Don't forget, all of us, all the time are already being mind controlled by our microbiome. The microscopic parasites living in our intestinal system not only help us digest food, but also exert control over our food cravings and thus what we eat by sending signals to our brains. The yeast/fungus Candida Albicans for example needs sugar to survive and thrive. When the balance in your digestive system is normal, you only feel normal levels of sugar cravings - if however, your microbiome is off-balance for some reason (for example because of having had to take antibiotics or because of consuming a lot of sugar through your food, allowing Candida to grow disproportionally fast) the hightened amout of this Candida-yeast will in turn tell your brain to eat more and more sugar so they can keep growing and thriving. So if you find yourself getting a lot of sugar cravings, it's likely you have a nice little Candida family living their yeasty lives in your gut (according to reserach from Rice University, approximately 70 percent of Americans suffer from Candida overgrowth). Apparently Candida can cause a host of health problems, from fungal infections to skin problems to allergies. (I would watch the hell out of a black mirror episode about the microbiome, that sh*t is freaky)
Our microbiome is more of a symbiosis. It works to sustain us because we are the bacteria's habitat. It's totally freaky to think of ourselves as a habitat. But we need most of those tiny creepy crawlies and they need us. Now Candida and dangerous bacteria like staphylococcus do us no good but are too common on/in the human body to eliminate. We just have to keep a healthy balanced system to give them no advantage.

Thanks for providing the link where I also learned that: Oocysts are very hardy and may survive in the environment for well over a year. Additionally, some of the T. gondii released from cysts from the infected meat will penetrate more deeply into the wall of the cat’s intestine and multiply as yet another form, called a tachyzoite. This form then spreads from the intestine to other parts of the cat. Eventually, the cat’s immune system forces the parasite into a dormant or “resting” stage where it forms cysts in muscles and the brain. These cysts contain slowly multiplying Toxoplasma organisms in yet another form, called a bradyzoite. Also, the article doesn't say poop that has been sitting around for 1-5 days, it says it takes 1-5 days for sporulation to start. It also says to clean the litterbox with boiling water so it's not just residing in the poop. I would argue the way that cats groom all the time it has spread from their anal gland to all over their body and then spread further to everything in your home that they have brushed up against when they are laying their pheromones on everything. Before becoming infectious, they must go through a process called sporulation, which takes one to five days depending on environmental conditions. Cat feces containing sporulated oocysts, however, serve as sources of infection, regardless of whether they are in litter boxes, gardens, or in sand boxes in which outdoor cats have defecated. Once an intermediate host ingests sporulated oocysts, the infection results in the formation of tissue cysts in various tissues of the body. The novel The Girl With All the Gifts by M. R. Carey (and the movie made from that novel) featured a type of parasitic fungus, Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, that has spread to humans and turned them into "hungries." Basically, zombies. The fungus keeps the body mobile until it is too far gone, at which point the host freezes in place and the fruiting bodies emerge. It is really well done and creepy as hell.
Rabies makes you froth at the mouth with virus particles, be afraid of water (which would dilute the saliva), and want to bite anyone you see. Pretty effective mind control. Also has the highest fatality rate of any known transmissible disease.

I sense a new horror movie coming up. I'll just go jump around the edges of a 40 story buildings roof for some reason and of no will of my own. Creepy.
Parasites and hosts evolve with each other. When they jump species, things go haywire, often by outright killing hosts. So a horror movie with such a parasite suddenly appearing would more "realistically" be a plague rather than stable predator prey relationship.
There already is a great story about the corticeps fungus (parasite) but not in movie but game format (the last of us). for people who rather watch movies, no problem. it can easily and entertainingly be watched on youtube by searching for "the last of us movie".
Having spent some time around truly crazy cat ladies, I'm absolutely convinced that Toxo does much more than "nudge" one's personality, or make one a bit more reckless or extroverted. This certainly doesn't happen to every cat person, but those predisposed can be swept to the very edge of functional sanity.
The first time I had learned about the life cycle of the Cordyceps fungi taking over the brain of its insect host and then making the doomed host's body produce more spores, my lizard brain thought, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!" while my higher brain functions thought, "Indeed? Tell me more!" I think it's high time the English language came up with a word that encapsulates revulsion and fascination at the same time.
This was an absolutely fantastic video. I had been wondering for a while why some of these things didn't really affect us, now I know. Fascinating video. 👍👍👍
I hope that by studying these parasites we do learn more about mental illness in humans... because now that I've watched this video I have a severe phobia of parasites :(
Anyone else notice a strange change in behavior where their significant other gets particularly amorous or has a need to cuddle just before coming down with a cold? I wouldn't be so sure that we are immune to parasitic mood alterations if not full blown mind control.
iirc, xenomorphs from Alien drew inspiration from wasps in how they lay eggs in insects that eventually burst out of the host's stomach. in case you needed any more reason to hate wasps.
That part about the Emerald Cockroach Wasp makes me think studying its (for lack of better term) mind control mechanisms might also lead to new insights into the physiology behind clinical depression.
It trills me to think about the parasites that as humans we carry but know about. I mean, imagine if a group of people at prison are like that due a parasite
One popular use of a mind-control parasite/virus is in The Last of Us. I think it used the one that infects ants, and there are visible protrusions jutting out from the ant.

