Satriani - Releasing an album in each decade since the 1980s, how does he feel he has evolved his music since then? And where does he see the direction of future guitar solo players like him and many others?
I started playing guitar in college and a good friend of mine said if you're going to play listen to this guy. That guy was Stevie Ray Vaughan. I think I would just thank him for his music and teaching me that much of what you play just comes from the inside no matter your skill level. Every time I listen to him I hear something different. He never played a song the same way twice. It seemed as though there was a direct path from his soul to his fingers. People can play his songs note for note but it's never the same. The passion and intensity he had in his playing simply can't be duplicated. He was truly one of a kind.
John Frusciante, I feel like he is the guitarist with the most feeling ever . It amazes me. Listen to Before the Beginning or Wayne. They can make you feel some indescriptible feelings, so I would ask him how does he play guitar. Such a broad question
I've met Satriani - I have told him that I want to become as successful as he is. He told me that I will get famous and I should never stop practicing.
“You’re always praying, and you’re always cursing, and you’re always making love. It ain’t do-re-mi-fa-so-la-to-do” One of the best guitar lessons, thanks CS
One of my favorite musicians ever, literally I can hear 3 secs of any of his music and know is him. Eventhough he is not a super shredder that plays lightning fast he definitely gets your attention with the feel he gives to his music, unmistakable.
If you don't play, you'll never get what he's saying. It's all about feel. Feeling the music your playing with and what you want to get across to people. Technique is important. Its like learning to read and write. Once you get to a certain point, you don't have to do writing exercises anymore, you just write what you want. Once you understand your vocab and structure on guitar, you just play. Let it out.
Nicely said. Im not sure mr. Christopher is there yet. He should also know that all musicians and artists are "off" alittle bit. We see and hear things that havent manifested their properties yet. We bring creation to life. Its called be creative. Im sure it does seem weird to outsiders. Some of the pictures i draw are so far out they had shrinks trying to shoebox them into some sort of reasonal pattern as to the way i think and who i am. They never got it. To be able to draw a scene that doesnt exist is an awesome talent. Same thing with music🎶. Thanks. Have a good day.
@@superbeast4287 to be creative you have to venture off the path most travelled. If you dont you're just copying and cutting and pasting. You can either paint a new picture or trace an old one. Both have value though. Nothing wrong with being a cover band kind of guy. Nothing wrong with being an artist. Quit seeing shrinks. Its their job to get you back in the shoebox. Unless your going to hurt someone or yourself and need the help of course. Other than that just be you with the understanding you are on a different path and accept what comes with it.
I don’t think you understand what Carlos meant, he is at another level all together. He is talking about feeling and passion. Get in touch with your self, prayer, meditation, finding your inner light and letting that vibration come through your instrument.
“The way to practice is to take a deep breath, and get out of the way.” This is honestly the most valuable advice in the entire video. Take a moment to process everything that’s holding you back, let it go, and just work on your craft.
You play from the heart. Your feelings and your soul play the guitar, or drums, or bass, or keyboards. It's not your hands. It's not technique. It's not style. It's the lifeforce you put into your playing. Over the past 40+ years of being a guitarist on-stage and off, I've seen a lot of guitar players just regurgitate. Nowhere in their playing is who they are. You have to put your SELF in your playing. Carlos is 100% on the money with that! When you put 100% of yourself in your playing, people take notice!
What I love about this is seeing your nervousness Tyler while interviewing Carlos...reason being, or shows that every single one of us have those folks that we look up to & are memorized by their talent, knowledge, & their views of music as a whole. Tyler, I love this cause it was raw & real
One of the most best, insightful, real and honest interviews I've listened to. Feels like I'm sharing the light with both of you. Thanks for letting me in!
Wow! What a treat. My first concert was Santana I had been playing guitar for over a year and when I saw his huge band with percussion and horns and multiple singers and everyone was so in sync and the dancers were moving perfectly with it all and I saw Carlos standing there with his eyes closed playing with all he had and every word on his mic was kindness I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life. Fuckin’ awesome. I’d love to play with him some day and just zone out in that magic.
Santana is one of my inspirations and my Father's most biggest inspiration really. Thank you Tyler for asking the questions that a Guitarist would rarely ask to a Guitar legend which is the Art and Soul of guitar playing.
Respect to this man. A genuine basic person, humble and truly generous of sharing his knowledge with the rest of the world. Good job on this interview!!!
To have played guitar that long and still think spiritually and philosophically about it like Carlos does is incredible. It's so easy to get bogged down in the scales and notes, etc but Carlos elevates all that to a higher dimension of life. He is a beautiful soul.
I don't have to believe in what Santana says, to respect him as a human being and his opinions. But why would you say that because he is talking in a spiritual way, that he is under acid influence? Would you like to be judged in the same way, if you were in his shoes? Does that make any sense?
My uncle was the bassist for Santana and I will always love their music, he was a great singer, songwriter and I loved his impact on the Latino Community. I praise them for all they’ve done for our representation in the US during a time we never had any
Santana is so down to earth…but, in an ethereal way…open and honest…he lets his music speak in the same way…but apparently with the fifth note as magical as the secret chord that David played! You interviewed him well! 😎👍
Wow, such an incredible privilege... not just meeting Carlos Santana but especially considering he is one of your heroes! Great interview with such a genuinely positive message. Keep on keepin'ON!
Great interview! So many guitarists try to replicate other famous guitarists... instead of trusting that they have their own unique style and sound. No harm in taking tips and tricks from influences, but know that you have your own sound. I am guilty of it, as well. It was refreshing to hear him talk about that!
What a wholesome person. When he was talking about them being the same it was so genuine. Although I’m not going to lie, Santana is a different species than me
He's an amazing listener and thus an amazing communicator. Kudos to a great interview, you really held it together, others would just melt through the floor.
A fine interview Tyler. I’ve watched this thing four times. I’m trying to internalize the wisdom of Santana which seems so poetic but so true at the same time.
I can't believe I hadn't watch this video before! I has been a Santana's fan since I was learning to play guitar!!! Today I was watching one of his concerts in Viña del Mar and suddenly this thumbnail appeared!!! Meeting Carlos is one of my biggest dreams as a musician! Awesome Tyler!
Tyler! How awesome you met Mr. Santana. I truly agree with his words of wisdom. Music should always be from the heart. The true greats (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc.) wrote music for both God and love. It's refreshing to see that music does have people like Mr. Santana that still writes from the heart. In today's world, most so called musicians don't write like that. It's all about standpoints or whatever will get the most sales. It's saddening. Music is a gift.
