- Hey guys I tried to make this video a while ago but never got around to finish it but we finally compared the 2018 ZL1 to the 2019 ZL1 1LE. Definitely more of a difference between the auto and the manual but enjoy the video!! Let me know what you prefer! ZL1 or ZL1 1LE??

1st off shes badass for having a ZL1 and having it in manual even though shes not really the best driver, still badass. 2nd this dude looks like jake gyllenhaal in end of watch. 3rd, i would definitely get the manual too, might be a bit slower but its so much more engaging and fun driving stick 1000% of the time.

Nobody in these comments should ever refer to a non 1le as a " base model". Save that for a far less prolific car please.

I have a 1LE ZL1 and here's what I can tell you. They are essentially the same car save for a few things I've seen. The 1LE is a FAR STIFFER RIDE than the strandard fare ZL1. Powertrain is essentially identical so engine/transmission choice doesn't really affect what you get other than your personal preference. Mine is a stick tho I doubt I could shift faster than the auto I just like knowing what gear i'm gonna be in no matter what on a race track. However going back to the suspension the DSSV shocks on the 1LE provide a LOT more cornering ability than the standard ZL1. Also the brakes on the 1LE version are far superior to the standard ZL1. It's pick your poison. I'm a car guy thru and thru and I don't even know if I could endure the 1LE as a daily driver... But the ZL1 i could any day of the week. My personal opinion. great video man!
So your competition of roll racing doesn't take into account a few things that are the ZL1 1LE's strong point. The 1LE version will drag that normal ZL1 around Willow Springs, or Laguna Seca because of the suspension and the brakes. Being able to enter corners faster and hold corners fasters WHILE still having the same powerplant is what will make the ZL1 1LE the faster car. A drag race between these two will always be won by the Automatic car unless there is a BIG disparity in power between vehicles..... And also tell the owner of the white ZL1, shes cute as fuck.... :) Sorry if that's one of ya'll's girlfriends.... if she is yall doing good... LMAO

RAY ROMANICK yeah the 1LE package just makes it a bit too much for EVERY day driving. But the 1LE will drag the normal ZL1 around a road course any day of week.

tblack21 you won’t be disappointed man. The 1LE is a rocket ship and so is the normal ZL1. The 1LE Version just corners and stops a bit better. That’s it. Lol

Every car i have ever owned has been manual cars. After driving the A10, I will never buy a manual again. Not shifting, replacing clutches was so old for me.

As a 6MT 1LE owner, the 1LE is away superior on back roads and the track. It feels buttoned down and ready for the attack all the time. It's of course a road course warrior that takes no prisoners. The ZL1 is also good but more of a compromise which helps on the street.

Magnaride is better for daily roads I’d say because of the bumps and what not. The 1LE feels like it wants to throw me out of my seat over any little pebble 😂 I mean I love it but that’s my answer

@Michael Cass If someone bought a 1le just to race in a straight line, they should’ve just got a zl1 with the a10 like you did. Only reason I feel like people should get a 1le is if they like to take the car on curvy back roads or stretch the cars legs on a straight away every now and then. Otherwise for daily driving, drag and roll racing, the a10 zl1 (not 1le) is the better and cheaper choice. Can’t out shift these newer transmissions nowadays.
More fun to more to hit the checkered flag first than having fun trying to get there.
On the stock car when you go over the red line you hit the fuel cut off it’s a safety net

It’s so interesting watching the evolution of tech... I remember when manuals were faster. I also remember when fuel injection was absolute garbage compared to a carburetor.
Base model V8 camaros running 12s, top of the line factory mustangs running 10s out the box.
The used car market is going to be an absolute PARADISE 10 years from now.
I raced my zl1 against my buddies zl1 1le. Having an A10 vs the manual i put about 2.5 cars on the manual 1le. Also, the 1le is 65lbs lighter. For racing, the a10 is faster.
The dive planes and wing on the 1le also add a lot of drag.

Just like to say that my fiance is probably getting a porche and not the the 1LE 😮 Lol ! But I wanted to mention on your small video when you was driving the 1LE against the guy Only reason why it wasn't close was because you was shifting too fast instead of letting the RPM's get up to the power point to shift and that race would be even closer. And with running against your lady that the safest way to roll race her 1LE is from 40 to 50 roll to do on 3rd gear because is just going to spin on her! Not like I'm a pro but I had mine long enough to learn the power points..... Just my opinion brother!
Negrón 24 surprisingly the 1LE didn’t spin at all from second for me 🤷🏼♂️ and definitely always room for improvement on shifting!

