NB: many comments on the music... - OK it's not the best music choice. - NO we are not to change it. Enjoy the movie and keep the sounds low !... ;-)
Engine sound beats music any day.
Absolutely stellar! A legendary plane. Thank you for a well-filmed, well-edited video.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nice plane!
Amazing ship!
❤❤
A beautiful plane. Thank you for keeping it flying. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I Love the freeking music. Great choice. Puts us aviators in a good jazzy mood to watch a true classic airplane. THANK YOU!
Nice that you're helping your buddy. Just that your opinion is wrong. Only retards play modern jazztastic smoothie pop over 1930's vintage airplane vids. I hope you have a jazzy jazz mood forever more
Yeah, you are correct Mr..Aviator, the music is 'swank' and a good groove!
These fantastic aircraft served as long range patrol with the Fleet Air Arm during the war,and performed sterling service. Two pilots,a flight engineer's position above and behind, and two gunners manning the side blisters. A very respected and feared aircraft at the time.
Really nicely shot and edited record of a beautiful aircraft! Thank you for helping preserve a piece of history!
Beautiful aircraft, the PBY.
What a beautiful designed aircraft. Thanks for preserving this plane posting.
Mr. Yves Cartilier, Consolidated PBY Catalina 9767,this sensational and unforgettable Aircraft, widely used in wars and also in peace flying today and providing excellent service today in many countries. Here in Brazil, in The Amazon was very uself for many years, taking all kinds of help for those isolated populations, mainly the indigenous population. Today unfortunately calls "paw shocks " were retired and many are preserved in museums Aeronautical. Stayed to miss this amazing aircraft
Mr, Yves, I´m sorry i can not speak english, but understand something. .... Greetings from Brazil.
Don't worry about the 'English language skills'! We understood you, first time out - Perfectly! Well spoke & well said. You conveyed a great message. Buona Fortuna from New York City! ❤😊
The most beautiful thing I've seen in a long time !
My father was a pilot officer in the RCAF during WWII and trained on PBY's, amongst other airplanes. He said more than once that it was one of the easiest planes to fly and also one of the smoothest handling, FWIW-John in Texas
That's true! It's unconventional but forgiving. You just need a bit of muscle.
Thank you so much for making this! My personal favorite of WW2 warbirds!
such a beautiful aircraft.
No disrespected intended at all but, the "music" of those Pratt R-1830's is sufficient. Nothing else needed.
Yeah, the crummy music made give up watching at 4:47, despite my interest, as my father in law flew Catalinas in WWII for the RAAF (he died only a few years ago aged 96).
Agree
Hard agree. I used to live in a house that was in the flight path of a working DC-6 that makes regular flights out from Fairbanks, AK to the villages. It still goes, and sometimes it overflies my work. Great sound, those P&W engines.
Well that was a joy to watch! Glad I stumbled upon this video..
Really nice.. plane, video, everything..
What a beauty. Great lines.
Thanks for a great video experience of the PBY Catalina. Nice job. Well done photography. Of course we love the sound of the engines, but I kinda liked the beat of the music to the rhythm of the journey. Beautiful countryside - Beautiful airplane.
