  • A new study shows how a plant-based diet rich in soy reduces moderate-to-severe hot flashes by 84%, from nearly five per day to fewer than one per day-without drugs. Neal Barnard, MD, and his team conducted the study, which was published by the North American Menopause Society in the journal Menopause. Dr. Barnard joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to discuss the findings.

My Chiropractor told me, “When you go through menopause, take Vitamin E and you won’t have any hot flashes”. “ Take one, if that doesn’t work , take two and if that doesn’t work, take 3”.” When menopause hit me, I took Vitamin E and NEVER had any hot flashes. I also learned Muscle testing (Cntact Reflex Analysis) which I used to regulate the amount. A bonus, with the Vitamin E, was that it helped with my prolapsed uterus (six pregnancies didn’t help)! I was amazed and beyond happy. After menopause, I take Vitamin E and it pulls that Uterus right up! I still have all my organs as a pensioner- no operations required. So grateful for that simple ‘Vitamin E! A lot of those foods they are talking about in this video have Vitamin E in them. God bless ladies, wishing you the best in your quest. I know for some ladies it can be real bad. My friend said that she felt like killing herself-that is pretty bad! Vit. E, a simple answer!

I had severe menopausal symptoms or perimenopausal symptoms, profuse, sweating, high anxiety, hot flashes that would sometimes last an hour night sweats so bad I seriously just wanted to off myself. I was so tired of it. I started the carnivore diet for inflammation of my lower back really and I noticed very quickly within a couple of weeks. I was no longer suffering any of those menopausal symptoms. In fact, carnivore took 98% of my health issues away within the first three months I know I still have a hernia, but you know what it doesn’t hurt so I don’t have to do anything about it, also have a rotator cuff tear, but it doesn’t hurt anymore. my arthritis is gone. My dry eye is gone. Carnivore is a lifesaver.

I eat a WFPB vegan diet and eat tofu fairly often. I learned on my own awhile ago that if I don't have tofu for a few days, I will have hot flashes or night sweats. As long as I eat it regularly I am symptom free. I have been telling my friends about this and they don't seem to to believe it...well, now I can show them this study!

Oh my goodness! When I first went WFPB 2 months ago, I was eating tofu/tempeh regularly (a couple of times a week at least), eating a lot of raw greens/veggies, and my hot flashes went away almost immediately. I never get the sweats - it's more like standing too close to the fire and dry heat under my skin. This month, hot flashes are back - I'm eating zero soy-based products! Amazing. I never thought of this till your message. I better get back to my tofu/tempeh.

I have been a low fat vegan for several years and was struggling with hot flashes. I tried low dose antidepressants on the advice of my gynecologist and that helped a little but… not enough. I started adding 1/2 cup of soybeans to my daily diet about 5 weeks ago and can say that the hot flashes have reduced a lot!! I would estimate they are down 80%. Thanks!

The women in my family usually have hot flashes for 7 or 8 years. I just thought my hot flashes were finally tapering off after five years of suffering through them (I refused to take the meds), but now I see why. Two years ago, I gave up all animal products except eggs and occasional poultry. A little over a year ago, I went entirely plant based at 61 years old and it was just three or four months ago that I realized I hadn't had a serious hot flash in a very long time. I should have known! :) Maybe I'll try the full vegan AND daily soy beans idea to stop even the light, occasional hot flash.

I think its important to emphasise that vegan doesnt necessarily mean health anymore. There are so many vegan junk food products now. So keep it vegan/plant based and wholefood - as close to how they naturally occurred as possible to ensure you dont get fooled by food companies selling foods marketed as "healthy" but are still full of added sugar, refined grains, hydrogenated oils and additives.

Important Note: They are NOT using American soybeans. They are using non-GMO soybeans grown abroad. So if you think you can go to the supermarket to duplicate this recipe and Betty's results, you will be disappointed. Dr Barnard later says at minute marker 12:01 that previous studies with soybeans do not achieve these results, because they are not using the special non-American, non-GMO soybeans. If you go out and buy soybeans at the supermarket, you may not get the same results.

The past two years I have had maybe had 10 periods total. The only hot flash I have experienced in this time has been when I got the Covid vaccine, otherwise, I just don't get them. I do have 2 children & I feel no one understands. I also feel embarrassed to talk to turn to someone to talk to. This feels like a safe space to start. I can’t find anything for women in my age rage who get hot flashes🤷🏻‍♀️ can any of you lovely people help me out here. As it’s so hard that I have to even sleep in towels to make it easier. As I don’t have to change my bedding at ridiculous hours of early morning or get the hairdryer out to dry the duvet as it’s easier when I’am half asleep. I just change the towel, pillow case, go to the bathroom take my underwear off & wipe myself dry. Change into another pair of clean dry underwear, spray my pits (because I feel yuk, even though it doesn’t smell at all) I don’t know what to do 🥺 I did mention it once when I had a hospital admission when I had a laparoscopy (keyhole surgery) to remove scar tissue. They just fobbed me off totally by saying, “hmmm sure it’s nothing to worry about, your very young” that was it & nothing further & didn’t ask me even 1 question. So that made me feel soo embarrassed & this is first time I’ve found courage to share with people in hope anyone can help me. Also keep stress in check. Restorative yoga is excellent (I go to heart alchemy on you tube) and meditate. Learn to meditate. Nouridh your adrenals with yoga poses. Make sure you have all your vitamins and minerals optimal. Cleanse your liver with milk thistle. Ashwaghanda is great too add it to smoothies. Up your leafy greens LOTS I put mine in smoothies and eat a meal with them and up your omega 3s with flax and chia seeds (freshly ground) as your body needs essential fatty acids. Also eat foods that balance progesterone like pumpkin seeds. Drink lots of water like nearly a gallon and try to eat organic. Lastly get rid of endocrine disrupting chemicals in personal products and take Epsom salt baths for magnesium. Dry brushing skin before showers help lymphatic fluids get rid of toxins. Managing menopause naturally is a good FB page.

I noticed a slight difference in vaginal dryness after adding soy milk, but one cup of soy milk isn't helping get rid of Hot Flashes........The odd thing is, when I was not a vegan around age 42 I got hot flashes. This happened to be after a hysterectomy. They lasted for less than a year......unexpectedly went away for 10 whole years and have now returned after going vegan (with some cheating) but not immediately after going vegan, but about one year from going vegan. I've been eating a lot of almonds, peanuts, lentils, chickpeas, a variety of vegatables, with perhaps too much oil based Ken's Steakhouse salad dressing. How much vegan oil should I consume? I am a 5-2 woman of 153 pounds. I have also been eating a lot of triscuts which have oil. I had to go on salt tablets because of not enough salt in my diet.
I used to be able to buy soy nuts at the Stop and Shop in CT.........I moved to Clermont, Florida (west of Disney) Now I can not find soy beans or "soy nuts" at the grocery stores around here.
