Seeing you putting this camera up against your test chart is like watching an Aston Martin Cygnet go around Silverstone, performance isn't something to sneeze at but it does look fun to use!
No mention made of the Leica Fotos app which interfaces with the Sofort. Apart from giving you the means to edit an image in Lightroom before printing, it also allows you to use the Sofort as a printer for images taken on other Leica cameras which has benefit in the field. The readiness to dismiss the camera because of its red dot comes across as inverted snobbery. Having used the Fuji equivalent the functionality of the Sofort is far ahead and imho worth the price premium.
The Selphy 4x6" printers are actually a decent cost per print--about 35 cents US, which is quite competitive with Zink 2x3" (50 cents), Instax (75 cents), Instax Wide (100 cents), and commercial photo labs (40 cents). Unfortunately the printer itself is quite large, especially with the paper tray attached.
It's for the developing process. @@MrWiseinheart unlike Polaroid originals or Polaroid film it doesn't take 15 minutes to develop it really takes maybe 90 seconds so if you flip it over or put it in a pocket or in a place of sedude light it will develop properly. Also shaking the picture will also make it worse. Do not shake it like a Polaroid picture That's for older style film like roll film or pack film.
Leica is actively working to ruin their reputation with this one... - it seems that, similar to the Leica-rebranded Panasonic Lumix cameras back in the days, this is a rebranded Fuji Instax?
Leica have done something similar with their new L mount lenses, for example their 24-70, which by all accounts are rehoused Sigma glass costing twice as much but still half as much as their original Summilux F2 primes. I don't dislike Leica but it doesn't feel great that more of their stuff isn't actually their stuff these days.
Your price is incorrect for for the colour film, it £14.99 for a pack of 20 and monochrome(black & white) film is more expensive at £9.99 for 10 .Prices in the the USA are about $15 and $10 respectively. But as has been said it's just a rebadged Fuji EVO in a different jacket i.e basically cosmetic differences only. So anyone might as well buy the EVO for about £200 and save the extra £150 you have to spend to buy the Leica unless on specifically wanted the Leica or just wanted the name Leica on the camera.
Hi Chris, another interesting review as always. Just for the record the German word sofort usually means in English ‘er rapid if I remember my German lingo correctly!
Hello Christ, your reviews are great, I always watch you every time you release a new video. Can you review the Sony rx10iv camera, please? I really interested it because of its insane zoom range with good image quality
Probably some sort of skin would look nice on the front of the camera - and it will reduce the amount of fingerprints as well :). I don't get the need for any manufacturer to give a glossy, piano effect to objects that will obviously be handled a lot by hands. Interesting camera otherwise - probably a bit overpriced, but interesting.
This is a $400 camera. And I can’t understand why? At least they should have put a 1 inch sensor in there. And I know they can fit one, because I have the dji pocket 3, and they are able to do it. They should’ve changed $500, and put a 1 inch sensor with autofocus. Dji was able to do it, and I think they did a great job. A small Leica camera with a 1 inch sensor that’s pocketable and can be used for casual shooting makes more sense than this toy. Just use your phone. All modern phones can produce better quality than this. And most people will be carrying their phone with them. So this just doesn’t make sense for me. I get the need for a “fun” pocketable camera just to take pictures. But this is not it.
That price is impossible for Leica. You''re thinking of a normally branded camera... it would be possible to do it for $400. But this is Leica - such a camera would need to cost about $800 at least. This is an Fuji Instax Evo camera with a Leica brand - Fuji Instax Evo costs $150.
@@quikee9195 I guess you’re right on account of branding. Doesn’t really make sense to me because, although it’s branded as Leica, it doesn’t have the amazing materials Leica uses for their cameras. But I’m still gonna dream tho. 😂
This is a repackaged INSTAX Mini Evo with Leica branding. Even down to the lens and back wheel creative options, the sensor and obviously the film. If this cameras functionality appeals to you, save yourself paying double the price just for the Leica branding and buy the INSTAX Mini Evo instead!
This is the worst of both worlds: you have to pay for film but you do not get the actual benefits of film (pretty colors and high enough resolution, plus no need for a sensor). Printing digital onto photographic film is a wasteful thing which should be reserved for expensive WB blockbusters
Ridiculous camera, imo. If it's to be an instant camera and fun to use, at least should be fun to look at, and not look like a cheap digital camera (tiny lens, tiny sensor, laggy image animation, and small print). An optical instant camera has to have a relatively much larger lens and has to be constructed in a particular way to keep it from being bulky, thus that typical Polaroid form. The photo is even smaller than Polaroid's (that old typical Polaroid, at least, in case they have some other size). Your mother-in-law has a good taste even for cheap things. She seems to be like, "It's not because it's cheap that everything goes, and the Leica badge and 'Made in Germany' inscription are not fooling me."
You sound really positive about the image quaitly lol for almost 400 bucks this lens and camera is trashhhh and not really close at all to modern cellphones. Plus the co stand having to buy new film witch is pricey as hell is wildly not worth it. It's an endless money dump into bad instant print cameras just for the Leica name. There's way better instant print cameras for aaa lot cheaper film still is pricey but you could get better image quailty for a cheaper price tag this thing is hot garbage I was slightly excited at first then I saw the price tag and got a lil more happy then I say your test images and they were trash and very plain colored outdoor was a but better but just plain as heck not even cool effect can save that camera.
When you compare this to regular film photography, the price of film for this camera is not too bad. Considering a price of $13 for 35mm film and another $18 for processing and prints. The prices are almost equivalent.
If you think this is a good deal, wait until you see how much cheaper bulk instax mini film is. Because that's what this is but with a Leica tax. No literally its the same hardware and filmstock
@@JonasPetri Yes, but 35mm doesn't give you instant photos from the camera. In that respect, similar to a Polaroid. However, you also get digital images on a microSD card to boot. It really depends on the use case.
Oh come on! If instant is what you like, then just go back to the real instant cameras of the 80’s. They print bigger, better and are pieces of history!
Seeing you putting this camera up against your test chart is like watching an Aston Martin Cygnet go around Silverstone, performance isn't something to sneeze at but it does look fun to use!
If anyone wonder, yes. I chose that example/car purposely.
Isn't it just a reboxed Fujifilm mini Evo which costs double the price?
Yes it is just a reboxed mini evo for twice the price.
Yes, for £350. Madness.
And the evo really is just a bad phone camera along with a fuji instax printer and a small screen at that
Film price is nearly double that of instax mini as well
But does the Fuji have the red dot? Everyone knows that red dot makes ALL of the difference...

