    glad to see you've realized that a 10k with PE 4-6 isn't heavy tackle😉 that 20K Saltiga is definetly a sweet reel, got to fight one fish bigger than myself on mine so far, definetly my favorite reel! Rod looks great too, though as with most rods, with a couple exceptions mine included, one thing that works gainst you(but might be needed to properly work the lure) is the more progressive action vs. a true elasti parabolic action with a strong but comparably soft backbone, which will decreas ethe leverage the fish can use against you but only really high end carbon or, in which case you can kiss working and feeling the lure good bye, glass can allow for that much flex while keeping it's integrity. but in cas eyou decide to chase even bigger tuna a rod like that and having the captain drive away from the fish so you can have a flat rod to line angle, allowing you to easily double the drag, even pumping directly over the reel, basically a one arm cable row with the rod held loosely(180° rod to lign angle, so there's no lever against you) can help to beat those fish that are too strong for regular stand up fighting where most of the rod acts as a lever against you(which is necessary to keep it away from the boat)

    Look, I know I won't have much to say about this trip, other than stoked for your trip, glad you enjoyed it. But one thing I did want to say is how cool it was in the opening montage watching that trawlerman drop a couple of sacks of bycatch for you to use as bait. What a Sir.

    must be the third or fourth time watching, your videos definetly are something special! And I love you upgraded the tackle, maybe now you understand me saying something with a mid sized reel (8-14k) can't be a heavy setup, only taking about 30 minutes getting that tuna in the boat definetly is a feat!

    that rod between your legs, reel almost touching the jewels and arms up the blank is actually proper fightingtechnique for big fish, shortens the lever against you by 1-2 feet so absolutely do it! when harnessed in(conventional usually, but sometimes spinners too) you wanna basically sit into the rod butt, might make your tilbone sore if your not used to it but it's a very helpful technique! also, if possible I'd actually let the fish run if it turns into a stalemate while you simply brace against it as much as possible while NOT trying to pull against it cause that'll tire the fish more than you. I can resist basicallly any drag, with the right technique but gaining line is much harder. then when the fish allows you to gain at a reasonable rate use that. turn the times you can't gain line into a break cause compared to heavy pumping it is. one thing I've used fishting on spinning gear for prolonged periods is versa gripps, I know it seems weird but they spare your grip strength and the rubber stays at the place you put itkeeping your hand glued in place even if you can't hold on to the rod anymore

    • @RyanMorie
      @RyanMorie  11 месяцев назад +1

      The versa grips sounds like a great idea honestly! I use straps for sets of high rep deadlifts all the time, but the versa grips would be perfect for all the re-adjusting that goes on during a fight

    • @maxschmidt9461
      @maxschmidt9461 11 месяцев назад

      @@RyanMorie yeah, just need a buddies to put them on(or hand over the rod for a minute. Also they don't slide down like a cotton/nylon strap would. And of course if the fish is pulling, let your arm hang and just resist with your backhand weight, don't actually pull against it, especially not with your arm cause they'll get tired easily and some fights can last hours

    • @maxschmidt9461
      @maxschmidt9461 11 месяцев назад

      @@RyanMorie another option, maybe while putting on the versa, is to put the rod into your elbow crest, zercher style. while you need to flex you're arm the leverages are so minimal it really doesn't matter. Dennis Verret often does this when he doesn't have a harness while the fish is running, only really works on spinning reels though. you can also turn the rod around and rail rod or place the rod on your knee or something if you can't hold it anymore

    If you're targeting Sheepshead, use some shellfish. Crabs, clams, shrimp, snails. Just drop your bait right by the pilings. If you have fragile bait, they have this stuff called bait elastic. You can tie your bait to the hook so other baitfish don't nibble it off. Also remember that literally EVERYTHING carnivorous in the water loves squid. You should always have squid with you.
