I feel like regression is normal while improving. She's clearly trying to implement new mechanics in her gameplay but when the new options are unlocked she has to relearn when she can do them appropriately. That'll come with time so I think regression shows that she's thinking differently

Definitely agreed. I don't have any stats, but I would wager that bouncing between diamond and plat is the most common regression people experience. It just feels so easy to get so many bad games in a row for any number of reasons, and you just gotta do what you can to rank back up.

Started applying it to my comp games and regressed to D2 because I was too slow with it. After a while I slowly integrated air dribbling, instead of forcing this new mechanic, and I'm back at Champ

On the regression - A big one for me when I was ranking up was imposter syndrome. Every time I got to a new rank, I felt like I didn't belong there and that others were a lot better and more experienced. I am only champ 2 for the last 6 months or so. But I have only just started to feel like champ 2 in my own mind recently and it is allowing me to push up toward c3. Before that, I would try to only play 2s when I was feeling very very confident (which meant I just didn't play much 2s) and I stuck to 1s so as to not mess up anyone else's game any other time.
Also, when I started to try to control the ball more then just go fast I also experienced a regression. It is hard to control the ball, and sometimes when you aren't playing your best you just end up playing slow. I actually still often try to find a good balance between control and speed, because I can't control very well at top speed.

      Strategy
Due to their high numbers and overall very high DPS, the Skeleton Army is very effective against single target enemy troops and building-targeting troops such as the P.E.K.K.A., Prince or Giant.
Another benefit is the Skeleton Army's low cost of 3 Elixir, making it a very versatile card that can give the player an Elixir advantage in almost any case.
Although they have low health individually, their sheer numbers allow for them to be effective at blocking most troops and siege buildings. This can even work for air troops, such as the Inferno Dragon due to the fact that the Skeleton Army can stall and pull the Inferno Dragon away from the tower, giving the tower a chance to destroy the Inferno Dragon.

As a fairly new diamond I think what helped me get out of plat for the first time was recoveries and movement. I could tell that even the difference between the diamond lobbies and the plat lobbies in terms of movement and awareness was huge. Being able to move around the field efficiently while saving enough boost for when needed is a very valuable skill for these ranks, and so is playing with teammates and knowing where they are on the field. What helped me the most for this was learning half flips and wave dashes, and possible off-wall wave dashes too (but i learnt those in diamond). For awareness making use of the right stick for camera was really helpful and allowed me to play around and with teammates, rather than against them. Also by the time we reach diamond 2, most people can sort of speed flip and while it's not essential, you win a lot of kickoffs and rotate a lot faster if you can do it.

A great way of training hitting the ball harder and more confident. Go into freeplay, hold boost the entire time and hit the ball as hard as you can, learn the bounce timing to boom the ball. After a while you can implent the powerslide. This helped me a lot!

  • @kiiturii
    @kiiturii Год назад

I've found the largest reason for regression after learning new things is that you're trying to go for all those new things you've learned without applying them properly, even if you can do them in free-play, it takes time to learn how they should be implemented into real gameplay, which is why new stuff will mess you up pretty bad and likely see you regress in rank until you get a hang of everything again and get a big boost in rank, beating your peak most likely
what made me really notice this was after coming back from a big break (like a year) I played so simple and only did things I was confident about, I won a lot and felt like I never left, but then like the next day after doing freeplay and watching guide videos again I felt soooo bad and went on a big loss streak, I just couldn't hit anything I was going for

I think the Champ training should be put on the back burner for a while, she might be focusing on those things more than the basics. You were raving about her positioning and rotations but honestly she’s making simple rotation mistakes she’s constantly under the ball in awkward positions she’s going super slow and not rotating wide enough, she can have bad teammates but to get out of platinum and low-mid diamond you gotta anticipate your teammates mistakes.

    • @CBellRL
      @CBellRL  Год назад

100% agree on slowing things down a bit. I guess I meant her offensive positioning is good, most of the time. But defensively she’s far behind. The under the ball thing we address in a recording that is already done but not edited. Good eyes though!

