    Thank you so much for this video! So many other videos show how to do this using a dress form and chalk which I don't have, so it's nice to see I can do this without those tools! I successfully altered a shirt thanks to you Colleen!

    I love repurposing men’s used shirts, they are usually made of a gorgeous fabric and have been worn in a bit so nice and soft ❤️....thanks for the tips on “darting” without a helper !

    Just love your refashion videos! You give such precise and explicit instructions in all your videos but I especially enjoy the refashion ones. I’m a older lady (60) and I choose not to wear or sew some of the refashion clothes that I see. Maybe 30 years ago but not now! Lol So thanks again for doing these videos so we can participate in having less in our landfills. Here where I live in California we have such an epidemic of fast fashion and our landfills our grossly over filled. So thumbs up to you!

      Thank you Robina, that means a lot to me, I want to do my bit in educating people in the sewing industry to think about sustainability, and doing the refashioning videos is my way of contributing. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

    Thank you so much for sharing how to transfer the Tailor's Tuck from one side to the other! I hate how some folks, including sewing supply/device/pattern makers consider terminology and/or techniques too obvious or simple to explain or demonstrate. I'm not exactly a novice but it's been many years since grand-mère gave me her singer sewing table and explained the basics of how to tell a man's shirt from a woman's! I definitely don't remember her ever explaining these tricks!

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I agree that it is important to explain the easy basics first. That is the only way to build knowledge and keep someone motivated to complete a project. Thank you for taking the time comment CJ.

    Thank you. Found RL men's shirts super reduced and thought I can resize them. Beautiful cotton and linen and great colors.

    I noticed most shirts mens and womens have a little of the back bodice over the front , ie. The shoulder seamline is not dead centre of the shoulder. In this case how can one know where the highest point of sleeve cap is ?

    • @colleenglea
      @colleenglea  5 месяцев назад

      Yes! I agree. The most important thing that it feels comfortable.

    Thank you. However I think the top shoulder seams should be closer to the shoulder joint. The problem with doing that though, is you might shorten the sleeve too much. You could pull the sleeve away from the shoulder seam, cut the shoulder line closer to your body and pin back the sleeve. It’s a fiddly process and I know most people want a quick fix and that’s what you’ve shown us. But can you please show us how to taylor the shoulder seam as well? If you can be bothered that is. Otherwise I won’t be tayloring men’s shirts to fit a woman’s body, if the shoulders don’t fit nicely. I have narrow shoulders.

      Hello Tonie, you are right on point about the shoulders and thanks for sharing.

    Hello, is it possible to add darts to either the front or back (waist area) on a shirt that has a small box pleat? It is a woman's shirt? It is a nice shirt but it just too boxy?

    • @colleenglea
      @colleenglea  3 года назад

      Yes it is possible, it will help to shape the blouse and give it a closer fit, which I think you will be happy with. Good Luck!

      @@colleenglea even with the small box pleat on the back of the shirt you think it's doable to add waist darts?

    Very nice but the shoulders need to be adjusted also.

      I don't mind that they are slightly off the shoulders, thanks for commenting Moncheri.

    For a women's shirt, the front buttons should be on the left side, not the right side. You failed to alther this.

    • @colleenglea

      Hello Zhongnangua. The most important thing is that it fastens up, this is an old fashion way of looking at fastenings in garments. Sew happy that you took the time to comment.

      I was brought up feeling that way also, but it is so hard to find a nice plus size woman button down, I'm past the point of caring, if I can get a man's shirt to fit me. Thanks

      Yeah, I agree, that's why I bothered to watch, it's the main thing, as darts are relatively easy.
