    Hello TGMT, I'm a great fan of your videos. When a histogram question asks for an ESTIMATE of the median, should we ALWAYS follow the correct method by adding 1 to the frequency and dividing by 2? I've watched other GCSE maths videos covering histograms and some just go ahead and do a simple division (n/2) to find the median and 1/4 of n and 3/4 of n (instead of n+1) to find the lower and upper quartiles. Their argument is that the use of the word 'estimate' allows candidates to skip the formal approach....Would appreciate your comments. Certainly for some (maybe not all) exam boards, either approach appears to score the same marks.

    Lots of people are saying the total is 81 and when you add 1 its 82 however when you are estimating the mean you don't add one. Hence even if he got the total wrong of 80 instead of 81 he would still get the same answer since he added the extra one. I could be totally wrong here. Just doubled check on a secondary source and yeah if its an estimate you definitely don't add 1 please do not make this mistake.

      for the question at 12:10 :
      - Find the upper quartile by adding 1 to the total frequency, dividing it by 4, then multiplying it by 3 = 18
      - If we go 18 in => we reach the 25 and 30 bound section as (4+4+6+5 = 19)
      - The frequency for 25 and 30 is 5, when we reach it (4+4+6 = 14) we're at 14
      - So we only go 4 more instead of using the full 5
      - So this is 4/5 in aka 80%/0.8
      - We multiply the difference of 25 and 30 (30-25=5) which is 5 by 0.8 which equals 4
      - 25+4= 29 is the estimate for the upper quartile

    to find an estimate for the upper quartile,
    you divide the value by 4
    then times it by 3
    it would look like n+1/4 X 3
    then follow the rest of the steps...
