In my own experience kittens need a lot of play with a variety of challenges. Or they invent fun things to do- like swinging on your curtains! lol. He is a real cutie! Love his name. Great to see you! Luck and Love !!
Give it time for sure! I had an adult male cat, who was soooo friendly and I was so sure he would love a companion because he was so sweet. And so I did it, I adopted a kitten who was full of energy! I put the kitten in the bathroom with the door open and put a baby gate to avoid him getting out so my older cat could still observe him without feeling like he had his whole territory taken away. Slowly I started letting the kitten roam without supervision and they eventually bumped into each other and would just stare, there was some hissing but nothing too crazy. Days later, they became best friends! When one is missing the other meows until he finds his brother, then bathe each other, wrestle and nap together. I thought my kitten had toooooo much energy for me but trust me, it’s just a phase. They grow out of it and eventually will be just as mellow as the older ones. Give it time, best of luck! I hope they have adjusted to each other. It will take time for Nala to adjust feeling she's being invaded. If you had two kittens, it would have been easier, because they haven't developed that territorial instinct. She'll come around, and even start playing with your new kitten when he gets to the point of playing with her. Putting a light neutral scent on them both will help also. I'm sure they are playing with each other and chasing each other around your new place!we brought home our cat vixen when she was 5 months old, and our lab mix decided to treat her like a rag doll within the first week she was home. So she stays in my room unless I'm home, then she follows me out to where ever I am. 4 years later though, if Ally is inside and catches wind of her bell on her collar, she's alert as can be even if she looks like she's sleeping, I'll see her ears twitch and hunches shift until she deems the monent fit enough to spook her back into my bedroom. We got Ally when she was a year old, and we believe she was abused because she cowers to my husband, and as our son has grown and gotten bigger she's started doing the same thing if he puts a broom or mop or anything stick like in his hands. For 3 years it was just our 3 pups, then my mom passed away and five months later I felt the need for a comfort animal. A cat to be specific, not really sure why. So after 3 weeks of searching smelters and rescue websites all over the surrounding counties I went to Petsmart and asked if I could see one of the 2 kittens in one of the cubes. She opened the door when I went behind the wall amd the first one jumped out and ran (he was the one I wanted). Then Vex(vex didnt suit her imo, so I changed it to vixen, and boy does it suit her till this day!) jumped out and came right over to me. I called my fiance, told him to bring the kids over that I found her, (well she found me) and we needed to buy her supplies. I'm so glad I didn't give up searching because she's not only my pet(and yes, out of the 5 of us, she may wander to someone every now and then, but everyone will tell you she's mine) she's really become my emotional support buddy over the years while grieving and going through intensive and outpatient therapy. I've thought about getting a companion for her, but she seems to do well when no one is home during the day. If I could just get out of doing the catbox though 🤢 I haven't found an affordable easy solution to manual cleaning yet! Still trying to solve the hunting solution with our Ally too. Shes 8, so I wonder if its too late to train her to change her ways.
She's just showing the baby who's boss. He will learn that she is queen, and hopefully learn from her. In a normal introduction, I'd keep baby in his own area so they can smell and hear, but not interact except for paws under doors etc. But eventually....they'll settle into a "family", however that will look.
Lol exactly. And I hope so!! It’s weird because I think she’s interested in him and likes watching him play but hisses if he gets too close! They sleep in separate rooms but during the day we kinda let’s them roam the house. I think we should buy a gate to allow them to smell each other.
