Don’t mean to talkdown the video or anything like that but the way you put your pads in is the wrong way. But understandable since thats the way the older ones were. In fact you sort of noticed something odd about it. The way the old ones were in, they were pushing them onto the rotor. That odd looking bracket was meant to push them out instead. Putting the one the way it showed in this video will cause premature rotor wrapped. So the pads needs to be slide in from out into the bracket.
You're absolutely right. good catch... I noticed that after rewatching it🤦♂️. luckily after driving it for 20+k. it hasn't seemed to cause any issues with the rotors getting hot and warping. but it definitely should have.
I'm changing the brakes on my 2016 Renegade this week and appreciate the reminder about the electric parking brake service mode... I am however quite surprised how torn up those rotors were at that milage. I am 88K miles and only now doing it's first brake service!
This will be my first pad slap. 2018 Rene with 117k. I'll tell ya the Mopar parts have lasted. Just finally needed a new battery last month. I appreciate all the detail in your video. Actually seeing the parts being removed gets my old memory working again. 😊
Hey, thanks for sharing the video. A few questions, I noticed that when you were putting everything back together you flashed 26 ft lbs as a torque setting. Im assuming that setting was used for the smaller bolts when dealing directly with the caliper. Is that correct? According to the service manual its 26 ft lbs for Front and Rear brake caliper to caliper adapter bolts. And it's 42 ft lbs for Brake caliper adapter to knuckle bolts (rear only.) On the other hand maybe I missed it but I didn't see the torque setting for the other set of bolts you screwed into place. To summerize can you just confirm that if the first set of bolts you tightened (before the rest of the caliper was added) was torqued to 42 ft lbs or 26 ft lbs?
Thanks for the video. I just replaced my front and rear rotors and pads. Any tips on getting new pads into place. I ended up cleaning and reusing old hardware because I couldn't get them in.
yes unfortunately i did mess that part up. the one comment on this post kinda explains it. but as long as you cleaned them and the old hardware was in good shape. you will be fine 👍
you can use a disc brake rewind caliper tool... you can find them online for like $20 for a kit. i had a square drive tool. part #28600. you can get online or at the local auto store
99% PERFECT Video. The retracting e-brake thing was helpful. But for all thise who don't know, you maybe should have showed how you put the pads in the clips for those who dont have an idea or never done it before. Outside of that, perfect.
technically a brake system is a closed system. so you really should never add any fluid.. if its low... you either have a leak.... or the pads/shoes are low and need looked at. what i do is take the lid off rhe reservoir and keep an eye on the level when i screw them back in. if its going to over flow then i would remove some.
Is it alright to switch off egnition on vechile whilst changing pads on rear disc . Then apply key for power will this disturb the electronic? Or do you leave power on whilst fitting pads and disc on rear. Thanks
That's a good question..... I left the power on just to be on the safe side.... as long as your battery is in good shape, you shouldn't have to worry about it dieing while you change out the pads.
I would say so.... but I'm not 100% sure on it. I would go into the the screen and make sure parking brake service is there and you're able to disable it. If you can then it's probably the same process.
Just for future reference you can use the brake service by using the touch screen menu and that will wind the electric hand brake of. When you have done your service just press brake pedal and it will reset itself all done. 😀
Lazrhamr. Bleeding brakes when installing new pads is highly recommended. This service is often not done which leads to corrosion inside the brake system and slight loss of braking. Over time water is absorbed by the brake fluid. Brakes should be bled every 2 to 3 years.
Ah that's a bummer. There's videos online with people unhooking the electric motor on the brake caliper, and then pushing the piston back in. But you'd have to do a little searching on them.
Me dealer wanted to charge me $1500 for breaks, rotors, and he said the Trailhawk has rear shoes? Mine is a 2017. Then wants $480 labor...lol Thanks for the video.
ah crap. im not sure! i havent seen that. did you try doing a reset.... just removing the negative battery cable for like 30 minutes. then put it back on??
haha its actually not bad. but be mindful on the brake pads. you can see the top comment about the metal tabs. i put mine in incorrectly.... they worked fine and we didnt have any issues.. but nonetheless they weren't correct.
Update: Just did mine finally with Duralast pads and rotors I hear a slight grinding only once in a awhile like in heavy snow but my passenger slide slider got stuck so when I replaced them I fixed that too so all good for the most part!
thats interesting. these are designed to be screwed back in, I know a lot of other vehicles can be pushed back in. im not sure how you got the c clamp to work haha
@CobraGarage10 oh no I haven't done it yet just with my past experience I've always used a c clamp so im gonna have to screw the pistons back in? Wtf I don't have a tool for that any tips man??? I'd appreciate the shit out of it and I have a garage full of tools!
haha actually its not bad. so 100% put the car into the service brake mode. once you have the brakes apart you can use the tool that i used in the video... they are dirt cheap. or a big screw driver... ive seen people use heavy duty needle nose pliers too. you just screw it back in. sometimes they screw im very easy.

