    Armie and Timmie are so much like Oliver and Elio...intelligent, they read each others minds, their playful with each other...unreal how similar they are.

    "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." That is exactly how I believe Elio felt during the last shot of the movie during the credits when he cracked a slight smirk after having cried. UGHHH SO GOOD!!!

    • @maggiebepth
      @maggiebepth 7 лет назад +30

      Really? She is a legend and her questions were pertinent, but I'm sensing that with cinema she's not at the top of her game. She spoils the movie a lot which is never a good principle when it comes to journalism regarding said art form. It's not an opinion, it's journalism textbook 101 You can never assume everyone has seen a movie that's still showing in theaters and most importantly, still being promoted. Only if you're talking after a screening at a Q&A or something like that.

    • @robburrows5192
      @robburrows5192 7 лет назад +13

      THIS. Regardless of her important, thorough reporting from basically some of the most dangerous and destructive regions, she has no idea about reflecting on "spoilers" obviously not something needed or wanted in her area of reporting expertise. Even though she didn't want to reveal the end, she unabashedly did just that, literally within seconds. Other areas were thoughtfully covered, but imho that doesn't balance out the standard for reporting this form.

    Timmy is very eloquent and is really coming into his own. He is in a league of his own when compared to his contemporaries. A really bright career lies ahead of him and I hope his involvement in WA's film will not taint this film during awards season and his future in film. This was a great interview for both Hammer and Chalamet. I think him, Saoirse Ronan and Yara Shahidi are the new breed of actors that we should look forward to, on and off screen,

    Man bless this woman for asking about the Woody Allen thing. Though he didn’t really comment on it at least he’s acknowledged it now and didn’t show signs of defending Allen as other actors have. He also hinted that he’ll talk about it later once he’s able to so I’ll be waiting for that.

    • @bcnmanhattan5022

      I can't see why he should take the task of deffending a person that has been repeatedly accused and never found even worth of prosecuting. You're playing beastly Amanpour's game here. Think for yourself.

      bcnmanhattan50 you can’t see why he’d defend him ? Good because me neither so we’re on the same page. Sexual assault accusations shouldn’t be taken lightly. I've seen HUNDREDS TV series and MOVIES portraying same sex love (French, Italian, Spanish, Thai, Japanese, American Series), and no cast comes close to these two: Armie and Timmie. They not only got the looks down, but the chemistry, aura, everything~ they understood what project they were in. It's like you can hardcore ship them, yet the art of their onscreen acting makes you see the calibre they have as actors and human beings.

      Completely agree. I can see so much anger by his response, but actually, he started the project, and finished it, BEFORE the news came out regarding Woody Allen allegations of rape (totally unacceptable, we agree).He has supported the movement, and he surely will provide us his perspective, and position when the time comes. So as all the people that were part of this film are. None of them have directly made an statement. And I agree with Tim, and support the fact that he really wants to make the statement about this, but when the time comes. He´s not silent. He's supporting the movement.

      Mia's daughter allegations are as old as the Bible. So are Allen's denials. Interestingly this is the only allegation against him and now that hundreds of men in the film and fashion industries are facing multiple accusations, the old Allen's haters have seen an opportunity to finally pursue their agenda to destroy this man's brilliant career. For Amanpour to join the hordes of haters cornering a young recently arrived actor with the question is revolting and shows the unscrupulous Amanpour at her worst.

    The characters are not gay, they're both bisexual

    • @avidreader2316
      @avidreader2316 7 лет назад +160

      louder! i'm so disappointed that literally all of mainstream media has put it in the "gay coming of age" genre box when the actors, director and the book's author have all said that it is more universal and the "straight" relationships between Elio and Marzia and Oliver and Chiara aren't fake or a way to hide being gay. People can be bisexual you know? And why put a label on it anyway?

    • @archraskal
      @archraskal 7 лет назад +46

      Broke, Black, Woke
      Nonsense, they can be assumed to be gay justifiably. The film takes place in 1983 and both Elio's and Olivers involvement sexually with females are responses to social pressures.
      It's inauthentic. Besides, Oliver's relationship to the woman whom he's engaged to is described as being "off and on" which should serve as a hint that he's closeted. The thing
      is that both have found the place and the person where they can be their authentic selves. Many fully identified gay people have had a history of faux romantic relationships with
      the opposite sex. I'm sure you're familiar with the terms "having a beard" and being "on the down low." There are a lot of people who misidentify as bisexual. This also has a term
      and it's called :sitting on the fence." It's important to remember that this movie is about a same sex romance. Identifying them and their relationship as "gay" is accurate.

