can confirm guys these pair of dobies are a handful only reason why I got both was because they were the last two. They were rescues glad I found @AmericanStandardK9 though its been a big help
Happy to hear that we've helped, thanks for the support!
My cousin had 2 Doberman as well. Absolute mess 😂
My wife and I raised two puppies from same litter. As puppy training we did separately and they turned out to be the best dogs I have ever had. Female died after 13 and a half years old. Her brother just turned 15 years old. I know we were very lucky.
Nice! Key is having someone else so each dog has their fav person
we have a boy/girl siblings from the same litter and they’re not showing signs of littermate syndrome. Our trainer said it’s not as common in opposite genders.
Just looked litter mate syndrome up.. pleased at age of 62 i have learnt about it.
I have had dogs for about 35 years, never from the same litter, and usually with about 2 years inbetween.... That was hard enough... 😮.
I am so grateful for your chanel.
Thank you, appreciate the support!
Two years apart is just about perfect. They're just over puberty, still young enough to play, and ideally spaced far enough at end of life so you're not losing everyone at once.
Two dogs from the same litter? Sounds ruff
Ha
Seriously, what is littermate syndrome?
@@JNCRLSFU I mean, you took the time to write a comment. Why not just spend the time just searching it up, you would've already had your answer instead of just waiting for one.
@@bobthesaucegod903u took your time writing about how the other guy didnt do reaserc why didnt u just answer his question ? Wouldnt that be easier and more decent than ofending that person? -_-
@@midnighthunter5677Lmao right? He walked into that one
Hmmm! And I went and rescued triplets almost 15 years ago! IT WAS hard, but they turned out to be the best dogs I ever had. He's right. Two or more at a time is not for everyone.
Note: The rescue said I could only adopt two, so my daughter adopted the third one. He never made it to her house.
The rocket power intro 😂
I agree, seeing Jesse & James was funny 😂
Brought me back 😂
I've had 3 sets of sisters from same litter and had zero problems
Raised Two K9 boys Half German Shepherd, Half Siberian Husky (Gerberian Shepskie) 5yrs old. Mamma German Shepherd 7yrs old. With Auntie/Mamma/Alpha, a Siberian Husky 8yrs old (Brother-Neighbor is the Sire) . The greatest challenge and most enjoyable! Thank you for your guidance over the years. My PACK is strong in mind, body, and soul.
Having a young adult dog help you train a pup is beautiful
My mom’s a dog trainer for a living and even she finds it frustrating raising our 2 doberman-mastiff mixes.
Yup. I got 3 dogs (10yo, 6yo, 4yo) but I've always staggered the ages so to avoid this. Even if they're not from the same litter if they are the same age you still run into the risk of littermate syndrome.dogs
I have two puppies that are from the same litter and they have been really awesome with training but it was hard at the starty with the second one cause she was so excited for everything but her sister was so focused into training she got mad at her for interrupting her with training. But she got the hang of listening with her sister instead of bugging her.
I agree. Older, more experienced dogs, will become like a parental figure for Lesser Experienced pups
I currently have 11 dogs in my house. 5 are mine and 6 are puppies waiting for a new home. I have two dogs from the same litter, they are best of friends, but they are most definitely not well behaved compared to the other dogs. I second this, get one dog at a time.
Side note any tips for training five dogs in the same house?
I got 2 german shepherd pits from the same litter and theyre doing great :) im so proud of them
Theyre 7 months and know what bite, back up, no jump, and go lay down means. They even take pointing commands alr which was the main thing i wanted 🥰 theyre names are karma and choas
It is annoying when theyre both in your space but that why i worked on go lay down and go first along with getting them to not compete for attention
You are so right!!
I had 2 fox terriers from the same litter. Honestly some of the best dogs ive ever had.
Miss you jack and baily.
Truly one of the wisest and best trainers on the internet. And in person i'm sure He's speaking from experience And belgium mals are not for everybody
Had two from the same litter, trained separately then introduced on a walk together best partners I've ever had.
