even if everyone were lawyers, doctors or engineers
we still need farmers, delivery, street cleaners, etc...
    so as Syndrome said
    - *If everyone has a college degree, no one does!*

Well they still do. And that's the problem.
An accountant should make a great farmer, though. Or businessman. What do a lot of tradesmen struggle with? Finance.
Also, we don't need that many farmers. We might develop other styles of agriculture that require more farmers, but right now we only need a miniscule amount of people to run the machines that do the planting and harvesting.

@@iivin4233 I think i've seen reports that China needs more tradesmen. I think I heard in the past few years that the government was starting initiatives and even Xi Jingping had made comments to try to get young people to choose a trade instead of university because of a shortage of people in trades.

@@707Berto Yeah, I said that in another comment. At least in America (and other countries like it) if you can't get a job with your phd, you can learn a trade and make as much or more than your dream job... Unfortunately, I don't think it's true in China. I might have misunderstood the comment I replied to. It seemed to imply to me that part of the problem is that they don't need more farmers and tradesmen.

Interesting - but are degrees actually *worth* anything anymore? I just read a report here in Australia where international students who can barely speak English are getting degrees via using a combo of Chat GPT and translation apps. The Universities will not fail these students because they are a massive cash cow. You have to ask - what is the quality of the education received? Are the degrees worth the paper they are printed on?

Not whataboutism but I think we're getting there in the USA as well. We also need more people in trades, and I know a lot of people with STEM degrees that can't find work.
I would say the only benefit to being in America is that you don't have to work at McDonald's if you're willing to work. You can go back to school and learn a trade. You might be a plumber with a PhD, but you can make good money. I don't think that's true of trades in China. Plumbing in China is very poorly done, perhaps because everyone thinks they're a plumber. For example, one thing I saw everywhere and it often made hotels stink from sewer gases escaping the sinks, is the lack of p traps. if a trap in China is used at all, it's always an S trap, and countries like the USA phased those out a long time ago. I don't think plumbers in China get any respect or the wages they deserve (or would deserve if they did the jobs properly).

      - With stimulus and measures, China's debt will be at 400% to 500% of its GDP in the next decade, according to Reuters.
-Chinese 🇨🇳 property Ponzi sector, which accounts for 30% of GDP, is crashing
-Tofu Exports and Western imports, accounting for 37% GDP, are down.
-Foreign investment is falling over 90% compared to it's peak in 2018.
-Foreign visitors are down 96% compared to the pre-pandemic level in 2019 with less than 200 americans left.
-Consumer prices and pay are experiencing hyperstagdeflation while necessities are undergoing hyper flation.
-Youth unemployment hits over 21% (in reality 75%+ after eliminating faked numbers), a record.
-It's fast shrinking workforce is 10 years old than neighboring countries.
      - During the years 1990-2021, the US printed 6.5 time more money while China printed 147 times.
      - It has printed more money than the US and Japan combined, while it's economy is only half of them.
      - Current Chinese debt-to-gdp is already highest in the world, at 300%, according to Bloomberg.
      - This is a macroeconomic nightmare created by the party going way back in 1994 when they took the Tofu money off the international exchange. Now in 2024, the banks and the average little pink have no idea what is the ACTUAL value of anything within the country. Any stimulus from the Central state. will be meaningless and ineffectual because the Central Bank is a part of the Party. Thereby merging both fiscal Central and monetary private policies into one ongoing disaster. Local province officials were doing stimulus spending for decades in tandem of the "Economic Miracle" which will undermine any Central stimulus during an actual depression/recession or more accurately.. HYPERSTAGDEFLATIONARY NIGHTMARE.
-- in the future house prices will drop to 10%, youth unemployment will be over 90%+ without streams, and middle class people over 35 will all be laid off with pays trimmed in half.
How will you do in a country where real estate companies, local governments, and banks across China have crashed or fled? That is your challenge for the future (will you own a trash house with the mortgage?). Pensions will be laundered and your daily pay will be 1-2 dollars while you drink Poop Water and eat gasoline cooking oil while the Party and Porkpooh eat Tegong Special food supplies.

Is the quality of these higher degrees poor? probably, but
I think shows how many Chinese people there are in university, and how bad the labor market is that so many people can't find a job with an undergraduate degree that they have to continue on and get their master's. Keep in mind that the culture and kinds of labor is different in China, and so these degrees provide what's necessary for that market. Even students from universities in other countries are having trouble standing out because (probably) the labor market is so bad, and Chinese companies don't require the better education that a foreign graduate might have received. Unless it's in semiconductors I suppose.

Most of the time, they never really applied what they learned or practiced what they studied, all they did was study, do homework/exams, and/or partied; which is all fine and dandy, especially when American boomers did the same but were handed jobs on a silver platter, even with no work experience, but today's economy have different set of standards and demands; not to mention, they're using computers/automated systems to sift through potential candidates due to their ineptitude and laziness to find gold amidst the dirt. All these degrees, but I have to wonder how smart they are? Over and over it’s the same crap, just different generation, I think the smart ones leave China, if they can. The Chinese experience is pretty much just in China, life is not like this everywhere.

If you are going to use pictures of 'mouse heads' or 'rats' you'd better stop blurring them out else we will assume you are just bullshitting everyone.

If you think a piece of paper will guarantee a high paying job, you are delusional. Well, unless that piece of paper is cash.

But they're all temu certificates and qualifications anyway. A lot have been bought via bribes to education officials, or cheating exams, so they're not worth jack! So shut-up with your complaining and go deliver that food.!

Degrees do not necessarily guarantee white-collar jobs in any nation. Being delivery workers are not egregious but is just a sheer waste of resources.
