@@M_SC Probably out of precaution. They are interacting with a GIANT animal's baby.
What to look at is the body language of everyone. The mother watching but letting the humans pass right on by, letting them touch her baby (from behind, most likely out of safety for them) without crowding, and the keeps just casually walking in and doing their job, At the end, you can see 1-2 keepers giving the mom attention and petting her, most likely to distract and keep her calm.
All of this is telling a story of trust and care .... while also being somewhat ready for anything.

@@johnd5398 I don´t think the keepers were worried, cause the baby was breathing and in rem-sleep (moving legs like he/she was running around in the dream - in this phase it is really hard to wake up, especially when you feel very comfortable - that is why sometimes people miss their clock when they need to get up earlier as common).
For me it was more to giving Mama Elephant a helping hand, as she was a bit worried (maybe at this time it is common for her to move position because of sun is getting stronger or it was time to get food).maybe In the end no one wants the baby to get burned from the sun as elephant skin is very sensitive (that is something no one awaits, but that is the reasons elephants love to wear mudpacks, when it very sunny and hot or many flies are around).
So in the end it was prevention/ordinary daily business and no emergency, for me the keeper looked like: "I told you that the baby is having only a very deep nap, like yesterday". Maybe he was a bit under pressure as there is always a risk how Mommy will react especially she was a bit stressed (even she got them for help, she could have understand the "shaking" of the Baby as an attack, even her best friend was doing it - in the end elephants are still wild animals with another brainstructure as our cats, dogs and other domesticated and breeded animals f.e. cows and sheeps

@KimmyBee I'm not telling you how to spend your time nor do i think i have any authority over you, i just that I think your comment would've done more good under a post that actually praised the situation. How is that a terrible thing to say? You made a presumption about my comment, so I cleared it up, and you apparently think that's bad? Wasn't trying to put you down at all, unlike what you're doing now. You've made a huge assumption about my character bc you didn't like one comment, and that says plenty about your own character. I have autism and English is my third language so i'm not always the best at communicating and if you had just said something along the lines of "whoa, I don't like the way you said that" or told me you felt insulted then I would've tried to rephrase my comment and its intention for you. But instead of clearing up whatever miscomunication there was and talking to a fellow animal lover, you've insulted my private life and me as a person without knowing the kind of emotional damage that could do. I'm a complete stranger to you. You have no way of knowing I have mental health issues and that what you said will circulate in my head for weeks. You ask how I could ever have a relationship or how anyone could be vaulnerable with me, and I now find myself wondering the same for you, stranger. You seem incredibly unkind, bordering on gaslighting even. I would've been happy to talk or clear up whatever you didn't like about my comment, because I still don't understand what's wrong with it. If you read it with an attitude then I can't do anything about that. Please leave me alone.

In the wild and their ideal natural environment older elephants would do this. Sadly human controlled spaces are needed to protect them due to killing and exploitation by humans incl black market trades and poaching for zoos and pet stores (esp monkeys, birds and reptiles) or worse. Babies are taken and the mom often killed. All for profit.

They're not really powerful enough to cause any real harm, but if an elephant doesn't see a keeper and goes to walk over them, such as when moving sideways / backwards, this could save the keeper's life.
