Not only is this the best live version of "Sweet Gene Vincent", but the guitar playing Wilko Johnson delivers here is what makes it even more better! XD
Absolutely brilliant! What a legend Ian is... New Boots one of the greatest albums of all time, as well as being hilariously funny. Still miss him, a total original definitely gone way too soon.
the jam, the clash, talking heads, wilco and ian dury & the the blockheads, two tone, the best reggae coming out from jamaica courtesy of the black ark and channel one, the emergence of disco, electro, hip hop and house music in the states ... to have been growing up in the late '70s and '80s was a blessing. even dire straits weren't half-bad back in those days ...
Sorry for my english. i come from Spain, but I agree. The music and groups from 1977-1982 (more or less...well maybe 1983, just because of the The Smiths) wre one of the most exciting, funny, and good quality of the history of rock.Well, and because I was 18-23 at the time.
Yeah and there an altterative post pusk/new wave they are one offs irish and in anyway, im sure as they wouldn't want to sound ever so slighy ripping off absent syd barret Pink Floyd and lets face it everyone evens fans if honesty liars its fxxing ripped. Off. They are The Sultans of ping!!. Tell me to piss of now. Was in part a twat the.Even Ping is derivative... ⛔
Apparently Ian and company played the stardust not long before all them poor innocent souls perished in that awful fire. RIP to everyone that didn’t make it home that terrible night and same to Ian and Wilko. Talent like this will never be back. When there gone they are gone. 🙏🏾
This is a reminder of how important The Old Grey Whistle Test was . Just look at how many classic performances were captured by it. And Ian Dury and Dr Feelgood, it would be worth it just for that.
Two Greats who ripped the world apart - Ian Dury - a True Rock n Roll Great - and Wilco "Massive Asset" to Rock n Roll Johnson- MAD as a box of frogs - still is, but possibly not for much longer. A legend - my leg end, your leg end - - we love him and always will ------- Wilco xxx
I'm so pissed off that I have just found this. What an awesome track. My two classics of all time Ian & Wilko. Jonoss if you are still on line you are a sound person . Thank, thanks, thanks so much
Paul Gibbs Great news yes but a good/bad news situation given his misdiagnosis which surely would have been much more easily operable back when he thought he was going to die. Good luck Wilko, your Solid Senders album still sits in the attic at my parents' house with about 350 other albums I haven't heard in decades.
Dead man walking! Almost 2 deaddies walking (Wilko Johnson/John Wilkinson was this:___close to die ½ years ago, refused chemo for his Big C...will watch Solid Senders tonight in Malmö, Sweden, though. First time in 27 years... Was lucky enough to catch Ia Dury sometime in the 9s, @ www.roskilde-festival.dk, amazing! His debut is still up their, among the classics from a simpler era when all you needed was a guitar, an amplifier, a driver, some milk & alcohol and someone to plug it all in and pull it together...
Two of my favourites together on one song; Wilko from Dr Feelgood and Ian Dury on probably my favourite blockheads track, certainly from new boots and panties anyway! I love Feelgood and Dury, two of the most underrated bands in the UK. New boots and panties made my eyes bulge when i first heard it and this was my favourite track with Plaistow Patricia.
Hey Wilko, thanx for the music and the madness. Hope you make it upto Glasgow if your farewell tour goes ahead. Any time i've met you, the last being November you've been a genuinely nice geezer. Hope to shake your hand one last time. Your a TRUE LEGEND!!
First class by Ian a legendary song for Ian's singing Legend God 🙏 Gene Vincent who was appreciated by the UK but not in the USA . I am a Teddy Boy and Gene Vincent will and always will be a True Rock n Roll 📻 legend for the Teddy boy's 👏 . Gene & Ian RIP
Old Grey Whistle Test - the High Point of BBC Music production. This was my religion until it featured fucking "Soft Cell" with a reel-to-reel tape player onstage. The BBC Queers had taken over. Never watched again. This was the show that featured John Otway and Wild Willie Barrett, Bob Marley, Little Feat, Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Dire Straits and too many more legends to mention. This was as good as it ever got!
Me and my mate Irish john were walking through Camden Market and we saw Marc Almond he wandered over and decked him for ruining his favourite song - True
Jim Adlington Jim, how about a few well chosen words rather than assaulting a man. I mean, I’m in your camp music-wise but unprovoked violence? Rule of law, tolerance, those kinds of things we do in the West.
@AZappaFan Im a big Zappa freak as well, what a body of work in a life cut short,he should have won the presidency what a cool world that would have been. so many great albums, his music kept you waiting on the next album couple of my favs "we're only in it for the money, joes garage ,ship arriving ...... could go on m8 but you probably know them all to and when you tell people no drugs they just dont believe u.
Thanks Eric. I still feel the hair stand up on the back of my neck when this is played! The x factor & bgt generation dont realise what they have been deprived of and what they are being force fed. Wilko and Norman are still strutting their stuff on the gig circuit and always worth seeing to marvel at their musianship
OGWT really deserve credit here also, the thinking man's alternative to TOTP. It's given us lots of great stuff like this. Bring it on back. @WhisperingBob (twitter)

Ian Drury, Legend, no one like him, although one of his heroes was gene Vincent, another energetic singer from the 50's with a handicap.
