I'm really disappointed about the place that Eyes Wide Shut had in this list. It's a beautiful movie, and I don't really think that a lot of people are able to appreciate it on the level that it was meant to be.
Eros Exactly. Kubrick considered it his best work, and if you look at the incredibly subtle level of detail, it truly is his best film ever. Now, I love 2001 and would put it on the top of every list ever, but Eyes Wide Shut easily deserves to be in the top five, if not number 2. Many people discredit it because of direct sexual themes. Now sexuality is a powerful emotion. It takes a really objective mind to see through the distortion sexuality produces, and with the amount of sexuality that's present in Eyes Wide Shut, it's no wonder people don't look beyond the external aspects of the movie. I avoided Barry Lyndon for decades for fear that I would hate it, I finally saw it a month ago, and I think now it maybe my favorite. PS If you haven’t got Eyes Wide Shut in the Top 3 you’ve blown your credibility.
2001 just fills me with awe every time I see it. It amazes me that so many different people can watch the very same movie and come out of it having had such varied experiences.
2001 really is one of the best science fiction films ever made. Co-created by one of the best filmmakers of all time and one of the best SF authors of all time, its a masterpiece IMO. Re-making 2001 (as has been rumored) without Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C Clarke would be like re-painting the Mona Lisa without Leonardo Da Vinci. Full Metal Jacket is also an amazing film (the fact that R Lee Ermey had actually been a USMC drill instructor and brought his experiences to the film role helped with that I suspect)
+Kyle Simmons It is a Stanley Kubrick production. He didn't direct the film but he handed over the project to Steven Spielberg well before his death (about 7 years prior). And at the very end of the film, Spielberg added an additional credit that reads - "For Stanley Kubrick". It was quite touching.
Nameless Paladin I love A.I. on so many levels. It's a great story, great visuals and great performances. Some Kubrick alumni (Jan Harlan, etc.) were used or consulted for the film which gave it the flavor of a Kubrick film in some of the camera angles. It's time to dig the film out of my collection and watch it again. =)
+Nameless Paladin AI was a total MIND FUCK of a film! You could SEE it still had all the hall marks of Kubrik, with Spielberg's added sense of wonder to it. The ending was a total mind blower!
Steven Spielberg did a good job of capturing Kubrick's style. You can tell he was determined to honour his old friend and the ending was actually much darker than a lot of people give it credit for. One day. After that, Monica's dead and David will probably deactivate himself AKA commit suicide. I wish Kubrick was still alive. I learned about him through Nostalgia Critic and he makes most of the new generations directors, barring prodigies like Christopher Nolan, look like first year film students.
Gee -- he only made 13 films. So listing the top 10 is like listing the best 9 months of the year, or the 5 funniest dwarfs, or the 20 best Bond films, or the 40 best States to live in.
Not to mention, the 3 honorable mentions are just the last 3 Kubrick movies not on the list. Top 10 movies, 3 honorable mentions. He only made 13 films! Kinda dumb.
@@rustincohle2135 Also, the 3 honorable mentions happen to be Kubrick's first 3 films. This video could be titled "Top 10 of most recent 10 Stanley Kubrick Movies".
rocket dogge The pace is done deliberately, after watching the film 10 times I have no problem with its slowness. Solaris by Tarkovsky is slower by a wide margin.
I didn't like 2001 when I first watched it, but after rewatching it I can definitely say it's my favourite Kubrick. My top 5 Kubrick films I've seen: 1. 2001 A Space Odyssey 2. The Shining 3. Paths of Glory 4. Full Metal Jacket 5. Dr Strangelove
Lynch comes close but gets carried away in his imagination were as kubrick as a fine balance of imagination and storytelling. Lynch is good dont get me wrong, one of the top 10s but not the best. Kubrick will never be matched due to him setting the standard for deep, rich, plots.
Eyes Wide Shut will forever be his most overlooked. Excellent film, great dialogue and commentary on adulthood and midlife crisis. An under appreciated masterpiece. I'd have it #6 in my top 10. That just proves how great of a director he was and the quality of his work.
+William Love I also almost fell asleep the first time seeing 2001 - although now that I'm able to comprehend what is being shown on the screen, I consider it to be the greatest film ever made.
