    Here is a quick video showing how I hang a hammock using ropes instead of tree straps. (straps would be the preferred way as ropes could cause tree damage) You only need to know how to do 2 different knots to perform this.
    *Please note that Paracord or other lightweight cord should not be used for this. Make sure the rope has a weight limit that can support you and is made for supporting human weight**

    Was gifted a hammock by a (now passed) El-Salvadorian friend, but until recently, had no way to hang it. We moved 2 years ago, and now have plenty of pine trees in the back yard. Going to the box store tomorrow and buy the nylon rope, and finally hang this bad boy up. Thank you Jason for your easy to follow instructions. I'm actually kinda excited to get this thing finally done.

    Can you tell us what rope specs you are using that keeps it's form so well? I want to get some eBay Paracord... But I can't tell what is crap or going to be the same weak quality as the ones they sell at Dollar Tree.

    • @JasonOutdoors
      @JasonOutdoors  4 года назад

      Those ropes are 1/4 braided Polly similar to this: www.harborfreight.com/100-ft-x-1-4-quarter-inch-diamond-braid-rope-92112.html.
      I would definitely stay away from Paracord to hang a hammock. Paracord will stretch and snap under the weight of a person.

    • @JasonOutdoors
      @JasonOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      A lot of it is gonna be trial and error. It will depend on the length of your rope as well as distance between trees, how low or high do you like it. I would start with the rope about chest high on the tree and see how you like it and adjust from there. The nice thing is you'll be able to loosten the rope from around the tree and adjust up and down as you like.

    Nice mate, I learnt something.
    For the 1st knot around the tree you could substitute for a bowline knot? I love the 2nd knot - the slip knot - for connecting to the carabiner and how easy it is to adjust. I've been using a girth hitch or clove hitch (depending on my mood) for the carabiner part and they are nowhere this easy to adjust.....yay! PS, for the 2nd slip know you could stick a little twig in there for extra precaution.

    • @JasonOutdoors

      Assuming you are tying it correctly it could be the rope you are using. If the rope is too smooth the knot might not grab. Otherwise I would double check you are tying it correctly.

    I feel like I followed your direction, watched over and over and it still slid down. The two slip knots just wouldn’t hold. I had to tie a bunch of other knots just to make sure I don’t ended up on the floor. Ok, first time I actually did. Was using what the hardware store calls “braided utility line.” Anyways, I ordered those straps off of amazon that cut the time to a couple minutes set up. I literally lost an hour of chill time and daylight cause I’m just not cut out for the rope game. To be fair I first used the method of another RUclipsr who’s system was way too complicated and the rope slipped. At least yours was more user friendly. Gratitude: when I get my straps, I’ll really appreciate the process and modern ingenuity. Thanks for your video! 🙏🏾

    • @JasonOutdoors
      @JasonOutdoors  4 года назад

      Sorry it didn't work out for you. The straps are the way to go for sure. More user friendly and better on the trees. This rope method works well with the ropes that come with some hammocks.

  • @Greenkabin

    • @JasonOutdoors
      @JasonOutdoors  3 года назад

      I'm not sure I fully understand. If your hammock has loops on the ends and you have carabineers can't you just put the carabineers on the loops. The one minute 15 second mark in the video shows how to tie the knot that attaches to the carabineers.