@@rayromanick a black car is a 2nd job. I had a black corvette and 10 minutes after a full detail, it was filthy again. nothing meaner than a black car, just too much work. I have a krypton green zl1 and whenever I stop to get gas (which is all the time) - people ask me if I had it painted that color. It sure puts a smile on their faces.

The zl1 with the A10 trans is faster than the manual trans. Now, you can get a 1le with the A10 and the 1le is 65lbs lighter than the standard zl1.
There is no big difference between two cars, it depends on drivers and reaction.

ZL1 ILE for the damn dub
I have a 2018 zl1 1le axle back exhaust and a roto fab intake (6M/T) I have a friend who has a 2018 10a/t no mods. From 50-60 roll I beat him every time in my 1le. I know the intake is probably helping a little. But sport mode tc off and flat shifting I pull on him in every gear. The 1le from the factory is lighter and has less power train loss being manual vs the tq converter on the auto soaking up some hp. No doubt at all from a dig his 10speed is faster but on the freeway starting at 50-60mph second gear in the 1le I win every time. We’ll see if the results change after he gets an intake and maybe axle back, just wanted to share my experience with the 2 cars also. Good video
yeah totally agree with you there! on the dyno my 10 Spd lost so much whp. before the tune it pull 520 something then 571 with the headers. the manual 1LE feels a little lighter and faster when I drive it too. Now I just need even more power in my auto haha
Not my experience. Maybe something “magical” about the 1le or maybe something wrong with your friends car? I doubt the intake makes that much of a difference..
I have a 19’ zl1 a10 and my brother has a 17’ non 1le zl1 manual and from a 50-60 roll I walk away slowly every time with him wot shifting. Same result every time when we switch drivers. Mine also traps 2mph in the 1/4 and 2-3 mph faster in the 1/2 mile, same day and track. I believe there is a 50 lbs weight difference between the a10 and m6 and an additional 50lbs lighter for the 1le. We are both stock. The manual dynos around 20 more hp to the wheels but the a10 keeps you in the powerband better with faster shifts.
It’s funny I prefer the manual and my brother the a10. We’ve talked about trading but he’s too upside-down on his and mine is newer/worth more..
Ben Jake I think the zle is 68 lbs lighter then a standard zl1. Also some of that is in the wheels I think about 20lbs less rolling resistance. Plus I do have an intake my budding doesn’t which one these cars run in open loop leans them out a little and adds power. Probably the difference right there. Also to note, flat foot shifting is slower in the manual trans not sure why but the car is quicker via dragy when I back of throttle slightly and bang gears vs stay floored and bang them.

My brother and I both have zl1’s, mine is a10 and his is m6. We had ours dynoed (dynojet)same day same dyno same gas and conditions. Mine made 531 rwh and my brothers made 544rwh... not that big of a difference 🤷♂️

The 6th Gen ZL1 manual has a computer aided No Lift Shift feature. Learn how to use it and advantage of the auto is greatly reduced

The wing and front dive planes on the 1Le add a lot of drag and slow it down. But adds up to 300 lbs of down force for the track.

More of a connecting driving experience. I will say the zl1 is more drivable.
No way automatic all day buddy. It's not humanly possible to shift gears in a Manual transmission that fast that a automatic can do. Your girl there has no clue how to drive either car all she knows what to do is wear those black tights. Give her a civic buddy!!

ZL1 1LE 10 Speed 10L90 will smoke your regular slow Turtle ZL1 with half gas of pedal

@@rayromanick The 10-speed automatic transmission is programmed with a special Track Mode shift pattern that will command upshifts at higher engine rpm, and will rev match all downshifts when coasting to a stop. This shift pattern is different than the regular ZL1. Upshifts will typically occur around 3,000 rpm, and downshifts will be commanded around 2,000 rpm under normal driving conditions.
While driving in Track Mode or Sport Mode (Fig. 2), if tap shift has not been activated, the transmission may remain in a gear longer than it would in the normal driving mode based on throttle input and vehicle lateral acceleration. If there is a rapid reduction in throttle from a heavy throttle position at high rpm, the transmission will maintain the current gear up to near redline rpm. While braking, the transmission will automatically downshift to the next lower gear, keeping engine speed above approximately 3,000 rpm. If the vehicle is then driven for a short time at a steady speed, without high cornering loads, the transmission will upshift one gear at a time until 10th gear is reached. After shifting to 10th gear, or coming to a complete stop, the transmission will return to normal Sport Mode shifting.
TIP: Manually shifting (or tap-shifting) the automatic transmission during track events can lead to slower track times and may induce higher transmission temperatures.🤫🚀
Lol. 1LE gear ratios are good for the track, not for roll racing. Honestly I would put my money on a ZL1 over a ZLE in a roll race 99% of the time.
