@@eDrummerLifeI think the Alesis better pound for pound because of the larger display and smooth touch screen capability. It’s cheaper and can load custom sounds and pre owned samples that you have paid for.
I've had an Alesis "Surge" I bought a few years ago to teach drums in my home studio. Apart from the HH pedal crapping out a month ago ($80), the kit has been great for my needs, and at only $549 at the time, I'm more than pleased.

I really enjoy the honesty in the review considering you're in the business of making money. I have an Alesis DM10, which I added the Strike module (and as many cymbal pads as I could) to it. I had seen so many bad reviews about the Strike cymbals that I settled for the DM10 MKII Pro but upgraded the module for better samples. I recently purchased the BFD Drums VST solely because I wanted the Sabian cymbal pack they offered. Coincidentally-- and unknown to me at the time-- BFD and Alesis have the same parent company. It took over a week to get the downloaded software to work and customer service was useless! They kept sending me the same vague directions over and over again. The BFD download process is unbelievably over complicated. So much so, both myself and a rep from Sweetwater who I purchased it from couldn't get it right. I almost hate myself for even thinking this, but I'll probably buy the Strata module to put on the DM10, If it has enough samples to warrant the cost. Although I can slave the Strike module and add more cymbals with both modules. I'll wait on buying the Strata cymbals once I see enough reviews about them, or at least just get the hihat and ride because I play a Power Bell Ride and the DM cymbal has a very small bell that I tend to miss. Unlike what I've read about the Strike cymbals in an Alesis Facebook group, I never have those issues with the DM pads. In recent years I've bought a bunch of Pearl hardware from you guys for my live kit-- due to your prices beating everyone-- so if I do commit to the new module for this I'm sure you'll be the first place I look. Again thanks for the no BS review.
I legit appreciate ya'll honestly acknowledging you don't know the full ins and outs of the hi hat - that's exactly what makes your content stronger than most other shops that just read from the sales sheet. Disclaimer: All comments are directed solely at Alesis. You missed the mark :(. The wood Strike Pro shells should have been retained. The shell finish should have been improved - I suggest translucent red, or an exotic. You should not have eliminated the 3rd crash. The new upgraded module and high hats were much needed. Hey guys, great video! I have an Alesis Command. Bought it used 1.5y ago and it already came with the snare's main trigger's wires busted. It's been a struggle. Now and then I have to open it up, take off the glue, re-solder it to the piezo, and glue it all back together. The foam around the piezo is really busted now and when I got in touch with Alesis they said I had to buy a whole new snare pad, which makes no sense. I just need some foam ring replacements. @@tinterlandeNot the same. When you're actually playing the kit, ie all your senses and touch involved, you have a better frame of reference as opposed to just hearing.

Unlike most of the comments here. I have used the Strike module for years and LOVE it. I'd love to see a video that goes through all the presets. And I'm curious if I can load my multi samples from my Strike to this module?
This kit looks great, sounds great and most likely half the price of Roland and Yamaha. Unless you're touring and have the income to justify paying double, I'm sure you'll love this kit.
I bought a strike pro se. Those clamps weren’t heavy enough for the toms, they kept sinking and turning on the post! I couldn’t get them tight enough to stay level. I had to return it. I instead bought a Roland VAD 504 kit with the TD27 module.
I just brought The Prime and considering returning it. I love the feel of it the sounds and everything but no matter how i play with the trigger settings. The bassdrum misses triggers or double triggers sometimes. (Missed trigger out of the box) Sometimes cuts triggers out halfway on any peice. Its super frustrating playing and not knowing when you'll get shafted on a hit. Been playing with the settings for hours and testing all sort of setting. Making sure the tension is right on the heads everything. I love the playing experience i cant stand playing and cringing all the time expecting something to miss trigger or cut out or double trigger or cut half way. Man.
It would have been nice to see a segment on latency/ trigger response but overall good review. With your disclaimer and the reputation I already know, I probably won't get one 😉😉
I’m impressed but I hope Alesis fixed the trigger issues when they kept breaking on the first generation Strike I had. The new cymbals are looking better, look similar to ATV. All black with red touches look sharp. I’m glad you brought up the clamps, I don’t understand why they didn’t just work with Gibraltar to make a decent rack, but you can buy metal clamps from Gibraltar to replace the plastic ones but that will cost money.
