Our How to Tile Around a Window will give you all the skills you need to do this job well.
The techniques featured in this video will help you master the skill of tiling around a window recess. You’ll find out how to accurately measure the depth of the recess, cut your tiles to size and fix them in place. There’s advice on fitting tile trim, creating neat corner joins, and instructions on how to make and install wooden supports to keep your top tiles in place whilst the adhesive sets.
    Preparation & Planning
For the best results, the tiles around your window should be in keeping with the tiles on the surrounding wall. To achieve this, plan the layout of your tiles in advance to ensure all tiles are symmetrically aligned, and that grout lines in the recess match grout lines along the wall.
    Aftercare
After finishing your tiling project, use a grout protector spray to stop penetration by water, dirt, oil, grease and lime scale. Using this product will help to prolong the life of your grout and keep the area easy to clean.
Getting the job done - hints & tips
Use tile trim to give your bathroom a professional finish. Use wooden suppports to keep the tiles at the top of your window in place whilst the adhesive dries. It's a good idea to cut these to size before applying adhesive to the window area so you don't end up trying to juggle tasks!
    Safety
Always use protective gloves and protective goggles whilst cutting tiles.

Better than B&Q video which is terrible but this also doesn't close up and explain installing trim properly which would be the main reason for someone to want to watch a video on tiling around Windows because anything else is just the same as tiling a single wall.

Difficult to ensure tiles are symmetrical around a window when there are so many other places where they need to be symmetrical - the wall itself, a shower cubicle, a bath, WC etc.

If the window is in shower make sure to slope the edges of tile so water can run off into bath tub. Otherwise great simple and explanatory video.

there are steps missing here. Like make sure to leave a grout line when placing trim...

I’m planning to use small mosaic tiles just at the bottom of the window as my window is small.

After the tile installation, is there enough room to remove the window or we need to remove the tiles if we want to install the new window?

If you mean..to cut the window out, then no, the fitter should be able to get the old window out without causing any damage to the tiles.

Yea dunno about centering with a window thats not center on the wall.. so either have symmetry with the window or the wall, both of which you will see... conundrum.... godamn i need a woman...

Why don't you sell corners for the job instead of having to cut? One mistake & the trim is in the bin.

Don't you have to seal grout though? My corners let the water through. ...

Corners should be sealed with mastic, not grout.

    • @wavellan
      @wavellan 6 лет назад +2

Sealing grout does not make it waterproof. The waterproofing layer is under the tiles.

Most of these "tiling around windows" videos seem to me to be wrong. I thought the purpose of tile trim should be to cover the cut edges of tile with in the trim fold. i.e. the trim should be placed the opposite way to that shown here so that the cut edges are concealed and the uncut rounded edges in the window reveal butt against the plain side of the trim. Hope that makes sense.

morhywaden perfect sense. You are completely correct. A better title for this video would be "How not to tile around a window".

The author does like to from scratch, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

It looks much neater to start with full tiles down each side of the window then cut the tiles to match in the middle.
