gonna stay at it buy yourself some cleto reyes 14oz, you can get them with a 100 bucks at least in my case since i live here in mexico and good gloves dont come cheap.
lol i have a pair of century gloves that i got from canadian tire for like 35 bucks 14 oz gloves but theyve lasted for a year so far
Much love and respect JT! Keep up the great work!
For bag work I prefer the old school bag gloves with thin high density padding. They are hard as rocks but the force seems to be delivered into the bag rather than my joints. A larger heavily padded glove doesn't penetrate the bag and relays much of the force into my aging joints. It is counter intuitive that a smaller denser glove would be better for an older guy but that is my experience.
That's interesting, I'm going to look into the physics of it. Like comparing a pitchfork to a sledgehammer
I found this out purely by chance. I am now 60 and have been hitting bags since the 1970s. I am 250 lbs and still have a lot of power. I was using 18oz gloves on the bag and it was killing my joints. I really didn't want to give it up because it's such a good workout. On a whim one day I decided to pull out my old school bag gloves with the thin super high density padding. I was amazed when the joint pain went away! I can now hit it as hard as I want with no pain! Those hard little gloves also make a loud popping noise when hitting the bag which got the attention of the youngsters. I can only theorize that those gloves actually penetrate the bag and leave noticeable "dents" while the huge surface area of the 18oz gloves prevent this from happening and relay the force to my joints instead of the bag.
Wish this video was uploaded a little bit sooner before I went and spent my money on any pair of boxing gloves yesterday lol. Just looked up winning gloves, I really like the look of them,
iiiicorey what gloves did you get? I'm sure you will be alright with what you've got.
JT Van V The gloves that I bought were Everlast Pro Style 16oz training gloves.
MrDefault08 You can check out Team Euroza gloves on our Facebook Page (although for the moment it is only in Spanish).
These gloves are made and sold in Mexico City. They are hand made, with the finest leather and high quality synthetic filling. The best there is. You can choose from a wide range of colors and designs and we can send the gloves to your doorstep. Please send us a direct message so we can further talk about size, color and delivery.
Best glove video
I'm starting kickboxing this week, do the type of gloves I get still remain the same or different to boxing?
very in depth advice
Sanabul has been making good 10 hybrids lately.
Top Man - Good Videos love it :)
HEY JT! I can't figure out where to purchase the Team Euroza gloves you mentioned. In the link you posted, It just brings me to the Facebook page. By the way, just recently subscribed...frickin awesome stuff man. Thanks for helpin us all out. I'm new at boxing so your advice has helped me tremendously. Thanks brother!

I recommend Triumph United Death Adder gloves look them up. You can find coupon codes sometimes to bring them down to like $70. They come in both lace up and hook and loop styles.
And shared.
Nice video and thanks for info.
Thank you
I shouldve seen this just over a week ago. I bought some gloves recently while on a budget and totally messed up. This video was amazingly helpful though
I'm Batman what did you get? no worries bro, just wrap your hands right and wear those gloves out. At the end of it all you'll be a better boxer
i ended up getting these graphic ALI gloves just because i liked how they looked but now i know never to do that again. but i do wrap my hands and i am in process of doing exactly what u said. Plus the gym where i train will make my great even with these gloves Legends MMA
This was the most helpful breakdown of gloves I've seen. Thanks. Curious, for mitt work - do you use bag gloves or sparring gloves?
Brian Hui my pleasure, for mitts i use bag gloves 10-12 oz
No wonder why I’ve been feeling gassed I saw everyone in my boxing glass with smaller gloves too on the heavy bag I’ve been using 16oz gloves 🤦♂️ well time to get sum 12oz or 14oz ones
Jt can you please make a video about boxing shoes for training
DaAzianProductions I would but I don't have much experience with boxing shoes personally. I've used only two pair in my whole life. I preserved them for sparring closer to fights and the fights themselves. I would train mostly in wrestling shoes or indoor court shoes because they are built better, more support and last longer.
i got machina gloves - small co. w/ boxing stuff for women. 14 oz gloves pretty well made and fits really well around my pretty small wrists. i know there's too many brands to review - but great co. for a niche market that the rest of the industry ignores other than making the cheapest glove in pink...
mingiweirddays11 good info, thx!!
