Acknowledging that you feel bad, and that's ok, is important. Acting that, just because someone has it worse, you should be happy, can sometimes be really dangerous.

I remember watching REM headline a festival.
A woman stood next to me warned me she'd be in tears for this song..

    Gave her a quick hug.

I, too, had a dark period in my life where thoughts of suicide were there. Thankfully, I never acted on it. I’m gay and it took finally accepting it and not letting anyone else define me for it (because screw then!) for me to move on from that dark place.
I still live with and sometimes struggle with depression but I no longer have those bad thoughts. This song came into my life around the time of me beginning my darkness. Looking back, it may have been one of the background reasons why I held on.
Thank you for sharing your story. You apologized several times but I don’t believe you need to. I understand the reason why you apologized, but it’s not needed. If you are hurt and if you are crying, just let it out. As the song says “every body hurts”. Tears reduces so much stress in your life. Man or woman, no harm in crying, letting your tears out and expressing your feelings. We are all humans and we all have feelings, highs and lows in life… cheers to life!!!

Thank you for being brave enough to share your humanity. I don't think there's a person alive who didn't respond that way when they first heard this song. The beauty of this was that it was a catharsis for probably millions of people to just let go. I honor the divinity within you.

This song kept me alive on several occasions, the catharsis it provided was needed so badly. I still can't listen to it without the tears running. Suicidal thoughts have left me since it was discovered I was bipolar, and was put on a drug regimen that has helped immensely.

There are many people who wish they could keep it together during this song. It may sound crazy, but it's good for that dark place to resurface just to let you know where you are now. It's a great point of reference. Look where you are, you're alive, you're striving and you're beautiful...keep that going, because you deserve it.

I thank God that you are in a better place. You make me smile each and every time that I look at your reactions. I never
Would have thought that you had been in such a dark place. This is the reason we all should just be kind and loving to
One another…because we don’t know what is going on in another person’s life. I’ve lived to be 70+years, just know that
People do care and love you. You continue to be strong, and make us happy sharing your beautiful “you”! ❤

Jayy - It's OK. Like the song says, we all cry from time to time. This is the wonderful thing about music, it can help release emotions and inspire, all at the same time. Just this week, I woke up from PTSD nightmares (4 years Firefighter / 20 years police), one of which was a scene that happened almost 25 years ago, but still haunts me to this day. But you saved the day for me because I had just been on your channel a few hours before and you reacted to a song that I really liked but had 'forgotten' about until your reaction. By making / editing a music video to that song with images I found on the internet to express my emotions and letting the inner demons out, I started to feel much better. See, by doing your reactions, your help others with themselves too, so never apologize for how your express yourself and your emotions. Much Love...

REM are four guys from Athens Georgia that dropped their first major label album sometime in the early to mid 80s, and absolutely blrw everyone that was into the Rock genre, away! They were fresh and new, and most of us had never heard songs, and a voice so distinct as the voice of Michael Stipe. I think rolling Stone magazine voted their first album as best album of the year, and has been in the top 50 rolling Stone rated best albums rock/alternative albums of all time. You are definitely not alone. I can't count the times I've cried while listening to this song. I hope you check out some of their other stuff. Maybe some of their earlier songs. No matter which songs from whatever era REM is an incredible band, and have moved millions of people. Some songs want to make you bounce off the wall and some might cause you to cry, but no matter what songs you listen to you will always feel the belief in Michael stipes voice that he believes music can and does change the world, and people as a whole. I'm so glad a new generation of people like yourself are discovering groups that at one time would fill stadiums and go five times Platinum. Peace ps. Check out REM's: it's the end of the world (as we know it.)

Girl...you got nothing to apologise for. It's called being human. I can remember sitting in the middle of my living room listening to this song and crying just like you did. I was in the exact same place years ago and tried to end it several times, but luckily with the help of some good friends and a few professionals, I came out the other end ok. We got this! Cheers from Toronto.

Honey I’ve been there myself and am on meds to help me, so I know how you feel too. And it doesn’t hurt to have a good cry, there are certain movies and songs I watch/listen too and even books read to help me release those thoughts and feelings I feel creep up on me at times. I suggest creating a playlist for whenever you are feeling down with songs that help you have a good cry and give you hope at the same time.
