I’ve had my XF since 2014 and I couldn’t be happier. None of these things have happened. Its a joy to drive. I highly recommend this car for anyone who wants to drive an elegant beast.
About to buy one this weekend- of course I'm going to test drive it first, look under the car and in the engine bay to make sure everything looks and sounds good. But I'm pretty damn excited!
I have a 2010 XF, I fixed the boot wiring harness very quickly, and malfunctions of electronics/ controls are simply fixed by switching off and back on. Also the Engine/Transmission mounts need changing at this age along with the all the suspension bushings. 5. The transmission has a rectangle plastic seal called a mechatronic seal that you can buy a billet aluminum one to replace it with online; that when broken will make the transmission have a hard 2-1 shift that lunges the car coming to a stop. Replacing it with another OEM plastic one will still crack again and again and again until you replace it with a metal one. 6. You have to replace the transmission oil with ZF Lifeguard 6 fluid only and filter every 50K miles or your trans will start to lunch itself. Other types of fluid will cause malfunctions. Replace the paper clutches with metal ones. Refurb the Valve body with new solenoids. 7. Replace the diff oil every 50K as well. 8. There is a plastic breather valve on the diff that can clog and cause problems with its operation. Clean/Replace it. 9. The stock Fuel Direct Injectors need changing every 100k miles because they will fail from high heat and pressure over time and you want to run a fuel lubrication cleaner like lucas oil through them at least one a quarter to keep them tip top. Also make sure the replacement injectors are Bosch or OEM. Knockoffs are terrible quality and will fail and blow the engine. 10. The fuel pump fuel filter housing has some bad connector that will short out and cause starting problems that needs replacing every 100k. Its under the passenger rear seat. Look inside the connector, if there are burn marks in there, yours is bad. 11. The O2 sensors need replacing every 100k or you can start to get check engine codes. There are 4, two upstream and two downstream. Make sure they are Denso or Bosch or OEM brand, the knockoffs cause more problems. 12. Same for the two MAF sensors. The rubber center driveshaft mount can fail causing drive-line vibration and also the rubber flex coupler isolators connecting the shaft to the diff and to the trans to the shaft get brittle over time and will fail. 15. Change Supercharger oil possibly add a S/C venom cooler from stagemeyer. While the supercharger is off, insulate the bottom of it with aspen aerogel from the engine heat and add a ePTFE spacer with water injection ports. 16. If your car was not driven hard or lots of short trips it has probably carbon buildup from DI and needs walnut blasting inside the intake. 17. EGR Blockoff plate and baffled oil catch can to prevent carbon buildup in future. 18. Make sure the tensioners are upgraded metal OEM ones. The early stock ones are plastic. 19. Divorce the intercooler setup from the radiator coolant and use separate tank and inter-chiller. This will allow the heat soak to not build up as fast. My intake air temps can get high here in FL. 180 degree+! stock normal IAT is around 147 degrees. Imagine getting this down to ambient. These things go for any XFR, F-Type, XJR, F-Pace, Range Rover 5.0L S/C variants.
I had a '13 2.0 petrol for more than two years, bought it with 60k km and sold it at almost 110k km. Never had any issues with it, aside from the rear subframe that broke due to a pothole on the road (brazilian roads are shit), but that's not Jaguar's fault. It had some kinda poor acceleration, but it got up to 100mph easily and was very (and I mean VERY) stable at high speeds like 110mph or more, and was very fuel efficient for it's weight/power. It cost me around US$500,00 a year to run, which is cheap considering it's a luxury car.
Myself and my brother-in-law both had a 2012. Issues we had included 1 broken flip up vent (warranty fix), trouble filling up car with the gas pump shutting off (warranty fix), malfunctioning entertainment screen (badly distorted colors) which was out of warranty and jaguar quoted a few thousand to fix, trouble with battery going dead if key was left in proximity to vehicle, and bad rattles coming from sunroof area.
I owned a 03 S Type, it was a perfect car and I had zero issues with it. I gave it to my cousin when I bought my 2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio Edition. I've had many problems with this car and I've spent thousands of dollars in repairs. The 1st thing to break was the water pump. Then the trunk latch had to be replaced. Next was a no start issue caused by a computer module. For this it had to go to the dealership because nobody else had the equipment to do the repair. It went to Rusnick Jaguar of Pasadena. Do NOT!!! Ever go there. It was over $2,000 for the repair. Then the fuel pump went out $1,400 for that. After the S Type being such a good car buying another Jaguar seemed like a good idea. I told the shop working on the XF: If it catches on fire 🔥 don't put it out! When running it's a great car and fun to drive. It's a luxury cruiser and at the twist of the gear knob it becomes a great sports car. Tata has killed JLR I'll never have another one.
