This video is perfect! Just what I needed! I bought a hammock and it came with plain nylon straps. I had NO KNOT knowledge and was looking everywhere online for a tutorial like this and couldn't find one. All I could find was these blog explaining how to use tree straps which have the metal loop at one end. Thanks to you Dave, I now know the basic knots to use when hanging my hammock and it's SO EASY AND LIGHTWEIGHT. Your video was very clear, simple and easy to follow. Thanks a million times!

This was very helpful and perfect timing. Went to a park yesterday excited to get some hammock time by a picturesque creek. That did not happen. Trees that were close enough together had large diameter so my suspension system that came with the hammock was too short. Now I think I can deconstruct it to a single strand and use these knots and be successful. Will give it another try. Thanks again.

I used this same method to hang my hammock a few times this summer. It worked like a charm. I used climbers webbing I purchased from REI. Rocky gave me the idea for the climber's webbing in the You Tube video she made about a year ago. I purchased two 15 ft. pieces for next to nothing compared to the price of a pair of Atlas Straps. The webbing did the job and like David said in his video, their weight is nominal at best.

Perfect timing!! I just slept in my hammock for the first time. Had a clever and lucky way to tie it up and adjust it to correct length, but this method is so much better in time and not binding ribbon to knots that are hard to get undone. In order to be more length adjustable, I thought I was going to have to buy adjustable tie down straps. Your method is not only easier, cheaper, but also less weight then metal straps. THANK YOU MUCH ! ! ! ! I am new to hammock camping and on a budget. This video was perfect!

You made this 4 years ago but I think this is the most versitile of all methods I have seen. The straps are the way to go, and I currently have straps that have the loops built in. The problem I have with that is that if they are too short I have to run line connected to that, making it a two step process. I would much rather just use the straps like you have here because YOu can carry a tremendous length. I am not to worried about the weight so i wont even cut them beyond what you have when you cut them in half. Thanks .

Nylon straps are ok but they stretch . Polyester straps won't stretch. That's why ENO came out with the Atlas straps in place of their Slap straps. Great hanging tip. I've used that method and it does work well. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy your channel very much. Enjoy & be safe !

Dennis Kuenze Thanks for tuning in. You're right, poly won't stretch, but I find that nylon is a lot easier for folks to find in local stores. I've been using poly straps for about 3-4 years now, and although they stretch at first, they do seem to stop at a certain point. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :-)

i use the same setup, only sometimes i use mule tape. one note, i use over ten feet of line just in case i am around larger diameter trees. so when i have smaller trees to work with, i run only a little bit of the line thru the loop(instead of running it all the way thru like you did at the 3:45 mark). that way it's even faster to undo the whole setup. it also does away with using carabiners as i have seen others use when they use longer lines. i hope i explained that right... ;)

I do the same setup with 4mm climbing cordage. Super lightweight and smaller to pack.

Solid. I'll have to give this a go when I build a lender setup. Subbed as well, your videos are great!

Thanks for the video Dave. I just bought a hammock a few days ago from Wal-Mart. Seen some pretty good reviews in it, and considering I live in Florida, I figure to give it a try since I don't recommend tent camping due to snakes, gators & fire-ants. I kept backing up your video due to not knowing all the knots for hammock applications, and I been practicing with some paracord here at my desk. I'm definitely going to give them knots a try & hopefully I can get it recorded. Again, thanks for the tips & be safe. See you around. Looking forward to more videos.

Going up north of GR hammock camping with some fellow youtuber in a couple weeks. First time for me in a hammock. Iam getting some atlas straps, that have loop in it. Going to be fun, hope i like it.

You just saved us $60! We will be trying out the system next weekend, I have full confidence. We were totatally considering hammock/tree straps at $30+ a pop for both of us. I already played with the knots and they couldn't be simpler. Oh, I don't think I'll be trimming anything -- 15 feet per line might be needed due to possible larger tree diameters. No?
