Actually the title is correct. But so are you. Just technically less so. The Blockheads were the backing band but the album it was from was credited as just Ian Drury. Oddly the single did include the Blockheads.
I can remember with clarity + utter JOY, grinning like idiots, the first time I listened to New Boots and Panties. In Adelaide Australia. My friend had sent to England for the uncut version + he unwrapped it with reverential care. It blew our minds! Love you Ian Dury. RIP 👏💜🙏
I saw him live in Hemel Hempstead about 1978 I had got several records, but his live performance was tremendous, Blockheads brilliant,🥰. great memories
Just got a shit load of my need to get my shit together...Ian had suffered with polio, and still didn't let his dream of escape him...what a trooper!!!!
Love it... Ian is a total legend, his genius lyrics are easily on a par with that other great R&R wordsmith Chuck Berry... Ian also had a much better band!
Skinny white sailor The chances were slender The beauties were brief Shall I mourn your decline with some Thunderbird wine And a black handkerchief ? I miss your sad Virginia whisper I miss the voice that called my heart Sweet Gene Vincent Young … And old … And gone
it seemed filmed for French TV. I think it's in Theatre de l Empire. a big old venue i never went to. Also Wilko played there with one of his bands but he played to a packed house. I think this sequence here is a rehearsal and it s all LIVE! which is a performance for the French (TV) because they did a lot of dubbed rubbish or what they call PLAYBACK, I feel Antoine De Caunes was possibly behind that programme. Cool Years.
j'adorais ça quand j'étais jeune , est ce un hommage ou une parodie ou les deux ? En plus Gene Vincent est mon all time Rock'n'Roller. Ha okay Ian est fan aussi
What's with Davey Payne? He shuffles his feet a bit at the beginning of the song, then he just stands there and doesn't play , or move. On the other "live" version of this song, he is playing, even has a solo.
Title should be Ian Dury and the Blockheads. The Blockheads: One of the best live bands you can find.
Yep

@@tigerflicks5958 you are right about the album and the single cover. But this is a video of the legendary Ian Dury AND The Blockheads live.
Ian Dury didn't let anything hold him back great man band My son is named after his son Baxter the kid on the kBaP album I think I got that right
I think people know.
My old mum died yesterday in her sleep. I'm dedicating this tune to her. Thanks for everything you did to help mum. I miss you already. Godspeed.
Sorry for your loss
Imagine the shit that Ian went through because of polio and he came through smiling,God love you Ian.
Meanwhile some spoiled parents today refuse all vaccines for their kids
Frightening to think what we would’ve missed if he hadn’t fought it. Thank Ian
God speed, Ian.
DDT caused polio
He had such amazing band mates! Everyone of them top of their game.

Great album.

And the legend that is Norman Watt-Roy.
I love this man.
IN MEMORY OF GENE VINCENT AND IAN BOTH GONE
One of the tightest bands on earth. Glorious.
I saw him live in Hemel Hempstead about 1978 I had got several records, but his live performance was tremendous, Blockheads brilliant,🥰. great memories
Ah yes…I was there for that gig!
The Pavilion?
❤
Perhaps the best ever tribute to another artist in song.
Tight as a drum, love Davey Payne’s statue impression

Love you Mr dury and the blockheads, thanks for the music
So handsome and that voice.
I've watched and listened to Ian Dury a lot more this month and it sounds just as good as always, even better.
Revisiting my youth. Love the honesty of we're the lyrics came from in the album sheets. Mint
Great to know our French friends also love Ian Dury !
u should hear what Ian did to our sleazy impresario numero uno when he was invited to dinner (it's all in a book I read, I'm not that intelligent)
Both artists lived through physical impediments and made their mark on music
this man had more class than any body i have ever seen miss him with al my heart lots of love bro
Ian Dury sweet Gene Vincent..... there’s one in every town! How true! Seriously it really is!
Love this song - and can't imagine liking another version

Just got a shit load of my need to get my shit together...Ian had suffered with polio, and still didn't let his dream of escape him...what a trooper!!!!
Hope you’re still chasing it and didn’t let it fall by the wayside
The sax guy is just love'n it
One of my favorites from Ian Dury of my favorite 50's rock and roller. I miss both Dury and Vincent.
How old do you think he was?
@@captainkenzie6873 Ian Dury was 36 at the time of this release which was coincidently the age of Gene Vincent when he died. Have a nice day!
Sweet Gene Vincent. There's one in every town. Catch Ian's cameo in the 1985 film Number One if you haven't seen it. Absolute classic.
He also had a part in Judge Dredd.
Real music 🎵 one legend singing about another legend … 👍
Oh gosh that's so much fun!!!!!!!!
Love it... Ian is a total legend, his genius lyrics are easily on a par with that other great R&R wordsmith Chuck Berry... Ian also had a much better band!
Yes, Berry doesn't get much credit for being the best lyricist of the 50s. Dury picked up the slack in the 70s.
I totally and completely agree .
love the frozen brass player...
He was such a nice bloke from Harrow Weld
SAw G V. LIVE AT SUTTON Granada what a show Blue Caps rocked it out!!

Wow 😯 Davey is really the real life human statue. 2:26
Beautiful
Legend 👏 singing about his Hero Gene Vincent class 👏✊👊
Pearly Kings and Queens are so prevalent in London these days. They have to dodge the typical London residents all singing "Consider Yourself".
To all the thumbs down! WTF is wrong with you!..peace! Out!
Skinny white sailor
The chances were slender
The beauties were brief
Shall I mourn your decline with some Thunderbird wine

I miss your sad Virginia whisper
I miss the voice that called my heart

Sweet gene vincent lyrics
Chairman of Blockheads.
❤️

C'est un hommage, Ian Dury était un grand fan de Gene !!!

He's singing about mr rockabilly the man who killed
Is singing about Gene Vincent the man who killed Eddie Cochran😢
Watch the Sax player. His performance is statuesque. He never moves. Epic! This is where the Viagra Boys got their blueprint.
Davey Payne
Ashtray eyes...
I got the polio and I also sing
Here comes Duck Tailed Danny dragging Uncanny Annie, she's the one with the flying feet.
A stunning lyric! Sheer genius. x
Killin me ❤not love to Ian
Is there even such a thing as a bad song from the blockheads?
nope - and one of the best bands I ever saw live, even better than the attractions
What's with Davey Payne? He shuffles his feet a bit at the beginning of the song, then he just stands there and doesn't play , or move.

Bass layer rocks ,is he " davey davis " ? i had the record " new boots and panties " , LP really long time ago , like1978 ?/ is that right ?
no one ever comments on my posts - loser of the highest degree
Ian..... got any other songs

This should have been on The Rocky Horror Picture Show 😉
Can this be posted in just English?