Have had our 2011-XF-5.0-Supercharged since 2012 Certified. Had dash leather fixed (warranty) one window motor (myself) one battery (myself) thats it. Now at 60k miles and running strong as new (beast of a car actually) and just fit new P-Zeros all around. Everything just works and still very happy with it. I also take very good care of mine and low miles helps but like any car if abused/neglected it will fail too. If buy mystery used or you're an idiot (no jag maintenance) owner or lend out to abusers then don't blame the car, blame yourself.
and common issue on 3.0 D is the crack of inlet manifold.. you need the both sides to replace plus repair kit for injectors with need to be replaced with it.. just the parts costs more than 1000€
For diesels: "Only for short distances because.. you can clog DPF filter..". This means that DPF regeneration can start overfilling the engine with fuel. In some cases fuel is getting into the oil and causing motor to blow up. Especially on 2.7. It happend to me and it happend to others.
@@martinhuusfelt1783 Generally it takes 20 minutes of driving with speed above 100km/h. I don't know specifically for Jaguar XF. If this is the daily routine then it is the best case scenario. Cleaning should be done every 300-400 km. Pay attention that only high speed cruising only partially cleans filter. It is necessary to start cleaning cycle from time to time for full cleaning.
Just sharing my experience with my XF SV8 I bought one with 105 000km had to change both water pump and the expansion tank. All the control arms need to be changed as well. Needed to change a Vacuum hose as well since the idling wasn’t good anymore and the brake weren’t working. Otherwise the car is enjoyable to drive when it drives.
I owned a 2008 2.7 diesel this was my 12th jaguar owned it for nearly 4 years. the only problem I had with it was the satnav. it would stop working or show checking disc in progress when I checked the dvd player I found it was getting very hot. when I stripped it down I found a little cooling fan in side the player was not working only reason for selling it is I bought another one. great car.
@@Somerov are XF 2014 reliable I am 15 and looking at jags for my first car.I know that jags have a reputation for bad reliability and just want to know if XF are safe
@@injusticekiller8006 If you are 15, look for an other car to start. I mean the car is reliable but when you have something to fix and you can't do it your own it will get expensive. A Jag is not an car for an average earner..
These are common faults, doesn't mean all cars get them, just thing to look out for. Get one with a service record and not too many miles. They are heavy on brake pads and discs, otherwise it's down to individual cars. I'm getting one when I get round to it.
I started out with an 03 S Type 4.2 V8. During the Ford years they greatly improved the car's. I drove my S Type for almost 13 years. I never had it in the shop for anything other than service = oil changes. I did have to buy a new set of tires and a battery. I sold my S Type to buy my 2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio edition. Again it's never had a issue beyond regular oil change service and @ 6 years old a new battery. Which was less than $175 It's been an excellent car I love the power and the groul it makes. My 80 year old Mother drove it up to 116 mph. it rides like your driving on glass. I'm glad that it has the Ford built engine. They are sturdy and very reliable. The days of poor quality are very far in the rearview mirror of the Jaguar. They are less expensive to buy and maintain the a MB. and have much better looks. If you want one get one. They are now great car's I would recommend a 2nd generation 2012 forward then the 1st generation. The car in this review is a ,1st generation car
Great bying advice video! I had the waterpump changed ahead of 40000 km, the tail light cluster should be changed under warranty, air intake duct crack after 60000km (check engine air mix). The portfolio package is extra lux, it gives the car a better overall inside comfort. The V8 engines are great, smooth with nice suttle rumbl Kind regards Lemuren, driving a 2010 5,0 V8, Portfolio.
I'm sure you are aware that the 5.0 is known for chewing through water pumps and hoses. I went for the XV8 4.2 as the 5.0 was just coming out and I knew there would be problems. And there were. Not serious, unless you continued to drive the car once the low coolant light was on....
I nice list of possible issues to look for, thank you for the advice. Personally if a seriously considered buying a car like this I have thoroughly checked by a specialist. For about 200 euro’s that buys me a lot of peace mind. Especially in the case of Jaguar a company thar produced a lot of lemons in the past.
