Author did a huge mistake in that project: if your sensor working contitiosly it turns into accumulator contacts and will produce dangerous salts in the ground. Please insert 1 hour delay between reading sensor data in your firmware. Best regards
@@justincandas They are oriented the right way. You don't want the openings for the screws at the top. //Edit: You are correct that they were oriented the wrong way in the beginning. They are correct in the final shot, just for everyone else wondering what Justin ist talking about.
You're right. This sensor is resistance based. It quickly corrodes and self distructs. You need capacitance based sensor. Capacitance based sensor looks similar but it is isolated and does not need direct contact with soil to work. Since capacitance is depentant to the dielectric constant and dielectric constant changes with water content (or whatever else too actually), you can measure change in water content. Since there is no contact it never corrodes. There are water level sensors that detects the presence of water from outside of your plastic or glass container which uses the same concept. They are also great for water tank, aquarium, hyroponics, aquaponics etc automation. I'm using them in my water plant tank automation in my balcony to automatically top off the water level.
Actually this is not that hard if you have some experience with drilling. And this is not wood, it is kind of chipboard or fiberboard. Many boards like this are more dense on the surfaces and less dense in the middle core so the drill wants to go in the middle.
Next video you should make an automatic silicone dispenser for the silicone gun you used In the video. I’m good with these types of projects and I ended up making so 12 volt fans that power on with a temp sensor, 12 volt dc low voltage cut off and a solar panel with batteries to cool off my shed in the Summer.
Okay, this was my first video I saw from you and then I was curious. What else do you have on your channel and I’m speechless of the quality from your builds it is astonishing. I learn so many things from your creativity. If I would see you on the streets, I would love to shake hands with you and probably would say I’m a big fan of your work hopefully your channel riesig to the moon because it deserves more subs :-)
Nice! I have always wanted tomake one of these so I'm confident that my plants will be ok when I leave on vacations for long times. I guess what's next fromthis is to connect a UV lamp to a timer so that takes care of the lighting as well.
@@mohammadrezamim272 I agree, but the inexpensive ones need to be conformal coated or the circuit board will become saturated and quit working. I've heard that finger nail polish works as a conformal coating but the sensor should be cleaned and re-coated every few years. I think the sensors will work if inserted in a plastic bag which may be even better than a conformal coating.
I just wish you would have shown it mounted to the wall, as you obviously intended to since you made those wall mounting brackets. I would like to have seen how you ran the power cables and your water source?
This is done brilliantly 🥰. Love the way you shared every part of your project. You even showed the sandblasting of the glass below. I would add a single observation: if the sensor fails the water will keep running until the motor fails or you are left without water in the container. Is there a fail safe for this?
You can set a timer for the motor so that when it is connected, for example, it will be on for 20 seconds. But in order to make the video not too complicated, I omitted it.
youd think you would have a pipe going full length of the planter with multiple holes so the full planter got a even coverage of water instead of one side mostly being saturated.
Все класно, тільки корням рослин потрібен доступ до повітря інакше вони почнуть гнити (дренаж). В наступному варіанті краще зробити трубочку з отворами на всю довжину для рівномірного поливу.
These soil moisture sensors are not very good. Capacitive version is better. But this is still awesoeme. I have to build something like this with my son :)
Really nice project, but from many plants that i have tried doing it most of the times in long term usage the sensor contacts are been destroyed or in bad condition and the plant doesn't get enough water.
Can you do a Kia Optima 2012 key fob, a button delete and slim down to the size of a regular key? I mainly want the fob to be able to be detected by the car to start.
Wow, a manual and large sandblaster. The one that I've seen is the smaller, portable version (red color). And it includes the specialized gloves and protective glass :/
So, this is a good project. But if your looking for accuracy and efficiency, it isn't a good one at all. Why? Coz one sensor on the top isn't an accurate measure of the moisture content in the soil. And someone here was pointing out about salts? I'm not sure what you mean by that.
Thanks for watching 😉😉😉

Is this kind of sensor can be reliable after one year or more? I would use insulated version.

Why is nobody talking about how you drilled perfectly straight through like 150-200mm of wood?! That's insane !
Actually this is not that hard if you have some experience with drilling. And this is not wood, it is kind of chipboard or fiberboard. Many boards like this are more dense on the surfaces and less dense in the middle core so the drill wants to go in the middle.
Still impressive to make the two holes meet perfectly in the middle no matter the material.
Lots of videos of watering, but this ias beauty on a whole new level, even with a DIY water pump with a simple syringe! Love it!!
Wow! This is so simple. I'll just head out to my dedicated sandblasting room.
Where do u get the sensor or how do u make 1? Wish he showed that..

Awesome Project !! 😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This is a great video! Do you have any circuit diagrams or parts lists that you could upload?
nice build!
Cool build. But this probe will rust, damaging the soil, so better use some protected moisture sensors.
Actually you can buy thensame probe on Amazon and they last very well indeed
You can use capacitve sensor instead, that would last for years.
no problem. You can use graphite inside the pen battery, which is resistant to corrosion inside the soil.
How would it rust the probes aren't iron they are tinned copper