    • @alecahrens1671
      @alecahrens1671 Год назад

to add onto that, i think overall defensively she tends to play the best case scenario instead of the worst case scenario which can put her in bad spots when her teammates do something unexpected, which is going to be a lot in the diamond area. She has made some great improvement though love watching it :)

  • @doublemode4088
    @doublemode4088 Год назад +1

As someone who is from Plat as well, I can say that whenever I feel like I’m panicking in a situation, I always like to go “backpost”. This helps me since no matter where the opponent shoots, I can be ready to save whatever shot comes my way.

    • @doublemode4088
      @doublemode4088 Год назад

I would say on the goal she conceded she tried to cut the ball aggressively in her corner in a panic rather than taking the back post rotation. Common diamond mistake on defense my team mate does a lot. At the same time falling in rank isn't exactly a step back if you are learning new playstyles and trying to implement them. I'd say it's more of an information overload and she's trying to think how to implement the newer aerial play as well as demos which regressed part of her older improvements temporarily.
It's like if you have been practicing dribbling for months, gotten to where your catches and carries are consistent, then try to use different flicks or air dribbles you'll stumble on the basics you just worked on because you are trying to do more advanced stuff.
Her positioning is good, but she's having to make a conscious effort for that still instead of it just being a natural state, meaning brain power is put into that still instead of it being instinctive which means she isn't fully thinking what to do next until it happens.
Basically, once she gets more comfortable with her positioning and that comes more naturally to her she's going to probably hit diamond 3 with ease. Then when she gets that defense down to a natural thing rather than "omg ball near my goal AHHHH" and patiently picks her touches champ won't be far off. She's developing the essential game sense now, once she let's that breathe a bit and become second nature she'll never see Plat again in that mode lol. Good job emmie.

    1. Make your play. (Mechanics)
    2. Recover. (Recoveries)
    3. Rotate behind the play. (Rotations)
    4. Wait for teammate to make their play. (Positioning)
    5. Win the loose ball / Shoot if opponents are out of position. (Speed / Awareness)
    6. Repeat.
It's literally just 6 easy steps but this formula will take you from Gold to GC.
There are times when you can break this formula if it has a high likelihood of turning into a goal, such as when you have a 2 on 1 on attack and one person breaks rotations to demo the last man, or when opponents are taking a shot and your teammate doesn't have the save so you need to break rotation to make the save, but those situations come down to experience and understanding what your opponents are trying to do and where every player on the field is.

You asked for what she might need at 11:03, The thing that i noticed was the backboard rotation. or backpole rotation of the play. From that perspective she will have more view of the play of her teammate and the opponents. This way she will not over commit and can take a second to breath. I hope this will help her to get better :D

Biggest drop was C3->D3 which was kinda rough lol.
I'm a very non mechanically-flashy player so here are my thoughts just watching that end part:
    1. Consistency - This comes with more practice but also from slightly better positioning. Mainly, on the near-post rotation goal she could use some of her momentum and boost to take a wider path. The ball in the corner is not really that dangerous so trying to cut it early at the risk of getting it hit over or making a bad clear isn't as worth it. One thing I kinda noticed is she has a tendency to mosey forward, I see this a lot with my buddies as well, but they'll just keep their finger on the gas to inch forward and slowly get themselves into a position where they'll need to do something more mechanically difficult which increases the risk of mistakes and missed opportunities.
    2. Speed - You said you're gonna work on this next time but it looks like she uses the brake a lot and doesn't fully utilize her momentum and boost as much. This means balls where she can win turn into 5050s or worse, some of her hits end up pretty weak cause she can't use her car's momentum to get better speed on the ball etc. This also just helps with consistently beating the players around that level since they usually aren't as used to playing against faster players.
    3. Positioning - I know you were praising her positioning as GC level - but the issue is that its GC positioning with diamond mechanics which makes it really difficult to fully utilize that positioning. I think she needs safer positioning to match her diamond mechanics and as her speed, consistency, car control etc improve, tweak the positioning to be more aggressive (for example positioning closer to the wall ball-side when her teammate is bringing the ball up the field). Not exactly its own point but vision and anticipation helps a lot here to predict where the ball will end up going rather than making a decision after seeing where the ball is going so she'll be ready sooner to make a play.
IMO dropping rank isn't regressing its just a combination of trying to utilize new concepts and luck of the draw with teammates/opponents (on certain days). If she feels like she's playing better the rank will eventually follow which is the important thing. Dip down in rank while learning, to bounce up higher on mastery.
Anyway great vid, can't wait to see Emmie in GC!

