Donatello is a fan favorite. He's also very unique compared to the rest of the cast. You can't really mash with Donny, and juggling takes practice. In turn, his juggles are very worthwhile, and his super is one of the more useful ones. I respect players who choose Don, and more so when they are skilled with him.
Please make one of these for each of the characters. I love seeing how you explore the nuances in the mechanics of the characters. It seems like people just look at the star stats in determining the value of each.
I love how even tho each character plays the same making it easy for casuals to get into and have fun, you also get rewarded for playing smartly and using the mechanics properly.
I played as Donatello on my first play through because he's my favorite turtle. I played through the whole story from the start with 3 friends as the 4 turtles couch coop in one night. Which is probably the best way to experience the game for the first time.

Donnie had a tendency to be really overpowered in the older tmnt games, the older the game is directly proportional to how better he was to the other turtles, until I would say the 2k3 turtles games started coming out, after that he was completely normalized in comparison to his siblings.
@@donutsama285 To each their own. I think it depends on your specific play style. Personally, I kick ass with Donatello. His specials are ridiculously overpowered, true screen-sweepers. He may not be the fastest, but if you focus on keeping your foes at a distance, you are almost untouchable. There are no "best" or "worst" characters in this game, but the ones which are the best or the worst for you. The fact that tere's still not a clear tier list everyone agrees upon should tell how well-balanced the characters are. I've seen people who are really good with Leo and Mikey, and I feel really awkward with them, missing a lot of hits due to a lack of vertical reach or directly passing through enemies without hitting them. For me, the best characters at the moment (I still haven't played the two humans in depth) are Raph, Splinter, and Don.
@@donutsama285 Well, you are right in some points, but I just don't agree with others. I consider myself to be sort of an intermediate level player; I just didn't expect to go so in-depth with the mechanics. I have finished the game on Gnarly quite a few times now, and the characters I struggled the least with are the ones I mentioned (Raph, Splinter, Don). If the best character is the one who can kill bosses the quickest, then I agree, Don is not the fastest. However, that's not my definition of best. Donatello can dispatch tons of regular enemies very quickly with his super, gaining s in the meantime and frustrating other players who get to do nothing (or at least that was my experience online). About using the regular super against bosses, I have never been hit after using it, since I activate it at enough distance for the enemy not to be able to reach me. Also, I find Don's running elbow (with super long reach), his sliding kick and his raising/drop kick (sorry, I don't know the technical names, I play the game in Spanish XD) to be really helpful for staying out of tight spots. However, what I believe to be his best quality is his ability to hit many enemies (up to four, or even five on some rare occasions) with each single strike, sometimes even hitting enemies who are behind him, and his "vertical" reach (hitting enemies which are closer to or further away from the camera), which is almost zero for other characters (Mikey, for example, is exasperating in that regard, and even Leo whiffs a few of those, especially with his running shoulder, which I find to be abysmal). So yes, his DPS might be suboptimal against a single foe, but it excels when surrounded. What I say does not invalidate your words; we just happen to have different definitions of strong vs. weak characters. I personally like solid, safe characters who are versatile and offer possibilities of teamwork. Killing bosses fast is, to my understanding, just a minor defining factor of character overall performance/quality. But, as I have already said, that is MY oppinion and nobody else's :).
God I love this game. I understand why most people find SOR4 better but for me, this is better. It's a combination of nostalgia, the visuals and music that just does it for me. I'm also a filthy casual so I don't care about the high level play stuff. I'm just button mashing on normal difficulty and having a blast.
Great vid, good tips. I've always been a Don guy. There are arguments all over saying Don is OP to Don is trash, as you mentioned. Personally I don't think he's OP compared to other characters but I wouldn't say he's behind them, either, thanks to that elbow bash infinite. Some people comment that he gets overwhelmed too easily by swarms of enemies, but the 3 hit combo to sped-up heavy swing (saves 7 frames of wind-up), Flying super, and the fact that his aerial and slide hit twice to fill up his meter faster mean that it's really not a big problem, you just have to play smart and position well. Even if you don't position well, he can Flying attack out or Rising -> Aerial multiple times until he regains his footing. I only wish he had more utility options that were unique the way Leo's got the beyblade and 2-hit heavy swing, Raph and Casey do suplex throw slams, etc. Don should be able to push himself forward with his bo like he did in Turtles In Time or even have a counter move where he blocks with the staff and attacks back.
@@donutsama285 I'll agree with that. His 4th hit does three damage, though, so his combo still does the full six compared to Leo and Raph. It's just slower as you mentioned. The range makes things safer for him, though. Even if he wasn't my favorite, Don would be my go-to for the Take No Damage challenges. Also, fun fact: His charged move has enough range to hit the Statue of Tyranny when Krang pulls away and sends Foot Soldiers after you.
@@donutsama285 Mikey and April actually do 5 for their full combo and Splinter does 8, but those two have aerials galore so it's nbd. Sure, Raph, Mikey, & April will mow through enemies the fastest, but if you take hits, that will slow down your speedrun, and Don is the best at avoiding taking damage.
I found some Donatello tech. You can convert Don's slide attack into a combo attack if it connects late frames. Leo also has something like this, but slightly more generous (I think).

Found this video today right in time when yesterday my crystal purple SN30 pro pad was delivered. Let me tell ya, with this game it's so WORTH IT!!! TMNT needed a good beat'em'up and this retro style controller makes the gameplay so responsive and crisp and combo with this vid, Donny and I are practicing Bo staff kata A-Z on foot clan stooges 😆

Awesome video man and thanks for sharing! Now to my question that is about the online rankings for this game! In the ps4 version at least when you finish the arcade mode by filtering the global with the triangle, they show as number one place a ridiculous high score of 24.414 kills in the game, with a profile user named NGamer64 or i think NGarnrau64! How it is possible to achieve such high rare of kills since in an entire playthrough you can barely kill close to 1800+ mostly foot souldiers?! 🤔 Can someone shed light to this question of mine pls ppl?
I just don't like his slow movement speed. I'm starting to wonder if some of the 'tiering' in this game isn't compensation for the NES game, because Mike and Raph are considered excellent while Don is generally weaker.
Not every game needs to whacky woohoo crazy all the time, I welcome this game not being as insane as SOR4 because sometimes I just wanna dick around instead of trying to optinize everything.

It's been a long time since I played a TMNT game or a beat'em up game, this and SOR4 looks like good games to return to the genre
SoR4 is especially amazing. Imo the best in the genre ever.. or at least close to SoR2 .
SoR4 is amazing. Be sure to get the DLC too.
definitely! I really really like Shredder's Revenge, but SoR4 is a masterpiece
Check out River City Girls and its sequel coming out this summer, too.
