This my favorite episode. I love it when Barney sees the steering column growing out. But what caps it all is hearing Andy say , " I dont believe Ive ever seen anything like that before." Lol😊
Just going to point out, $300 would be about 1/5 of what that car cost new. That's the equivelent of buying a $4,000 car to-day. During that time, cars became obsolete much quicker than they do now, and a Ford was already a cheap car, so it'd be the equivelent of buying a 15 year old mid size car.

I recall that after he leaves the show, Knotts appears in a later Andy episode driving a used Edsel Pacer convertible (!), spouting some nonsense about it being a "'60 with a '61 grille". ruclips.net/video/g8ECim0OiPc/видео.html
First of all, it was a 1958 model through and through-looked all original. Second, the models go up to only 1960-and they lacked a “horse collar “ grille. Third, they ceased Edsel production of any kind in November, 1959.
Years later, after Don Knotts left the show, he would come back occasionally as Barney as a guest star. Whenever Barney came back to visit Mayberry, he was always driving an Edsel. He never changed!

It was towed there by the old womans crew.
@@geraldwaldrop5131 No I mean Barney and Andy were going there anyway.
@@jamesroy4044 exactly. They were on they're way to return the car to the little old lady in Mt. Pilot but the car was delivered to Barney at Andy's house.
I wouldn’t have minded having that tow truck (wrecker). Far as I can figure, it was a 1953 GMC 3/4 or 1 ton (I’d say a 1 ton) with a heavy stovebolt six under the hood. Just love the way that engine sounded!!
They fell asleep in back of car when towed to hideout
Hard to believe that woman is "Grandmaw" Walton,
Not hard to believe at all...
Went $300 was a lot of money.
US consumer price Index shows: $300 (1963) --> $2,450 (2018)
more than what 80% of americans have in the bank
It's getting worse. Inflation is making people homeless.
Danggg
inflation calculator shows 300 in 1960 would be about $3000 today, not much life savings for a deputy.
they keep saying "Barneys first car" thats wrong, first or second episode, he owned a 1950 or 51 Ford Sedan
I smell gas, I smell gas to.... lol They left that out.
Did someone fart?
This my favorite episode. I love it
when Barney sees the steering column
growing out.
But what caps it all is hearing Andy say , " I dont believe Ive ever seen anything like that before." Lol😊
I love at the end of this episode when Barney accused the reverend of being a partner of Hubcaps Lesh.
I like how on tv these shows are digitally remastered
not barneys first car.....he had a car in the first or second episode. he drove miss roesmary to church in it
This is one of my favorite episodes. Great show.
Hahahahahahaha. Brilliant show
Just going to point out, $300 would be about 1/5 of what that car cost new. That's the equivelent of buying a $4,000 car to-day. During that time, cars became obsolete much quicker than they do now, and a Ford was already a cheap car, so it'd be the equivelent of buying a 15 year old mid size car.
THE SCENES IN WHICH THEY ARE RIDING IN THE CAR 🚗 ARE SO RIDICULOUS TO SAY THE LEAST BECAUSE ANYBODY CAN TELL THAT THEY ARE NOT RIDING @ ALL!!!! ALL THAT THEY STUDIO IS DOING IS JUST PLAYING A TAPE OF THE BACKGROUND MOVING!!!! TO ME THESE ARE THE MOST RIDICULOUS SCENES IN THE ENTIRE SERIES!!!!
All the things that Barney told Gomer the car was going to need, would cost more today than it would to buy a brand new car then. Kennedy was President when this episode first aired.
I had a car like that once. Or was it twice? 🤔
Thelma Lou’s reaction to the steering wheel was priceless🤣🤣🤣🤣
GUESS GUESS GUESSSSSSSSS
I’m going to buy a car, I drove my savings out of the bank, I’m going to get myself a automobile
If he’d hold onto one of them, he could join an Edsel Club.
He had an Edsel when he played in The Ghost and mr. Chicken
YOU'RE ON " POINT " 😂