Shooting training is something she'll benefit from immediately.
Recall the old drill musty taught with hitting the ball at the sidewall like you're playing squash with yourself.
Shots you shouldn't miss, ground shots, and shooting consistency are old training packs that I still use as a gc but have used since diamond.
In fact, as a gc, ground shooting is one of the most important fundamentals to have mastered.
You also should tell her to develop a mindmap of where everyone on the field is, because in my gc games, if I know an opponent is behind me, I'll just zigzag sporadically to avoid demos even if they never come and it works wonders without really taking away potential for the next play. When that skill is developed, it becomes a background process.

For all it helps, I was safe in C1 ( like 30 games between div 1 and div 3) and then dropped down to Dia 1. It happens when you pay attention to some things that you completely forget about others which sometimes are more important.
But when you dropped a rank or a bit more you expect certain things from your team mates. But they suddenly behave differently and you have to adapt to that again.
Regression always happens, there is natural variance in the game against which you cant do anything...

Happens a lot especially after a big jump. Sometimes you get worse before you get better, specifically you know all the things you should be doing but aren't consistent enough at them *yet* and while you're practicing those things, the you aren't doing the same gameplay that got you to your rank to begin with. So you're getting better, but ranking down, until you're consistent at the new game style and pull back through to a new higher rank. I see it all the time, I just call it "getting worse before you get better" when trying new things

I’m currently GC2/GC3, but whenever I focus on improving, I often fall into the trap of expecting my tm8s to be doing the same. Especially when I was in the Diamond/champ ranks, I didn’t pay enough attention to what my tm8s were doing (and still sometimes forget to)…so basically I would improve personally and be more confident in the plays I make on the ball, but if you’re not aware of how your tm8s are playing then it’s all for nothing. In RLCS they’ve been talking about impact plays, and in the game your showed with Emmie, it seems to me like her plays weren’t contributing as much as they would with a more solid tm8. It comes down to adaptability, with I think is more of a GC skill. Amazing to see her improvement though! I’ve shown this to some of my Diamond friends who are tired of being stuck but refuse to listen when I say training packs and freeplay

I always regress after learning new skills and play styles. For example several seasons ago I hit C1 and then after some replay analysis and new play styles were introduced I went back to D3. Honestly it was good for me to practice down there. This has happened every rank progression Ive made since. My RL mentor always says when you play worse opponents you get to practice attacking, when better opponents you get to work on defense.
I have several pretty rock solid ideas for coaching, revolving around game sense rotational issues, mechanics and most importantly mentality. He practiced his ceiling shots, flip resets, ground pinch, and all kinds of crazy aerial acrobatics... and I spent most of my time just trying to defend. He would encourage me to try different things, and never acted like he was a RL god (even tho he was a RL god in my eyes). Great vid! A great advice i can give as a GC2 is that she needs to think less. The more you think about what you are going to do, the chances are higher of wiffing. Also she needs to use the field better. That save she went for at 10:50 was very unnecessary. She could have turned back, and rotated wide so she would have an easy save with shadow defense. However, as you said in the video, her positioning is very good when she does not have the ball. I believe in her!

I remember being stuck in plat for a while but started watching RUclips tutorials and tips on Rocket League and it has really helped. This coaching you are giving her will really improve her gameplay and gamesense. Her rotations are great for a diamond. One thing is just her being awkward with her car control. Help her understand how the car is controlled, upside down, sideways, and just a full understand to understand the car movements, maybe a bit of air roll as well. Other than that, she is playing excellent and I love your coaching. I can use this advice myself, especially in the future time when she gets to champ, where I am.

CBell. I have an Idea to help Emmie. I was (Plat 3) 1 season ago. 2 things Emmie should do:
    1. Goalkeeper training (Diamond or Champ to be specific). This will help her defend balls that she would typically find in all of the games she faces.
    2. When the opposing team has the ball, and they are running towards her net, have Emmie act as a goalkeeper (and have her sit in the goal). The worst thing in Plat/Low Diamond to do is be last person back while trying to defend against 2 people in 2's (Example: 10:50 in the video. She is not defending the goal, and instead, is in midfield as last person back, which almost allowed the other team to score). If you do this, then not only can she combine her Aerial skills she has learned, but she can also use her demo skills to make a counterattack for a score.
At 11:20 in the video, you can see Emmie is on the attack trying to dribble when right next to net (which is not always the best idea), and the other team's 2 players were defending their goal, which ultimately gave them the advantage (Again, 2 v 1, not good).
Another side note: You only really need ball cam when attacking or near midfield. If she is defending, then it is not very good to have ball cam on as this only focuses on the ball, when the other team could be crafting a awesome play (Example: 11:33 -11:38)
Car suggestion for 2 v 2: Either Takumi (defending), Octane (Aerialing), or some type of Demo expert car.
I hope for the best for Emmie, and I hope these suggestions will help her progress.