The real pilots not a computerized, raw flying love it well done Guys
My favourite plane
Thanks for the video
I remember many years ago in the early 60s seeing one of these beauties fly by just off the waters edge while on vacation in Destin with my family. Later that morning two of the old straight wing type jet fighters with the wing tanks out on the end of each wing make the same pass by. Shooting Star I think is what they were called. Dad and I also saw the classic swept wing answer to the early Mig 15s, 2 of our F-86 Saber jets in a pair come by on the deck so to speak. Pensacola Air Base was just a hop and skip away for them so we guessed that is where they had come from. Great memories. Growing up here in the Mississippi Delta I also remember the old Stearman Bi-planes being used to spray crops with upgraded engines to the Super Wasp radial engines. Loud as could be but so much fun to watch as a child. Here in my hometown of Clarksdale they had a training base for Pilots during WW-2 which is still there and some of the original hangers and used by people with personal planes. Fletcher Field was and is the name of the old base and present day airport. Morgan Freemon flies in and out of there often as his home is nearby in the town or near the town of Charleston MS. The Catalina must have saved many lives back in their war days and it will stick with me always seeing these great pieces of history back when they were still being used. Would or could have been as early as 63 as we started going down there yearly about the time I turned six years old. It always seemed to be very early in the mornings when they would do these on the deck fly by passes. I guess they enjoyed waking everyone up, but after the first time I knew to get up and get out there and wait because something was going to come by. I can't recall having seen a Panther but I'd bet I did as it happened every morning one type or several types. Thanks Dad. Dad was part of the Mighty Eight flying out of Burtonwood England I think was the name of the base. He said he never saw a 262 and was not the least bit upset about that loss of a chance. It is a shame back then nobody seemed to care about destroying them by the droves. I feel the same way about buildings too that were torn down for some odd looking strip mall type shit to take its place. Sad. Other parts of the world are not so eager to do this sort of stuff it appeared to me years ago as a young man outside of the CONUS. We should have done better in preserving our history. There is a great deal to be said for progress, but equally as much about saving the past. A beautiful aircraft there and thanks for the sharing. Brings a tear or two thinking about Dad sitting there with me trying to keep the sand out of his coffee as we sat, waited, and watched. Saw a B-25 Mitchell fly over town a few years ago as it came down to the airshow at Fletcher Field and was giving pay for rides to folks with the cash to spend. Another beautiful bird to see in the sky overhead. We should have done a better job is all I can say about that topic.
Merci infiniment pour ce partage, j'ai adoré !
Very cool, thanks for posting!
Прекрасная машина! Счастливые люди!👍👍👍
Love the plane, video, and the music!
Счастливый Вы народ американцы!
Почитаете историю,самолет сохранили. Спасибо Вам огромное за ленд-лиз!
Excellent !
Gorgeous Bird the PBY. Seems in good shape, I’ll take her!
MY FAVORITE PLANE!
More fun than people should be allowed to have!! Wherever this plane's located certainly is some beautiful countryside.
what a beautiful thing
Fantastic video!!
¡Come onnnnnn!, good music, good video, beautiful plane.
Beautifull bird!
Top video thankyou guys :-)
Missing the sea landing..! Anyway i enjoy it too much..congrats..
In the middle of the '70 I flew several times in a Catalina belonging to the Orinoco Mining Co. from Puerto Ordaz to Punta Barima, at the mouth of the Orinoco River. The journey was made in 2 hours. For that time the aircraft had more than 30 years of service.
Прекрасная машина..бессмертная!👍
My uncle flew the Cat during WW ll in the Pacific!
Great video!
Everybody loves the ole PBY and my Dad worked on them in WWII, preparing them to be flown out of Eastern N.C. (Elizabeth City) to Archangel with Russian pilots. Said they had a hell of a hard time keeping the Ruskies from overloading the AC with fresh fruit and veggies and once had a pitch-pole sinking in the Pasquataque River with overload and extremely forward C.G.!
Beautiful filming but as the title was , I would have preferred music very low and to hear the voice of the crew.
Un France...
LOVERLY AIRPLANE!!!
Dear admin beautiful vedio tc always
Beautiful video and flight! I love this aircraft! Best regards from Brazil!
I want one for a flying RV. There is one out there somewhere. Saw it in Tampa harbor in 1971. Dropped in and went ashore in a dingy for groceries. Blue and white Flowers in the bubble windows yet. Fantastic.
You don’t need music,
The music of those engines are music to those who flew these machines!
Supernice Video !! The Catalina is such a beauty in many ways. Thanks 4 sharing. :)
Very cool! If I ever win the Lotto, I'd like to get one.