This comment saved me. Thanks. It’s weird the front brakes don’t have that spring.
Good catch, jfc723. I came to the comments specifically to see if anyone else noticed that. Good eye, good knowledge.
Believe me, the way the clips are designed there is NO play between the pads. This is the easiest way to put the pads in and on the rotor.

Thanks for the video, I need to change the rear brake pads, and with this video it was perfect. Thanks from Chile
Thank u ! Excellent video- what the torque specs for the caliper bracket pls
Great video. Thank you for taking time to share your knowledge.
Thanks for the tutorial, hit everything needed for rear brake job. Great job editing and highlights 👍👍

Quick question, do you turn the ignition off ofter after activating service mode or do have to keep the power on...
That's a good question. I left it on just to be safe.
You can turn it off

Thank you! Would not of known of brake service mode!
What was the paste you use on before you put the rotor on
I usually just use anti seize.
What’s the tool you used to turn the caliper counter clockwise called also did you have to open the brake oil reservoir ?

Great video! Was wondering if any brake fluid should be removed before screwing back the rotor plunger?

What were the sizes of all the tools you used please
I have a 2016 Jeep Renegade Latitude....i need to change the rear brakepads, am I in the right video?
@@NicenessWins yupp. Should be the same design 👍
Great video. Well done.
I have a 2015 Renegade which I want to replace the rear B&R's on. Do you know if it's pretty much the same process to remove/reinstall?
I would say so.... but I'm not 100% sure on it. I would go into the the screen and make sure parking brake service is there and you're able to disable it. If you can then it's probably the same process.
Do you have to do anything with the electric brake piston after reinstalling the pads
nope. just doing what I did at the end with putting it back into normal mode on the dash.
Thx and thanks for the info great job
Oh, thats a nice video. Most important that the mechaniksman wears no gloves!! He is a really mechaniker.
Just for future reference you can use the brake service by using the touch screen menu and that will wind the electric hand brake of. When you have done your service just press brake pedal and it will reset itself all done. 😀
Could you put what the tool is for put the piston in on description
Will do!!
I have been spinning this piston for like 10 minutes, it does not stop
could you tell if the piston has gone back in at all yet?
What if you replaced your display system to an aftermarket one and can’t access the settings?? Help!
Oh man that's actually a good question! I'm not sure what the proper way would be to do that then!
what was that you put on the back of the rotor is it necessary?
It's just antisieze. You don't have to put it on, it just makes it easier down the road if you need to remove it 👍
Do the brakes need bled?
nope! not unless you take the brake lines off 👍
Lazrhamr. Bleeding brakes when installing new pads is highly recommended. This service is often not done which leads to corrosion inside the brake system and slight loss of braking. Over time water is absorbed by the brake fluid. Brakes should be bled every 2 to 3 years.

Very Nice💥🛠

Holy.....my gosh that's brutal!!
I have a 2016 Trailhawk, and it is disk/pads
And what if It goes in recovery mode???
im not super familiar with the recovery mode? whats popping up?
@@Simpsons.R.S i can't switch on the parking brake after put it in maintenance mode because It goes in recocery and i don't know why 🤦🏻♂️