My ranking: 1. Paths of Glory 2. 2001: A Space odyssey 3. Dr. Strangelove 4. Full metal jacket 5. The Shining 6. Eyes wide shut 7. A Clockwork orange That's all I've seen. I will check out Spartacus and Barry Lyndon soon
I think I like all of his movies equally. Some require a more meditative state to enjoy...like Barry Lyndon or 2001...but they're all distinctly Kubrick. People seem to love him or hate him. He's not easy to be indifferent towards...I really love how he frames his shots...Just about every shot in Dr. Strangelove is like an art photo...and I just love the credit-less opening shots of The Shining...
I find it funny so many people don't like 2001: A Space Odyssey because of it's slow pace. In the times when it feels slow, you think harder and therefore see deeper. Watch the film again when you gain more brain cells please and then you will see why it's number 1.
Kubrick is will probably be my favorite director for the rest of my life. Such a game-changer in the way he moved his camera, to the incredible advancement of special effects, he's gonna be remembered forever in those regards as a master. btw I liked that the honorable mentions were also a nod to the rest of his filmography.

This is how I'd rank them. 10. The Killing 9. Spartacus 8. Paths of Glory 7. Dr Strangelove 6. Full Metal Jacket 5. The Shining 4. A Clockwork Orange 3. Eyes Wide Shut 2. Barry Lyndon 1. 2001: A Space Odyssey #Film #Kubrick #Cinema
1. A Clockwork Orange 2. Dr. Strangelove 3. 2001: A Space Odyssey 4. Paths Of Glory 5. Barry Lyndon I think his Top 3, no matter what order they are in, are pretty secure, while all others are more subject to opinion. I've always thought of Paths Of Glory as his forgotten masterpiece. It is dark, bleak, merciless, but reeks of passion and soul, all outlined by the singing at the end. Also, I find Barry Lyndon to be criminally underrated. I hear the talks about how long it is and how slow it moves, but I'm mesmerized by this movie and it's one of the greatest films I've ever seen.
My Top 10 Stanley Kubrick Movies: 10. Barry Lyndon 9. Paths of Glory 8. Fear and Desire 7. The Killing 6. 2001: A Space Odyssey 5. Spartacus 4. Full Metal Jacket 3. The Shining 2. A Clockwork Orange 1. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Dr Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 2.) Full Metal Jacket 3.) The Shining 4.) 2001: A Space Odyssey 5.) A Clockwork Orange I've seen others, Paths of Glory, Barry Lyndon, Spartacus, Eyes Wide Shut etc. and those are beautiful, amazing films, but these are my personal top 5.

I avoided Barry Lyndon for decades for fear that I would hate it, I finally saw it a month ago, and I think now it maybe my favorite. PS If you haven’t got Eyes Wide Shut in the Top 3 you’ve blown your credibility.
Barry Lyndon is #1
Definetly
Such a forgotten masterpiece.
2001 A Space Oddysey?
Homer Simpson Barry Lyndon?
2001 and Barry Lyndon are for me the best films of all the time.
2001 just fills me with awe every time I see it. It amazes me that so many different people can watch the very same movie and come out of it having had such varied experiences.
The Killing is one of the most underrated films ever, that movie should be a classic as Casablanca or Citizen Kane.
5.Full Metal Jacket
4.The Shinning
3.paths of glory
2.2001
1.A clockwork orange
Paths of Glory has the honor of being one of the few films that actually made me cry.
You mean THE best science fiction movie ever made.
Without a doubt, Stanley Kubrick was the greatest director ever to live.
Stanley Kubrick, the director of Directors....This man was unparalleled, a pure cinematic genius.
I wish he was still with us to make more fabulous movies! I cried when he died.
so did i stew fmj crew.
Barry Lyndon is soooo underrated. #1 & #2 are Barry Lyndon and 2001. I don't care about the order but those are his 2 best films.
+Nameless Paladin Ditto! Barry Lyndon and 2001 are his two best, and also two of the best films I've ever seen.
what about dr Strangelove?
Cor Tadew I would put it at #3.
Nameless Paladin I always see you in film videos, and notice your comments are super smart and educated.
Cor Tadew Well that's nice to hear.
I think that Kubrick's #1 was 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY. When Stanley and Arthur c Clark got together and created 2001, they made history!