    • @georgia3997
      @georgia3997 7 лет назад +69

      André Aciman has confirmed that Elio is bisexual.
      Also in the book Elio writes in his diary: "We are not written for one instrument alone; I am not, neither are you."
      Elio also thinks: "What never crossed my mind was that [...] someone else in my immediate world might like what I liked, want what I wanted, be who I was. It would never have entered my mind because I was still under the illusion that [...] no one my age had ever wanted to be both man and women - with man and women."
      This pretty much confirms that Elio and Oliver are bisexual right?

    • @Jason-lw2nw
      @Jason-lw2nw 7 лет назад +15

      It's not clear what they are. But because of the ambiguity this is why I believe that people should use the term "same-sex romance" or something, because regardless of what they choose to label themselves as they are both men who are romantically involved and this relationship is the center of the story. Not the relationships they have with any of the women.

      It is widely accepted that bi-sexuality is a myth.

      And now it is accepted that an individual has no choice in the matter.
      Desire is obvious and now we can stop fooling ourselves.

    I just want to share my two cent.
    The Woody Allen accusation has been going on since 1992. But he was not convicted nor charged and this matter was put to rest for so many years until the Harvey Weinstein case exploded. To me personally, I think it’s not fair that you guys are blaming these young actors alone who are trying to follow the footsteps for their role models when all the actors and actresses who has worked with WA in the past could’ve done something too. (actors who worked with him after the allegations of assault in 1992). Im sure their intentions are good but it just so happens that these allegations resurface at the time of this movie “A Rainy day in New York” was shot.
    One of my favourite actresses Greta Gerwig also the director of Lady Bird said “if I knew then what I knew now, I wouldn't have agreed to be in that film” (more or less). But truth is, the movie “To Rome with Love” was released in 2012. How can she not know about the allegation? Why didn't she said no?
    Im jut saying, if you guys want to make it as literal as possible then treat everyone equally. Dont just attack Timothee or Selena just because they are “stuck” in this film at the moment. Just because they are working for WA right now doesn’t mean they're bad people. Just give them time to explain things and let them learn how to handle sensitive situations like this. In all honesty, I thought Timmy handled it very well. Such an intelligent young man he is.
    On the other note, huffington post is now attacking Timmy for lying when he said he couldnt comment on this matter because of “contractual obligation” . Further accusing him on playing for both sides. Grow up, he’s donating all his salary from this movie. If that doesnt show which side he’s on then I dont know what will. Read between the lines dude.
    Okay that is it. All in all, great interview. :)

    My sisters recommended I read Call me by your Name about a sexual raging teenager falling in love one summer. I’m a sucker for great love stories so I asked for more details. And that’s when I found out he fell in love a guy. I had never read a book like but my sisters assured me, it’s a great love story. I listened to audio that’s actually read by Armie and fell in love. I couldn’t wait to see the movie so I watched several clicks and interviews and fell in love with Timothe. I just love this movie so much. I’ve seen the movie and can’t wait to have it on DVD. I’ve listened to the book many times. I kinda read the book when I was going through some shit so it was my escape and has been a great joy I can’t get enough of. And no the things I was going through weren’t related to sexuality. I’m going through a divorce so losing my marriage made me relate to Elio losing Oliver.

    Impressive interview, for lots of reasons. for one, there's an intelligent interviewer speaking with articulate, sensitive artists. I think the greatest boon of "Call Me By Your Name" and the reception it has gotten is that its beauty, its kindness, its grace have been offered at a time those things are so badly needed. Hammer is correct when he notes that those virtues are always needed, that there is no particular "season" for them. But one cannot deny that the chord, the "nerve" that this film and these artists (especially Guadanigno, who directed "I Am Love" as well) have struck have been yearning toward this satisfaction for some time. Thank you, all.