This is an amazing video. I love the Catalina so much. A legendary plane. Great video, superb music too.
WW2 - My Dad flew in the PBY, he was a Radioman & Gunner. He flew in the “Blister” doing Costal Patrols for ships and submarines.
He was first in a Dauntless Dive Bomber, but during a training exercise while making a practice bomb run, the plane lost power and they had to make an emergency landing. When the plane came onto the emergency field upon landing on the runway, it split into two sections. Both he and the pilot were injured. While recovering in the hospital, some Officers came around to see him and asked if he’d fly again. He said: if you can put me in something that has more than one engine. That’s how he supposedly ended up in PBYs.
Cool tunez..
~ smiles ~
Nice Video !!!
I would have preferred to hear the talk between the pilots and aircraft sounds more and the music a lot less.
That was great
A linda catalina.
The music is a pain !! Let's hear the P&W's !!
Nice video
wow nice
I like planes restored to be as they were in service, but the PBY does look really nice with no turret on the nose. (Especially they way everything comes together in the frontal view.) And yes to what others have said. Give us a version with no music please!
Indeed the turret is extremely rare. We had one and intended to put it back but we had some more important work to be done first. And sorry, but no we will not spend more time on this video to remove the music.
Wow!!!
another great video filled with crappy music when you want to hear what is going on
Hi John, There is one based out of Aurora Oregon (south of Portland) that is 4 engines as experimental with turbo-props added as twin outboard mills. I believe it was moved inside for it's final restoration as I haven't seen it in a while.
Keith Lincicum only 4 engine inhave ever seen is the bird innovator. Last i knew it was in new mexico and they took the outer engines off. Got any pictures?
A PBY Catalina picked up 56 survivors of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. How did they fir 56 men onboard? They tied many of them on top of the wings with parachute cord so they would not fall off. True fact!
Mon rêve de piloter un PBY Catalina un jour ! J'dois me contenter de Cessna 172 pour le moment par contre :P
Best bird boat ever.
Cool though,
Why the music. Wanna hear the engines
Wish you would can the music so we could hear the engine sounds.
Nice video. Ignore the trolls that complain about the music. Let them make their own video. What a plane you can see why they were used for scouting and finding down pilots, Waiting for your next video. You can mute the complainers just like they can mute the music. Have not seen 1 video where someone did not complain about what ever music is applied. Incredible
Thanks !!!
Great video, but please re-edit it with the natural sound, or just dead silence if some of the natural sound is messed up.
Their is a Goose still in operation in Alaska.
Nice video, by the way they make bifocal sunglasses,LOL might make life a little easyier.
Yes but less sexy ! LOL
Avião fantástico parabéns pelo vôo belo de mais
Hello what is the vye on this Catalina. Thanks in advance
Anyone have any idea of PBY 6 Catalina that was in the air base of Madrid (Cundinamarca) in Colombia ... if it was restored or was finally dismantled?
Good video!
What is such a plane good for?
How is the specific design of he wings (placement above the body and position of the engines) better than other wing/plane designs?
This aircraft was built and designed as a pure flying boat prior to WWII. ie, it had no permanent wheels until later models such as the one featured. With that in mind, the layout of the PBY Catalina is very much in harmony with previous, and following amphibious aircraft design.
The engines are up high and close together to maximize a central line of thrust. That way if you lose one engine (which happened now and then) the other was close enough to the centerline to continue flying without undue stress on the airframe. Putting the wing up high itself kept it out of the splash of water, and also prevented the propellers from taking on water splashes, which could result in thermal damage to the engines, which are air-cooled. Think of cold water on hot glass...not a good outcome.
With all that said, the Catalina was one of the most reliable and respected support aircraft of the war. They could loiter over an area for several hours patrolling for enemy submarines, or follow a fleet after the battle to recover downed airmen from the sea, or stay up high above the fray and perform recon missions to spot the enemy fleet. It was, and remains, a very flexible and durable design.