I have that Amp, it's Fantastic (two Inputs) it's got so much Power, I also have the Chepo Alesis Kit its so simple and Compact, lightweight and the Module has so many Features Sounds, Songs to Practice with, Timing it's fun and helps you be creative, so worth the Money (every Drummer Should have it). It uses a Real Bass Pedal, and they provide it, its actually good (Camco-ish type)
While the touch screen looks awesome i personally like having the phyical mixing sliders on the Pro SE so you can adjust on the fly if you change kits and one drum or cymbal is too loud or quiet. Curious other peoples thoughts on this.
I have the Strike Pro SE, purchased in 2020 or so during the lockdown when the wife started working from home. It’s held up really well, but hasn’t ever moved. I can’t imagine that rack would stand up to repeated set ups and tear downs. Can I buy the new module separately for use with my existing mesh heads and cymbal pads?
Seriously looking at this for gigging to provide volume control, great mix for clubs.Hopefully the rack footprint is not bigger than a standard size 6 piece kit. As always a great video. I will purchase from DCP. Hopefully, I can minimize how far this needs to be torn down. Not sure if someone make a large fabric zip case that might accommodate this. BTW, I think this hi hat is fine for gigging.
How much does it weigh? If precise weight is too much work, just a ballpark will do. Was it not so bad? Could you compare any of it to any big bass drum in weight or more like a 14 floor tom? Facts are we are going to move gear. It never hurts to anticipate what might be a heavy lift or not; regardless electronic or not.
Great question! I'm in a condo and looking to upgrade my Roland TDK17 but I only have about nine feet of width. The manual says 14.05” x 8.97” x 4.09” and that can't be right.
I went ahead and bought it and it is all set up now. I think one needs 8' of width to be safe and the kit/chair etc. extends 6' away from the wall. @@ColonelForbinsascent
I own the Strike Pro SE and use superior Drummer 3 for live streaming and split my toms to 4 additional cymbals, would the Strata kit be worth is since I'd be using Superior Drummer 3 anyway? The module alone is amazing, you rest is kinda whatever unless they've improved the pad sensing
personally when i played this kit for a couple hours i didnt really like the feel of the cymbal pads much and the hi hat felt kinda eh and had some times it didnt trigger 16th notes. i also personally didnt like the module much because the touch screen wasnt very sensitive to touch. was really slow and had to really push in to get stuff working. sound wise i personally thought it was eh cymbal wise. like the one i used only had like 3 to 5 hi hat sounds. ride bell wasnt the best. the cymbals felt like you really had to lay into them to get loud sounds
Just subcribe, nice channel(1st time here...finally!). Wow the sound out of this is just amazing. Don't like the like as much as the Strike pro, but the sound and brain seems really worth it. Thanks for the review.
Seems interesting but I personally might lean towards the td27kv2… though this module seems a lot nicer. I think thetd27kv2 edges it out mainly due to the snare, hi hat, and ride response
Fair point, I think Alesis looks way better, sounds better and besides the triggering issues (that maybe you can twerk some like the ride) you’ll get a full size kit with a modern module and great sounds thats not a big gap to consider.
@@JesusRiveraPercusion that’s true, decidedly some tweaking could be done. I don’t recall, but u funny think these lads have positional sensing on the snare and ride… but correct me if I’m wrong. But I’d agree. Better sizes and more pads is a plus. I’d also agree that this module subjectively sounds better. I hope they make their way to music stores soon. Would love to get a chance to try it out. I think 16:13 sums up what has been in the back of my mind for a while I think for me, I lean towards something with the Roland form factor. If Alesis had this kit as a 3 tom configuration, and a nice kick pad as opposed to a full drum, it would fit my needs a lot better…. But that’s just me
@fartpooboxohyeah8611 I goes I should clarify on the personally part of my comment. With almost every drum kit I would be bound to use it with a VST (my personal choice being EZ drummer), so the sounds don’t really take too much of a priority for me, but rather the triggering, feel, and durability. With that being said, I think for a lot of users, this kit would be a great choice. More pads (that are larger than most kits in this price bracket), probably one of the better sounding in module sounds (not in the price bracket, but in all e kits), and a really nice module. By no means am I trying to talk down this kit…
The rack is fine as in Strike Pro as in Command and their finally combine. 😅 Here I see the same rack, but with 2 additional horizontals. Surely they do thing.