You are awesome!
I don't see the link for the team Latoya glove the Mexican style glove ...Can u please post the link
Great video.
Thanks for that video. I was wondering if you could talk about boxing against' in your face pushing type of fighters'. Its been a problem of late. I'm Orthodox and this other dude is southpaw. Make foot work a shit and he just pushes in a lot. Really get a lot from your words man.
Love the story about ruining sparring gloves.
Hey JT big fan of yours your videos have helped me to progress and if i ever manage to get the visa you can expect a visit in Toronto !
Anyway i felt like adding some infos for the gloves as i had the same questions in mind not so long ago.
When i started boxing i use to have the 12Oz Adidas, then someone offered me the 10Oz everlast. I can say now they are shit gloves ! Not impressed at all with the everlast, they didn't even lasted a year - i was using them mostly in drills.
I now own two sets of gloves : the hayabuza Regenesis, 16oz, they're great for the bag, i love the double scratch and the padding is good. They don't feel as heavy as regular 16oz but they're a bit big the thumb part is not really great for most people (i'm actually ok with it).
Last month I actually invested in a pair of Winnings in 14Oz and i can see why they got such a good reputation. They fit so well, you just feel natural in them. They are light and the padding is excellent ! I use them for my drills and sparring, and i just love them ! Plus my opponents never complain, so the fact it's not a 16oz pair is not an issue at all. And to be a bit on the practical side i use some auto-blocking kind of lace, so i don't have to ask anyone to lace them for me everytime. It's quite convenient !
Can't say enough of much i love these. They are an investment but i think when you practice 5 times each weeks like i do, you do want to protect your hands and it's going to be worth it anyway cause they won't be broken as fast as the cheap ones.
Hope i was of some use.
Cheers man !
gloves are confusing. I think I will start with bag gloves since I don't know anything yet.
i have the PROTEX2 EVERGEL TRAINING BOXING GLOVES 16 oz use them for all purpose. they work fine for me. they are pretty cheap
A "tough hand" is made through many years of conditioning to impact and strengthening of the hand, not by breaking it constantly
Hello Jt Van V ! I love you and i love your channel . According to me it is the best boxing channel on RUclips . Sometimes when my opponent becomes aggressive can you tell me that how to slip and roll while moving backwards ? Please tell me your opinion ? Can you make a videos related to my problem . I would be very thankful to you .
***** I have a cheap pair (about $60) of Windy's that I really like. My only complaint is that the thumb compartment seems to keep my thumb in an uncomfortable position. They seem to protect my hands real well while striking a heavy bag.
Joseph Crites I feel the same about Windy as I do about Twins, well built but a bit bulky or not as form fitting.
Just got myself a 14 oz mexican necalli (casanova) glove, but the thing is these gloves weigh a lot more than labeled it weighs 18 oz! I feel realllyyy slow throwing my punches and cant snap my hands
Gloves like these are good to prep you for sparring sessions and stamina
Bought Pretorian brand bro 12oz.
Why not train with 16oz so when you go in the fight with 10oz it’d be much easier
AAM A that’s what I was thinking
Don't get me wrong, there's a time and a place to overload your shoulders and build endurance, but stepping into the ring to compete is a real bad time to be getting used to something new. That change in weight is gonna effect your muscle memory and your timing, even if only a little bit. And when the downside of being a little bit off is getting ktfo, it's maybe in your best interest to get used to the feel of the equipment you're gonna use in competition.
Hey JT Van V! Great video!
Nice to hear about gloves wish it was out a bit sooner :) .
I work as a calligrapher so I'm usually dead scared of hurting my hands. Bought a pair of 14oz Venum Elite Boxing Gloves for thai and boxing practice. Feels very good, had no problems so far, but It'd be a blast to know your opinion on them.
Great work with the channel.
Peace!
I've never used Venum, but I just looked them up and in terms of support and protection they look like an ideal glove. They seem to be geared towards protection by their build.
unfortunately we don't have any boxing gym in my country
so i have to train my self
Some titles as my first glove .cannonball coming at ya
Love your videos man! You have any of you fighting or sparring? We wanna see your skills!
