How many of us Oldsmobile guys out there? The car company that started General Motors, and I'm a Ford guy, but I do love an Oldsmobile, they are well built, and have near perfection looks.
Got a 1968 4-4-2. I was searching for parts for my 86 Foxbody GT, and came across this car, $4500, turn key and go. Seller built it the way i would have done (variable duration lifters, switch pitch torque converter, 2.7 turn steering box, etc) and while I had been accumulating parts for years, I sure couldn't have built even a Cutlass S for that price! It has 243,000 miles and looks it, but I go to a lot of shows and hear people comment they see few 4-4-2's. Mostly GTOs and Chevelles, when it comes to an A body.
Got a 1971 Cutlass you can see in my profile picture. 350 olds and a th350’with a reverse manual valve body and a.ford 9 inch with 3.50 gears. Love olds!
My father use to own a couple Oldsmobile cars. One of the last cars he owned was a 67' Dodge Van and a Crystler Lebaron. R.I.P. Wish I kept them but I was too young at the time
And had it not been for that fire they would have had electrics on the market in the early 1900's. They were GM's most experimental and advanced division, should have been Buick on the chopping block...
Many people have garages in NYC. There are classics, muscle cars (old and new) and race cars hidden all over the city. You take the car out and drive it, then put it away.
If you have a New York plate on it i reckon there are less people that will fuck with your car. If you're from out of town though that might be a different story. At least from what ive heard and i know quite a few people in New York both from the city and from the outskirts
The passion for these cars and how that's reflected by the owners, is absolutely fantastic. Its inspiring and reminds us fellow gearheads that can only afford to be internet gearheads, that the automotive world is vast and truly a family. Thank you Mike for doing what you on each episode of the show and previous episodes and shows. Please keep it up and please keep doing what you're doing.
I had that car it was my first car. I loved it! I hope to buy another one day but as the years go one (58 now) I find myself just watching the videos. I should have kept the car she was an ex for a reason. Lol
It is a beautiful car, but I'd take a HK GTS or HR Prem, a XY GT over it any day. There's plenty over car's I'd rather, but they're the smaller ones so they aren't really able to be compared to this, like a VL, VH, Lx, LJ etc
It always amazes me to see and hear the cars and stories about street racing coming out of N.Y. Because you get this thought in your head of congestion and traffic and wonder how. Then you see gems like this and here the stories and like Mike said you can talk and listen for HOURS. I remember as a kid when I first got into cars and saw my first SuperBee. It was an original HEMI car and it was a beast. And the guy who bought it new did so to go street racing in the Bronx. And hearing that starting my fascination with the mystery of street racing in N.Y.
10:11 one of the best shots ever in the history of House of Muscle. Love it! And I love this car - I've always had a thing for a '72 Cutlass... I'd love to see more of the other Cutlass (mid-70s) that appears a few times, around 5:24.
Really enjoyable House of Muscle episode. If there's one thing that MT is doing right as of recent, it's this show. Big improvement over Musto's previous /Drive series too.
The production quality of these videos is getting great and it was already great to begin with, love the work Musto and your team and thanks for bringing great quality content!!
Amazing episode Mike! Great job. The guy really has a connection with his car and its a gorgeous one at that.Truely what owning a classic project car is all about!
It's not just a NY thing,it's a hot rod thing and something that never fails to amaze me no matter how far I travel. No matter the language or cultural barriers, hot rod is spoken world wide and I've noticed the how can I help you go faster attitude is true were ever you go. Hella nice Rocket, even if it's not running an Olds under the hood.
