Using alligators would be vastly inaccurate, because their habitat is America (not yet discovered at the time) and China (too far away; in the Roman days the famous trade over the Silk Road had already been established, but not for livestock). Crocodiles were indeed used in the Colosseum, especially nile crocodiles imported from Egypt.
First thing, Gladiator movies aren't historical movies. It's fictional movies set in history, Second, Gladiator 2 is a cashgrab but a good watchable movie but not great though. Third, this sequel would never beat the first which is a masterpiece.
Amazing video watch mojo of the fact and fiction of gladiator 2,fantastic job. The co brothers emperors in the gladiators 2 trailer and films reminds of the same kind of plot of the man in the iron mask that had two twins kings in there too.
For those in the comments saying Berbers aren’t black, please know that berbers feature a wide variety of skin tones. From quite brown skinned like me to fair. Ah yes, Gladiator 2: the hill history buffs will die on. Because obviously Ridley Scott set out to make a perfect Roman documentary, right? Never mind the battles, sharks in a flooded colosseum, underworld visits-let’s obsess over inaccurate sandals and whether Macrinus was actually black. 🥸 Here’s a thought: it’s a movie. If you take real historical people and put them in a fictional story, is just stupid and disrespectful. Use fictional characters if you want to make a movie with fictional story and events. Otherwise you make people without a passion to history belive wrong things and also make history buffs people lose their mind. Gladiator ll is so bad it was very difficult for me to stay and watch till the end. I felt insulted. And tbh, I have no ideea why they decided to do this since the real story is by far more interesting. Plus, there are so many interesting REAL stories about REAL gladiators that they dont need to and nothing to script.

SPOILER this was the only movie that set up a huge battle finale, only for the 2 armies to decide "eh never mind." i get why it didn't happen, but interesting decision after the fact to pan out and show us how many soldiers would have fought that day, and it just left me disappointed. A little too much yapping throughout the movie as well, majorly affecting the pacing, but the fight scenes that did happen were awesome. I enjoyed the movie overall, but not even close to the masterpiece the 1st one is to this day.
People who have a problem with historical inaccuracies of Gladiator II and claim to love Gladiator 1 are kinda hypocritical. Maixmus isn't even a real historical person, completely fictional.
not sure why this movie is getting so much historical inaccuracy hate. At no point does it say "based on a true story" so who cares, just enjoy it for what it is. A fun Hollywood epic! I personally don't think they make them like these anymore so I was stoked when I watched it. It will never beat the first one, and nothing ever could, but its a dam good sequel and follow up! and I'm definitely not watching this movie for its historical accuracy.
"Those people clearly did not do their homework." The same could be said about them, when they criticized Assassins Creed shadows, featuring a black Samurai, named Yazuke. Yazuke, was a real person, who served the emporer of Japan.
But he wasn’t doing anything like a samurai would, I get it you’ve seen an article saying he was one and went with it. He’s not named in the dyimiko which lists all samurai under command. He was samurai in name only, a cook could be classed as a samurai. Stop romanticising his life he was basically a slave. Oda kept him because he was intrigued by Yasukes stature and skin colour. He didn’t commit seppuku when Oda did, he ran to Nobunaga Jr and still didn’t do it when he was captured. A samurai in that situation is not getting captured. They commit seppuku. He got sold again. He wasn’t an actual samurai no matter how you sugar coat it.

Part 1, leaps and bounds better than part 2
In the new TV Those About to Die salute you, set in 73 AD and they showed a very 2 to 3 feet deep… very shallow and used alligators

I’ve met many who are my skin complexion in both Morocco and Tunisia. This is quite similar to black people in the US, as our heritage is quite mixed, leading to a wide variety of skin tones. Ultimately…it will never cease to amaze me how much stuff like this works folks up lol
Right , basically its like they forget where life began and black people only appear when it came to slavery …smh
People in modern day north africa are mixed with Black africans unlike those from before the Islamic era. Egyptians and greeks have images from Lybians and other north africans looking with the same skin tone as the greeks.
@@mechelle230 You forgot the Arabs also had slaves, mostly from Europe but also from Africa and some were black. Even today arabs have some black ancestry because of the black slaves in their harem.
I know you’re an American saying this, NO, no they are not. It was well established what a Berber was and they were never viewed as Subsaharan Africans.
@@artair70 I'm Brazilian and they were never said be be Subsaharan Africans. Heracles fighting the giant lybian with light skin and straight hair is so iconic.
Geta and Caracalla also have North African origins their father Severus was from Libya and their mother Julia was Syrian
And Macrinus was of Berber and Punic origins he was for sure not a British but not black as Denzel he was simply like modern northern Algerian.
Some Berbers were and are still as dark as Denzel
@@apogeelord7013Yes, Berbers nowadays are, Macrinus was not.
How is that even important in the context of the movie?
@@acoustic5738 because they are using real historical people. If they made a fictional empire with fictional people it didn't matter. But if you put your movie in a historical time period with historical people, you need to portray the history correctly.
@@pietervangorp267 so you want a documentary, not a movie...
@watchmojo you guys should do a count down of the oldest country's in the world
Tunisian and Libyan are not black. It’s literally 5 seconds to look up what Tunisia looks like
I'm african myself and I have seen many black Tunisians and Lybians. Not all north Africans are light skinned
There are many blacks in France and Germany as well. Doesn’t make them French and German
@@kadiatukallon3542 Immigrants and their descendants. Many who failed to go to Europe or lived close still live in North Africa.

