- Our first dance at our wedding :) Portrait version!
When Derek first watched Howl’s Moving Castle he was amazed with the scene of Howl and Sophie waltzing in the air since it was so magical. As huge Studio Ghibli fans and to further our enchanted forest/magical theme, it was without hesitation that we would choose “Merry Go Round” as our first dance.
We decided to use the live version of the song which has a lot of tempo changes, so we decided to incorporate both the slow waltz and Viennese waltz.
We started our first dance at the beginning of the reception to kick off the magical mood. We hope you love it as much as we did. For us it truly was a special moment to remember forever.
We never practiced with the dress before, but wow, magic really happened on that day!
Fun facts: We trained from Dec 2017-Sept 2019 for this first dance. Derek had zero dance experience prior to this, but we as a team can accomplish anything we set our mind to.

I really recommend it! Learning a ballroom dance with your partner is also a wonderful experience. It's hard but well worth it!

Hahaha too funny! Some people don't like choreographed dances. We wanted to do something special. We surprised everyone, our guests had no idea!

This hit so hard, it was so enchanting, and hit my childhood feels, with me always wanting to ballroom dance to this song.
But i'm amazed he didn't step on her dress at all, I know if i had to dress in a long ball gown like that i'd step on my own dress.
Thank you that was so touching. It really felt like a magical moment. We weren't stressed and just was loving the moment! We did practice with a practice crinoline skirt so he knew how to dance with me in a gown.
Howl's Moving Castle has been my favorite movie ever since I was a little girl, I'm 19 now and it's still so romantic and beautiful everytime I watch it. Can't wait to do this someday 😭

I've been watching a lot of these Merry Go Round of Life wedding first dances and y'all two's dance is the BEST I've seen. most people focus too much on the choreography and are too stiff but y'all two are both just happy and smiling the entire time and the movements are so smooth and graceful and natural. I love that we can see how much effort y'all have put into this choreography yet are still having fun and enjoying yourselves instead of performing just for the sole purpose of performing.