I have two Labs 6 months apart in age. They are 2 and 2 1/2 now. 4 months ago I found a Corso that is now mine and is also about 2 yrs old. Yep lot of work good thing I am retired.😂 Wouldn't recommend it for anyone unless you have lots of time and are extremely dedicated to individual as well as pack daily training. But damn they are fun and well worth the effort.
100% Agree! And breeders shouldn't allow people to take more than one at a time either.
100% agree with that comment. Any breeder that allows someone to take two puppies is not a good breeder at all in my opinion.
My friend is a breeder and she HIGHLY discourages getting more than 1 at a time.
i mean that is good but some people do know their shit tho, i think it should depend on the person, ofc they don’t know if the person could raise 2 puppies or not but stilllll,
there are many people
who have raised 2 from the same litter and turned out fine
I am a breeder I would never sell 2 puppies to the same home EVER. I kept 2 puppies from one of my litters because I know what I am doing I wouldn't expect others to know and it's irresponsible to assume people can do it. Most people can't or don't even have the time to do it correctly
@@malaineeward5249Sorry your friend is a very irresponsible breeder. Only a small percentage of people will be able to correctly train littermates. I am a breeder and I STRONGLY discourage that.
i got 2 pups from the same litter during the pandemic era. My sister had like 6 pups in a litter and no one was interested in adopting the other pups. Having 3 of my dogs passed away in the same year, I was not planning on taking some more dogs, but I felt sorry for the pups not finding a good home now that they are around 3 months old already.
I got 2 pups from that litter, and so far I can confirm it was double trouble, double the struggle in training them. They had become very bonded to each other, which is cute but definitely NOT a good thing for pups of the same litter.
Team rocket insert is perfect. Well done.
As a bully owner, ive never added more then one dog to our family at a time. But ive rescued dogs from the street (not a shelter), and ive kept them separated until i figured out a permanent solution. If your not a full time rescue with staff, its not fair to your dog to add to the pack and expect them to adapt.
The amount of times that I go to an animal rescue review and see comments that say “we wanted 2 puppies from them and didn’t hear back” or “they wouldn’t allow it” astonishes me how negligent ppl are.
I had 5 at one point, 2 died of old age, 16 and 17. My others are now 4, 9 and 14. I'll keep them till death do us part, but my future goal is one at a time. The flea and tick treatment alone is $20 a month per dog. And $60 a month in food for 3❤
My dogs are 5yrs apart and my oldest definitely helps train my pup! They will be 7&2 this fall. German shepherd and a pit/rottie mix
I have 2 sisters and own the Mum two. Thankfully no litter mate syndrome. Been very blessed actually. 3 Staffordshire is full on, but routines and consistency have worked a lot. They are all unique and each a comedian in their own way❤
Its so mich easier to train a dog when you already have one trained. My new puppy is always watching my older dog listen to commands and copying.
While I respect your opinion and think it's solid advice, getting two twin german shepherds was the best descion of my life. Wouldn't reccomend it to others, but it worked out really well for me.
Thanks for the videos
Agreed. I always got one pet ahead of the other and the first pet always helped to raise and train the others who joined the family after that.
I can absolutely agree with this. I have two boxer boys from the same litter… they’re giving me grey hairs 😅
Raising two puppies together can be a nightmare
Most people I know they get the second dog for a wrong reason….The first time they got a puppy they’re super excited about it. They’re excited to play and walk their dog. But after awhile they feel like they don’t have time to always play or always walk their dog. So they assume if they get a second dog, their dog will have a new friend to play with. They were hoping their dog will be less needy, they expect their dog will be less likely to ask them to play cuz they hope their dog will play and be busy with the new dog. A lot of people get the second dog for this selfish reason. And then when they get the second dog, they get frustrated and more exhausted because now they got 2 dogs who are asking for attention at the same time. Now they got 2 dogs fighting for the human attention. Now they got 2 dogs always barking and asking for a walk. Please guys if you already feel “Too Busy” for your new dog, don’t get another dog hoping that you’re gonna have some peace time because you assume your dog will be too busy playing with the new dog. If u can’t handle your 1 dog being needy, then trust me u can’t handle 2 dogs at the same time.