The fact that she is getting so much better mechanically than she was in the beginning is probably why she had a regression. Learning so much mechanics at once and then trying to implement those into games is difficult. Just because you learn a mechanic doesn’t mean you know how to use it in game and she is probably trying to look for opportunities to use those mechanics in game even when those opportunities aren’t there. I had a similar experience recently where I trained mechanics non stop, rose to champ and then dropped back to diamond one right after, losing about 20 games in a row. And even though I knew I was better than diamond one it took time to figure out how to use game sense and new mechanics together to climb back up. And I’ve climbed back since then. Just takes time to learn how and when to use mechanics in game, at game speed!

Just decision making is what she needs, she needs understanding of what to do and when to do it. I would recommend Flakes and how he teaches it in the lower ranks. Teach her how to be comfortable with not going and make her understand based on the oppositions car when she can go and what will happen. She just needs a better understanding of what certain things mean and then be able to react to it before and not after things happen. The more she knows and are aware of before it happens ,the less mechanical she needs to be as she does struggle with that. Evolve her brain, understanding and then the mechanical part will be much easier down the road.
The positioning is a big point i can take up, she said: Im thinking so hard about my positioning.
That means she has the awareness and knowledge to understand what is right. So seeing that being said makes me realize that teaching her the fundamentals about game sense is much more important, Flakes also says this in his road to SSL series when he was in the lower ranks. It's all about patience, positioning, awareness about team mate, opponents and how they move and where they look (Car positions/Car facing) To make people better understand what will happen next if (this this this) etc

I’m currently champ1 have been on the brink of champ2 a few times. For me as I get better at certain aspects like backboard defense or quick aerials for example, I tend to get too confident and start ego challenging and notice that I start making bad decisions because I’m eager to make those plays now that I’m better mechanically. That’s kinda what I feel happened here. She seemed excited early because she knows she’s getting better and wanted to make the plays before the plays were there. Once you started live coaching and reminded her to take her shot and get out and stuff like that she started playing very solid. It easy to get a little sloppy when you’re trying the new things you’ve learned and have been working on, at least for me it is lol.

i think something i need to work on that you taught her in this video is learning to air roll with dedicated air roll right/left buttons. i have never used them and recently i tried binding air roll right to my left trigger to try to improve my half flips but i got rid of it after a few days because it was messing a lot of my mechanics up including half flips. i think maybe a different button would be better. definately something other than the same button i use to reverse because i feel like thats what's messing my half flips up. i drive backwards to start the half flip and if i dont time the release of the left trigger and then the re-pressing of it for the half flip, it just does a side flip or a back corner flip and completely messes up the orientation and alignment of my car

As a diamond myself what Emmie needs now since she has the mechanic is some game sense and a good solid teammate to compliment her weaknesses to compliment her ever growing mechanics that should help get her up to champ

Yeah "a good solid teammate" like the smurf she partied up with in episode 3, who carried her to diamond. Expect more of that.

@oldboi_gg she's doesn't even need a smurf, if she had someone of her skill level with solid game sense to compliment her growing playstyle she can easily make champ. I don't have the best mechs but I would like think my decent game sense is what has helped me maintain diamond and not regress to much of I hit a losing streak

Boost management in areas. Just randomly using boost is depriving her for when it matters. Not going back post enough when needed. Trying to be to fast when attack causing her to miss the ball. Rotating wrong side in areas but rotation seams overall good. And that cam stiffness is bad. If she had it rock hard she would be able to hit the ball easier because the cam isn’t moving at all from the car. She’s doing really well though for the progression. Recession is normal when learning. For instance I peaked gc1 for a bit then learned how to play there and dropped while trying to learn new mechs and movements. Current on my way back up from c1-c2