These cars are very reliable, because they are Fords, they might not be quite as reliable as a Ford SMax we recently sold at 214000 miles, but you should get 150k without too many issues, after all Ford designed all their brands to do 150k before any major mechanical failures and that’s been the case since 1993
@@timebandit71not entirely... it has some Ford castings, but JLR had their fingers in there to some degree. Mine has been pretty good so far knock on wood. Fun to drive and actually decent gas mileage. I've hunted down more than a few performance cars and surprised them.
Best review, but i have xf 2,7d and most of these problems are really rare so potentional buyers, dont be scared🤣 just dont buy car without any service documents
I have learned my lesson about European cars. Get a warranty if you can, look at the service history extensively, and ask the seller about a pre-purchase inspection. If the seller wont agree to the inspection, dont buy it.
back two windows won’t open, is that a writing loom? and trunk doesn’t open but i know that’s the loom lol. oh and doesn’t lock, can someone tell me how much it would cost to fix all three
What about the jaguar xjl i have a s350 cdi planning to change to jaguar xjl 3.0 diesel driven around 40000 kms and my s is driven 49000 kms should i change or stick to mine
@@Andybowers76 yeah but can you keep all points in mind? A printable list would be much easier to handle ;-) Anyway. I already bought a Jaguar XF and I love it. 😍
The 2010 and 2012 Jaguar XF sucks, I have a 2013 Jaguar XFR and I don't have any problems, it take a car maker around three years to fix a new model, never buy the fist models
MlaChake I feel the same I hv a 460 I just want a newer car but these XF problems are horrible smh 🤦🏾♂️ I’m stuck keep fixn my Lexus or get a newer jag
@@lxaccaxl Well you cant predict it actually. The engine really just turns off and you have to coast into safety. Its just not that easy if this happens in the left lane on the Autobahn in dense traffic as it once happened to me. Another situation was on just a Bundesstraße which usually is just a well built street with 1 or 2 lanes for each direction. Sometimes split physically, sometimes not. Also in stop and go it can occur, as it once happed. So yeah, it can really happen any time without any warning before. Just happens outta nowhere. A new issue occured recently (this friday). It didnt shut off, but when accelerating it just lost power and the computer said: "Motorleistung verringert!" on a red background. Which just means "Engine power reduced!" To be exact: Its the 3L Biturbo V6 with 211HP. I have read about issues with the turbos in combination with that error message, so I assume its one of the turbos not being able to deliver power because of an air-leak or something. Probably another insanely expensive fix if you cant do it yourself.
A wise decision. I had a 3.0 s and it was nothing but trouble considering it had a full service history with 83k on the clock. It has a nice easy life commuting 40 miles each way to work mostly on the motorway. The alternator failed and cost me 900 UK pounds to replace by jaguar. Then I had multiple leaks in the intake system over 2 years. The primary turbo failed causing the dpf to clog up. The rear axle bushes went. The wiring loom in the boot had to be fixed. Jaguar charge 160 UK pounds an hour . The turbo actuator on the secondary turbo failed at a cost of 800 UK pounds to replace. I had the cambelt changed and then the intake manifold cracked which would have been an 8.5 hour job to replace plus the cost of the parts so I cut my losses at that point and sold it for scrap. One night the car shut down completely on the motorway and it put itself into park as I was slowing down on the hard shoulder. I had owned a X type jaguar before that and it was fantastic. Never had a single issue in over 133,000 miles.
Fixing my door handle (mechanism replacement) cost me 250 GBP. Jaguar dealer in Jersey UK. In the first place the've replaced wrong one , after i've discovered that , mistake was corrected with no extra cost.
man, can you tell me something that dsnt break on this fucking car ? it-s beautiful, i wanted an xf for 2 years since i saw the car, but now you crushed my dream. what should i do ? should i not buy the car ? I want a car that doesnt need me to take care of it, meaning, i dont want to be a sclave to the car, vice-versa would be ideal :) Any recommendations ? Thx and all the best!!!
it is definitely a great looking car -but it is a used luxury car, so it most probably won't be 100% reliable, of course there are plenty of XF owners who had literally zero problems with the car, but generally speaking-statistics?, there is a bigger possibility that some (or most of) those things mentioned in this video will go wrong, unless the previous owner already fixed these issues -the facelifted cars (made after 2011) are more reliable, so they can have a lot less issues, the engines are also most of the time reliable -as I said you can't expect bulletproof reliability from a used luxury car like this, on the other side with a regular maintenance you can avoid a lot of possible problems as well
My 2010 3.0L D has done 155,000 miles and is fine, it is serviced every year by Jaguar. Fixed price servicing is available on cars over three years old.