As someone who mistakenly did that I agree
My husband and I got 2 litter mates and we took them for training classes together. Yes there was 2x everything but we each were actively involved in care, so we each could manage the dogs 1:1.
Thanks man!
Good advice for people with less experience training dogs. Focus on one at a time. My mom got two dogs from the same litter and had them trained and certified as service dogs for the disabled children in her special education classroom. They were samoyeds, and excellent work dogs.
I should of watched this 3 weeks ago...as of right now ive had my female daniff and male purebred corso for 3 weeks. Different litter obviously ....Also have a 3 year old chocolate lab male who has adapted very well. I work from home and have alot of extra time, but still, ITS A LOT OF WORK. Keeping me active, happy about that. I train them everyday. Already have seen a lot of progress. Im sure i have no idea what im in for though......Dont regret a thing....Ive been through alot in life, nothing i cant handle....The well trained demeanor that my chocolate lab has, is helping immensely and the positive reinforcement he exhibits does a lot for the situation in general.
My last 2 dogs are a year apart in age, got one at 9 weeks, got the older one 3 months later at 1 1/2 years old. Even that was too close. These two are now 4 & 5 years old. MUCH better spacing for a new puppy, hopefully coming this summer.
Let alone having two dogs at the same time for first time owners would be more expensive and more hard work. Will suck so bad.
With one it's easy to find doggie friends to have play dates with
This channel is so op ..i am planing to get a dog soon. . learning so much from here.
Happy to hear it!
A dog fully matures around 2-2&1/2 years. We always taught in training the most ideal time to get a second dog is between the ages of 2-7 years old!!! I didn't listen to myself and I now have an 9 month old female German Shepherd, and my older female GS is pushing 13!!! I also want to have 2 dogs in the house, bc I had 1 GS and unfortunately she passed by getting a ball lodged in her throat. (she found the ball in my backyard. I dont know where it came from) I was so devastated that I took 2 weeks off of work!!! They've family!!! TY for the correct advice Garrett, you're always on point!!!
I raised 2 littermates and didn’t have any issues
Where do i sign up to bring my dogs to you? You're by far my favorite dog trainer and the person I'd want to hold me accountable for training my two aussies (not littermates)

My rescued bullmastiff trained my 2 rescued English Mastiffs. He was an incredible magnificent big brother. He taught them how to check the fence lines every morning and you are absolutely correct. He made potty training a breeze with his sisters.
We bought a brother n sister from same litter. Was the best decision EVER,,,,
You said it !
No, it is not double the work it is triple the work. We ended up with 2 from the same litter, not by design. Covid had a part in the problem as well. Litter mate syndrome is real.
I’m doing two at once, thank god it wasn’t too bad for me and they are great puppies
The cost almost triples, because you need 5 beds and they'll still fight over the same one. Siblings...
I agree. So hard to convince people that this is a real thing, especially when breeders (not the reputable ones) will sell them multiple pups.
I've done it twice. Buying two dogs litter mates. Yup they're craaaazy!
I must be a magician. My two (age 14 now) we got from the same litter at about 12 wks. They have been amazingly well behaved and have had a great relationship with each other.
We call them “Professional Dogs”
Is this applicable to human offspring as well?
For my family it was easier one keeps the other in check at all times but with my old dog who is sadly no longer hear she did not listen
I did this. Didn’t know about this till after i brought them home. Glad i found out and have been working hard with each of them separately. It’s tough for sure.
Maybe it depends on the breed, I had brother and sister rott puppies from the same litter, they both were so smart, had very little trouble.