So I've had the Alesis Strike pro special edition for about four years now and I have to say I absolutely love this thing, worth every penny. of course I have some issues like everybody talks about with the high hat, I've also had to go through a couple ride cymbals because they definitely have trouble with those as well. that being said, the feel, playability and sound I get from this thing is amazing. I'm looking at this new one and the only upgrade I see is the module and maybe the cymbals, everything else looks to be the same or maybe a downgrade and it's about $1000 more than what I paid for my set. maybe the strike pro is what people should be looking at still and then possibly upgrading to the new module. I know after this video the only thing I want is the new module, I'm still very happy with my strike pro se.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for them to sell the module alone. They have no plans to do so at all and may not ever do it. I like the looks of the SE, plus the extra cymbal, but this module and cymbals are much better. It’s a difficult decision to throw extra money for fewer pieces, but the module and cymbals just may be worth it. I’m deciding if I should pull the trigger on it myself. Maybe change the wraps to a brighter colour and add the expansion pack with two more cymbals and another drum.
Tried this kit today at guitar center and yeah, I didn’t like it at all. The cymbals felt so stiff and almost hurt your hands when you lay into them and acoustically they were super loud and had an annoying pitch to them(like smacking hard plastic). Also the bass drum was mistriggering badly. For the same price get the Yamaha dtx8 with the tcs silicone pads. The tcs pads are quieter acoustically and you can lay into them way more than mesh heads, the cymbals are softer feeling and have way more give to them and the onboard sounds are way better as well. The big fancy screen is kinda cool I guess but doesn’t make up for the rest of it being meh.
I like it a lot. I somehow think my Strike Pro looks better though? (Obv I’m biased lol) but I’m really digging what they’re going for with this. & great playing!
The dynamics seem good. Thats a huge consideration with ekits. Im sure most high-end modules are better than what i currently have. I wont mention it because its pretty pathetic compared to most models today lol
Unfortunately Alesis customer service leaves a lot to be desired. In theory the products seem great but when there is a problem they are no where to be seen. They can not fix my strike pad multi and now I am out of pocket and have to buy a Roland. I will never buy another Alesis product again.
I can't agree more. I bought an Alesis DM10 MK11 pro. Several of the pads ceased working within a month. The drum store it came from ( a large renowned store here in London) didn't want to know. Alesis customer service don't exist in the UK. It is handled by Akai for distribution. I am in the market for an upgrade. The Strata Prime sounds great, but I am not prepared to make the same mistake twice. Roland do not have the same after sales issues. Shame for Alesis. Think carefully before committing.
Great demo! $3499 seems a bit high though. Roland's TD-27KV2 is an easy choice in this price range for the three digital components, as well as the reputation for great build quality.
Roland sounds suck tho. My strike kit had tons of dead zones tho. I would rather play on a paper cup that sounds like my strike than a real drum kit that sounds like a Roland or any lesser costing alesis
The salesperson (my opinion) didn't sound too confident about this kit...especially when he talked about getting this kit from a reputable dealer to have any issues warrantied with this kit......
is it possible to buy this kit without the rack?? It is not because i think the rack is cheap built and not durable but it is not functional for me cause i would like to have a total other construction of the pads around me (I'm absolute no 2 up 2 down player)
I've watched a ton of DCP video's & spent some coin with DCP. Tom's one of the most "dynamic" drummers at DCP. I just don't see that with this kit. Its not the drummers fault, the kit just failed miserably. The best demo was by the Pizza Guy !🤣 There is that ☺ How Alesis could price this with the technologically far superior TD27 is beyond me. Want a shinny module, Run the TD27 with an IPAD & your favorite VST . Thank you for the brutally honest review. Luv your Channel🙏
if DW would sell just the trigger system for building it in a kit i already own it would be the system of my choice. But the fact they want to sell an absolute overpriced high-end drum kit with it makes it exorbitant toooooo expensive for every normal working drummer
At first I thought wow ok cool sound but the main problem with these and most electronic kits is there dynamic range is very small compared to a real kit ! Anything you try to do subtly is when you see its shortcomings . I find the snare sounds and cymbals are the weakest part . Sorry I can’t compare this to a real kit in anyway . If you need a quiet kit at home I guess that would be the only reason to need this over a real kit .
@@bucknaked31 I’ve played electronic kits even in live situations . But let’s face it , the dynamic range sounds so flat everything is one volume even if it does have a slight dynamic shift with a dual zone pad the snare always sounds odd in the ghost notes . Like I said for people that need a quiet alternative to real drums I get that but sorry just can’t make the keep and say it sounds like a drum kit . And the cymbals forget about it .
