I recently discovered your channel via Jimmy DiResta's work and would like to say: I like the fact that you add the "what you'd do differently" on your videos. That aspect really helps us amateurs not only with the guesswork but also help gather confidence in doing something that is outside the comfort zone. I just started listening to the podcast you, David, and jimmy put out and love it. You guys inspire!
Great Video! Have you thought about covering the bottom with some kind of white shine-through material? I think that would make the light much more ambient and pleasant to the eye :)
Been looking for months for this sort of teaching tool. It is just awesome. I can now make two clamming wire baskets into ceiling lights as I always dreamed of/pictured in my mind. You made the entire process doable. I understand by seeing things being done. This works for me! THANK YOU!
That came out great! I have to hang a new light in our foyer which needs some customization, so this was on point for me! Cool sponsor as well. Thanks again
SearchWorlds I do not consider myself as a maker yet :) But sure, i will certainly make a video if i will make this kind of lamp, or anything else really xD
Nice project Bob, Not far ago, I did a similar thing, but using LEDs. and the shape was a little bit different, I couldn't fine bamboo veneer around in my town. I like how it came with you.
I really like your ideas and your videos. That you don't try to cover your small mistakes. That you are giving your opinion on what you would have done to make the project even better. keep up.
I am making one similar, but am using a wooden laundry hamper I bought from Canadian tire. It looks very similar. I like how yours is handmade though, and will be much sturdier.
Spend hours and hours and hours in decoration shops looking for the right light fixture, VS make your own. The hand-made one definitely wins ! And if you are not happy with the result, it's up to you to re-do it better :)
The overlap on one side makes it want to be an oval. Even if you put it around a cylinder during glue up, it will flex back into an oval when you take it out. The best way to keep it round is to put a permanent circular frame inside of it. A second perpendicular cross piece would also help. Great video!
cool project! You may also add a piece of veneer at the bottom of the lamp that is a bit smaller than the radius of the lamp. So it would dim the light a bit.
Pretty decent light fixture, Bob! I've been wondering how to DIY one myself, that came out better (and easier) than anything I could think of. I might have added a frosted plexiglass disc to the bottom somehow.
You could probably slap together a box made to the diameter of the circle you are going for with the shade. Might not be as perfectly round as wrapping it around a cylinder but would give you a lot more options in terms of the size.
Very nice! I would use a large/wide light diffusing bulb as well. This gives you light diffusion, without needing a diffuser (beacause a diffuser would make it harder to change the bulb.
very cool bob! last year i made a lamp using "Italian carpathian elm burl" veneer for the shade and it looked really cool lit up .thanks for fyi on the app have to chk it out "TAKE IT EASY BOB!"🍻
Bob: This is really awesome! I will have to look into diyz. I know the basics, but it might be handy to have, just in case. Also, at 4:37, it looks like a sigh of relief when you open the door and it cleared.
It finished downloading a little bit ago. The folks who installed lights into my house before I bought it didn't measure correctly, so I have a cabinet door that hits a light fixture. And another one will hit the ceiling fan if it is turned on.
Nice! I wonder what the glow would look like if you didn't paint the inside, or if you got really fancy and painted some kind of zig zag pattern on the inside :-) Thanks Bob!
Hey bob ! I think I almost watch you for a year or 2 and in the begin there where some easy projects that i could build at home without expensive tools. Can you maybe make something that is a little bit easyier ? ( sorry for my grammer of vocabulary, I am Dutch)
This is really neat! I know that you don't work with wood bending too often, but maybe you can build a hot water/steam bath for veneers and do more awesome projects in the future?
I would also have added a frosted glass disc or fiberglass disc at the base of the shade to diffuse the light. Nothing worse than light bulb glare in the eyes. Right? :) I found a glass company online that made my glass piece for my vintage barrel glass shade (missing the glass cover) to spec - exactly - and they offered a lot of diff kinds of glass.