I have just got 2 Akitas m/f (18 months) from the same litter from someone who could no longer keep them. Neither of them neutered. They were completely untrained and nearly feral. I have lead trained them, house trained them, and If i take these dogs out individually, they are angels, I can walk them thumb and finger on the lead to heel around people and other dogs. They will not pull, not once. If i try taking them out together they are demons. They attack each other, they attack other dogs, he humps her. Its a nightmare. At home they are fine. Out seperately, they are wonderful. Together, it's like a red mist comes over them when they are out of the house. They pull so hard they cough up blood and cant eat for days. I've tried choke chains, harnesses, prong collars (which worked training them individually), everything. Nothing works. Will neutering one of them help? Can this be trained out of them?
Neuter doesn't always work, especially when it's a learn behavior
Seen owners neuter but didn't change their personality, unless you can test to see if the have abnormal high amounts of hormones. It's rare to see it solely based on one issue.
It's usually a complicated issues with many factors.
I've seen it. They bond to each other and make it way harder to work with them.
My pups were same litter, fortunately my household was 4 strong so they had space to train
I had litter mates and in addition to what he said I'd add the trauma and grief when one passes for the one remaining is devastating. Took my little guy over a year to recover from the loss. I'll never get litter mates again and tell everyone I know not to do it. That bond is just different than two dogs from different litters.
Facts!!
I agree!
In a few weeks, I will get my second Rottweiler. I have nearly starved Rottweiler from Rumania and now I will get a total starved Rottweiler from Serbia. I am a bitt "stresst" because of the first time, food agression and my girl vecame a german princess. I hope she can share and will not be jelouse.
Great channel & great content. Thanks ❤
Thank you!
One of my neighbours did the same thing , he bought 2 puppy beagles at the same time, but ended up giving away one of them to someone else after a couple of weeks
I really wish my family would listen to me about this. I got three huskies (crazy right) but two of em are pretty good about stuff, but one husky from their litter got sent back to us. Now he's a really good dog but when I'm trying to train him my family always brings another dog along and he's just not ready for that.
Can confirm, my sister’s dogs are little terrors because she got siblings from the same litter
Our family dog died at Thanksgiving. So, for Christmas, we bought 2 sister dogs. One for Mom, and one for her sister, Aunt Doris.
We named them "Missy" and "Holly" -- Mistletoe and Holly-Berry.
Even though they were litter mates, and both pure black, their face shape was visibly different, and so was their personality.
A good breeder should know about litter syndrome and wouldnt let two pups go to the same home at the same time.
I did. I got three of them German Shepard ‘s females. Actually I have for my old one she’s six.
100%. I got a puppy from a litter who ended up being very sickly (9 months old now) and I ended up having to take my sisters puppy who she had picked from the same litter and care for them for around 2-3 months. That was insanity. I’m training my dog for special tasks and caring for another puppy, avoiding litter mate syndrome and making sure both of them had everything they needed was a nightmare. Now my sisters puppy lives happily with her and my puppy lives happily with me. Through being careful and honestly a miracle I avoided litter mate syndrome and both babies are now thriving.
This is so true. We rescued two border collie blue healers from the Amish. At first Everything was fine until littermate syndrome started. It was terrible, and we eventually had to rehome the aggressive female to a friend.
I have my chow pit mix and rescued a husky puppy and the chow pit mix helped teach the husky puppy the ropes husky puppy turned out to be completely different then what normally people thought of huskies and told me mine was broken or not a husky at all 🤣 he was quiet wouldn’t talk howls nothing no matter what you did, he was actually quite calm, listened on a dime like my chow pit mix, didn’t destroy things didn’t try to escape or anything but unfortunately due to where I was moving to I couldn’t keep the husky puppy so someone else has him now but ya I agree the first dog can always help the new puppy learn the ropes!💙
Two Goldens, same litter, one year old, raised them from six weeks old. Best dogs I ever owned and I owned a few. It’s how you raise them that counts.
So very true but most people don't unfortunately.
What about if I keep two of my puppies from the litter my dog just had and they grow up with mom and dad will they still be as bad?