I like the module. Overall i like it but...... From a design standpoint: -I hate red and black color combo, probably the worst color combo ever. -The chunky plastic part on the bottom of shell is also ugly should be integrated into the inner shell as to make the person see more of a drum shell and less plastic. -Get rid of rack and use stands to eliminate crosstalk. -The rack would also look better as a chrome color. -Bottom of cymbals could also be a brass color or actually brass (cheap cymbal material) instead of black plastic. -Touch screen should have x-y effect pad just like they added to dj gear and Akai MPC
Its the same price as the Roland TD27KV2, which has the best hi-hat, snare & ride (All Digital). Roland had a sale on pretty much everything not too long ago, the TD27 went for $2800 ! (I bit the bullet and bought one... no regrets).
But Roland sounds suck. This video didn't even go into the other "non drum" type of sounds the kit comes with. So it's like do you want good pads or a good sounding brain. Neither brains are really expandable
Everybody's a critic: In the video, I would have preferred 15--second demos of a dozen kits rather than longer demos of fewer kits. That's it, that's all.
I am so tired of the whining about digital hi-hats. These sound great and if you are going to critique/play electronic kits, you gotta stop being so dang picky…
Hold up 😂😂😂 now I know yall didn’t sit up here on this video and constantly hint at a low cost….and when I click on the link….3500? Oh baby nah….yeah anyway 😂

Eventually, but not for a while due to supply.
What is the approx. footprint of this kit all assembled? X feet by Y feet? Thanks!
Hello. Is there any chances to shipping to Chile?
What kit/preset do you play in the intro? it sounds amazing.
What speaker do you recommend when using this kit?
The Alesis 8 we used sounded REALLY good
Just subcribe, nice channel(1st time here...finally!).
Wow the sound out of this is just amazing. Don't like the like as much as the Strike pro, but the sound and brain seems really worth it.
Thanks for the review.
Thank you very much!
What do you guys think of Tama Star vs Gretsch USA Classic?
The module is using the BFD 3 sound engine? Did I hear that correctly?
Yes
I think 16:13 sums up what has been in the back of my mind for a while
I think for me, I lean towards something with the Roland form factor.
This sounds great. The module UI looks quite good. I wonder if we'll see a model down the road with deeper shells?
No plans of it now, but who knows?
I’m saving to get 1 for my lil studio , too 😎
Can you do a cross-stick playing technique on the snare to trigger a cross-stick sound as done on an acoustic snare?
And as far as the racks go, they're all garbage, I switched over everything to regular hardware years ago and have been happy ever since.
That snare at the beginning is to DIE for! I'm trying to count the voices I can hear....
Wow! "Spirit Crusher" at 8:52, so unexpected ))
Do you think you could identify which drumsets the actual samples come from?
The keyboard warrior in me wants to say yes, but in reality, I wouldn't want to bet on it.
@@drumcenternh haha, nice. Were there at least some tama drums involved?
It looks like the drums and cymbal pieces are easily identifier from names within the module.
@@iconoclast1970 I have seen Justin's video in the meantime so yeah
I don't have enough money yet, but one day I'll buy one
The dynamics seem good. Thats a huge consideration with ekits. Im sure most high-end modules are better than what i currently have. I wont mention it because its pretty pathetic compared to most models today lol
Would you get 2 amps since they are only $300 a piece? Loaded question but could you get a more 3d sound with 2 amps?
It may sound better running outs to separate Left / Right speakers
Hello, I have a question, there is a delay, how can I solve it?
Kit doesnt have bluetooth audio and crosstick is unnatural to trigger
Will Alesis 3 zone cymbals work on roland td27 ir td50 module??
Since this has the bfd engine in it, can bfd extention packs be purchased and added to the module?
Yes.
Nice! Love dotdrumpizza!
Any idea of they module will be sold separately?
We asked, no plans to sell them individually in the near future bc of supply issues
@@adamfrost3722 thank you
I'd like to hear the kit played 'off' to hear how loud the clicking is while playing...to know if this can be played in an apartment.
It sounds like every other mesh head/rubber cymbal kit on the market in this regard.
@@adamfrost3722 The kick drum looks like it has some resonance.
@@ottohesslein3230 it doesn’t.
What amp are you using?
I can't find the manual for the module. Any idea where that link is. Not gonna buy it without reading the manual first.