I would like to see a continuous discussion about Toxoplasmosis and the effects on the human brain. It symptoms and the possibility of individuals developing schizophrenia.
Incidentally, every other time I’ve heard of the hairworm that makes crickets drown themselves, it’s been called the Gordian worm; is that another name for it? Also, if you’re wondering why toxoplasma can infect humans, I’ve heard that they likely adapted to attack a wide variety of mammals so all kinds of cats, from tabbies to tigers, could get in on spreading toxo, and some of these adaptations accidentally extended far enough to make them compatible with humans.
I have 4 cats and i rarely see live rodents. Just tails scattered in the yard. I once saw anna kill a bunny though. And a few months ago i saw a mouse just chilling out in a litter box. While johan was using it. I even saw him look at the damn thing that was practically right in his face. But he had -no- interest. He walked over it to leave! and i had to get rid of it myself cause obviously I'm letting it run around my house just cause my cat is lazy. I wonder if he is just that lazy, or if he's evolved somewhat to resist toxo infected rodents. Cause i don't buy for a second that that mouse wasn't infected. I've had pet rats with a good relationship with my dads cats, and even they showed -some- fear. Johan was having bladder issues (short urethra, stones blocking it off, etc. Needed meds, fancy food, low stress, and even a catheter for a while) that's why i was watching him so much to make sure he could use it. So maybe that's a factor? Idk. I just thought it was weird. Idk why the mouse was in the litterbox even. We have cat food to invade....
I had cats who went outside, so I wondered if I could have gotten infected. When he said they might cause recklessness and extrovertion;"I thought I'm safe!"
It's not outside the realm of possibility, but most studies I've seen suggesting a link to behavioral changes in humans are that it increases irritability. So maybe not. Also, unles the CDC has changed their description of the infection, according to the CDC it is incredibly unlikely you are in the group of people that would be affected by TG. It tends to just hibernate in humans, as we are not cats.
@ 7:50 Given my long association with cats, I would be very surprised if I did not have cat parasites in me. At least one of those infects rats in a way that makes them want to be around cats.
I have 18 cats and a feral colony of 7... I have toxo in a massive way.. I CANNOT look away from a kitten!!! (I think the cats know they have control tho) :D
They are mostly outside. I live in out in the sticks. But I can't stand the smell of cat pee, so I don't let it get smelly in here. Now if I could just find a cure for shedding, we'd be ok. :D
“Could lead to better understanding and future treatments of neurological, neuropsychiatric and psychiatric disorders” I’ve heard that a lot of times since I started working in the Mental Health field in 1986. Sadly, Lithium Carbonate, at “80% effectiveness rate in treating Bipolar Mood Disorder” is still the highest percentage effectiveness that the field has achieved. And that was discovered in 1948 in Australia. There’s a big gap between information we discover about the brain and effectiveness in our treatments. And what is the current percentage of Chronically Mentally ill of the homeless population in the USA ? Is it still estimated at about 60% or is it higher? Why are we getting rid of all of the Long term and short term hospital beds for psychiatric care? Are we going forward or backward as a society?
If I recall, from the CDC page on the subject, Toxoplasmosis Gondii that gets in to humans tends to hibernate in loosely quarantined cells and dosn't affect infected individuals, of which there are many (it's like herpes for outdoor cat people - roughly 60-70%, according to some sources). However, there have been studies that suggest in certain unlucky individuals the TG infection can awaken and make infected individuals significantly noticeably more irritable. It remains incredibly unlikely, but still a possibility.
It's interesting that animals already control people in certain ways without having to alter our brains but instead exploit pre-existing structures. Dogs and cats have exploited humans natural tendency to want to nurture cute things and feed them. Cats more than dogs since we have specifically bred dogs to do that but cats are not as domesticated.
@Leah Deacon , majority of cat can fight the Taxoplasmosis parasite on their own. The parasite is like a disease to the cat; a Cat will get infected and then they will shed eggs in their faeces for 2 weeks (so avoid faeces and stay away from sick cat) but then after those 2 week they should be cured of the disease and the egg is no more in the faeces. Source: see WebMD on Taxoplasmosis. Also the parasite take some time to come out of the faeces of a sick cat, so if you remove faeces ASAP from a cat litter (everyday single day) then the parasite have no time to go out to infect people.
UNLEASHING POTENTIAL - PSYCHOLOGY VIDEOS It’s been thoroughly and exhaustively debunked that toxoplasmosis parasites can control people’s brains. It’s also extremely unlikely to get infected from a cat.

