Entire education system through the West from kindergarten to universities has been an ideological machine for years. I’m surprised it could be a news for anyone
Thank you for the important talk… too bad it was cut short!! U of A is getting rid of DEI and it would be a positive move if other Canadian universities followed!!
Actually, the U of A is changing the name of their DEI policies and processes. There is no indication they are ditching them. I mean, ditching DEI would be like the Catholic church ditching the ten commandments.
I'm not convinced re U of A. I read the piece in the Edmonton Journal. Have a look at the U of A doctrine-it still references intersectionality etc., which is not reassuring. Time will tell.
The University of Alberta made an announcement about withdrawing DEI policies, but wasn’t forcing any changes on faculties and roles reliant on Canada Research Chair funding. So, I suppose it’s a positive move, but is only a very small move at this point.
A friend recently started a business course at Concordia and immediately came back spouting the most ridiculously Marxist conceits about how businesses operate. She's not the sharpest, so she actually hadn't even realized she was being indoctrinated. One claim she made was that ALL business exploit employees by not sharing their profits equally. Aside from this notion being extremely Marxist, it isn't remotely true. I pointed out in my business, as a sole trader, I enjoy all of the fruits of my labors. It also fails to acknowledge that a huge number of people don't want to run a business, and actually PREFER to work for a large organization and feel they are not at all exploited. When informed what she was advocating for was the very form of Communism that cost millions of lives and ruined many more, she doubled down with the whole "it will be done properly this time" line. Of course it will. The millions of Eastern Europeans who decry the evils of it are simply wrong about their experiences. In reality, the great and glorious emancipation of the shackled classes will be led by people too stupid to realize they are being indoctrinated in failed philosophies.
Thank you for this testimony. I consider myself a liberal but where we are now in the universities is very troubling. I recently completed a university degree in my senior years. Quite a different experience from previous decades in the academic setting.
This is nothing new !!! I graduated back in 1986 with a Bachelors in Econ from a very reputable canadian university. I had to hide my core beliefs and personal views just to defend my gpa. The department was completely devoid of divergent opinion. It was totally infected with marxian thought and a leftist analytical framework. I had a more than a decent average but when came time to push forward in academia. It was an easy choice to refuse the proposals.
The universities are almost too far gone. I don't think there savable. The work required to bring them back to bastions of freedom of thought and masters of critical thinking as they were originally intended to be is just to great.
Liberals feel more justified in discriminating across racial and ideological lines in hiring and promotions. Conservatives do not. That can set off a long term chain reaction
it was once considered wise to separate religion from politics. Unsurprisingly it was a liberal, Pierre Elliott Trudeau who in 1982 put the lid on Judeo-Christian ethos. Look at Canada today. Was it really so wise ? We will find out soon enough.
The universities for decades have skewed the structure of learning for emphasis of grades for university promotion. They could care less about the competency of education outcome. They are concerned only about the elevated cost for foreign students to the point of ignoring local students. They are also intent on creating their own authority. They should not be a component of economy. I would assume with A.I. , universities will become redundant and I consider that a good thing.