Assassin's creed Odyssey brought me here 😊 for some reason
Berbers aren’t black though.
He would have been North African. Not Sub-Saharan.
He’s have looked like a Sicilian or any other Mediterranean. Like…. An Algerian.
I have written books in the genre of historical fantasy and my books were based on real history with a keen eye on accuracy but even I have taken many many creative liberties so I can’t judge the film for this at all.
Here’s a thought: it’s a movie. Not a history lesson. If you’re looking for realism, read a textbook. Otherwise, sit back, enjoy the chaos, and stop expecting Russell Crowe’s ghost to care about your petty American racial concerns
Thats caucasian americans for you. Always in a uproar over the petties stuff
great film even if it was largely fiction. at least we saw caracalla murder geta and macrinus rise to power. those were close to real events even if they were presented in a more fiction way. i only hope we see now in part 3 elagabalus' transgender loatki emperors' reign and how lucius ended his reign so that his saint brother alexander severus ascended the throne just 4 years after elagavalus' rise to power.
So I didn't care if denzel character is black. Real macrinus is from Africa but that didn't really bother me. But after watching this. I did some research. Turns out. He is from Africa but also not black. So naturally watch mojo a woke channel would put him as black. Again I didn't care denzel played him cos he was awesome but this is very much like cleopatra show. Making ppl black even when it's not true. Do they have a video on cleopatra. Bet they would say cleo is black too
Cleopatra is European but the thing is black people built the pyramids and egyptians civilisation
And with cleopatra herself is not a descendant of the pharaohs she became a pharaoh through colonisation
@@RaymondArthur73 "Black people"? No they were not. Every DNA test from Egyptian mumies showed them as mostly natufian, a people from levant. They used to eat bread and Beer, that was invented in the levant, today Leabon and Israel. Only people in the middle east knew how to make bread until the middle ages.
@@paulodelima5705 Wrong because the egyptians painted themselves in darker shade and nuftians u are talking about are not levantine cuz they resemble people of darker
@@RaymondArthur73 Egyptians painted themselves in the same shade as modern Arabs. You have the bust of Nefertiti, an Egyptian queen. She does not look like all the nubians or any modern black african.
Nuftians's DNA was tested. You can pay $50,00 to known how close related you are to them but also Ancient greeks, ancient egyptians, Romans and even the biblic Philistines.

They are not related to them and even the bible talks about ham which dark-skinned people including the ancient egyptians, cannites, cush etc
Oh yeah.. they all was men and women of color... Black to be as actually
Sharks in real collosseum? Yes or no
Sharks need to continue to swim or they drown. There's no way they could have sharks there.
They could have used crocs. I don't know why we didn't do that lol. That would work. You can store a Croc in a box. Feed it chicken. Boom. Delivered to the arena.
lol from the clips Denzel looks out of place in this movie. Looks like he’s still the same character in all his movies smh

I watched it and liked it ❤
@oliverlannister2869 good for you! and the studio - seems like lot! So perhaps after a few shots of tequila?
How would you know it’s unbearable to watch if you havent seen it??
Sorry, but I'll skip this one. Loved the first too well.
I haven't watched this. 🎉
Dialog was terrible
Dark skinned is not black!!
I love Denzel, but this is not historicaly correct.
Hello good afternoon ❤❤❤
Its a movie not a documentary. Was never a maximus. Wtf people. Got a world of information within you fingertips. Rather be lazy an let someone else tell you😅
yes there was a person called maximus
@jimbo9208 you're that guy and the sad part you've never been punched in the face
@jimbo9208 I remember that he had a wife.
Hey this is just a comparison not criticizing the movie.Chill out.
Well I do talk about him in my meditations
I agree them throwing in the sharks in the movie made it unrealistic lmao. But overall it was a good movie.
Is Gladiator 2 a good movie, yes. Is it better then the first movie, no. Is it the best movie in cinemas right now, yes.
It’s a movie! It is entertainment! Get over your pompous wannabe historian asses, and eat your popcorn like a good movie goer.
MODERN HISTORIANS HAHAHAHAH
Also nobody complains that the Romans are speaking English. But they make one character black and all of a sudden the world shuts down.
Just shut up and see that it’s a movie. Not a documentary. Oh, by the way, the Romans didn’t have sharks during enacted sea battles in the Colosseum.
Nobody complains that an irish man is playing an italian.
SPOILER
this was the only movie that set up a huge battle finale, only for the 2 armies to decide "eh never mind." i get why it didn't happen, but interesting decision after the fact to pan out and show us how many soldiers would have fought that day, and it just left me disappointed. A little too much yapping throughout the movie as well, majorly affecting the pacing, but the fight scenes that did happen were awesome. I enjoyed the movie overall, but not even close to the masterpiece the 1st one is to this day.
Its a good movie and it does what movies use to do: entertain. I really likes it.
People who have a problem with historical inaccuracies of Gladiator II and claim to love Gladiator 1 are kinda hypocritical. Maixmus isn't even a real historical person, completely fictional.
but hes very appropriate fiction character. that make sense in the world he lives.

not sure why this movie is getting so much historical inaccuracy hate.
"Those people clearly did not do their homework."
The same could be said about them, when they criticized Assassins Creed shadows, featuring a black Samurai, named Yazuke.
Real? Most likely, as there’s only ever 2 recorded lines of him ever but the Samurai claims? Certainly not.
He was black live with it lol