That's awesome to hear Joshua! Thanks!
I really like how you don't stress about whatever you did wrong -- just make notes on what you would do differently in the future. :) great job, bob!
Nice lighting idea! Turned out great.
To hide the seam in the shade, you could feather the protruding edges with a sander.
Good tip, I hope it doesn't get buried
Never thought a light fixture could be that straight forward. Thanks for sharing!
Great Video! Have you thought about covering the bottom with some kind of white shine-through material? I think that would make the light much more ambient and pleasant to the eye :)
Also because now you you're looking into the light from below which blinds you
Very nice 👍
I really like how you use common materials for this, stuff anybody could easily get their hands on. And it looks great!
Bob,
I just love your videos. Projects you choose and how you teach. Thanks!
Thanks Howard, I really appreciate that!!
Hi bob!
we just ordered a piece of African Walnut veneer to make it almost the same! We might use a metal frame though...
That's a lovely simple build - I like how easily the veneer comes together to just "form". Thanks!
Very cool Bob. Have you thought about doing a "where are they now" follow up video for old projects? Just to see how things are working out.
Nice project Bob, I need to do our dining room light.
Thanks Frank! I'd love to see your take on a light! I'm sure it'd be awesome :)

Cool project and easy way to make it. I want to make one and had plans too complicated in my mind. You've made really easy Bob
Sweet! Glad it was helpful!
Really nice result, and great project idea ! :)
Yeah really a great idea for a project! I saw your channel, you are a maker too!! Will you make a video if you make this lamp?
SearchWorlds I do not consider myself as a maker yet :) But sure, i will certainly make a video if i will make this kind of lamp, or anything else really xD
yaa awasome idea
Quick, simple, stylish, clean and effective. Great job!
Thank you!!
Very cool! And with as expensive as light fixtures are, this seems like a very worthy project. Thanks for making it!
Nice build - I like that you used a lot of material that you already had!
Excellent!
One of your best sponsoring by now, together with the Gorilla Glue. Congrats Bob, I watched almost all your videos
Thanks!
Awesome project, so simple yet so beautiful. Make more of these things Bob!

Good use of leftover veneer, nicely done 🤓👍🏼
Nice project Bob,
Not far ago, I did a similar thing, but using LEDs. and the shape was a little bit different, I couldn't fine bamboo veneer around in my town.
I like how it came with you.
Hi Bob.
Always a simple and amazing project!
I think that you´re already preparing the commemorative video for the 1 million subscribers episode.
I really like your ideas and your videos. That you don't try to cover your small mistakes. That you are giving your opinion on what you would have done to make the project even better. keep up.
Thank you!!

Cool deal man. Goes to show creativity and guts enough to try can solve problems without breaking the bank.
Thanks! Yeah, it was really cheap all said and done.
Very neat lamp Bob. Love that bamboo veneer!
Thanks!
even though you are very tired *base on your eyebags* you choose to make this video instead of sleeping. love you bro plssa don't stop posting videos
Haha, thanks! I think. :) That's just my face and eyes..
+I Like To Make Stuff thanks for your reply, you're very cool bro
your videos make my thursday's better!
I like how you give honest critiques at the end of each video.
Thanks Scott! Some people aren't a fan of that part, but I figure it might helps someone who plans to make their own.
I guess all the things in your house made by you.
This is awesome.
An awesome project, I'd never think of that. Looks great!
Nice solution. Looks good too.
Spend hours and hours and hours in decoration shops looking for the right light fixture, VS make your own. The hand-made one definitely wins !
And if you are not happy with the result, it's up to you to re-do it better :)
This is a really nice looking one!
Thank you!!
It looks really good, Bob! It shouldn't be surprising how nice homemade decor/furniture can look
Thanks Mark!
I Like To Make Stuff You're welcome. :)
Big fan of your work, as well as the podcast!!
Cool project

Ah, great point!
cool project! You may also add a piece of veneer at the bottom of the lamp that is a bit smaller than the radius of the lamp. So it would dim the light a bit.
That is a pretty epic fixture, and it looks way more expensve than it probably is to make. Awesome project! :D
I like it. Not just functional, but looks great.
Thanks Bruce!
That is a good looking light fixture.
Thank you!!
Very clever. Very clever indeed!
Amazing work u do brother.. Became your fan.. From india.
Nice video Bob, keep up the good work!