I sense a new horror movie coming up. I'll just go jump around the edges of a 40 story buildings roof for some reason and of no will of my own. Creepy.
Majid A and than infect everyone else and everybody does it than they jump off and kill themselves and the human population is ded
Parasites and hosts evolve with each other. When they jump species, things go haywire, often by outright killing hosts. So a horror movie with such a parasite suddenly appearing would more "realistically" be a plague rather than stable predator prey relationship.
I usually go on facebool
There already is a great story about the corticeps fungus (parasite) but not in movie but game format (the last of us). for people who rather watch movies, no problem. it can easily and entertainingly be watched on youtube by searching for "the last of us movie".
Having spent some time around truly crazy cat ladies, I'm absolutely convinced that Toxo does much more than "nudge" one's personality, or make one a bit more reckless or extroverted. This certainly doesn't happen to every cat person, but those predisposed can be swept to the very edge of functional sanity.
Correlation doesn't = causation. Plenty of non-cat people are also kooks. Just look at Qanons...
A benign parasite from ur cat that makes u more extroverted and outgoing? Thats an anxiety sufferers dream.
Good video, dense with info, and a sizable length
The first time I had learned about the life cycle of the Cordyceps fungi taking over the brain of its insect host and then making the doomed host's body produce more spores, my lizard brain thought, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!" while my higher brain functions thought, "Indeed? Tell me more!" I think it's high time the English language came up with a word that encapsulates revulsion and fascination at the same time.
Could you call it... Parasitic possession?
This was an absolutely fantastic video. I had been wondering for a while why some of these things didn't really affect us, now I know. Fascinating video. 👍👍👍
I hope that by studying these parasites we do learn more about mental illness in humans...
because now that I've watched this video I have a severe phobia of parasites :(
Lemon juice and vinegar are regularly used in foods, but often they steal some of the natural flavors. I find that pair acidic.
Boy do I have the procedure for you

Outdoing me again. You made my comment look very _basic_ by comparison.

Psychologists use "exposure therapy" to treat phobias. I'd rather not be exposed to parasites. Thank. you. very. much.
@@Master_Therion i was reffering to a good ol ice pick lobotomy but parasite exposure therapy works just fine
Anyone else notice a strange change in behavior where their significant other gets particularly amorous or has a need to cuddle just before coming down with a cold? I wouldn't be so sure that we are immune to parasitic mood alterations if not full blown mind control.
No futurama references? Damn, I'm feeling old already!
Plague inc 2 leaked
....but plague 1 has mind controlling parasites....
Plague Inc: but all disease forms are just variations of the Neurax Worm.
this comment aged well haha
iirc, xenomorphs from Alien drew inspiration from wasps in how they lay eggs in insects that eventually burst out of the host's stomach. in case you needed any more reason to hate wasps.
Ah yes, the predecessors of the zombie virus
Or fungus, if you like The Last of Us
But if you want a zombie virus than fungal influence, rabies can be a precursor potential.
the zombies in the last of us are actually infected with a type of cordyceps that evolved to infect humans
@@RhodianColossus Still a fungus! :P
CROOAAAAK!! CLICKCLICKCLICK CROOOAA!!!
That part about the Emerald Cockroach Wasp makes me think studying its (for lack of better term) mind control mechanisms might also lead to new insights into the physiology behind clinical depression.
Parasites are all cancers and linked to deep connections to most all illness
It trills me to think about the parasites that as humans we carry but know about. I mean, imagine if a group of people at prison are like that due a parasite
One popular use of a mind-control parasite/virus is in The Last of Us. I think it used the one that infects ants, and there are visible protrusions jutting out from the ant.
I suspect I was infected with toxoplasma about 20 years ago. But I'm actually happier this way.