@@ryanchristopherson374, thank you for the detailed answer!
Да ну и жесть.
Such a great airplane. Too bad they're rare and tough to maintain, and it takes about 15k USD to fill the huge fuel tanks for max-range (which is really far, given the mission they were designed for).
Thank you for great and beautiful Video.
I was so impressed that I made play list " PBY Catalina"
4 levers in the cockpit - Red two long levers and Yellow short two levers.
Red and Yellow were not the same position at the starting engine.
Yellow were front and Red were back.
when you were taking off, you moved only Red long two levers from back to forward carefully and slowly.
after taking off, Yellow short two ones little back.
then All four levers almost the same position.
Why you used only two Red levers for take off ?
What the difference of Red and Yellow levers ?
Red - throttle
Yellow - propeller pitch
Beautiful video great music !..only time i get to fly a Catalina is in War Thunder! Bravo!
Cool video... but that muzak tho... :/
And what happened to the wing floats?
+Mac Anix The wing floats are pulled up; you can do without them on land.Take a shufti at the wingtips and you'll spot them.
+omepeet2006 Cool... Thanks... I had to google it to see how they tucked into the wing...
COOL MUSIC! WHAT SONG?
My dream
When you were landing you pushed the two yellow knobs forward. What are those knobs ?
Those are propellers controls levers and the action during flare is : Propellers at MAX RPM.
Interesting. In most aircraft that is done way before the flare. One day I hope to fly one and learn it for myself!
didnt need any music . the engines are the music.
No smoke starting.
Argentina deberia tener unos 10 de estos para controlar incendios
Bientôt en entrainement pour la lutte anti-sous-marine? Bonne saison !
Great but why the music???
interesting
Wahouu belle video j'adore ^^ mais dites moi a 5:55 c'est pas le terrain de la ferté Allais ??
Si !
Je me disais bien ^^
Bonne continuation et le PBY Catalina est juste magnifique ;)
Doesn't Jimmy Buffet have one of these or did he roll it over? I know he crashed one type but not sure which one many years ago. Beautiful planes and life savers of many I bet.
Last I saw Jimmy Buffet has a sweet looking Albatross
Do they make modern day versions of this?
Dude looked scared to death when he was touching down..... lol
steve TGO: sure did...I wouldn't be too eager to fly with him as a pilot.
loove that plane..did it used to have an access hatch in the nose? Any idea how many are still flying? I would luvvvvv to train in this plane !!
Yes, there is an access hatch in the nose.
10 are still flying. Ours is the last one to have a victory during WWII.
For survivors list, see the one of David Legg, updated 6/2014:
www.catalina.org.uk/catalina-latest-news/consolidated-pby-catalina-survivors-list-a23.html
We do not plan to train new crew on our Cat for the moment.
But our friends of the "Catalina Society" do organize training :
www.catalina.org.uk/
too cool....thanks for getting back to me . If there is an iconic plane it is definitely the PBY...and the B-17....but there is just something awesome about landing on the water ! Keep her going... Iflew on a B-17 before which was awesome...but the Catalina just looks fun!!
Yves Cartilier Are you in France? That pond to port just after takeoff looked like one of the explosions caused by WW I Brits tunneling below German trenches and leaving explosive charges.
According to the tail number it was in Switzerland in 2014 and is now in France.
ahhhh..plane spotter
That music! That damn music.....you know....when the engines were humming away....wonderful sound that doesnt bother me. lol...Must be a wonderful experience to fly. Are you going to do water landings at some point? Or will it require special ground school cert first for that type of aircraft. Just curious what the rules and limitations are. Thanks for sharing.
The type rating PBY "land & sea" was made in US on open water near Seattle. Than we flew the french based one, but this one had some problems with the nose wheel well so we went on water very few times in Europe.
Imagine seeing a water landing and takeoff
Have they tried putting turboprops on this aircraft?
yes, here in Canada I believe as a forest fire fighter