These cars have so many faults they are very unlikely to be future classics. They have Avery short shelf life and the faults are expensive and time consuming to repair. Stay well clear of them. Buy at your own peril.
Nope - my 2008 SV8 has been superb (140k miles). Only non wear and tear failures have been an exhaust (after I grounded it) and a supercharger idler pulley. They get through brakes and tyres, but it's a 2000kg 400hp car, so that's not surprising. Maybe I've been lucky, but I've not come across any of these faults. My Dad's Range Rover has more gremlins in a month. I don't know how they do it - the electronics appear to be the same. I think the key is to find a good Jag specialist, the main dealers are...... inconsistent.
I said in the 1st post. I have a 2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio edition. I love the car. I previously owned s S Type for 13 years, no problems there either. It was a great car so I no concerns about buying another one. Jaguars problems are far back in history of the car. If you want one get one. And if you're afraid if repairs and cost spend $46 a month on service contract with Delta Auto Protect. Don't buy it at the dealership. They mark them up $1,000-$1,500. I got mine through Delta for 3 years bumper to bumper. For about $2,150.00 if you can't afford that you can't afford any other car either. Think about what a supercharger would cost to replace. That one item is more than the warranty contract. But I hope I'll actually never need it. I know my luck. If I have it I won't need it. If I don't have it I'll wish I did and it would happen tomorrow.
Well fuck, I’m not buying one of these now. Car is a piece of shit. Sucks because the exterior styling is so nice. Take the body off and put it on a Toyota frame and you have a serious ride.
No it isn't. My 3.0 s had more or less Evey issue mentioned over the 2 years I owned it. I ended up scrapping it in the end. It had a full service history as well and I had just had the cambelt replaced 2 months before the inlet manifold blew. Jaguar won't honour any known issues either. They make you pay for everything.

S type was built under Ford not surprised it came out very solid cars
I have of 2013 model xf
U r absolutely correct
I faced almost all issues
Bt as it just guve me fun to drive and feels me so rich and luxry to drive
Have had our 2011-XF-5.0-Supercharged since 2012 Certified. Had dash leather fixed (warranty) one window motor (myself) one battery (myself) thats it. Now at 60k miles and running strong as new (beast of a car actually) and just fit new P-Zeros all around. Everything just works and still very happy with it. I also take very good care of mine and low miles helps but like any car if abused/neglected it will fail too. If buy mystery used or you're an idiot (no jag maintenance) owner or lend out to abusers then don't blame the car, blame yourself.
Got a 2008 2.7d had full history with it had no problems with it take it to jaguar for survise every year
They are fn. Junk

and common issue on 3.0 D is the crack of inlet manifold.. you need the both sides to replace plus repair kit for injectors with need to be replaced with it.. just the parts costs more than 1000€
And it's an 8.5 hour job to replace the inlet manifold.
Why they put a plastic manifold on a twin turbo car is beyond my comprehension.
For diesels: "Only for short distances because.. you can clog DPF filter..". This means that DPF regeneration can start overfilling the engine with fuel. In some cases fuel is getting into the oil and causing motor to blow up. Especially on 2.7. It happend to me and it happend to others.
what is short distances please? The golden question :)

So what the farrrrt do you drive azzhol?
Just sharing my experience with my XF SV8 I bought one with 105 000km had to change both water pump and the expansion tank.
All the control arms need to be changed as well. Needed to change a Vacuum hose as well since the idling wasn’t good anymore and the brake weren’t working.
Otherwise the car is enjoyable to drive when it drives.
All your reviews are very helpful thank you...
I owned a 2008 2.7 diesel this was my 12th jaguar owned it for nearly 4 years. the only problem I had with it was the satnav. it would stop working or show checking disc in progress when I checked the dvd player I found it was getting very hot. when I stripped it down I found a little cooling fan in side the player was not working only reason for selling it is I bought another one. great car.
How it was working?
How much was maintaince cost?
What was major servicing cost?

I have a 2013 3.0 Supercharged that has had no issues apart from its regular services.
So what good car to buy???? All the cars have positive and negative things
Like everything in life. ...
These are common faults, doesn't mean all cars get them, just thing to look out for. Get one with a service record and not too many miles. They are heavy on brake pads and discs, otherwise it's down to individual cars. I'm getting one when I get round to it.