    Morality aside many top actors (male and female) would 'kill' to be cast in one of Allen's movies simply because artistically he's one of the best in the industry. For a very young and relatively unknown actor like Chalamet it's an opportunity of a lifetime he and his agent couldn't refuse. And chances are they sign the contract well before this whole #MeToo become the big elephant in the room. I would bet that if given a chance Timmy probably would rather not making this Allen's movie.
    Personally I think some of us who are passing judgement on him, a young up and coming actor, instead of focusing on the long list of much established male and female actors who have worked with Woody Allen over the years is kind of unfair.
    We'll see what Timmy has to say once he's allowed to voice his opinion; until then let's give him a break.
    With all that being said, I'm very impressed by this particular interview conducted by the amazing Amanpour! Especially proud of the questions and the answers from the two actors; particularly impressed and surprised by Chalamet's thoughtful and articulate responses. He is a dope.

      Yeah! And look at that Greta something of Lady Bird. She now says she didn't know about the allegations against Allen. She then must be an idiot living in limbo because everybody from Oprah to Meryl knew and they couldn't care less, til just now. And here you have this little kid having to take in Amanpour rudeness so she can seem incisive. Revolting opportunism.

      Amanpour was beastly to Tim. Her question about Allen was totally out of line. She should be so brave to ask Oprah and Meryl, among dozens of others who have been aware of the sexual harassment in Hollywood and chose to ignore it. Allen has only ONE allegation from one of Mia's daughters that so far has never been sustained legally.

      Renee Hill I don't think he's at the age or stage where he can simply reject a job offer. He was a nobody last year. But sure woke-tivists think they can decide what's good for someone they haven't talk with

    • @iloveyouuuu135
      @iloveyouuuu135 7 лет назад +22

      zullyholly Your decisions make your life. I’m not saying Timmy is a bad person, and I’m not trying to “make decisions” for his life. I obviously can’t. He’s smart enough to know better. He made his own decision, as he can ad should. He can turn down certain projects and accept others, regardless of being new on the scene. Based off of this decision alone, I am *saying* that he will probably come to regret it as he makes better decisions in the future. He’s young. He will make mistakes.

    • @zullyholly
      @zullyholly 7 лет назад +6

      Renee Hill I'm not referring to you, sorry if you misunderstood. But then the decision to choose a project is not necessarily on the actor, it's his agent. After watching The Disaster Artist, I understand better how important an agent is in Hollywood. I'm just saying there are way too many factors to be accounted for when an actor pick a project, but people are still pressuring him as if he got no strings attached to him.

    • @iloveyouuuu135
      @iloveyouuuu135 7 лет назад +5

      zullyholly Oh, I apologize. Still, though. Timothée is old enough to make his own decisions, and I don’t think not holding him accountable does any good. That’s not to say he isn’t facing any pressures. Many actors have worked with him. I just don’t want him to this serve as an asterisk in his career.

    • @zullyholly
      @zullyholly 7 лет назад +4

      Renee Hill Of course he's still accountable and it'll be a harsh learning experience. But even if he regrets it, I'll not force him to call out WA now or whenever he feels it's not the right time. Unless someone want to cover his lawyer fee for breach of any contract or defamation, which I reckon no one is willing to do.

    It's not all about sex, if you really love someone, you will respect him and make him feel that he is the most valuable person in your life. Some people got caught by the desire of having sex without even thinking if that person is being abused or humiliated. But our world is different, we have to go on the flow. It's sad but it's the fact that most people are like that.

    "...a gift of fruitful weeks to know each other..spent a lot of time with one another ..the random luck of the universe that we hit it off as human beings...we genuinely liked each other, too...you are two straight guys, playing gay guys...how did you create that chemistry...it's all about tolerance as well...did you think this is the moment that needs to hear that?...I think that is message that is always timely..." I guess what it all boils down to is that human beings can be attracted to one another, even loving one another, and are able to transcend social roles that are assigned them to do this. Why some would insist that such is not so would merely be arresting the full blooming of human sexuality or humanity in each one of us.

      This is a great interview. It is good to see that the 2 guys fit into the mood of each interview, be it serious or frivolous. bcnmanhattan50 Yes! The hypocrisy of the so-called "Me-too" movement isn't lost on me. The more things change the more they stay the same. If in the past men were abusing their power and clout to get to women, now people like Opera are using their power and clout to get away with their silence. I was baffled by people calling her God and the next president while her pics kissing Weinstein not so long ago are all over the Internet. While young artist like Timothee are being attacked for working with a director who was accused and found not guilty by the experts. Marrying the 22 year-old daughter of your ex-girlfriend is very creepy to say the least, but he didn't harass/abuse his 7 year-old daughter. If anything, her mother messing with her mind was brought up in the medical exams (which are also available online).