It's a shame Kubrick didn't live to produce A.I. Artificial Intelligence.
Or 'Napoleon'.
Gee -- he only made 13 films. So listing the top 10 is like listing the best 9 months of the year, or the 5 funniest dwarfs, or the 20 best Bond films, or the 40 best States to live in.
oscar3eyes Yeah, but it’s watchmojo. What else could you expect?
Not to mention, the 3 honorable mentions are just the last 3 Kubrick movies not on the list. Top 10 movies, 3 honorable mentions. He only made 13 films! Kinda dumb.
@@rustincohle2135 Also, the 3 honorable mentions happen to be Kubrick's first 3 films. This video could be titled "Top 10 of most recent 10 Stanley Kubrick Movies".
He could have made 10 and you can still sort them from worst to best 🙄
Personally I would go with
1. Full Metal Jacket
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey
3. Clockwork Orange
4. The Shining
5. Sparticus
@Caleb Mbala 3 years too late, but welcome to the internet dude.
1. 2001
2. The Shining
3. Clockwork
4. Strangelove
5.Barry Lyndon
2001 is the greatest film ever made.
Interstellar.
Shammo Hamid I hope you are joking right?
+Shammo Hamid Interstellar basically is 2001, but nowhere near as complex and beautiful
the most boring
rocket dogge The pace is done deliberately, after watching the film 10 times I have no problem with its slowness. Solaris by Tarkovsky is slower by a wide margin.
I didn't like 2001 when I first watched it, but after rewatching it I can definitely say it's my favourite Kubrick.
My top 5 Kubrick films I've seen:
1. 2001 A Space Odyssey
2. The Shining
3. Paths of Glory
4. Full Metal Jacket
5. Dr Strangelove
you should check out a clockwork orange
***** Since writing my comment I have, actually. It was pretty great, I'd put it just under 2001.
alexf02071999 I personally prefer Clockwork Orange over 2001, but both are Awesome.
That's how I feel about the shinning
Alot of Kubrick films tend to grow on you, you don't really like it the first time around and then you start to grow to love it after the first time.
A Clockwork Orange is the Greatest movie of all time!
Certainly up there
2001
Keith Ode nope 2001 claims all
good call
I guess you guys haven't seen Barry Lyndon then because that's an unbelievably good film and far surpasses any other Kubrick movie INCLUDING 2001
#1 2001
#2 A Clockwork Orange
#3 The Shining
#4 Barry Lyndon
#5 Dr. Strangelove
#6 Paths of Glory
#7 FMJ
#8 Eyes Wide Shut
#9 Spartacus
#10 Lolita
probably the greatest artist ever
not probably certainly
Sorry, gonna have to disagree w/you guys. That honor goes to David Lynch.
Lynch comes close but gets carried away in his imagination were as kubrick as a fine balance of imagination and storytelling. Lynch is good dont get me wrong, one of the top 10s but not the best. Kubrick will never be matched due to him setting the standard for deep, rich, plots.
King Crimson?, of course!
No artist is the greatest and if anyone is its Fuckink MICHAELANGELO! you kidding me?... you know what he did?
Eyes Wide Shut will forever be his most overlooked. Excellent film, great dialogue and commentary on adulthood and midlife crisis. An under appreciated masterpiece. I'd have it #6 in my top 10. That just proves how great of a director he was and the quality of his work.
These rankings are typical, but let's be honest Barry Lyndon and Eyes Wide Shut are really #2 and #3
***** I'd probably say:
1: Barry Lyndon
2: Clockwork
3: Eyes Wide Shut
EWS was cool but I don't think I got it.
First time i watched 2001 a space odyessy i was blown away totally forgot about star wars b/c that movie is the best Sci-Fi movie of all time
2001= The most beautiful movie ever made.
2001= The DULLEST movie ever made!!
+William Love
I also almost fell asleep the first time seeing 2001 - although now that I'm able to comprehend what is being shown on the screen, I consider it to be the greatest film ever made.
Star Wars is overrated anyway nothing beats 2001 period.
1. 2001
2. A Clockwork Orange
3. The Shining
4. Dr Strangelove
5. Full metal jacket
Kubrick has been steady and delivered one masterpiece after another. I think all his movies are great.