Eyy good stuff nigga. You the man JT.
carrnil thx my man!
great info
16 oz for all over 150 in my gym. 14 for under 149
Hey man I was wondering, why did you reccomend the 14oz version of the mexican and not a 16 oz? Especially for sparring doesnt a lighter and mexican glove punch way to hard?
Hey JT, first of all i love your videos and advice! Well i ordered you 12 round heavy bag work mp3 how will i receive it?
Simon Lepe thanks Simon, I will send you a backup link, a link should have also been sent to the email address you ordered with.
Whats the resting heart rate for a boxer? In his prime, mine is 54bpm, just wondering, and you're the man to speak to! Thanks
MrMe4u2nv I wish resting heart rate was a big factor in boxing because mine is pretty good but the truth is it's not a big deal, when I"m in good shape my RHR is between 41-43, right now it's 48. An elite runner with no boxing skill can come to the sport and maintain an amazing resting heart rate. What I think is a better guage is your ability to get down to 120 bpm or less after revving your heart rate above 170 with boxing specific activity. for example, if you hit the bag for a round and get your heart rate up to 85-90% of your max heart rate, how low can you get your heart rate within the minute break between rounds. You'll find that after a certain number of rounds you cannot recover the same and this is where your weakness is.
What does anyone think about the concept of weighted gloves? They say "punchers are born" so do they just help you keep your guard up for longer periods of time without getting tired/sore? Isn't that what the speed bag is for?
Im 6’1” 185lbs. What size gloves should i use mostly for hitting bags? I hear people say go light w/ 12oz or opposite, heavy 16/18oz. Your thoughts?
Jae Lee we have the same problem bro , what u end up buying?
i'm a beginner, and thats why it is totally worth that u watch this 18min. video bcz damn this turn out to be very helpful for me.
but i really have a question----which is better for punching heavy bag,the gloves with velcro or lace up
and finally big thx to uploader for this very useful inf
+Tejinder Singh Swaraj the lace up is good if you have someone to help you lace them up, but otherwise velcro is most convenient.
Thx JT Van V, but now I'm concerned about how can I recognise the sparring gloves from bag gloves, I'm beginner so don't know, is it just the wrist part of the glove that u mentioned in video or something else could I take care of
Thanks for the video. By the way JT has posted a lot of videos, but has he posted one on punching while moving laterally ? Suppose I'm moving right are there any combinations that are superior ? Similarly what about moving left ? Or is it better to just move then punch, rather than trying to punch while moving ? Thanks.
juandenz2008 I cover stuff similar to that in the Footwork video sold on my website
I enjoy your videos they are easy to follow for someone like me, who is in the begining stages of coaching. Where are you located?
Thank you! I'm in Toronto. How about you?
I'm located in Colorado. I wish you was closer, I was looking for mitt work for my fiance. We are always looking for training camps and persons with your skill. Please send a friend request to Marquis Moore on facebook. He has some highlight videos on there that you can check out. Maybe we can work with you in the near future!
Crystal Owens Cool, I will. I"m going to LA in mid September and have done some seminars in Syracuse. It's always an option if the support is right. In the meantime I have some official instructionals on my store page - www.precisionstriking.ca/shop
Talk soon, J
Sounds good. We should stay in contact. Do you have an email?
Or number?
What I want to know is how to type with boxing gloves on.
My coach looks young in the video
Sir, how many oz of gloves should we use when beating sandbags. Some say 12 Some say use 10 oz when beating bags. What is your opinion
I prefer 10oz or even smaller using and old school bag mitt.
Glad I stumbled upon your channel. I'm looking to purchase my first boxing gloves but not sure what size and which gloves to get. I'm 5'7" and weigh 143 lbs. Not looking for something crazy just ones I can use for punching bag exercises/shadow boxing. Any suggestions?
12oz should be good for you, and I’d say look around for the best reviews, but if you’re gonna be sparring with the same gloves, get 16oz
Any thought on Hayabusa? The L3 gloves look great, and have good reviews, but not sure if should commit to them without trying on. Only available online in my area. 200usd approx.
