Basically, you can tell when a singer breathes through mouth, but you can't tell when they're breathing through nose, unless she he tells you to pay attention.
But, they have the whole song charted out. They know exactly where to breathe. And that's the trick. And they're breathing through nose. Melissa Etheridge explaining very down to earth to me today.

Suzy, every time ME goes live, she does 3 breathes with the audience. I asked Melissa Etheridge if breathe work helped her singing.
She said breathe work is everything in singing, and she said watch her nose flare before she belts out "Anyway".
And basically I knew breathe work was everything, but her confirming she is breathing through her nose before "Anyway" is a huge tip! She posted her love 9 minutes ago. We had a good laugh.