It's a shame that many people don't like 2001. The first time I saw it, it was the most amazing film experience I've ever had.
AMEN!
That film is the star wars before star wars existed
The Shining was the first Kubrick film I ever saw and it will always be my favourite.
I've been waiting for this list my whole life. The Clockwork Orange impacted me more than anything in reality could.
me, also. I've even created a fictional band inspired by A Clockwork Orange called Fashionable Alex and wrote ten songs for 'them'.
My ranking:
1. Paths of Glory
2. 2001: A Space odyssey
3. Dr. Strangelove
4. Full metal jacket
5. The Shining
6. Eyes wide shut
7. A Clockwork orange
That's all I've seen.
I agree 100%
1) Clockwork Orange
2) 2001 A Space Odyssey
3) Fullmetal Jacket
4) Shining
5) Eyes Wide Shut

8) Paths of Glory
9) The Killing
10) Spartacus
Here's Johnny! Two of my favorites, The Shining & Clockwork Orange...Little bit of the old, in and out, eh laddies?
He's a director who's never made a bad movie. Simply amazing. Hell even my favorite director of all time Coppola shat out Jack.
In my opinion, this is how I would rank them:
10) Spartacus
9) Lolita
8) Full Metal Jacket
7) Paths of Glory
6) Barry Lyndon
5) Dr Strangelove
4) 2001: A Space Odyssey
3) Eyes Wide Shut

#Film #Kubrick #Cinema
Full Metal Jacket #6? Are you crazy?
Marcellus Wallace Not that I know of. Full Metal Jacket is a great movie, but I think the films in my Kubrick top 5 are better.
***** Eyes Wide Shut and Barry Lyndon to me are not better than Full Metal Jacket. But nevertheless, All those movies are great movies.
No Orson Wells - The Third Man. Or Touch of Evil. Concrete Jungle...
My bad didn't pay close attention to the list - just Stanley Kubrick. But, I agree - Full Metal Jacket #6? The Killing last?
1. A Clockwork Orange
2. Dr. Strangelove
3. 2001: A Space Odyssey
4. Paths Of Glory
5. Barry Lyndon
I think his Top 3, no matter what order they are in, are pretty secure, while all others are more subject to opinion.
My Top 10 Stanley Kubrick Movies:
10. Barry Lyndon
9. Paths of Glory
8. Fear and Desire
7. The Killing
6. 2001: A Space Odyssey
5. Spartacus
4. Full Metal Jacket
3. The Shining
2. A Clockwork Orange
1. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
The fact Eyes Wide Shut isnt on here is tragic its his best movie ever and it got him kiled by the elite for exposing the satanic rituals
Dr, Strangelove is probably my top 3 favorite movies of all time
1- a clockwork orange
2- 2001: a space odissey
3- barry lyndon
4- shining
5- full metal jacket
6- paths of glory
7- dr. strangelove
8- eyes wide shut
9- lolita
10- spartacus
+DEAD CHANNEL
I've tried 5 times to watch 2001, every time I get bored.
the first time that i watchted 2001 i was very bored and i thought that it was very overrated. but the second time that i watched hit, it became the my second fovorite movie of all time (the first is a clockwork orange)... so i think that it is a movie that you love or hate.
Il gatto nero I just find it so slow, I wanna love the film, but it's so difficult.
+Il gatto nero Where is 'The Killing'??
Anybody else think that Barry Lyndon was a little underrated, and should have at least been in the top three
I am agree
Wholeheartedly agreed.
1000%
Completely underrated.
It was overrated, not in the same class as the others.
Top of the lot, no debate about it.
Im sorry dave, but im afraid I cant do that.
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE--IS MY FAVOURITE MOVIE EVER!!!
swtiris alexopoulos too
I'm happy to see such love for Kubrick; it was evident that he put so much work into creating perfect results. If I were rating his films, my top 10 would be 2001, Barry Lyndon, Clockwork, The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, Dr Strangelove, Paths of Glory, The Killing, Lolita and Full Metal Jacket.
10. Lolita
9. The Killing
8. Full Metal Jacket
7. Paths of Glory
6. Dr Strangelove
5. The Shining
4. Eyes Wide Shut
3. Barry Lyndon
2. A Clockwork Orange
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
WHY DID YOU NOT PUT HIM ON ANY OF THE TOP 10 DIRECTORS LIST????????????