I tend agree with Sunless on this sort of thing. I don't remember the name of the video, but it goes roughly along these same lines.
As we learn new skills and mechanics, we're eager to incorporate them in game. The problem is that it takes time to understand how the new skills need to be incorporated and time to get rid of the old habits. It's not always difficult to alter your playstyle on a conscious level, especially when you're actively being coached. On a subconscious level, though, you're gut reactions and reflexes need time to change.
I dont think that her de-ranking is a sign of regression. I think she's in the process of tearing down her subconscious playstyle and building a new one that includes everything you've been teaching her, which will probably lead her into climbing well into D3-C1 level before de-ranking again, if we're making predictions.
Looking forward to seeing her hit GC!

Great thoughts. It's either all that OR maybe it's because she got carried to diamond by a smurf in episode 3.

Hi, I'm GC, here are my thoughts on why she dropped rank :
    1) When you're learning new tactical concepts, you may have a tendancy to overthink, maybe it's the case here ?
    2) When you're getting better mechanically, you might find yourself going for balls you wouldn't before.
    3) Getting better creates higher expectations about yourself, and higher expectations lead to more frustration when you're losing (work on mindset ?).
    4) When you drop rank, you need to play differently because your teammates are not playing the same in plat as in diamond.
PS: I'm french, so please be forgiving if you see syntax errors :)

I promise this is more common than you think. The learning curve in this game is so exponential, so skills stack on top of each other a lot more than you’d realize. I started practicing dribbling even more and my ball control has improved a lot, but now I find myself almost relearning flicks I felt pretty confident with before. It happens lol

I’ve dropped from champ 2 div 4 to Diamond 2 div 2 and I’m currently champ 1 div 3. I also really recommend starting to work on speed because eventually her opponents will be quicker than her and she plays very slow ( not a bad thing) just that sometimes the speed is necessary

One thing about live training. It's a false boost. It comes up as a racing instructor too. You can guide someone around a track just telling them what to do but they will go back to being as slow as they were originally as soon as you get out of the passenger seat.

CBell you should help Emmie with this kind of shot positioning at 11:23. It's a good shot to go for but she goes for the ball at a tough angle when she has the time to approach the ball from a wider angle that gives her a better chance to shoot the ball how she wants to. Aside from that Emmie's positioning is looking good!!

I may bot be amazing at the game but im decent and mistakes i have seen he make is that when attacking or defending she losses all her momentum and has to try and get it back which wastes boost
She is so focused on making such minor adjustments in driving but it looks like her ground sensitivity is too high for her.
When shooting she is going to the ball too dead-on rather than hitting it at a slight angle.
She also puts herself in alot of oppertunities where she is awkward where she is under the ball or in a way where she cant move anywhere.
    Love the video's bro🔥

As someone who’s recently gone from plat to champ. I must say one thing that helped a lot was to fake challenge to put pressure on the opponents. They’ll 9/10 just try to hit the ball past you and if you’re decent with speed you can easily get back and take possession. Also don’t trust you teammates until late diamond lol

Also, this season I fell to c1 div 1 before making my peak push of high c3. What I like to do is for a couple games just play either super fast or super slow and give either my brain a rest or my mechanics until they are both up to speed

2 things I have in mind.
    1. Teach her how to kickoff because currently she just boosts then flips into it at the end.
    2. Talk to her about offensive decision making, sometime when she is on the offense she won't know what to do with the ball based off of the opponent (I am a victim of this in my games).

Imo He's getting frustrated with her because he needs the progress from her too, and trying to find a middle ground to not be telling her what she did wrong ALL the time.
It's actually quite refreshing seeing a coach blast a bad teammate instead of the 1 in 14 million things you coulda done
That 6:00 goal where the tm8 steals boost is for sure more her fault for that awful defensive bump to center she did.

Biggest thing that took me from D2-C1 was learning to dribble and pass. Even though it’s on the ground it really helped my air control as well.
My biggest drop was D3-P2 in 3s. After 6 months I finally got back to D3. My reasoning at first was teammates, now I realize I was doing 2s rotations

I feel like one big thing for diamonds that constantly knocks them from rank to rank is consistency. A lot of diamonds aren’t able to play and think consistently right and they can be all over the place and just end up declining.