@ABC-yt1nq She works for the government of Canada, so she already has a criminally fat bank account. I stand by my demand, she deserves to be punished, that is how the people see justice done, through retribution.
If the Universities are so concerned with DEI they will have to change their hiring policy to accept more Moderate or right leaning professors regardless of their ability. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. DEI is suppose to make the hiring process more in line with outcome and that outcome is that the work force should be represented equally. Having 90% of professors identify as left leaning means the the diversity equity and inclusion in not being implemented in Canadian Universities. The outcome of the education process is being effected negatively for the students. A student who wishes to be involved in micro biology would like to be educated in that subject rather than be immersed in some form of socialist culture. The Universities have let the country down and it shows in the quality of students leaving with a degree.
I hear what you're saying... but what happened to Equality =/= Equity? Haven't conservatives constantly told women that poor representation in a field is not due to discrimination, but due to not all groups sharing the same interests? Perhaps conservatives simply don't want to work at universities the same way that perhaps women simply don't want to be engineers. The base argument we always hear is "Equality isn't Equity, unequal representation is not due to discrimination because there are no laws barring them from entry. Therefore, take accountability and accept that not all demographics will accel in the same fields, let alone choose the same fields!". You can't eat you cake and have it too. Show me one law that bars profs that have conservative beliefs from being hired, or employed. By all the rhetoric we've heard, if there isn't one, then discrimination "doesn't exist" regardless of people's lived experiences and reports. You need to choose, you can't have both.
I am also from Europe and i am afraid it's these same in our institutions this is leading us downhill. I did not fail to notice that its a woman interupting, sorry to say but more women in certain positions is not helping, but rather the contrary.
Thank you MacDonald Laurier Institute. Great work here. Identity politics is crushing the Western world.
In part
Entire education system through the West from kindergarten to universities has been an ideological machine for years. I’m surprised it could be a news for anyone
you are crazy. how much koolaid did you drink? all my buddies are diverse and right wing. you sound like a fool.
Exactly!! It’s time to end this travesty and stop brainwashing our children!!! NOW!!!
It took a qualified person named Dummitt to explain the truth of how universities have been trying to dumb it down. Well done sir!
LOL! Well played you!
How refreshing. Sanity is squeaking back into our lives by people such as you. Thank you.
Couldnt agree more. Ive seen this over the past 30yrs go unchallenged. They will ignore this wise man
Thank you for the important talk… too bad it was cut short!! U of A is getting rid of DEI and it would be a positive move if other Canadian universities followed!!
Don't you mean U of C? Didn't hear anything out of Edmonton, just Calgary.
Actually, the U of A is changing the name of their DEI policies and processes. There is no indication they are ditching them. I mean, ditching DEI would be like the Catholic church ditching the ten commandments.

I feel like government should make funding of universities conditional on a diversity of values , and views.
The University of Alberta made an announcement about withdrawing DEI policies, but wasn’t forcing any changes on faculties and roles reliant on Canada Research Chair funding. So, I suppose it’s a positive move, but is only a very small move at this point.

Skocking...10 years ago.
Well said!
Who knew, EVERYBODY ! This is because the people were denied to lead the government . U.S. too. 🇺🇸
This all ends up making our nation weak . As we can see today. Bless this man for speaking truth to the vipers .
Make him minister of education. Only fund fair universities. F the rest. They're destroying Canada.
Fancy cutting short an interesting explanation for time constraints. Sad.
Agreed. If it takes 6 minutes to get your point across you should be given 6 minutes, not cut off at 5.
This is to show that the more you are in School, the more politically brainwashed you get.
Very insightful!

Like the Canadian government is going to put a stop to this racist nonsense. Outside of Alberta or, maybe, Saskatchewan, not a chance.
New sub, thanks for sharing

I’d like to know who listening to this, and commenting, have worked in post-secondary education across/in Canada??

As soon as he said the trigger words she cut him off.
The woman who did that should never hold a job again.
Why such a hateful comment? She should NEVER work again? It's a committee with timed slots for speakers, nothing more.
@ABC-yt1nq
It is not "hateful" to demand accountability,it is this weird concept called justice.
@@danryan4001 =- You're not calling for accountability. You said she should never work again. NEVER. That is insanely hateful.

Wow! Canada is doomed, people. Greetings from Europe, not that sinked (for the time being)
I am also from Europe and i am afraid it's these same in our institutions this is leading us downhill. I did not fail to notice that its a woman interupting, sorry to say but more women in certain positions is not helping, but rather the contrary.
UK is a prime example of where things are headed there too. Hopefully other Euro nations are stronger.
@ycatthebrave hopefully Things can be turned around on time before too many children/kids are brainwashed.
All fallout from the current government
That's because the vast majority of profs grew up in upper middle class families. Find those who grew up poor.
And it’s getting more extreme as grad students are often very far left, woke, progressive, bow to DEI, and disciples of critical race theory.
Peer review became group think
Trying to be intellectual woke communists to be cool, no original thought and smugly frowning on any right wing philosophies.
I am.pretty sure everyone is well aware of Canadian universities and the scandels involving them. Diploma mills.