I tried to tell my friend this. She got two dachshund puppies (a breed very prone to littermate syndrome) at the same time from the same litter. On top of that they’re her first dogs. A while back I got my second dog, a now six month old cavapoo, to accompany my four year old labradoodle. I tried telling her that one puppy is already an adorable nightmare, how does she deal with two? The response. ‘They’re so cute’. They’re only 8 weeks now, how about when they grow? I just don’t have a great feeling, the puppies are already travelling and not fully vaccinated or trained yet
“It’s not twice as hard it’s easily 4 times as hard” 😂😂
Yeah. I did.
Fully knowing about the litter mate syndrome.
At the age of 2, for about 30-40% of the time, they were raised separated.
It's been with 12 years.
Fortunately, they are perfect, except they don't really like other dogs at all.
One is not interested in other dogs at all.
The other doesn't even like dogs.
But then again... they are border collie and sheltie mix.
I have 2 dogs that I haven't trained and wondered how I could train both at the same time. I guess I can't. Maybe I'll walk them separately to work on leash training.
You dont have to tell me twice. My boyfriend and i adopted a puppy over a week ago... We knew itd be work, but just a few days in i started getting the "puppy blues". It is SOOO much work. And shes sick from the shelter we got her from. So one week in, and hundreds of dollars at the vet as well. Its not all sunshine and rainbows folks
what is 'puppy blues'?
Hang in there! I know it's hard (taking care of any creature that is sick is tiring, difficult, and expensive!) But keep a long-term outlook and remember that you'll get better at managing this if you keep working at it, and many other parts of it will likely improve over time, too. ❤
@@oiltankerit's like regretting getting the puppy due to how much work it is. I got my puppy only 3 months ago and I had puppy blues for a while. I regretted getting him and even thought of putting him up for adoption. However he's been getting better and behaving a lot better than when I first got him, and it's all getting a lot easier. It does eventually go away and becomes easier
I usually skip a litter and have brothers or sister from same parents out of separate litters. My oldest two are Brother and sister from separate litters. Trained them both to work as service dogs. Also have another I got for a veteran that is same lines dad is same but mom’s are sisters from same litter. The three oldest here are service dogs (Malinois) and all work well together. Never had two from the same litter and wouldn’t recommend it. Have five Malinois here now all related some way except one. Two weeks ago I introduce a puppy into the group. Last weekend I had six here. And it was fun to see all six out playing together.
My son and family are about to embark on their new 2 red lab puppies in 3 more weeks. Hope all goes well. 😮
I have three dogs they’re not from the same litter, but I kinda get what you’re saying
Lmfao my grandmother has done this her ENTIRE life , its perfectly fine to do . If you've never raised a puppy before maybe only get one but if you know what's up it's not hard.....
I learned this the hard way with 2 border collie mixes
Bad habits that one has is learned by the other really damn quickly.
Did this very thing. Dodged littermate syndrome. Weirdly my dogs weren't even remotely interested in each other. They are however heavily bonded to me
My family got 2 sisters from the same litter 10 years ago and they had litter mate syndrome. It sucks. Please don’t do that to your puppies.
Who gon stop me?
Respect for the Pokemon reference
What is litter mate syndrome? I've never heard of it.
The power of two is what I say!!! But only if you’re at home 24/7, and have lots of experience as a dog owner and trainer.. it helps if you were a school teacher at some point.. lol!!!! Teaching 30 kids at a time , if you could do that , then you can have two young pups at the same time. However, be aware that you’ll barely have time to bathe and brush teeth!!!😂😂😂
LMAO good job editor
My wife and I got 2 puppies at the same time from a shelter and they worked out great but we had nothing but time with them since the covid lockdowns hit right after we got them. (We both volunteered before and after covid at that shelter so we knew what we were taking on though)
I adopted two dogs from the same litter and I guess I was lucky and didn't have too much of a problem with having littermate syndrome
I made it but I was blessed to have teenage children too. We all loved the dogs.