Maybe down in New York City gear heads helped out gear heads.....BUT that isn't the case in other areas of New York!!! I grew up in Ithaca, and in my "neck of the woods" New Yorkers DO NOT HELP OTHERS OUT EVER!!! In fact I grew up surrounded by muscle cars, old cars and at teh time I was a young kid the GTO Judge and Dodge Daytona Charger were "brand new cars"! And everywhere you looked there was some fastback Mustang, Firebird T/A, or tricked out Road Runner or Hemi Cuda to lust after!!!! BUT like I say I lived in UPSTATE NEW YORK....Ithaca NY, the home of Cornell and the car guys who help each other out, was in very short demand more so once I got old enough to actual drive!! In Ithaca everybody is against old cars, and to most of the people in the area old cars are totally disposable!! When the ashtray is full you throw the car out and get a new one!! And NOBODY in my home town holds on to old cars, other than the kook who didn't get the memo and has his family fortune behind him!!! So car guys in my area of New York were rare to say the least!!! Certainly I lived just one Finger Lake over from the world famous track at Watkins Glen, but asking around for parts or a helping hand at times was impossible at best from most other "car guys" in my home town!! And you just didn't do it!! Besides in Ithaca everything has a price and then the price was always way too high for everything!! You couldn't even buy parts at the local salvage yard at times, because they never seemed to have what you needed even when it was wreck sitting in front of the place in plain sight!! In most times it was "everybody for themselves" and nobody wanted to look at your car and say "Gee looks like you need a hand with that!", it just never happened in my area of upstate New York. And people like I knew who found out you were a "car guy" you were then treated like an idiot just because to you the sound of a hot rod was music, while those around you distanced yourself from you at all costs!! In the end my love of old cars I was very much alone in!! Even when being married twice, my now ex wives and my family ALWAYS stood against me in my love of cars and old hot rods, and they did everything in their power to prevent me from owning and driving the cars I wanted to own and drive!! And dealerships were not much better because when I found a car I wanted to buy even when I had the money to do so, they refused to sell them to me!! My point is this though some car guys find "helpful soles" who will feed into their car addictions....then there are others out there like myself who grow old and bitter never having realized our full potential and never living out our dreams!! It sucks today that I still have never owned the cars I wanted to own, and now can NEVER own the cars I wish I could drive....but everyday I see cars like this and remember when I was young and full of hopes and dreams that today I have just gave up on!!
Happy to see Motor Trend isn't afraid of depicting "reckless driving" in their videos. Even though I don't condone the driving (especially in densely populated areas), it still keeps the show exciting to watch. Subscribed.
Watching big muslce and now House of muscle. Mike Musto is one of the reasons I said finally am getting my El Camino to where I want it. Finally putting the money I wanted into it. I do wish one day Mike Musto can see what he has inspired me to finally do to my El Camino
Seeing the video makes me think about the first time I see a classic muscle car as a kid in Brooklyn. It was a red 67 Chevelle with a blower, the car was immaculate. I was amazed because I never knew cars like that would ever exist there. Great video!!
This was my first car with the stock 350ci gold block. I sold it to a guy in Minneapolis who flew to Atlanta and drove the car all the way back to MN himself. He made it just fine.
The House Of Muscle you planning on more episode on your channel cause RUclips channel has no content on it yet? Just wondering love the show and the awesome 🇺🇸 muscle cars!😎 keep it up!
Visited New York with the wife for my birthday great city and some crazy drivers. But man that intro and the cars in the background riding into the tire smoke epic! But yeah those pot holes riding in an FX45 and stiff suspension is no joke almost realign my spine lol but cool city.
To me it's a disappointment to see an original muscle car with a modern Chevy/ Chrysler/ Ford engine in it. Sure its got a lota horsepower but it no longer has its original character.
That's just your opinion. If you grew up with the cars as I did and enjoyed them when they were new you might have a different view. To me it has about as much in common with Olds Cutlass as a funny car does with what the body shell it sports.
I'm not from New York but my BS meter went off at 1:19 of the video. A 540 BBC in a classic Olds Cutlass. Yeah fine it's his car; do what you want. I'll stop here and watch something else. Ay ohh!
Have a 72 Cutlass in Ridgefield, Ct . its a real headturner and i am convinced its a full time job keeping care of it. People just dont care to keep things nice. However its worth it!!!!!