the comment i was looking forrrrrr
Is... just... come on, there is always the cannon selphy series for that which works with any camera.
i have one, works wonders for small prints
Yes, great little printers. A bit expensive in use, but they never dry out❤

😂😂😂😂😂
really worth $40 as a toy on a good day
my god, reminds me of prints off cameraphones circa 2005
They’d have to pay me...
Maybe a tip for all the Fuji Instax users: try letting your printed foto’s ‘develope’ upside down. The colours will be mutch better from your prints.
Hmm..Is there some scientific reason for this?

I’ll stick with my Instax Mini Evo.
Nice, I didn't know this one. I like the name: Sofort. It means immediately, directly or instantly in German.

Why not mentioning, that this is a Fujifilm Instax rebranded für double the Price? So sad!
This is an expensive variant of a Fuji Instax camera is it not?
Hi Chris, another interesting review as always. Just for the record the German word sofort usually means in English ‘er rapid if I remember my German lingo correctly!
Actually not 'rapid', but 'instantaneous' is the translation of 'sofort' - they did't just OEM Fuji hardware, they borrowed the name, too...
It could be the most reliable “Leica” ever. Fuji quality without the stigma of a low price! 😊
IS there anything keeping you from putting Fuji Instax film in it, those are only 50 cents a shot.
This looks great in red!
Hello Christ, your reviews are great, I always watch you every time you release a new video.

Kinda looks like a childs camera that I gave to my little cousin for Christmas.
In tbis case i prefeer to buy the fuji printer and print from my phone or maybe photos made by.my sony.
I sold mine after a month.
The image quality really isn't good, so I only used it to print my main camera's pictures.
Even at $30 for 20 exposures, it sure beats 8 for $35 for Polaroid 600 and Sx70
How large is Christopher's test chart actually?
Hi Chris, could you retest the canon 85 f1.8 for the elf mount on your new test chart? Was curious if it can keep up with today’s sensors, thanks!
If you support me on Patreon...you'll be able to check out that review right now :-)

Hi, I don't know it can zooming function, can u tell me how.thanks
Leica badge lens... Can anyone tell me is it made from glass or plastic?
Can you transfer photos from camera to phone?
If Leica isn’t rehousing Sigma lenses, they’re rehousing Instax cameras 😂😂 I mean, I’ll still buy one if my wife allows.
A Fuji instax mini evo clone
Its just a rebadged fuji tho
OMG I FORGOT ABOUT LEFTFIELD!!!
I will just have FreePrints do the printed photos.
This is basically the camera and display of an iPhone 3G with a printer slapped on… I mean come on Leica, don’t you have any pride?
