Nah that's not how this works. Lawyers are fully expected to be political activists, many lawyers take on pet projects representing clients pro bono and filing suit against the state in cases where they believe that to be in the public interest. Lawyers have absolutely no legal power, they are truly nothing but citizens, their only advantage in a court of law is the knowledge of the law and body of evidence that they bring with them. If a lawyer believes they cannot vociferously uphold the interests of their client due to some bias they are expected to refuse the client and refer them to competent legal counsel. This is the extent to which we restrict the political activities of lawyers beyond those restrictions which are legally placed upon any other citizen and for good reason; lawyers wrote the constitution and they knew exactly what legal trickery corrupt governments use to try to dictate over their citizens, as well as that people with deep knowledge of the law and the courage to stand up to authority and speak in a clear and concise manner would be required to fight exactly this sort of corruption some day.
Remember this, Ted Cruz is a lawyer - he is also a political activist. To witness this exact situation would have made some of the founding fathers cream their jeans, it's their dream come true. A lawyer raising his voice in the Senate to prevent a political opponent from reaching office not on the basis of her beliefs but simply that she has an explicit intent not to perform the duties of her office? Cruz is a class act not going for the kill here, he could have been brutal but being polite is far more effective, lawyers are effective activists lol.

It is mind-blowing when people call the voter ID laws racist. I watched a questioning the man on the street episode the other day. Entitled White liberals talked about how voter ID laws were racist and then proceeded to say that a large portion of black people couldn't get to a DMV to get an id, couldn't afford an ID, and didn't know how to use or access the internet as well. Then they went to an inner city neighborhood and asked the African-Americans on the street what they thought about the requirement to produce a voter id. They were all for it and quite offended but anyone would suggest that they didn't know how to access the internet or pay for a state id.

No one can be elected to the position she was nominated. Appellate judges are appointed and confirmed. Why is having ideas bad? Scalia had ideas, RBG had ideas, but they used facts and reason to interpret the law faithfully. What you are saying is radical. Not allowing people who disagree with you to be on the bench is radical, anti-republican (small r) and anti-democratic (small d), and anti-American.

It's not just a matter of agreeing or disagreeing with her (with you having exaggerated the OP's comment towards that end) but Myrna Pérez's ACTUAL TRACK RECORD of being EXTREMELY radical. And like Illona and Angel, I agree that it's beyond obvious in this hearing that she can't be trusted to be impartial based on her past rhetoric. She is barely able to answer a single question about her past and present positions without sidestepping and dodging. With nothing to show for her positions now (despite given every opportunity to elaborate) it's not ridiculous to assume she still holds those radical positions...and sorry but they are radical, and there is no place for that in our justice system.

If you listen to what was being asked + what she was saying she did answer + there are decisions that are NOT made by these judges, the laws have precendent(*then he states she could just push what she wants through-??