Great video Bob! Love the light fixture!
Thanks! Good to see you Andrea!
I Like To Make Stuff Im so excited for you reaching 1M subs, hard work and dedication pays out! Congrats man, you deserve it!
Pretty decent light fixture, Bob! I've been wondering how to DIY one myself, that came out better (and easier) than anything I could think of. I might have added a frosted plexiglass disc to the bottom somehow.
Nice idea. I have never worked with veneer
What a nice lamp, realy liked the design!
Solid as allways :-)
great video. This is a nice and fast fix to ad a bit of style.
Great video man, very nice lamp.
You could probably slap together a box made to the diameter of the circle you are going for with the shade. Might not be as perfectly round as wrapping it around a cylinder but would give you a lot more options in terms of the size.
i swear you make the most amazing things
Almost at 1 million!
Nice work Bob! Cool project! And early congrats on 1million subs!!!
Ha, thanks! We're not there yet :)
I would have added a diffuser on the bottom for an even softer light. it still can out really nice though, good job!
Love it! Super simple, yet super practical AND pretty!
That's a pretty cool build!
this was very cool. as fun as the pop culture art projects r it's. nice to mix it up. with something more practical once in awhile
Nice looking lamp Bob!👍
Thanks Fred!
Beautiful lamp! Came out nice!
Very nice! I would use a large/wide light diffusing bulb as well. This gives you light diffusion, without needing a diffuser (beacause a diffuser would make it harder to change the bulb.

"TAKE IT EASY BOB!"🍻
Awesome!
I Like To Make Stuff yea i did a video on it.. make a veneer lamp..🖒
Nice! I need to make a few of these for my place.
That's nice, Bob! Very stylish :D
Thanks!
Excellent and easy project, certainly I will do this for my home. Tks.
Great! Thanks!
Very nice! I may have to "steal" your idea for a new kitchen table light at my house :)
You can't steal it, it's free!! :) Enjoy!
Cool lamp mate! And pretty easy!
Thanks!
as a kid, I got into a lot of trouble for writing on the walls, should have grown up in your place. great job on the fitting
I'm ashamed to say I like to view myself as a mature 16-year-old but I still giggled when he said "lamp nipple"
John Smith lol
Getting close to a million a subs! NICE!
Awesome light! I love it! :)
This is an interesting idea. I thought that you had to have a metal or plastic cover for wires however. Thanks for the video
Bob: This is really awesome!
I will have to look into diyz. I know the basics, but it might be handy to have, just in case.
Also, at 4:37, it looks like a sigh of relief when you open the door and it cleared.
:) Yeah, the app is really well done.. it's very handy to have around! Yeah, I knew I'd measured it, but you know.. there's always room for error :)
It finished downloading a little bit ago.
The folks who installed lights into my house before I bought it didn't measure correctly, so I have a cabinet door that hits a light fixture. And another one will hit the ceiling fan if it is turned on.
looks amazing and much simpler than I expected it to be!
Does it light the room well? the wood seems to block the light..
you are very talented my friend👌
totally love that desing
Nice! I wonder what the glow would look like if you didn't paint the inside, or if you got really fancy and painted some kind of zig zag pattern on the inside :-)
Thanks Bob!
Good Job Bob.
something else you may consider for the joint would be to cut a bevel on both ends so that when the joint comes together it is seemless.
Hey bob ! I think I almost watch you for a year or 2 and in the begin there where some easy projects that i could build at home without expensive tools. Can you maybe make something that is a little bit easyier ? ( sorry for my grammer of vocabulary, I am Dutch)
Pretty good result!

I'd like to at some point. I really want to do some bent lamination chairs eventually. Currently, space is an issue for me.
That would be an awesome project! I hope to see this in the future!!
hello bob
i know you are here
if you are reading this then hi and you are a genius
Hi! Thank you, although I'm no genius.. just a curious person who likes to learn :)
it would be awesome if you did more 3d printing videos
subscriber from Croatia, if you know where is it
3dprinting ja sam isto iz hrvatske brate, mislio sam da ovo niko ne gleda od nas...

hshsh
Ovo mi je genijalno, samo sta ovo nije trazeno u hrv... Odakle si ti
Was gonna try to 'support' you by checking out DIYz but they are no longer in the App Store FYI.
Subscribed today anyways, thanks!
Gostei! From Brazil!

Cool build, might try something out like that myself. On a side note, isn't a perfect circle or trying to attain one the definition of insanity?
Very nice job
Thanks John!
Well done ,Bob :)
Definitely want to try this, and so simple
very cool and informative video as usual! I'm actually shooting a lamp building video soon.
nice! curious if you think that second cross member would help with the shape?