Does no one realize that Mike and his friend Andre were both in Spike TV's Bullrun... The show that introduced Mike and Mr. Angry to the world. Andre was on Team Olds with the same 75 Hurst W-30. I recognized it right away. By the way 71 is the best looking year for the Cutlass ... I have owned a 71 convertible twice. and growing up we had a 75...
Man, the lines on that Oldsmobile are amazing, and how cool is it to own a car named after a pirate sword, dont know why but ive always liked the more blocky and what some people considered ugly body styles
I loved it too. But i was annoyed hearing people ask me” hey did you buy this from so and so”? Ughhh so annoying but i agree with you. The truth is i probably would have gone the same route as i bought it. However i had to change it up a little. Thanks for watching
I hope that he has a really, really secure garage for it at night. Several of my relatives who once lived in nyc, specifically in queens, were victims of car theft, and their cars were nothing compared to that Cutlass. nyc is the car theft capitol of the world!!!!!! ............Marc Smith, Danbury, Connectucut.
It actually only meant that for the original model year in 1964... 442 carried many meanings over the years, and in some years (like the year of the car in the video) it meant nothing at all (sort of like having a non-performance ordered Chevy SS car, it was just a trim package)... In the end of the name's life it even meant 4 cylinder, 4 valves, 2 cam shafts.. :( That's one of the reasons why so many car guys don't really know what the term means or what options they had, because Olds wasn't at all consistent with anything except the moniker itself.
Ooooh yeah I'd forgotten that. I seem to remember some obscure explanation involving something like 4 speed, 4 seats and 2 doors?? So just maybe I' not making that up!
AY OHH!!!! Howarya Mike?? Another great show, but hey, it's not just whazz up in the burrows. Upstate is just the same.... Watching this video put my in my 65' cruizin around Rochester... Steve P.
Dude! Awesome ending! Musto, you my friend are awesome! You summed up owning a classic in one sentence. Hats off to this guy! Opening statement "Welcome to My city". I was waiting for "Get the F outta here!!" Lol.
I fucking love this show. Keep them coming. Im in my 30's, and as much as i love the 60s muscle cars, I think we should be sure to include the 70s and 80s stuff. THey werent good stock, but these cars you're highlighting arent stock either. I'd love to see some Grand Nationals, nice fox mustangs, some second gen Camaros, etc. Those were my hero cars growing up in the 90s just as much as these 60s cars were.
The thunderbird baking the tires reminds me of my dad he had a 67 Thunderbird 429 thunderjet and he tells me stories about doing burnouts all the way down main street in the town he went to highschool
Almost forgot....Musto, you have struck gold. Who gives two shits on what jackass people say. For the he last five plus years, you have cornered the "Muscle Market" in the RUclips market. I watch simply because you are the first and ONLY one to bring life to what I grew up with. MTOD out of the picture, I absolutely LOVED the reality from way back in the Drive days. Nothing better than doing what you love! That's why you 86d your stock market days!
We all had this experience. For me it was a 02 mustang Gt with black everything. I made about 350hp to the wheels and had an x pipe exhaust system. No I wasn’t fast but it was fun. A good time was finding a quiet neighborhood or city block and seeing how many car alarms we could set off. God I miss that car but I really wanna make my own. A supercharged coyote with 6 speed in a 00-04 mustang. Sapphire blue or eruption green on ccw chrome wheels. That’s my pick.
This is loaded with things that would normally make me cringe and ask WTH?! But somehow in that perfect New York way that I will never really understand, the car says it all.... for the owner, the city, the history........ This time everything that is wrong about a car to an inlander is absolutely a perfect package. That's one bad ass wonderful car.........
How many of us Oldsmobile guys out there? The car company that started General Motors, and I'm a Ford guy, but I do love an Oldsmobile, they are well built, and have near perfection looks.

I think old buicks are beauties!
And had it not been for that fire they would have had electrics on the market in the early 1900's. They were GM's most experimental and advanced division, should have been Buick on the chopping block...