Can u do a review on the jaguar XJ and XJR
forgot to include how much fuel each engine uses ^^ newer videos have that and I love it
I started out with an 03 S Type 4.2 V8. Which was less than $175
It's been an excellent car I love the power and the groul it makes.
I went from a 2000 S-type 4.0 to an '09 SV8. Agree on the reliability.
totally agree. I had a facelift loan car over my first generation car. It's more smoother and more nimble than mine
These cars are very reliable, because they are Fords, they might not be quite as reliable as a Ford SMax we recently sold at 214000 miles, but you should get 150k without too many issues, after all Ford designed all their brands to do 150k before any major mechanical failures and that’s been the case since 1993
The xf V8 is not a ford....Built and designed in the UK by Jaguar.
@@timebandit71 are you aware of who owns Jaguar….
@@TurboquandoGaming Yes, by Jaguar at Coventry .
@@timebandit71not entirely... it has some Ford castings, but JLR had their fingers in there to some degree.
Mine has been pretty good so far knock on wood. Fun to drive and actually decent gas mileage. I've hunted down more than a few performance cars and surprised them.
Thank you for the video. We have one coming in as a part exchange and will be good to look out for these things.
If the seller wont agree to the inspection, dont buy it.
mine had door lock fails. window regulator, siezed tyre rod, both headlamps blown. All fixed by dealer..apart from that..no problems
What year was it? I am looking at 2009 3l petrol and want to make sure I am not buying a lemon

Very wise choice!
Yeah dont buy it. Its really unreliable. Its engine even shuts off randomly sometimes, which is really fucking dangerous.
What do you mean the engine shuts off randomly? How? What ? When , really?
Which just means "Engine power reduced!"
To be exact: Its the 3L Biturbo V6 with 211HP.
Never had a single issue in over 133,000 miles.
...Narrated by Alexander Meerkat.
Now that did make me laugh out Fucking loud 👍😄

I want a car that doesnt need me to take care of it, meaning, i dont want to be a sclave to the car, vice-versa would be ideal :) Any recommendations ? Thx and all the best!!!
a lot of cars have problems tbh.
it is definitely a great looking car
-but it is a used luxury car, so it most probably won't be 100% reliable, of course there are plenty of XF owners who had literally zero problems with the car, but generally speaking-statistics?, there is a bigger possibility that some (or most of) those things mentioned in this video will go wrong, unless the previous owner already fixed these issues
-the facelifted cars (made after 2011) are more reliable, so they can have a lot less issues, the engines are also most of the time reliable
-as I said you can't expect bulletproof reliability from a used luxury car like this, on the other side with a regular maintenance you can avoid a lot of possible problems as well
lucky? That's not a good sign.
Check on Lincoln sedan...
My 2010 3.0L D has done 155,000 miles and is fine, it is serviced every year by Jaguar. Fixed price servicing is available on cars over three years old.

So, I loved this car a few days ago. Now....not so much!
Don't let the review worry you. It was a list of all POTENTIAL issues.
2,7d is not good idea
Why
These cars have so many faults they are very unlikely to be future classics. They have Avery short shelf life and the faults are expensive and time consuming to repair.
Stay well clear of them. Buy at your own peril.
and yet I drive an XF that is 10 years old and it drives excellenty with no major problems
and you drive a .....?
I have had 2 Jaguar XF and both have been perfect, just normal servicing costs and the brakes etc are as cheap as a Mondeo's
So like any man made machine things start to fail with age......
So basically what he's saying is, don't buy this car.
i feel he make video for a cheap china car ))) a car can beat all the German machines starting fro Mercedes, Audi ,etc surprising video
The jaguar breaks down like the range rovers
No it does not if treated correctly and serviced regularly.
Its the same company
You, sir, know nothing...
Don’t buy them. I had the 2010 XFR and it was one thing after another. Total crap.
So I can get one for cheap im guessing sign me up
Ford escape 2008 to 2012

No it isn't. My 3.0 s had more or less Evey issue mentioned over the 2 years I owned it.
I ended up scrapping it in the end.
It had a full service history as well and I had just had the cambelt replaced 2 months before the inlet manifold blew.
Jaguar won't honour any known issues either. They make you pay for everything.
@@davefrance3721 I've had a fair share of the problems mentioned in this video too. The facelift ones ar ethe ones to go for in my opinion