+Kevin Stankovic Calling him a director would be an insult, he is the greatest film maker of all time. he doesn't just direct
Your wish came true! Look up top 10 best directors of all time and Kubrick will be on there.
Nicholas Brady I agree. He wrote the scenario, he also became the cameraman, and all of the stuffs. He is filmmaker, not only director
Kevin Stankovic iii
Kevin Stankovic They put him at #1 on their top 10 directors of all time list
Kubrick films tend to grow on you, you don't like them the first time, but if you watch it again you'll eventually love it.
My top 5 Stanley Kubrick films are (in no particular order)
1.) Dr Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
2.) Full Metal Jacket
3.) The Shining
4.) 2001: A Space Odyssey
5.) A Clockwork Orange
I've seen others, Paths of Glory, Barry Lyndon, Spartacus, Eyes Wide Shut etc. and those are beautiful, amazing films, but these are my personal top 5.
MrDrawingboard1 I think Lolita would be an easy 6th for yours, but personally I'd have (disregarding the "no particular order"):
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. A Clockwork Orange
3. The Shining
4. Lolita
5. Dr. Strangelove
6. Full Metal Jacket
7. Paths of Glory
And the rest just kind of fill in in no particular order; they are great, but those 7 are my favorites in order.
Yeah, even Strangelove I didn't love the first time around. I had to see that film about 3 or 4 times to like it.
MrDrawingboard1 You took that line from Steven Spielberg.
I know Spielberg is on the same page as me, but I'm not taking any line from him or anything. When he give examples, I often hear him talking about The Shining.
It's just I agree with Spielberg, Kubrick films don't hit me the first time around. They don't seem to hit with many audiences the first time around either.
1. A Clockwork Orange (it's my favorite)
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey ( the best one, it's a real masterpiece)
3. The Shining
4. Eyes Wide Shut
5. Dr. Strangelove
6. Lolita
7. Full Metal Jacket
8. Barry Lyndon
9. Spartacus
10. Paths of Glory
2001: A Space Odyssey is my favourite film of all time.
+eclipsesonic i can tell by ur pic
+Armando Pérez i can tell that a clockwork orange is ur favourite movie
iTzAtaXi xDDDDDDDD
+eclipsesonic ME too dude ......
eclipsesonic
Q-Brick is Perfect... he never Did a Shitty or Bad movie ever!
Even though he's my biggest idol. I have a hard time defending Fear and Desire.
@James Bryan "Flying Padre" was an entertaining documentary short as was "Day of the Fight". However, "The Seafarers" is a boring as shit doc short.
Paths of glory is criminally underrated
Eyes wide shut is his best movie
Have you seen A Clockwork Orange?
Yes :)
I'd say that's his best, but I haven't seen one of his movies that I don't like.
Well we all have different opinions. not surprising that you like all his movie as he was perfectionist.
Clockwork was extremely graphic and violent Eyes Wide Shut was much better
5. Spartacus
4. Barry Lyndon
3. 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. A Clockwork Orange
1. Eyes Wide Shut
My Top 10:
1.) 2001: A Space Odyssey (10/10)
2.) A Clockwork Orange (10/10)
3.) Eyes Wide Shut (10/10)
4.) The Shining (10/10)

7.) Dr. Strangelove (10/10)
8.) Paths Of Glory (10/10)

What the fuck? How do you a top ten when he only has written and directed 11 movies?
It's called giving the audience what they want... top 10 Kubrick flicks was a very popular request.
And, FWIW, isn't there merit in ranking those flicks?
Rev0lutionIsMyName *13
Rev0lutionIsMyName but he's directed 16, which mean's there's 16 Kubrick films out there........
+Thurgor Supreme Because 11 is more than ten.
+Thurgor Supreme They also did a Top 10 David Lynch movies when he has only made 10 movies... No place for honorable mentions :P
Barry lyndon costumes are just wow! Natural lighting elevated the audiences attention.
Top 10 Stanley Kubrick movies ( in my opinion):-

They are all amazing but Eyes wide shut would deffo be one of my favs of his and is severely underrated
The Shining is #4? I thought it would be 2 or 3... Still my favorite Kubrick movie and favorite horror/thriller film.