Cant imagine having the courage to leave a car like that alone in NYC for 10 seconds
MisterTwister here in Harlem I would be so scared to leave my car sitting outside my house
MisterTwister your Honda is more likely to get broken into.
Many people have garages in NYC. There are classics, muscle cars (old and new) and race cars hidden all over the city. You take the car out and drive it, then put it away.

I totally agree Patrick!
Musto is such an enthusiast. I really like his attitude about the cars and people and stories on this show.
I had that car it was my first car. I loved it! I hope to buy another one day but as the years go one (58 now) I find myself just watching the videos. I should have kept the car she was an ex for a reason. Lol
68-72 Olds Cutlass 4-4-2's are Magnificent Muscle Cars
The 66 with 3x2 intake is my favorite.
This car is great, this guy built his car the way he wanted to and he loves it. That's all that matters.
Lovely looking car, thanks for showing this to us! Wish we had heaps of cars like this lying around in Australia...
Nicholas Eldridge Funny because us in the US would kill for some of the cars y'all have in Australia
Moose Only what sort of cars have you guys got your eyes on? I love our Aussie cars too but a bit of good American muscle is to die for...
Nicholas Eldridge I think everyone thinks of the Interceptors in Mad Max first, of course those are Mopar powered if I'm not mistaken 😃
Maybe in the movie they were, but in real life they had Ford V8's, 351's I think, I'm more of a holden buff so I'm not too sure on the actual motors
It is a beautiful car, but I'd take a HK GTS or HR Prem, a XY GT over it any day. There's plenty over car's I'd rather, but they're the smaller ones so they aren't really able to be compared to this, like a VL, VH, Lx, LJ etc

It still has the Orange 442 fenderwells. This is an excellent video, thanks.
PLEASE keep em coming.
Those 60's and 70's Oldsmobile racing paint jobs still look good today.
10:11 one of the best shots ever in the history of House of Muscle. Love it! And I love this car - I've always had a thing for a '72 Cutlass... I'd love to see more of the other Cutlass (mid-70s) that appears a few times, around 5:24.
That guy who stopped him asked if it was a "WD -40"- ?? Haha
I guess he was referring to the later Olds W-40 engines.
Ryan Basdeo im thinking he meant w-30
WD-40, lol.
I thought i heard him ask if it was a 440 but i guess i heard wrong
They made Cutlass W-30 and W-31
Would love it if it had a well built Olds 455. They can be built well past 650ft lbs tq for less with the right builder.
Really enjoyable House of Muscle episode. If there's one thing that MT is doing right as of recent, it's this show. Big improvement over Musto's previous /Drive series too.
The history of Oldsmobile (1897-2004) for 107 years Oldsmobile founded in 1897 But is get defunct in 2004 R.I.P. Oldsmobile (1897-2004).😞 🚘
I love my 72 Cutlass but it's got the Rocket 350 in it which makes me happy!
The production quality of these videos is getting great and it was already great to begin with, love the work Musto and your team and thanks for bringing great quality content!!
That guy in the Jeep was like "Oh great these guys doing burnouts again..."
Amazing episode Mike! Great job. The guy really has a connection with his car and its a gorgeous one at that.Truely what owning a classic project car is all about!

You hear Mike talking with people and you DEFINITELY hear the New York accent!
Still one of my favorite YT vids ever... Probably watched it 50 times or more....

Love what Mike Musto does in these videos! Keep up the good work!
Love how he just rips one in the middle of the street! Respect :D
Happy to see Motor Trend isn't afraid of depicting "reckless driving" in their videos. Even though I don't condone the driving (especially in densely populated areas), it still keeps the show exciting to watch. Subscribed.
I really enjoyed the way this guy narrated this video. Was hooked the whole time! Beautiful car
John Elledge thank you John
Watching big muslce and now House of muscle. Mike Musto is one of the reasons I said finally am getting my El Camino to where I want it. Finally putting the money I wanted into it. I do wish one day Mike Musto can see what he has inspired me to finally do to my El Camino
Cars like this just remind me of the hero cars in cop movies where they chase around the city streets screeching around every corner.