i've been around so many cats as a child.. my grandparents had lots of cats and my parents had around 5 cats, too. i always thought i have a little bit of adhd & im sometimes a bit greedy especially when it comes to gambling.. maybe im infected with those cat parasites LOL
That's not what this protozoa does. It suppresses fear.
@@hamm3rextreme546 like honestly speaking, lifeforms can mutate, and develop. But in order for you to actually be able to see yourself and your behaviour and get to that conclusion, you have to be a pretty high level conciousness person. But yeah, very interesting and potentially scary point @yoshTG
@@hamm3rextreme546 it suppresses fear in mice. We don't know what it does to humans. I say it causes one of two reactions. Either it makes you want to protect cats or you have a negative reaction and come to loath them. I'm in the latter camp.
Holy crap, this is insanely interested AND terrifying. Great episode!
I always prefer these kind of information vids far easier to listen when there’s no soundtrack. Interesting thanks for the education
I had pink eye a year ago. When I wen to the optometrist, I learned that I also had an active toxo infection in my eye as well as pink eye. I was told that I will have the toxo infection for the rest of my life. I will go dormant, which it has, then can come back at any time. So I can look forward to being the crazy cat lady for real some tie soon.
Absolutely fascinating, I flipping love SciShow
All I can think of is, "Damn nature, you scary!"
Great video !
"Piloting it's giant ant suit" - best thing I've heard all week.
Very clever timing a placement of that "10 incredible facts" link at 3:15 right when you say "bite down"
This is one of the most horrifying videos from this channel yet. Zombie-bug for Halloween, anyone?
I would like to see a continuous discussion about Toxoplasmosis and the effects on the human brain. It symptoms and the possibility of individuals developing schizophrenia.
I have an urge to spend my nights on the roof... OMG! I'm controlled by a parasite!
Don't get devoured by building eating sky cows.
"It's not that the roach can't fight or run away, it's that it no longer wants to..."
Possibly the most chilling sentence I've heard all day. #1984
The roach is like."whatever"
"And totally not to take control of other people"
ROFL!!!!
They say Toxoplasmosis is one of the main reasons why people love cats o_o
I remember hearing about this on The Most Extreme on Animal Planet wayyy back in like 2002-2005
Incidentally, every other time I’ve heard of the hairworm that makes crickets drown themselves, it’s been called the Gordian worm; is that another name for it?
Also, if you’re wondering why toxoplasma can infect humans, I’ve heard that they likely adapted to attack a wide variety of mammals so all kinds of cats, from tabbies to tigers, could get in on spreading toxo, and some of these adaptations accidentally extended far enough to make them compatible with humans.
That doesn't explain why they live for several years in our brains. What are the surviving on?
Great episode!
The implications in this video are beyond unsettling to say the least..
Timely video - learned about the liver fluke in parasitology class today.
What's the parasite making kids do Fortnite dances?
Fortnite Parasite.
You make it sound like spending the night on the roof of my building every night isn't normal.
So glad to hear a parasitic zombie outbreak isn't very plausible.. For real
The roach wasp is the most horrifying thing I have ever heard
Roach gets led to the burrow and starts being eaten

That was the most horrifying video of the week.
This episode is way to spoopy.
I had cats who went outside, so I wondered if I could have gotten infected. When he said they might cause recklessness and extrovertion;"I thought I'm safe!"
So if I eat cat poop it could help my anxiety?
Try it and tell us how it went
"so if all your friends ate cat poop and jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?"
Do it on RUclips.
I'm sure you could get "Doctor" Ox to sign off on it.

Love you all. Thank you
@ 7:50 Given my long association with cats, I would be very surprised if I did not have cat parasites in me. At least one of those infects rats in a way that makes them want to be around cats.
I like how the thumbnail implies the cat was a Mind-controlling parasite.
I'm sure this study on human mind control is in full swing.
We are venom.
This was incredibly interesting.
That rug really tied the room together.
stefan chin is a love! "And, if you do paint a horror portrait, may I suggest myself as your inspiration? *Rar!*"
I have 18 cats and a feral colony of 7... I have toxo in a massive way.. I CANNOT look away from a kitten!!! (I think the cats know they have control tho) :D
Tina Lynn you have a parasite that makes kittens and cats irresistable to you that assure a steady supply of cats for the parasite to infest.
Or a mental problem.. either way, I'm buried in cats... :D
They are mostly outside. I live in out in the sticks. But I can't stand the smell of cat pee, so I don't let it get smelly in here. Now if I could just find a cure for shedding, we'd be ok. :D
Dog: They love me, feed me, play with me, and give me a home. They are gods!
Cat: They love me, feed me, play with me, and give me a home. I am a god!
I love the shirt. I grew up there and miss it a lot.
I've had cats my whole life and I'm still the most introverted mofo in the world.
This reminds me of the movie "The girl with all the gifts". Except instead of a parasite infection it's a fungal infection.
I hope mine controlling parasites never touch my neighbors cat.
UNLEASHING POTENTIAL - PSYCHOLOGY VIDEOS ...mind?
A majority of cats have it!
Leah Deacon No they don’t. Lmao
The Umbrella organisation will beg to differ.
