  • Do drone pilots actually get in trouble and what is the chance that you could get in trouble with the FAA? What is the FAA's rate of enforcements?
Discover the surprising truth about drone pilots and FAA enforcement! In this eye-opening video, we reveal that from 2012 to 2020, the FAA issued just 384 enforcements against drone pilots. Top infractions included not having Part 107 certification, failing to register drones, and flying in Class B airspace. The data speaks for itself, making a compelling case that drone pilots are statistically the safest group of aviators in history. Watch now to learn more about these fascinating statistics and what they mean for the drone community! 🚁✈️ #DroneSafety #FAAEnforcement #AviationStatistics

Why are you calculating enforcement rate relative to the total number of registered drones? It seems like you are actually calculating an incident rate.
Shouldn't enforcement rate should be calculated with with the number of infractions / enforcements.
On the legal side of things it should be noted that FAA enforcement actions are civil and not criminal. There are some differences in our rights and responsibilities in civil vs criminal proceedings. I'm not a lawyer and I would love to know more about dealing with the FAA and police acting on behalf of the FAA vs dealing with the police in a normal criminal situation. Can we be detained w/o RAS of a crime? Do we have the right to remain silent and can it be used against us? The questions go on and on...
Perhaps you could do a video with Rupprecht?
    Thanks!

That's a great idea to do a video with him. We did mention civil and not criminal by notating the FAA is not a law enforcement agency. I like the idea of your calculation, but do you mind clarifying how you would actually run the numbers?

Calculating enforcement rate might be tricky. I haven't given it a lot of thought but I guess you would have to come up with an estimate or a constant for the number of infractions and then divide that by the number of enforcements to get a percentage. There might be better ways to do it but I'm not sure at the moment. Maybe Siri or chat GPT would know the answer???
I'm trying to think of other situations where something similar occurs and how it's dealt with. I would imagine that climate scientist or geologist calculate the rate of absorption/runoff of rain water and snowfall, but how do they really know how much it rained or snowed? Do they use an average figure, an estimate or constant? There must be a way to do it...
Getting back to drones maybe you could come up with an estimate of violations by poling RPIC's anonymously.
How do we calculate the rate of enforcement on illegal border crossers when we don't really know how many there are? I guess we just use an estimate, right?
Maybe you would have better luck consulting with a statistician instead of me, Joe schmo drone guy LOL
Thanks for the interesting and informative podcasts and videos.

Hi Paul, I have been flying RC Airplanes since 1971, and building and flying quads since 2013. I have never had a problem with flying until the FAA releases the new laws. Until the FAA releases the RISK ASSESSMENT file showing the reason why I have to register for flying my toy drones. I just laugh at the law you can't fly at a airport ? My AMA Field is the disused runway next to the open runway at the local airport. Now we have no place to fly at. That's why I have decided to not register and stay under the 250gm weight regulation. Thanks again for the video and information about this topic

im lost on this unmanned vehicle term they use in the rules, in my drone i have a live stream from my drones camera.. my live stream doesn't count as me being 'present' in my drone..
so lets say in court.. the judge has to be present in a trial. so nowadays they live stream judges, defendants etc. an that fulfils their meaning of being present in court. so me live streaming from my drone does not count as me being present in the drone..
according to the FAA "An unmanned aircraft system is an unmanned aircraft and the equipment necessary for the safe and efficient operation of that aircraft. An unmanned aircraft is a component of a UAS. It is defined by statute as an aircraft that is operated without the possibility of direct human intervention from within or on the aircraft (Public Law 112-95, Section 331(8))."
yes i know this is silly word play, but these rules are nonsense. example being, pilots of other larger much more heavier an dangerous vehicles that fly and can go alot higher do not require transponders , for instance hot air balloolns.

Flying as a hobbyist, Fly at or below 400' in controlled airspace (Class B, C, D, and E) only with prior authorization by using LAANC. During the last few training you didn't actually need a 107 to get an authorization. Oddly.

Recertification is totally free, online only, and you cant fail. Upon completion the only score you can get is 100% correct. How hard than that be; the FAA is only concerned with safety; no reason for a Part 107 pilot not to re-certify.

I hardly ever run into controlled airspace but today I run into a situation, got into aloft through b4 ufly, put in …I needed to fly at less than 100’ and entered my phone number, then aloft sent me a code and I input it, is that all I needed to do to fly? There was a Marine Reserve Forces Base 1.6 miles that had me concerned?
I would love to post a picture of my screen but not sure I can do that here? Can I send to drone U email
    ?

We prefer not to use Aloft or B4uFly, read where your data goes... Same with open sky...That said we use a variety of different applications to get real time data on restrictions for flying. We use UA Sidekick ($5 a month, but your data isn't sold to google then to local governments to potentially charge you for flying a drone. ie. Minnesota) We also use MyRadar and pay for the aviation layers as it is the most up to date on TFR's notams... etc. Between the two apps, if i had your location I could tell you what to worry about.

"Dont fly anywhere that can be nefarious" LMAO I got the police called on me today. Was photographing 3 buildings in a plaza as the property owner wants to sell them. Part of the package included roof height pictures. Well lucky me, one of the business in the plaza was a bank. And they panicked. And the police showed up.

ok, You talk about enforcement actions for not having your 107, and say what we can learn from this is have your 107. Not clear where this is coming from. Is this due to enforcement as a result of posting a drone video to YT or where a commercial interest was clearly being served? Or is this because you are offering/selling part 107 courses etc?

    • @DroneU
      @DroneU  5 месяцев назад

@@DroneU Sorry, I phrased that badly. When I said 'your 107', I really didn't mean you specifically. As I understood what you were saying, perhaps incorrectly, it was your advice to others to get your 107 to avoid enforcement actions. I was wanting to know why is your advice to get a 107 to avoid enforcement actions?

After 47 years of flying RC Airplanes and drones since 2013 I have yet to see how a sticker on my aircraft and now a broadcast module is going to make me safer flying on 60 acres of my own land. The idiots that thought this whole process up are just that..IDIOTS! While Paramotors don't require any of the same requirements we do, just makes it clear why they came after our hobby! So glad I have my own runway and plenty of space away from any noisy neighbors worried about me flying anything.

The FAA's stance is basically this:
    Drones are aircraft.
    Aircraft are inherently dangerous.
    Therefore, drones are inherently dangerous.
It is up to the community to prove them wrong. This report hopefully will get their attention.