How would somebody apply for a career with you guys if they live in another state? (Ohio)
Great demo! $3499 seems a bit high though. Roland's TD-27KV2 is an easy choice in this price range for the three digital components, as well as the reputation for great build quality.
The Roland sounds like ass, though.
The sounds and module are noticeably better than the TD-27.
Roland sounds suck tho. My strike kit had tons of dead zones tho. I would rather play on a paper cup that sounds like my strike than a real drum kit that sounds like a Roland or any lesser costing alesis
Got mine not set yet
Module is next level! When can we buy just the module to add to my A TO E conversion kit?
Not sure why they made the toms so shallow?
The salesperson (my opinion) didn't sound too confident about this kit...especially when he talked about getting this kit from a reputable dealer to have any issues warrantied with this kit......
How do I use ezdrummer3 with this module?
is it possible to buy this kit without the rack?? It is not because i think the rack is cheap built and not durable but it is not functional for me cause i would like to have a total other construction of the pads around me (I'm absolute no 2 up 2 down player)
Not at this time. We asked.
@@adamfrost3722 thank you. Yes, i think it comes just in the package all inclusive
Luv your Channel🙏
sounds like combat boots in a dryer lol
dw MAKE A NICE e KIT. This kit sounds real nice with lots of options.
if DW would sell just the trigger system for building it in a kit i already own it would be the system of my choice. But the fact they want to sell an absolute overpriced high-end drum kit with it makes it exorbitant toooooo expensive for every normal working drummer
I haven't heard Special Ed in a hot minute. Yay🎉😂
Can you load BFD expansions?
That's the plan, yes. They will be reworked a little to better integrate with the kit.
The module has NO digital audio out (via USB)! This is - for me - a no go. Best value is Efnote 3X in comparison ...
Nobody compares acoustic guitars to electric ones either, but here you are. Shouldn’t you compare it to other electronic kits?
@@bucknaked31 I’ve played electronic kits even in live situations . But let’s face it , the dynamic range sounds so flat everything is one volume even if it does have a slight dynamic shift with a dual zone pad the snare always sounds odd in the ghost notes . Like I said for people that need a quiet alternative to real drums I get that but sorry just can’t make the keep and say it sounds like a drum kit . And the cymbals forget about it .
@@michaelmalodrums9674 If everything is one volume on your kit, your trigger settings are not adjusted properly.
Not true. Have you tried anything by ATV, Efnote or Roland Td27, and above?
Does the module support Bluetooth?
Yes
@@adamfrost3722It supports Bluetooth midi not audio.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what does it mean Bluetooth for midi but not audio?
Can I play along with my iPhone via Bluetooth and not plug in? 🥁🤔🥁
@@HarnacksIdk No you can't. Phone uses Bluetooth audio. Midi is computer based electronic note number system.
I like the module. Overall i like it but......
From a design standpoint:
-I hate red and black color combo, probably the worst color combo ever.
I recommend saving a little more money to buy Roland
Its the same price as the Roland TD27KV2, which has the best hi-hat, snare & ride (All Digital). Roland had a sale on pretty much everything not too long ago, the TD27 went for $2800 ! (I bit the bullet and bought one... no regrets).
and at least you can do correct XStick on a Roland ;)
But Roland sounds suck. This video didn't even go into the other "non drum" type of sounds the kit comes with. So it's like do you want good pads or a good sounding brain. Neither brains are really expandable
Everybody's a critic: In the video, I would have preferred 15--second demos of a dozen kits rather than longer demos of fewer kits. That's it, that's all.
Joel ddp😂😊❤
I am so tired of the whining about digital hi-hats. These sound great and if you are going to critique/play electronic kits, you gotta stop being so dang picky…
Hey! That's so cool! Feel free to reach out.

Hold up 😂😂😂 now I know yall didn’t sit up here on this video and constantly hint at a low cost….and when I click on the link….3500? Oh baby nah….yeah anyway 😂
Relative
Well, this this the first vid I've seen where this thing even sounded remotely okay. All the others it sounded insanely dead and boxy.
Latency? And please PLEASE have a hi hat that isn’t a pile of scrap
Latency is very good. On par with other high end e kits.
@@adamfrost3722 thanks
its $3499 and makes the DW $10k kit obsolete.
This sounds better than the Dw e sounds. Could you get the module on its own and use with DW e kit? Pair them up?
I just use my Roland and Superior Drummer 3, and that sounds better than anything on the market.
