Actually the title is correct. But so are you. Just technically less so. The Blockheads were the backing band but the album it was from was credited as just Ian Drury. Oddly the single did include the Blockheads.
I live as far away as Chile and I was never able to have any kind of connection with Ian Dury but I feel that I love him like that thug uncle who always went out of the family television repertoire. Marvelous
I was 13 years old when New Boots and Panties was released. It was the first album I ever bought. It sounds as great today as it did 47 years ago. Where did all that time go?
I saw him live in Hemel Hempstead about 1978 I had got several records, but his live performance was tremendous, Blockheads brilliant,🥰. great memories
Just got a shit load of my need to get my shit together...Ian had suffered with polio, and still didn't let his dream of escape him...what a trooper!!!!
Love it... Ian is a total legend, his genius lyrics are easily on a par with that other great R&R wordsmith Chuck Berry... Ian also had a much better band!
“Young and old. . .” Great lyric. Ian had a way with words. He’s was especially good at capturing mixed emotions, ambivalence. And Ian and the Blockheads really had a feel for that early rock n’ roll
Back in the days before in-ear monitors, when rock stages were littered with massive speakers to enable musicians to hear what they were doing but which no doubt resulted in many of them developing tinnitus and other hearing problems. The hot lights have largely been replaced by low-energy modern equivalents, so stages are no longer the uncomfortably hot working environments they used to be.
Skinny white sailor The chances were slender The beauties were brief Shall I mourn your decline with some Thunderbird wine And a black handkerchief ? I miss your sad Virginia whisper I miss the voice that called my heart Sweet Gene Vincent Young … And old … And gone
j'adorais ça quand j'étais jeune , est ce un hommage ou une parodie ou les deux ? En plus Gene Vincent est mon all time Rock'n'Roller. Ha okay Ian est fan aussi
it seemed filmed for French TV. I think it's in Theatre de l Empire. a big old venue i never went to. Also Wilko played there with one of his bands but he played to a packed house. I think this sequence here is a rehearsal and it s all LIVE! which is a performance for the French (TV) because they did a lot of dubbed rubbish or what they call PLAYBACK, I feel Antoine De Caunes was possibly behind that programme. Cool Years.
What's with Davey Payne? He shuffles his feet a bit at the beginning of the song, then he just stands there and doesn't play , or move. On the other "live" version of this song, he is playing, even has a solo.
My old mum died yesterday in her sleep. I'm dedicating this tune to her. Thanks for everything you did to help mum. I miss you already. Godspeed.
Sorry for your loss
God bless
God Bless your mother. I know what it means to lose a Mother. Be strongth
Title should be Ian Dury and the Blockheads. The Blockheads: One of the best live bands you can find.
Yep
Actually the title is correct. But so are you. Just technically less so. The Blockheads were the backing band but the album it was from was credited as just Ian Drury.
Oddly the single did include the Blockheads.
@@tigerflicks5958 you are right about the album and the single cover. But this is a video of the legendary Ian Dury AND The Blockheads live.
Ian Dury didn't let anything hold him back great man band My son is named after his son Baxter the kid on the kBaP album I think I got that right
I think people know.
Imagine the shit that Ian went through because of polio and he came through smiling,God love you Ian.
Meanwhile some spoiled parents today refuse all vaccines for their kids
Frightening to think what we would’ve missed if he hadn’t fought it. Thank Ian
God speed, Ian.
DDT caused polio
IN MEMORY OF GENE VINCENT AND IAN BOTH GONE
Perhaps the best ever tribute to another artist in song.
Whilst Ian Dury was never musically or vocally trained, he does put in a brilliant singing performance in this live version.
I live as far away as Chile and I was never able to have any kind of connection with Ian Dury but I feel that I love him like that thug uncle who always went out of the family television repertoire. Marvelous
I love this man.
True talent never dies may the legacy last forever
My first ever album new boots and panties brilliant R I P ian

So many great memories of this album. My first experience of listening was mind blowing. No one like him. Ever. 🙏
One of the tightest bands on earth. Glorious.
I was 13 years old when New Boots and Panties was released. It was the first album I ever bought. It sounds as great today as it did 47 years ago. Where did all that time go?
He had such amazing band mates! Everyone of them top of their game.
I saw him live in Hemel Hempstead about 1978 I had got several records, but his live performance was tremendous, Blockheads brilliant,🥰. great memories

Love this song - and can't imagine liking another version
So handsome and that voice.
Love you Mr dury and the blockheads, thanks for the music
Ian Dury sweet Gene Vincent..... there’s one in every town! How true! Seriously it really is!
One of my favorites from Ian Dury of my favorite 50's rock and roller. I miss both Dury and Vincent.
How old do you think he was?
@@captainkenzie6873 Ian Dury was 36 at the time of this release which was coincidently the age of Gene Vincent when he died. Have a nice day!
Just got a shit load of my need to get my shit together...Ian had suffered with polio, and still didn't let his dream of escape him...what a trooper!!!!
Hope you’re still chasing it and didn’t let it fall by the wayside
Love it... Ian is a total legend, his genius lyrics are easily on a par with that other great R&R wordsmith Chuck Berry... Ian also had a much better band!
Yes, Berry doesn't get much credit for being the best lyricist of the 50s. Dury picked up the slack in the 70s.
I totally and completely agree .
The sax guy is just love'n it
Great to know our French friends also love Ian Dury !
u should hear what Ian did to our sleazy impresario numero uno when he was invited to dinner (it's all in a book I read, I'm not that intelligent)
Sweet Gene Vincent. There's one in every town. Catch Ian's cameo in the 1985 film Number One if you haven't seen it. Absolute classic.
He also had a part in Judge Dredd.
Love them. Just listened to them today, 5-15-24 here in Idaho!!
“Young and old. . .” Great lyric. Ian had a way with words. He’s was especially good at capturing mixed emotions, ambivalence.
And Ian and the Blockheads really had a feel for that early rock n’ roll
Real music 🎵 one legend singing about another legend … 👍
Raw and absolutely f’king brilliant !!.
To all the thumbs down! WTF is wrong with you!..peace! Out!
And the legend that is Norman Watt-Roy.
Pearly Kings and Queens are so prevalent in London these days. They have to dodge the typical London residents all singing "Consider Yourself".
love the pearly king jacket
Rippin’ rock-n-roll at its finest, and as such, a most-fitting tribute to the late, but immortal Virginia Ripper!..
Oh gosh that's so much fun!!!!!!!!
Wow 😯 Davey is really the real life human statue. 2:26
love the frozen brass player...
SAw G V. LIVE AT SUTTON Granada what a show Blue Caps rocked it out!!

Watch the Sax player. His performance is statuesque. He never moves. Epic! This is where the Viagra Boys got their blueprint.
Davey Payne
Yes.
Killer ending