I had a 71 Cutlass, loved it, drove it every chance I got. It had a factory 8 track player, still have the box of 8 tracks. Great vid!
Great car and great video. I enjoyed it
Mam Mike is such a great host iam glad he got a show on motor trend
1972 was an awesome year for style and design in automobiles. :)
Eddie should have his own show. Nice car!
Yes!
Thank you DJ!!! You rock
A car that WASNT made to impress people on the internet. I can respect a man for doing that. Hats off to you man
Seeing the video makes me think about the first time I see a classic muscle car as a kid in Brooklyn. It was a red 67 Chevelle with a blower, the car was immaculate. I was amazed because I never knew cars like that would ever exist there. Great video!!
Mike you have some great friends with great cars.
Bro, I love this. I wish if i had that type of love and support around me
awesome video! im a ny'er and recognize many of the spots you shot at. you perfectly captured the NY/Queens car scene and lingo! i love it!
This was my first car with the stock 350ci gold block. I sold it to a guy in Minneapolis who flew to Atlanta and drove the car all the way back to MN himself. He made it just fine.
The 400 hydro glide has an extra mod for reverse I think it's it's auto
I love this show. Real people with real cars. Not always the most expensive or glamorous but just pure old fashioned hot rods!
Exactly
The House Of Muscle you planning on more episode on your channel cause RUclips channel has no content on it yet? Just wondering love the show and the awesome 🇺🇸 muscle cars!😎 keep it up!
Visited New York with the wife for my birthday great city and some crazy drivers. But man that intro and the cars in the background riding into the tire smoke epic! But yeah those pot holes riding in an FX45 and stiff suspension is no joke almost realign my spine lol but cool city.
Where did u find those plates?
Movieplates in California , or any correctional facility lol!! Thank you pal
To me it's a disappointment to see an original muscle car with a modern Chevy/ Chrysler/ Ford engine in it. Sure its got a lota horsepower but it no longer has its original character.
it's a BB chevy not modern
The ZZ502 is a modern updated version of the classic BB Chevy its just like what was in Hot Rods 57 Chevy when GM rebuilt that car a few years back.
well yeah but still not really modern
That's just your opinion. If you grew up with the cars as I did and enjoyed them when they were new you might have a different view. To me it has about as much in common with Olds Cutlass as a funny car does with what the body shell it sports.
The way I see it, Chevrolet wouldn't be where it's at today without Oldsmobile, because Oldsmobile was the innovator for their cars.
What a beauty! Totally fell in love with this Cutlass. Totally
I'm encouraged knowing muscle cars have a spot in NYC, never woulda thought it. Good shit. And yup, potholes are life.
Good episode, great characters.
Ha....thanks for the trip down memory lane. Been a while since I've been on some of those streets. Love that plate!
great story...history...article....& really bad ass car...nicely done!
i love it. he has the passion true gear heads have.
Amazing, I would have never thought of muscle cars being in New York, let alone doing burnouts. I love it.......and the car too!!
I'm not from New York but my BS meter went off at 1:19 of the video. A 540 BBC in a classic Olds Cutlass. Yeah fine it's his car; do what you want. I'll stop here and watch something else. Ay ohh!
Ahh the tanks in greenpoint! Fountain ave in brooklyn! Conduit and van wyck! Hunts point! Miss my queens g-body 80 monte with a muncie.
Another great show Mike keep them coming.
Good memory!
Oh yeah that's right! Good call.
Man, the lines on that Oldsmobile are amazing, and how cool is it to own a car named after a pirate sword, dont know why but ive always liked the more blocky and what some people considered ugly body styles
Because you got style brother
Sorry, but the black with red pinstripes and THE ULTIMATE! Wheel ever made, the Weld Draglight look MUCH BETTER!
I loved it too. But i was annoyed hearing people ask me” hey did you buy this from so and so”? Ughhh so annoying but i agree with you. The truth is i probably would have gone the same route as i bought it. However i had to change it up a little. Thanks for watching
Great episode. House of Muscle needs its own channel.
