I think they just need to jazz up the full arts more. The ones from gen 5/6 were so much cooler looking, but still had CG art, but the posing and backgrounds were more dynamic. Full arts have something SARs don’t: unique textured patterns. And I love that about them. I just wish the posing and backgrounds were a little more unique looking. They could do the same for gold cards. Give gold cards maybe a new pose for the Pokémon, maybe a hand drawn non-CG style artwork of the Pokemon and that can give them an extra appeal. Save SAR/SIRs as the complete package of unique art, but the others can offer other things.

For the gold cards I think they should do new art. Maybe make them the Connect with each other in art? Or make them alt art but not a scene like the real alt art. Or make the border gold. Or make it the textured card(although I know that that creates issues with weighting packs). They could unify them in some way. For a spooky pack, make them all in costumes. Maybe make them more of a pack cosplay card. Gold often looks rough in a card too. They should make gold something else. Like an ultra rare rainbow like effect(like when they recolored them to be rainbows) but make the mon look similar to the carbonite star wars thing with gold and a gold texture.
The textless cards in MTG were nice. I remember at Grand Prix Memphis back in the early 2000s when I first seen the textless Lightning bolt, it was crazy. Had to get a playset but it would be insane in Pokemon.
That would be incredible. Also with pokemon being a much more collected over played tcg, it makes sense to have some widely loved full art that have no text. That is an amazing idea!

Excellent episode! Loved that it was over an hour long! I understand why you sometimes do shorter episodes, but I think the longer ones are better. I know some news stories are simple, but your commentary on the stories and thoughts that go slightly beyond are where it is at. Full arts… most are ugh (especially Orthworm), but every now and then there is a gem. For me, the gems usually involve beloved Pokemon, non-derpy Pokemon art, some playability (not required, but ideal), and a really good background / color scheme. For the latter, so many are just OK. Like, are they trying to be average?
Okay so me and my buddy have this talk all the time on the topic of rainbow rares and gold cards. You both are right. Yes they are not the highest in value but they do push the sets. For collectors as myself and my buddy, we only pay attention to “playable” cards so we can flip them on ebay. We collect gold and rainbow rare. As well as alts and full arts, anything that is appealing to my eye, and doesnt have to be all value. For instance i love all the og celebration cards. I know dark gyarados is only a $2 card, but do i buy one everytime i see one because i love that card? Yes! Not saying they are gonna go up crazy, which they will go up but i dont think like alt arts. But i do love certain cards that are cheap and expensive, so point being i think sometimes that also affects the prices. Which is why i say your both right and why the precise reason cant really be pin pointed, because those cards have alot of variables holding the price as opposed to something like gengar vmax which we know why its expensive and holds its value
Staryu and Starmie (and Pyroar too)! I think it’d be cool to get rid of the full art/gold cards and instead do IR for the regular cards, SIR for ex cards, and then maybe like a shiny SIR of the Pokémon for a HR variant
Also the oversexualizing under aged characters is gross too. They need to stop or be a teen game. We are in the pedo middle ground which is not okay...
Can't wait to see how the world promo turns out, Mew is my favourite Pokemon after all so I may need to get a copy! Pokemon has a strange history of products. I for one think ETBs are outdated, a booster bundle with a promo would be the best way forward. The Super Premium product is shit. Even the figure looks shit. The Celebrations Pikachu figure was amazingly crafted, give me more figures of that quality. My highlighted cards from Shrouded Fable are Horsea IR and Fezandipiti EX SIR. Stellar Crown has too many to count but if I go by Pokemon, Bulbasaur, Ledian and Squirtle IR, Hydrapple EX SIR and Briar FA are my favourites! As for the full art conversation, I got a few thoughts here as well (siding with Basil here). They serve no good purpose, same as gold cards. Booster Box seeds are mostly to blame with this. A gold card when pulled from a booster box means it took the spot of a special illustration rare (which is in every way the more desired and interesting card). A full art Pokemon is just an inferior version of it's double rare counterpart in almost every possible way and again, takes up an otherwise more desired pull (illustration rare). In an ideal world, a booster box would provide 2 special illustration rares, 4 illustration rares and 6 double rares. That would mean 1/3 of the booster box would contain something of value to everyone and a case would possibly pull out an entire master set. To clarify, RR sucked because it removed the detail of the original card. I pulled 3 Selena FA RR before pulling the original FA from Silver Tempest and boy was that a sad experience. There are examples of great gold cards such as the older secret rares such as Gyarados and Alakazam or the more recent examples of Giratina from Crown Zenith. But for the most part, they suck. Anything that takes the original design and makes it lesser is a poor choice. Full art Pokemon don't make this mistake, since they are their own thing; however, they still take a vital spot in the booster box seed and thus I would be happier to see them vanish. Can't wait to see how this UPC turns out. Celebrations was good, Charizard was amazing, and 151 was pretty good. Cracked holofoil energy seem a little underwhelming but curious as to what the promo cards will be! However, like previous UPC, they say November, they actually mean March, 2027. Pyroar! (Staryu, Starmie, Horsea, Squirtle, Lapras).
4 regular and 2 special sets per year is just too much!!! I know it causes some tough financial decisions for me, and I'm sure for others as well. Staryu...Starme...Pyroar...etc.!!!

Justin, they do that art card thing in Lorcana. Its 1/4 like a v union but bot playable.
Closest thing I saw to what I was talking about in Lorcana was the oversized Ursula - Ruler of Lorcana card.