Phucking Love that olds......so sweet
Thanks brother!!
Beautiful car man.
CJ Colvin thank you sir
Best episode so far!
is that Will Sasso?
I bought my 1970 cutlass Supreme as my first car in 06. I really do miss that car...
Mike, you filmed in my favorite places in town!!! Awesome episode!!!!!
Thanks Sasha!
very great show would love to see more of the northern cars like that keep up good work
Great episode👍I love that car
Great show, Andrea's still got his cutlass very cool.
Gorgeous sound! I loved learning more about NYC.
what a great car...its a shame the owner didn't retain the original rocket 350 :(
Steven V Shit happens. I'd rather see a million resto-rods on the street than any car made today
Yeah... It's a shame he didn't want a 17 second car... Olds motors are useless.
4-4-2 refers to actual options of an Olds 442: 4 barrel carb, 4 speed manual, Dual (2) exhaust
That's one of the reasons why so many car guys don't really know what the term means or what options they had, because Olds wasn't at all consistent with anything except the moniker itself.
Ooooh yeah I'd forgotten that. I seem to remember some obscure explanation involving something like 4 speed, 4 seats and 2 doors?? So just maybe I' not making that up!
EYYY OOOH I'm doin' a burnout in the street over here ... whaddya gonna do about it
suspense gopher yesssssssssssss!!!!!! Do it brother!!!!!!!
Love that car! Been a cutlass lover for years. My bro had a 71. I had an 80 with a small V8. Always wanted a 72 (as old as me).
He said that - we had to cut it LOL!
What an awesome ride
@1:13 blue gasket ARTwork...literally, wow! I didn't know they were doing blue gasket art until now.
Wow, Doug Heffernan changed
😂 not sure if that was a compliment but it was funny none the less. Thank you for watching!
Musto! Awesome homage to Queens. Thanks bro! Ay ohh!
Thanks Thomas!
Wish Mike did more of these Queens/NYC episodes. There's a LOT of Muscle within the 5 Boroughs..
We will - don't worry.
The House Of Muscle Cool! Loved the last ones you did in Queens, back on Big Muscle, keep up the great shows . Thanks Mike.
Find an old Nunzi Poncho and do a feature-King's County , baby! AY-OHH
Where did you get that funky _Pimp My Ride_ font? 😋😋😋
72 have the grounded back side windows. Most likely, it's a 71.
Love it! It's cool to see something different 👍nice ride!!
Legit AF!
Love it Guys. Great episode 💪
Monster!!!!👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Thank you brother!!
Funny you mentioned Grand Nationals and Fox Bodies...
I still think NY is a hole
Especially right now
are you from NY?
Is that a n LTD smoking the tires off at 5:25?
No it's either a 74 or 75 cutlass
The thunderbird baking the tires reminds me of my dad he had a 67 Thunderbird 429 thunderjet and he tells me stories about doing burnouts all the way down main street in the town he went to highschool
That car is nice, one of the best on the show so far
John Miller thank you sir!
Absolutely love it! Even with the chevy motor.
442 is my dream car its fucking awesome
Almost forgot....Musto, you have struck gold. Who gives two shits on what jackass people say. For the he last five plus years, you have cornered the "Muscle Market" in the RUclips market. I watch simply because you are the first and ONLY one to bring life to what I grew up with. MTOD out of the picture, I absolutely LOVED the reality from way back in the Drive days. Nothing better than doing what you love! That's why you 86d your stock market days!
Thanks Buddy - sometimes people forget there's a lot more to cars than just numbers.
Love the 72 Oldsmobile
THE GUY SAYS WD-40, HE MEANS W30.. HILARIOUS
Get this beautiful Olds a gear vendors!
I drive a 77 F150, and it starts so many conversations. (Everyone loves trucks in Texas.)
I thought it was the realiest car vlog I've seen I grew up the same way in Mississippi with a 76 Camaro and a mullet
What mufflers are running on the exhaust system?
Great vid
